You can collect the Giant Dinosaur Bones to get the Reins of the Bone-White Primal Raptor from the Isle of Giants. You will need 9999 Giant Dinosaur Bones to acquire this mount. All the mobs in the Isle of Giants drop the bones that you can collect for the mount and pet.

The name of the vendor is Ku’ma (who offers this mount). You can find this NPC in the west part of the Isle of Giants. The following map shows the NPC’s location with a pin.

Location of Ku’ma NPC

Ku’ma NPC

After you have collected 9999 Giant Dinosaur Bones, talk to Ku’ma and choose the A Mountain of Giant Dinosaur Bones quest option to receive the mount.

Screenshot of the Bone-White Primal Raptor

During your killing of the mobs in the island, you may find Primal Egg from the dinosaurs. This egg will hatch into a Cracked Primal Egg. The egg can contain one of the following 3 mounts:

Reins of the Black Primal Raptor

Reins of the Red Primal Raptor

Reins of the Green Primal Raptor

So you can get a total of four raptor mounts from this island. You can also get four pets too which is nice (if you collect pets).

Dinosaur Bones and Auction House

The Dinosaur bones are not soulbound items. So you can sell the Giant Dinosaur Bones in the auction house to make some gold. a stack of 999 bones sell for roughly 5,000 gold (this will vary from server to server).

If you don’t want to farm the bones yourself for the mount, you can buy them from the auction house.

There are a total of 40 known rares scattered all throughout Nazjatar. But unlike how the rares are found in our Darkshore and Arathi Highlands guides, rares in Nazjatar are much harder to efficiently farm. In this article, not only will we be covering the locations that all of the rares can be found in and what they can drop; we will also be explaining how to reach the hidden ones that are tucked away and not out in the open, as well as how to trigger the summoned rares.

To begin, the rares of Nazjatar are broken up into 3 main groups:

The Fixed Location Rares

The Wandering Rares

The Summoned/Triggered Rares

Each rare appears to share a global cooldown spawn rate with the rest of the members of their group, and each group also appears to have their own global spawn counter. Meaning that each rare could be randomly selected from the list of rares for their group. Once a rare has spawned, it appears as though the cooldown is reset and a different rare is selected to be spawned next.

We say this because we have personally seen first hand, where several rares (fixed and wandering) have been found within the same area at the same time, and yet its near on impossible to predict when a specific rare will spawn in. We tried camping out at a various spots that are fixed locations for rares to appear, and found that the time it takes between spawns could vary wildly, sometimes it could be as low as 30 mins, other times it could be up to 1 or 2 hours longer.

The only rares that we know for sure, that can have a predictable encounter rate, are some of the summoned/triggered rares. Some of these rares require a specific item to be brought to a set location, or even a particular creature to be killed in front of the dormant rare. Either way, the spawning of these rares are triggered by the player and not left to some sort of timer. So long as you have the required trigger on hand, you will be able to spawn those rares when you are ready.

Fixed Location Rares

As we mentioned earlier on, fixed location rares appear to share a global cooldown, this means that while some people have found the respawn rate to be relatively quick, others have found themselves with a lengthy wait on their hands. Our advice would be to keep an eye open for them as you pass through the area, or to make sure that you complete any world quests that may be assigned to them. Hunting them down becomes a lot easier once you’ve unlocked your flying mounts. Please read our Exploration Article if you need to find the locations in order to complete the Pathfinder achievements

1) Blindlight

The entrance to Darkwater Cavern can be found on the north-western side of the the Spears of Azshara. Inside this cave system, you will find pesky murlocs that need to be pulled/kited out of range of their undying sphere as it prevents them from being killed.

Once you’ve made your way to the back end of Darkwater Cavern, you will find this necromancer murloc being flanked by skeleton bodyguards.

Defeat him, and there’s a chance that he will drop you a Necrofin Tadpole battle pet.

2) Caverndark Terror

The entrance to Chitterspine Grotto cave system can be found near along the northern edge of Chitterspine cavern. Before you enter the cave, make sure to grab the Deeplight Torch that’s near the entrance as there are lots of crab mobs inside, and this torch will fear them away.

Making your way around to the back end of the Chitterspine Grotto, you will find a small, yet deep pool of water that the Caverndark Terror is sleeping at the bottom of.

Bring it to the surface and defeat it for a chance for it to drop the Caverndark Nightmare battle pet.

3) Chasm-Haunter

In the south eastern area of Spears of Azshara there is a deep body of water that is near a broken shipwreck. Make your way towards the waterfall and dive down to find the entrance to The Forgotten Tunnel.

As you come up for air, you’ll find the cave home to several eels, as well as the rare eel Chasm-Haunter.

The Chasm-Haunter doesn’t appear to drop any unique items.

4) Elderspawn Nalaada

This rare eel can be found along the eastern edge of the Spears of Azshara. Elderspawn Nalaada can be surrounded by multiple fathom rays, so you may need to take care of them first.

Should you defeat Elderspawn Nalaada, there is a chance that it will drop the Spawn of Nalaada battle pet.

5) Elder Unu

Sitting in a small ruined building onto one of a hill in Kal’methir Citadel, Elder Unu awaits. You may need to clear the area of other makrura, as the Kil’karrok Hammerclaw are capable of stunning you, which could lead a quick death for you.

Elder Unu doesn’t appear to drop any unique items.

6) Prince Vortran

This rare wind revenant can be found at around the center of Spears of Azshara. When it spawns in, it may be surrounded by other mods that you many need to clear out first.

Upon defeating him Prince Vortran has a chance to drop the Stormwrath battle pet.

7) Shassera

The entrance to Shassera’s Lair can be found along the northern edge of the map in Shirakess Repository. Proceed to the back end of the of the cave system to find this rare shadow serpent awaiting you. Be warned, Shassera hits hard and it is not recommend for those of use who a squishing or lacking in self heals to try and solo.

Should you manage to defeat this beast, there is a chance for it to drop the Shadescale toy.

8) Siltstalker the Packmother

Siltstalker can be found laying downing on the stoop of a ruined building in the southern area of Nar’anan. Killing this rare snapdragon, acts as a trigger for the chance to have her mate, Banescale the Packfather, spawn in to avenge her

Siltstalker the Packmother doesn’t appear to drop any unique items.

9) Scale Matriarch Gratinax

One of three hydra rares that can be found in Ashen Strand. Only one of these matriarchs will spawn at a time, so if Gratinax has not spawned in, try looking for the other two scale matriarchs.

Defeating Scale Matriarch Gratinax, has a chance for her to drop the Scalebrood Hydra battle pet.

10) Scale Matriarch Vynara

One of three hydra rares that can be found in Ashen Strand. Only one of these matriarchs will spawn at a time, so if Vynara has not spawned in, try looking for the other two scale matriarchs.

Defeating Scale Matriarch Vynara, has a chance for her to drop the Scalebrood Hydra battle pet.

11) Scale Matriarch Zodia

One of three hydra rares that can be found in Ashen Strand. Only one of these matriarchs will spawn at a time, so if Zodia has not spawned in, try looking for the other two scale matriarchs.

Defeating Scale Matriarch Zodia, has a chance for her to drop the Scalebrood Hydra battle pet.

12) Alga the Eyeless

This is a particularly sneaky rare makrura. Alga the Eyeless can be found waiting in stealth with a gang of makrura waiting to ambush you. Be ready for a grinding fight, as Alga the Eyeless has a rather large health pool.

It doesn’t appear as though Alga the Eyeless drops any unique items.

13) Prince Typhonus

Situated between the two ships that the Horde and Alliance arrived in the area aboard, this is not a revenant to be taken lightly. Not only is it being protected by its fellow elementals, but it also has a devastating arch attack that can leave everyone in front of it rooted in place for up to 15 seconds.

Defeating Princess Typhonus, has a chance for it to drop the Seafury battle pet.

Wandering Rares

Arguably the hardest rares to pin down. Some of these rare have only a few locations in which they spawn, others on the other hand are much harder to track. A few of these rares can be found at any location within a specific area. Or they could spawn anywhere and everywhere across Nazjatar.

1) Amethyst Spireshell

Amethyst Spireshell is one of those rares that can be found all throughout Nazjatar. When trying to locate this rare snail, all we can advise is for you to check every flat surface around the area that your mini map is indicating, and we mean every flat surface. Amethyst Spireshell, likes to spawn on horizontal surfaces, this includes roads, inside caves, or even on high overhanging rocks. If it’s flat there’s a chance, Amethyst Spireshell can be found on it.

If you are luck enough to come across Amethyst Spireshell, there is a chance that it will drop the Amethyst Softshell battle pet.

2) Daggertooth Terror

There are seven different bodies of water that Daggertooth could spawn in. While traveling around Nazjatar, make sure to check out these streams and ponds for this rare piranha.

Defeating the Daggertooth Terror has a change of it dropping the Daggertooth Frenzy battle pet.

3) Mirecrawler

Mirecrawler is another one of those rares that can be found all throughout Nazjatar. When trying to locate this rare spiked snail, all we can advise is for you to check every wall around the area that your mini map is indicating, and we mean every wall. Mirecrawler, likes to spawn on vertical surfaces, this includes ruins, cave walls, or even pillars. If it’s vertical there’s a chance that Mirecrawler can be found on it.

If you’re luck enough to come across Mirecralwer, there is a chance that it will drop the Wriggler battle pet.

4) Needlespine

This rare spider crab can be found bathing in one of four different bodies of water in the northern areas of Nazjatar.

Should you defeat Needlespine, there is a chance that it could drop the Chitterspine Devourer battle pet.

5) Sandclaw Stoneshell

Not only can this rare crab spawn in as many as thirteen different locations, Sandclaw can also be found in many different colors as well, which gives it an additional appeal for the avid hunter to collect.

Upon defeating Sandclaw Stoneshell, it could drop the Glittering Diamondshell battle pet.

6) Deepglider

This rare fathom ray wanders around throughout the Coral Forest. If you find it in a less then ideal location to fight it, try following it for a bit until it arrives in a better spot for you engage it.

It doesn’t appear as though Deepglider drops any unique items.

7) Shiz’narasz the Consumer

A particularly nasty worm this one. It can be found along the edges of the pool of water in Chitterspine Caverns. When confronting this rare, you’ll need to make a choice, do you take the brunt of its attacks on the shoreline, or do you mitigate the damage by fighting Shiz’narasz the Consumer in the water, where you’re more open to attack from other creatures.

Surviving this encounter doesn’t appear to reward any unique items.

8) Garnetscale

There are at least four bodies of water in Ashen Strand that this rare turtle can be found in. As you make your way through the area, keep an eye out for a turtle soaking it up in a pool of water.

Yet another rare that does not appear to drop any unique items.

9) Iridescent Glimmershell

Iridescent Glimmershell is a rare giant hermit crab that shares its spawn locations with the Glimmershell Hulks withing the Dragon’s Teeth basin. While technically not a summoned rare, if you cant find it this one, you’ll need to kill off all of the Glimmershell Hulks until one of them spawns in as Iridescent Glimmershell.

If you defeat a Iridescent Glimmershell, it can drop the Pearlescent Glimmershell battle pet.

10) Soundless

The most highly sort after rare in Nazjatar. This rare fathom ray, has a terribly poor spawn rate. When it does spawn in, it can be found flying around the upper coral formations of the Coral Forest. Reaching Soundless without a flying mount is quite difficult, and the two main ways that people have managed to reach the top of the coral formations, is by jumping off of the nearby mountain ridges and using a glider to land on top of the forest, or by using Deepcoral Pods to jump their way on top.

As rare as Soundless is to spawn in, the drop rate for the Silent Glider mount is even worse.

11) Toxigore the Alpha

This rare snapdragon can be found in three locations that are close to one another in Nar’anan.

Like so many other rare in Nazjatar, Toxigore the Alpha, does not have any unique items to drop.

12) Allseer Oma’kil

This rare Makrura can be randomly found standing along edge of the river in Zin-Azshari, on the eastern side of Nazjatar.

Allseer Oma’kil does not appear to drop any unique rares.

Summoned Rares

These rares tend to be a little more predictable to spawn in. There are a few that are completely random, only spawning in occasionally in response to the players actions. But the majority of these spawns can be summoned by the player at will, as long as they have the appropriate triggers prepared.

1) Avarius

In the further most north-western corner of Nazjatar, you can find Brinestone Cove near the edge of the pool of water in Chitterspine Caverns. If you have the Brinestone Pickaxe, you can summon Avarius by firstly mining the brimestone deposite that’s in the center of a stone circle.

Once mined, the pickaxe will be removed from your inventory and the message “Brinestone deposits begin to form within the cove” will appear in your chat window. Find the hiden brinestone deposits within the cave and mine them for the five shards that are needed to summon Avarius.

Violet Brinestone Shard

Fiery Brinestone Shard

Jade Brinestone Shard

Azure Brinestone Shard

Amber Brinestone Shard

As soon as you have all five, take them to the stone pillers that for the circle and place them onto. When the last shard has been placed, you will be able to fight Avarius.

Defeat this rare Earth elemental, and there is a chance that it will drop a Brinestone Algan battle pet

2) Banescale the Packfather

This rare snapdragon will randomly appear after Siltstalker the Packmother has been defeated. Siltstalker can be killed by anyone in the area for it to trigger Banescale the Packfather’s summing.

Like Siltstalker the Packmother, Banescale does not appear to drop any unique items, but taming the pair could make them a worthwhile venture for an avid hunter to collect.

3) Carnivorous Lasher

If you find a Germinating Seed, take it to the path of fertile soil within the Coral Forest. Upon planting the seed, a lasher will sprout. Capture 10 x Bloated Seaflies and feed them to the lasher. After eating the 10th seaflie, the lasher will begin to crave your flesh and will burst forth to attack you.

You can control what additional items the Carnivorous Lasher drops by feeding it special Seaflies:

Germinating Seafly = Zin’anthid

Golden Seafly = Gold

Radiant Seafly = Azerite

In addition to the above mentioned drops, there is a chance foe the Carnivorous Lasher to also drop Coral Lashling battle pet.

4) King Gakula

Beware those who dare to scare tadpole murlocs. Within the Bloodfin Village you can find Bloodfin Tadpoles minding their own business. Right clicking on them will cause them to run away from you, and places the Anger of the Bloodfin debuff upon you.

The debuff will cause all nearby murlocs to focus their attacks on you, with even more murlocs continually to spawning in. Avoid this debuff if you need to interact will any NPCs within the village, as it can cause them to ignore you while the debuff is active.

When a total of 20-30 Bloodfin Tadpoles have been frightened by any play, King Gakula will yell out a warning. On his fourth warning, he will spawn in and attack the player(s) in the village.

Watch what he is saying to determine how far away he is from spawning in:

King Gakula yells: Mgrlgl? Gmrgurgl?

King Gakula yells: Murrrglurg? Murgglugrg!

King Gakula yells: Mrrglgl! Murgglagk!

King Gakula yells: Gak! Mugllglgll Gak!

Successfuly summon and defeat King Gakula, and he may drop you a Murgle battle pet.

5) Rockweed Shambler

Rockweed Shambler is one of the hardest rares to summon. The process is nothing difficult as all that it takes is for you to kill off the normal Algan mods that can be found throughout Nazjatar. What makes it difficult to summon this Earthen Elemental, is that the spawn rate is rather low, and it could appear after any normal Algan has been defeated.

In other words, you could kill 50 of them and never have it spawn in on you, while someone else on the other side of the map kills their first Algan, just to have it spawn on top of them.

Be lucky enough to cause Rockweed Shambler to spawn in, and it could drop the Budding Algan battle pet when defeated.

6) Sandcastle

Sandcastle likes to attack greedy treasure hunters. By using a Scrying Stone to find glimmering chest anywhere in Nazjatar, there is a small chance that Sandcastle will attack you for opening the chests you find. We have found a higher success rate for ourselves in the Zin-Azshari and the Drowned Market areas.

Deafeat the sand elemental and it might drop the Sandkeep battle pet.

7) Tidelord Aquatus

Summing Tidelord Aquatus is tied to defeating the three Azsh’ari Invokers that are performing a ritual around a pool of water. By killing these naga witches, a water revenant will spawn in within the pool of water. There is a chance that this revenant will spawn in as Tidelord Aquatus. If not, kill the revenant and wait for the Azsh’ari Invokers to spawn in again, and rinse and repeat until Tidelord Aqatus appears.

None of the Tidelords appear to drop any unique items.

8) Tidelord Dispersius

Like Tidelord Aquatus, Tidelord Dispersius is summoned by defeating the three Azsh’ari Invokers that are performing a ritual around a different pool of water. Killing these naga witches, will spawn in a water revenant which also has a chance of spawning in as Tidelord Dispersius. Keep killing the revenants and Azsh’ari Invokers until Tidelord Dispersius appears.

None of the Tidelords appear to drop any unique items.

9) Tidemistress Leth’sindra

While inside the zoatroid hatchery area of the Deepcoil Tunnels, you can summon this rare naga, by destroying enough of the intractable Undisturbed Specimens that are hidden among the zoatroid eggs to get her attention.

Tidemistress Leth’sindra can be made to drop the Shirakess Warning Sign toy when defeated.

10) Vor’koth

When you find Chum, throw it into the Eel-infested pool. This will cause Skittering Eels to spawn, and when they are killed, they will drop more even more chum. Keep throwing the chum you’ve looted from their corpses back into the water, and eventually this rare worm will be spawned in.

Defeat Vor’koth for your chance to get your hands on the Skittering Eel battle pet.

11) Anemonar

Anemonar is one of four Ancient Corals that are generally non-intractable. Until you anger them they will ignore your presence completely. Anemonar can be found in the Coral Forest, and is on not a solo mission. It would be advisable for you to have a healer and someone with an interrupt ability in your party. Trust us its just easier this way.

In order to anger Anemonar you will need to kite a Colossal Sky Ray over to him and kill it right next to him. Most people kite over the Colossal Sky Ray just north of Newhome, but any Colossal Sky Ray will work just fine.

Killing the ray will awaken Amemonar who will immediately begin to attack you are your party. Watch for his Coral Growth ability as it will heal him, so interrupt this ability as much as possible.

Defeating Anemonar has a chance of them dropping an Ancient Reefwalker Bark. These items can be traded in once a week to give all of your bodyguards 100 experience points, and 350 Ankoan/Unshackled reputation points for yourself.

12) Kelpwillow

Kelpwillow is one of four Ancient Corals that are generally non-intractable. Until you anger them they will ignore your presence completely. Kelpwillow can be found in the Spears of Azshara region, just south of Thoras’tal Spire. Kelpwillow is an easy enough to anger Ancient Coral as they appear to hate Muck Slugs. It would be advisable for you to have an interrupt ability in your party, trust us its just easier this way.

The process to anger Kelpwillow is quite a simple one really, just use a Primatic Crystal to charm a Muck Slug Critter (must be a critter and not a battle pet) and guide it over to Kelpwillow’s foot, and your done. Be sure to interrupt the Coral Growth ability as it will heal Kelpwillow.

Defeating Kelpwillow has a chance of them dropping an Ancient Reefwalker Bark. These items can be traded in once a week to give all of your bodyguards 100 experience points, and 350 Ankoan/Unshackled reputation points for yourself.

13) Oronu

In the Highborne Estates along the northern edge of the map near the water wall, Oronu can be found standing guard at location 13b. He is one of four Ancient Corals that will ignore you until you anger them. To anger Oronu, all you need is a Drowned Hatchling pet. If you don’t have one, you can purchase them off of Feylana the Handler (located at 13a) in the Drowned Market, for 40 Prismatic Manapearls.

To anger him, all you need to do is summon this undead pet, and he will become so angered at the loss of a young life that he will attack you and/or your party. Be mindful of his Coral Growth ability as it will heal him and would be best to interrupt it.

Defeating Oronu has a chance of them dropping an Ancient Reefwalker Bark. These items can be traded in once a week to give all of your bodyguards 100 experience points, and 350 Ankoan/Unshackled reputation points for yourself.

14) Urduu

Urduu is the last of the four Ancient Corals that stand in silent watch over Nazjatar. He can be found next to the Bloodfin Village, and not far from the Alathir Spire. Like Anemonar, Urduu requires a specific creature to be kited to him, and killed at his feet.

In this case, Urduu is angered when you kill a Staghorn Reefwalker right in front of him. He needs to see this Reefwalker die in front of him, some people find that if the Reefwalker dies too quickly, it doesn’t always work, so take your time with them just in case. Once angered watch for his Coral Growth ability, and don’t let him heal with it.

Defeating Urduu has a chance of them dropping an Ancient Reefwalker Bark. These items can be traded in once a week to give all of your bodyguards 100 experience points, and 350 Ankoan/Unshackled reputation points for yourself.

15) Voice in the Deeps

To summon this zoatroid rare, you will need to set it free by riding a Molted Shell into the rubble that has it trapped. Molted Shells are be picked up from various locations throughout Kal’methir.

Be warned, this is not a rare that you’d want to take on your own, even if you can heal through the damage. It has a health pool that is a whopping 8 million+ Hp, and it also hits very hard, so bring some friends along just in case.

Succeed in defeating this rare, and you will be granted the buff – Silencer. Which makes all Kil’karrok makrura neutral to you for 1 hour. This isn’t much of a buff, but should you have it on while using a Scrying Stone, you will be less likely to be interrupted while you hunt for treasure chests in the area.

Happy Hunting

The latest patch 8.2, the Rise of Azshara, has just been released on the June 25th. This update brings with it a new and exciting zone for both factions to explore and fight over. Those of us who are of level 120, and have completed the faction specific quest “Uniting Kul Tiras” or “Uniting Zandalar,” we will receive a popup quest from Genn Greymane or Nathanos Blightcaller. Upon accepting this quest, you will find this NPC aboard your faction’s warship. Follow the prompts, and you will trigger the below cinematic.

Tensions Continue

Using a tide-stone to trap the fleets by creating a hole in the ocean, Queen Azshara will cause both factions to fall into her kingdom, and face her mighty naga army. While this new zone may be shared by both factions, and we may have a common enemy in the naga, the war will still rage on. Every three hours a world PvP event will take place. Known as The Battle for Nazjatar, this event will have both sides fighting for control over five key locations over the next 45 minutes. The faction that acquires 3,000 victory points first, will win the event. To achieve the rewarded Nazjatar Battle Commendations, you must kill at least one member of the opposing faction..

New Allies

As their vessels crashed onto Nazjatar, both factions will find themselves in different locations of the map. By exploring, these areas we will come across our new allied faction. The Alliance will meet a race of deep-sea warrior fish-folk, known as the Waveblade Ankoan. Likewise, the Horde will come across a group of resistance fighters that have managed to hold off or escape from the naga. Calling themselves the the Unshackled, their numbers include races, such as the Gilbin, Makura, and even Sea Giants.

Where is Nazjatar Located?

Even though Nazjatar is a submerged landmass, it does not appear on the world map. It looks as though Nazjatar is located between Zandalar and Kul Tiras. When viewing either of these continent’s full map, you can see the map icon for Nazjatar in the upper right corner. But when viewing Nazjatar’s map, Zandalar’s icon can be seen to the left, and Kul Tiras’ icon is to the right. This leads us to believe that Nazjatar is situated somewhere between the two continents, which matches up with the cinematic trailer. Travel to and from Nazjatar, can only be achieved via portals once one can be established. This limited method of travel, and lack of global map representation, does have the effect of making Nazjatar feel more like a zone or world instance, rather than a true continent of its own.

New Discoveries Abound

Aside from new gear and weapons, the new zone also brings with it new beasts for hunters to tame, herbs for herbalists to gather, mounts for us to ride and wild critters for us to collect and battle with. Professions have also been expanded upon, allowing us to create new items for our characters, champions, and even our mounts. Building up our reputation with our new allies can grant leather workers, tailors and enchanters the patterns for mount specific accessories.

Not only do we now have access to Nazjatar, we now also have access to a new island to the northwest of Drustvar. This new island is the location of the lost home of the Mechagnomes, Mechagon Island. This new island give us even more new enemies, a new faction ally, new pets and other collectibles and gear. The town on the island is a neutral zone for both Horde and Alliance to share, so even though the guards will aim to keep the peace, you’d best watch your back if you’re out number. You can reach the island at anytime by making your way across the water, but in order to unlock the flight path and gain access to the NPCs and daily quests; you need to complete the first stages of the story line of Nazjatar before you will be sent to Mechagon Island.

Can the Rise of Azshara Improve the Game?

While the sate of the game and its worth can be a rather subjective topic, we here at LtK are feeling very optimistic. The new gear leveling mechanics, will hopefully improve upon the somewhat lackluster feel we got when leveling our gear in BfA’s base game. Even though this update is still a far cry from the experiences we have had in classic WoW, we are still hopeful that this update will be enough to tie us over until the Legacy Serves go live at the end of August.

World of Warcraft was first released back in 2004. Though additional content, in the form of Raids and Dungeons, may have been released in the game over the years as part of various patch updates; it wasn’t until the release of the first expansion The Burning Crusade in 2007, that the game began to truly change and evolve, becoming what it is today.

Why Are People So Excited About Legacy Servers

With the addition of each new additional expansion

The Burning Crusade

Wrath of the Lich King

Cataclysm

Mists of Pandaria

Warloads of Draenor

Legion

Battle for Azeroth

More and more changes were made that drastically changed the game’s mechanics, content and lore. Some of the changes were greatly appreciated, others turned players away.

I myself must admit that following WotLK, I was turned off the game. BC allowed me to work hard at turning my Moonkin into a Panzerkin (aka moonkin tank) it was hard work, and every fight was a challenge but I loved it. WotLK took that away from me and as such, I lost interest in the game for awhile.

This is why I can understand that there are so many people out there that miss the vanilla WoW experience, and why there have been several “illegal” private servers that have popped up over the years. There is no getting around the fact that in the early days, WoW had a lot of problems of its own, and veteran players aren’t blind to this. In fact, the nostalgia comes more from the experiences we had with player interactions, trying to build a reputation for yourself in the community. This could be challenging with just how much hard work it took to make yourself stronger.

Today we are spoilt in the game. Back then, there was no dungeon finder, and specs were locked to your current selection. In fact, abilities weren’t even automatically granted when you leveled up, you actually had to go and find a class trainer in order to learn new abilities. Even classes like the druid required you to complete various quests in order to be able to unlock set abilities as well.

Another thing with the current game today, is that gear is virtually meaningless while we level. We level up so fast in the current version, yes even in BFA, that there’s virtually no urgency in seeking out bigger and better gear until we have level capped. Classic WoW on the other hand involved leveling your character in two ways, physically with exp, and gear wise. Yes this was a slow and tedious grind, but the thrill of finally being able to get into the next instance or raid, is was what drove us on.

What Do We Hope to Get Out of Legacy Servers

Legacy servers will hopefully bring back that sense of achievement that has been taken out of the game over the years. I know it’s been said a dozen times in the past, but older games were more difficult. Games today are more user friendly making them much easier, less technical, and less social. Hopefully legacy servers will allow new players that never got to experience vanilla WoW, the opportunity to take part in something new… I mean old… you know what i mean.

Even if the game is not for them, they will at least get to see just how much the game has changed over the past 15 years. So here are a few of the things we are looking forward to from the Legacy Servers.

Making the Game More Social Again

For the veteran players like myself, we are looking forward to a more socially driven game. Back then if you wanted to take part in an instance or a raid, you needed to know people that were doing it. This meant building rapport with people and truly becoming part of a guild and helping to build communities.

I was primarily a solo player, and geared and spec’ed for it, but even then I was part of a guild. The guild I was part of was not large enough to run raids on our own, so we developed relationships with other guilds and cross networked. We helping one another out, and suggesting members for various jobs. If someone needed a hand, you’d help them out simply because they could be good enough to be worth poaching, or at the least it could get you an invite at a later date.

Today, we just don’t see this sort of interaction on that level anymore. Thanks to the Dungeon Finder system that was first implemented in WotLK, long gone is the need to find someone that would fit in within your group. Now players from other realms can simply join a queue and wait for a group to be formed. This one simple feature has made WoW more isolated then ever before, removing the need for many players to join a guild or form lasting friendships.

Preparation and Foresight Being Important

The two biggest differences between Classic WoW and Modern WoW, has a lot to do with skills and abilities. As we mentioned before, gaining better skills requires you to visit a class trainer to learn your new abilities. What you may not realize, is that this isn’t just limited to class specific abilities such as spells and attacks. This also applied to weapons.

Starting out, each class has a base level proficiency with set weapon types. As you earn money, you can approach weapon masters who can train your character in using different weapons that matches their classes fighting style.

Each weapon proficiency starts off as level 1. The more you use a weapon the better you will get at it. If you never use a weapon your character will not be familiar with it. What this means is that should you favor the mace over the sword or an axe, and if one of your higher level weapon drops just happens to be a weapon you are not proficient with and had better stats, then you would miss most of your hits if you tried using it.

To help counter this, you needed to keep swapping out your weapons as you leveled. If you chose not to do this, then you would have to return to a lower level area in order to train with your new weapon.

The same thing goes for raids and dungeons, if you do not spec you character correctly, or if the team is missing vital abilities such as buffs, debuffs, and crowd control, you could find these runs to be much harder then they need to be.

Lets not forget about the need for reagents. Many class abilities required reagents in order to be able to perform the desired task. From shards and crystals, to roots and vials of poison, there were many abilities that could not be done without these vital components. This made venturing into the unknown very risky should you not go in prepared with the a healthy stockpile of reagents.

Skills and Talent Trees

Unlike modern WoW that allows you to change your spec whenever you are in a resting zone such as an inn or capital city, classic WoW locks you into your selected spec until you pay gold to have it reset. Each time you respeced within a 30 day period, the cost would increases by 5 gold up to a cap of 50 gold per respec (5g-50g).

This made experimenting with builds rather costly. Yet the open branches did allow for some cross specing. My Panzerkin Moonkin was classed as a hybrid with talents selected from both the Feral and Balanced branches. Cross specing a hybrid is not as easy as it sounds as you are sacrificing one talent for another, and in many cases this leaves your character performing rather poorly.

The cost involved with respecing, and the risks that come from cross specing your class, meant that planning your characters build was important from the get go. If you were a solo player, then survivability is what mattered most. If you knew that you will be part of a team for most of your adventures, then filling the role of either Tank, Dps, or Healer was vital in guaranteeing your team’s success.

All of this is sorely lacking in modern WoW. Outside of instances and raids, most if not all classes can survive on their own. Healers deal more damage then they did in classic, Dps are not as squishy as they once were. The challenge of simply trying to make it out of an area alive has been removed.

Mobs and Encounters

Getting cocky in vanilla WoW, was at times a stupid thing to do. All it would take to turn the tides when you were fighting mobs, would be the inclusion of just one more enemy to kill. That was it, just that one extra enemy would be enough to kill a solo player easily, or even wipe a team should the healer be the one to get jumped by it. Simply put, the mobs in modern WoW have been vastly nerfed compared to how they were back then.

This made pulling mobs of enemies far more difficult then what it is like in modern WoW. Not to mention that aggro was easily stolen off the tank should the healer be healing too much, or if the Dps was dishing out too much damage. This made finding that right balance of taking on what your team could handle, while pacing yourself to be efficient, yet maintaining an output that the tank could manage, both fun and frustrating at the same time.

Professions and Crafting

One thing that a lot of players are complaining about in the live version of WoW is that professions are pretty much pointless now. Back in the day, professions were vital in ensuring your guild’s and your own success. High end gear wasn’t just gained via loot drops in dungeons and raids, they were also crafted by the players. Some patterns were so rare that a player could make a fortune off of making these items. This put some guilds in a position of power, and allowed some players to function as their own traveling merchant of sorts.

Aside from the financial incentives, leveling up a profession was actually worth your time, as more often then not, you were able to craft something that was better then what you were currently using.

Combat Mechanics

Over the years, many things were taken out of the game or changed. Hunters no longer need to worry about running out of ammunition, a Warlock no longer needs to dismiss their demon before they are able to summon a new one.

If you were to try playing classic WoW the same way you do now in modern WoW, you’re going to be in for a surprise and a half. Two Warriors that dashed at each other, would leave one another stunned. Mages could polymorph one another at the same time. Cooldowns, casting times, effect duration, all these mechanics have been tweaked over the years, for better or for worse. In either case the combat play style may not be what you are expecting if you’ve never played vanilla WoW.

Traveling

This one is a mixed bag of opinions. We literally had to walk everywhere in classic WoW. Until you reached level 40, there were no mounts, and even then they were slower then what we have now, and you may not have even been able to afford one to begin with. Even flight paths had to be earned. In order to unlock every flight path you had to walk all the way to the flight master and speak with them. This even included having to travel through higher leveled zones, just to get to where you needed to be as part of your current quest line.

When you wanted to take part in an instance or raid, you had to travel there yourself. So if you were below level 40, and where you needed to go was no where near a flight path, you literally had to walk all the way there. This meant that someone would ended up using reagents and other items before they even started the event. Heck many people even died on the way simply because they got out numbered by mobs of enemies.

How much of this “authentic” experience will remain, we can not be sure about. What we’re thinking that is more then likely to happen, is that you’ll need to get your walking shoes ready.

When Will the Legacy Servers Go Live?

Today we have finally been given a global release date for Classic World of Warcraft. On August 27th 2019 (26th for the US and England) the Legacy servers will be going live. Before then a few lucky WoW players will be selected to take part on the betta testing beginning on May 15th and continuing though out July.

How Do I Sign Up for the Betta Test?

Simply follow this link Betta Application, sign in and keep your fingers crossed that you will be selected. Not everyone can take part in the betta test. The select few that will be chosen, are going to be helping to stress test the servers. Level caps will be in place to help ensure that the game is properly stress tested.

STRESS TEST SCHEDULE – Dates subject to change.
Stress Test 1: Wed May 22–Thurs May 23
Stress Test 2: Wed Jun 19– Thurs Jun 20
Stress Test 3: Thurs Jul 18– Fri July 19

What We Do Know About the Legacy Servers

The Legacy Servers are not going to be rolled back to the original day one version, bugs and all. What we will be getting is the 1.12 version: Drums of War, which was updated shortly before the Burning Crusade Expansion. The game will also be re-balanced so that higher leveled, more powerful items will be released later on in phase 5, rather then with the dungeons and raids themselves.

How Much Will the Legacy Server Cost?

There are no additional fees and charges involved with accessing the Legacy Server. As long as you have an active subscription, you will be able to play both the Modern and the Classic versions. Unlike the modern version which does allow for a subscription free “trail account”, there will be no such accounts available for the classic WoW, as only those with a subscription will be able to access the Legacy Servers.

What is the Level Cap Going to Be?

The max level cap will be rolled back to level 60. This doesn’t mean that you will be making out your chracters anytime soon. Unlike the reduced leveling requirements of modern WoW; classic WoW will be using the old system. Leveling in classic WoW was far more tedious and grindy, making it a much slower experience, which is why gear was far more important back then.

Will There Be a Dungeon Finder?

At this point in time, no there will not be. If they do implement one, it would be highly unlikely that it would be the random queuing system that they use now.

What is the Roadmap?

There have been a total of 6 phases announced for the game. Like we mentioned early, gear is being scaled to suit the current phase rather then what the original dungeon or raid rewarded.

The phases for the instances and raids are as follows:

Phase 1: (Classic Launch): Molten Core, Onyxia, Maraudon

Phase 2: Dire Maul, Azuregos, Kazzak

Phase 3: Blackwing Lair, Darkmoon Faire, Darkmoon deck drops begin

Phase 4: Zul’Gurub, Green Dragons

Phase 5: Ahn’Qiraj War Effort begins, Ahn’Qiraj raids open when the war effort dictates

Dungeon loot rewards will be reconfigured for Tier 0.5 Dungeon gear, Relics, drop rates and location changes.

Phase 6: Naxxramas, Scourge Invasion

The phases for PvP content, are as follows:

Phase 1: (Classic Launch): Open world PvP is available, but there will be no kill tracking, nor any formal rewards either.

Phase 2: Honor System: this includes Dishonorable Kills, and PvP Rank Rewards

Phase 3: Alterac Valley, Warsong Gulch Battlegrounds

Phase 4: Arathi Basin Battleground

Phase 6: World PvP objectives in Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands

One thing to take note of, is that though we have the roadmap, we have yet to be given a time frame for when the phases will take place, after the servers go live.

What Races will be Available?

Only the vanilla races will be available, there will be no races or classes that were added during and expansion.

Will My Current Account Bound Items be Accessible in Classic WoW?

No. When you start a classic WoW account, it will be a new account completely separate from your existing account. This means that there will be no toys, mounts, pets, heirloom items, nor maps that unlock flight paths, that can be accessed in classic WoW. Nor will you be able to mail money or items between your classic and modern characters.

What Will Be the Maximum Number of Characters You Can Have?

As classic and modern WoW will be functioning independently from one another, characters on either account will not count towards each other’s account maximum. This means that should you wish, you could have 50 classic account toons, and 50 modern account toons. Each server will be limited to a cap of 10 toons each however.

What Sort of Content Will Not Be present?

Pretty much anything that was introduced in The Burning Crusade or later, this includes transmogs, achievements, battle pets, and cross realm interaction.

There has been no mention on the quality of life improvements that have been introduced. Some things would carry over as a result of improved technology but what exactly we do not know.

What Type of Servers Will There Be and How Many?

How many and where? We can not say, not even Blizzard knows these details as of yet. Safe to say that they will be basing this on player feed back and interest before committing to anything for sure.

As for what type? There will be the old PvP only, PvE, and Role-Playing servers. Each server was setup so that if you chose the PvP server you could not turn off PvP. PvE did allow for PvP if you opted to turn it on for yourself. Role-Playing servers are for those that which to role play their characters, not wanting to role play could result in you being removed from the server.

What Sort of Graphics Will There Be?

The models themselves will be based off of the original 2004 release, though one could be forgiven for expecting the game to run a lot more smoothly with some degree of upgrade.

Conculsion

We at LtK are looking forward to the release of the Legacy Servers. The prospect of playing classic WoW has us excited and we can’t wait to experience the nostalgia all over again.

As we do like to think that we are a realistic bunch, there are a few quality of life improvements that we would like to see carried over. Simple things such as mounts not being treated as a carriable item that takes up a precious bag or bank slot, and the improved user interface that has been upgraded over the years.

Either way, we hope to see you in Azeroth if not fighting by our side, then on the battlefield.

For the Nostalgia!!!! ?

Each battle pet has 3 available ability slots that open up at levels 1, 2 and 4. At levels 10, 15, and 20, a secondary ability becomes available for each of their slots.

This allows some battle pets to be able to chain their own abilities together, using one ability to set up another to deal an additional effect. Or they can be used to complement the team by changing the weather conditions, or giving the opposing team a status effect that could benefit the rest of the team.

This means that some battle pets can have counters against other abilities, or abilities that can help setup the winning strike. In this article, we will be covering the abilities that can provide a status effect that can be used to your advantage with the right follow up ability.

Status Effects

There are 7 different status effects that offer a different strategic advantage, whether it’s additional damage caused by DoT effects, lowering the targets chance to land a blow, or setting them up for more damage, each status effect can be used to your advantage.

1) Bleeding

Not only does bleeding causes an additional X amount of Beast damage once per round for Y amount of rounds, it also allows other abilities used against the target to gain addition effects.

Blood in the water – Always hits the target

Maul – Deals additional damage

The following abilities grant the bleeding status effect:

Chop

Huge, Sharp Teeth!

Rip

Woodchipper

2) Blinded

Blinded does just that, it blinds the target preventing them from being able to land a blow. Most abilities only limit the effect to just one round, which makes it useful for countering against a multi-attack such as Triple Snap. As well as causing the target to miss their next attack, blinding your opponent allows the following abilities to gain additional effects.

Fury of 1,000 Fists – has a 100% chance to stun the target

Light – Deals double damage

Nocturnal Strike – Always hits the target

Spectral Strike – Always hits the target

The following abilities grant the blinded status effect:

Blinding Poison

Call Darkness

Flash

Lens Flare

Spectral Spine

3) Burning

The burning status effect deals an additional X amount of elemental damage each round for Y rounds. When a burning target is struck with Conflagrate it receives additional damage.

Conflagrate – Deals additional elemental damage to the target

The following abilities grant the burning status effect:

Fel Immolate

Flame Breath

Flame Jet

Flamethrower

Immolate

Scorched Earth – Weather Condition

4) Chilled

The chilled status effect does not have any active effect of its own. Instead, when other abilities are used on a chilled target, they gain additional effects.

Deep Freeze – has a 100% chance to stun the target

Howling Blast – Deals additional damage to the target

Ice Lance – Deals additional damage to the target

The following abilities grant the chilled effect:

Call Blizzard – Weather Condition

Frost Nova

Frost Shock

Slippery Ice

5) Poisoned

Unlike the other status effects, a poisoned target will be under an effect that’s specific to the ability that poisoned them. They could take addition damage per round, they could receive extra damage from follow up attacks, or they could even harm themselves when they attack. One thing that is for sure, is that Puncture Wound gains an addition effect when it is used on a poisoned target regardless of the poisons effect.

Puncture Wound – Deals double the damage

The following abilities grant the poison effect:

Acidic Goo

Blinding Poison

Confusing Sting

Creeping Ooze

Poison Fang

Poison Lash

Poison Protocol

Poison Spit

Poisoned Branch

6) Stunned

A stunned target must forfeit their next turn, leaving them open for an easy attack. Should a stunned target be hit with a Takedown, it gives the ability an extra effect.

Takedown – Deals double the damage

The following abilities grant the stunned status effect:

Amber Prison

Bash

Blackout Kick

Clobber

Crystal Prison

Frying Pan

Headbutt

Holy Justice

Fury of 1,000 Fists – Requires the target to be bleeding

Deep Freeze – Requires the target to be chilled

7) Webbed

A target suffering the webbed status effect, would not be swapped out or will receive damage when they attack.

Leech Life – Heals for twice the amount

Spiderling Swarm – Deals double the damage

The following abilities grant the webbed status effect:

Brittle Webbing

Sticky Web

Weather Conditions

Much like the status effects, weather conditions can cause additional damage, prevent escape, or affect healing and the chances to land a blow. The biggest difference between weather conditions and status effect abilities, is that they effect all active battle pets, and last for 9 rounds, with the exception of Darkness, which last 5 rounds.

The effects of the weather conditions, can not be removed, unless the condition itself has run its full course or has been replaced with another one.

1) Arcane Winds

Arcane winds prevents pets from being stunned or rooted.

Arcane Winds is caused by:

Arcane Storm

While active, Arcane Winds will give the following abilities an additional effect:

Mana Surge – Deals additional damage to the target

Psychic Blast – Deals additional damage to the target

2) Blizzard

For as long as Blizzard is active, all pets are considered chilled.

The Blizzard weather condition is caused by:

Call Blizzard

White active, Blizzard will give the following abilities an additional effect:

Belly Slide – This ability will go first regardless of initiative

Deep Freeze – has a 100% chance to stun the target

Howling Blast – Deals additional damage to the target

Ice Lance – Deals additional damage to the target

3) Cleansing Rains

For as long as Cleansing Rain is active, hostile DoT effects last one round less, and aquatic pets deal 25% more damage.

Cleansing Rain is caused by:

Acid Rain

Cleansing Rain

While Cleansing Rain is active, if Dreadful Breath is used it gives the ability and additional effect:

Dreadful Breath – Deals additional damage to the target

4) Darkness

All pets are considered to be Blinded during Darkness, and all healing they receive is reduced by 50%.

Darkness is caused by:

Call Darkness

While in effect, Darkness gives the following abilities additional affects:

Surge of Light – has a 100% chance to stun the target

Fury of 1,000 Fists – has a 100% chance to stun the target

Light – Deals double damage

Nocturnal Strike – Always hits the target

Spectral Strike – Always hits the target

5) Lightning Storm

Lightning strikes accompany every attack during a Lighting Storm, dealing bonus Mechanical damage, and boosting the damage of Mechanical abilities by 25%.

Lighting Storm is caused by:

Call Lightning

At present, there are no abilities that gain addition effects during a Lighting Storm. Though the bonus mechanical damage is not limited to one strike per round.

6) Moonlight

All healing received under the Moonlight is increased by 25%, with Magic abilities dealing an additional 10% damage as well.

Moonlight is created by:

Moon Tears

Moonfire

Starfall

The following abilities gain addition effects under the Moonlight:

Creeping Fungus – Deals additional damage to the target

Spirit Claws – Always hits the target

7) Mudslide

All pets entering the battle, are rooted for 3 rounds, and can not be swapped out.

Mudslides are caused by:

Mudslide

As of writing the article, there are no additional effects granted to abilities used in a Mudslide

8) Sandstorm

Sandstorms make it harder for all battle pets to land a good blow, accuracy is reduced by 10% and all pets take less damage as well.

A Sandstorm is is caused by:

Sandstorm

To date, there are no abilities that gain an additional effect from being used during a Sandstorm.

9) Scorched Earth

All active pets are considered to be burning and continue to receive Dragonkin damage each round.

Scorched Earth is caused by:

Scorched Earth

The burning effect of Scorched Earth gives Conflagrate an addition effect:

Conflagrate – Deals additional elemental damage to the target

10) Sunny Day

The maximum health of all pets is increased by 100% and healing received is also increased by 25%

Sunny Days are created by:

Illuminate

Sunlight

The following abilities gain additional effects if they are used during a Sunny Day:

Photosynthesis – Doubles the amount of healing

Solar Beam – Deals additional damage to the target

As part of the Battle For Azeroth expansion, the World Quests Make Loh Go were introduced for the Tortollan Seekers faction. Through the use of a puzzle maze, these quests retell the story of a young Tortollan by the name of Loh and his adventures at different locations through out Kul Tiras and Zandalar.

The aim of these quests, is to guide Loh to the designated points in the maze without crossing a path he has already traveled.

Should you encounter any bugs, such as Loh spawning in the wrong location, or any attempt at finishing the maze sends him back to the beginning, exit the mini game and try again. These are know bugs, and we can’t guarantee that you wont experience them.

Enjoy yourself some Tortollan Seekers interactive story telling.
