This years fall fundraising events have started off slow but we have had a blast taking part in them! The Lexie’s Legacy concert was a great name and raised a great chunk for the scholarship! While the poker run may have turned out to be a bust we had fun at this year’s Acoutipalooza and even raised a few more bucks for the cause. Now we are looking at three more events this year to try and pull in some more dough to get us closer to full endowment status.

Bloodfest XV - October 24th @ Sky City will feature five great bands at an event that is returning for its fifteenth time! Ticket’s are $8 in advance and $10. at the door. This is looking like it could be a great fundraiser with a portion of the proceeds going to the scholarship.

The Lexie’s Legacy 5K @ Riverwalk Augusta will be an afternoon walk/run on the Savannah River on a cool fall afternoon followed by a fun afterparty at Sky City. All one has to do to attend this event is pay $10! The donation also includes a special Walk/Run t-shirt!

Rocking the Stocking XV @ Sky City continues our yearly tradition in honor of Kevin Scott Brown, another loved one we lost too early. This will feature many Augusta musicians singing in front of a one-night only house band!

So you see, a lot going on and as always we look forward to seeing all of our friends at each and every event.

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, here’s a look at the events you can count on so far!

The 2nd Annual Lexie’s Legacy Memorial Concert will once again be held at Sky City this year on August 14th. Just like last year the stage will be rocking with artists close to Alexis including Alexis’ fave Augusta band Jemani, Allgood Asylum, the Vellotones, Reed Brown Beret, and “Uncle” Doug James. Cover is only $8. Doors open at 8PM with a special unnannounced short musical performance at 9PM followed by the four above mentioned artists. Once again, all proceeds benefit the Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship Fund and our goal of making full endowment status by year’s end.

The Lexie’s Legacy Poker Bike Run is still in the planning stages but look for info soon on this all day event to be held on September 19th.

The Lexie’s Legacy 5k Walk/Run will be held November 14th at Riverwalk Augusta with a special musical after party at Sky City. Interested walkers/runners will be able to sign up soon starting at the August 14th event. Sign up will be $20 and will include a t-shirt and goody bag on the day of the event which will be held at the 9th Street plaza of Riverwalk from 2 to 6PM and will cover all of the Riverwalk area for a stroll like no other in Augusta. Walkers/runners will get a donation sheet when signing up to raise additional funds through friends, family, co-workers, etc. Great local prizes will be given out to “Most Funds Raised” as well as several other categories. As usual, all proceeds go to the Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship Fund. For more information on where and how to sign up email info@lexieslegacy.org or call John Cannon at 706.836.5683.

LEXIE’S LASTING LEGACY

The Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship fund, founded in memory of Alexis Noelle Colohan-Cannon Hayworth, daughter of local musician John “Stoney” Cannon, has reached endowment status. That means enough money has been raised to keep the scholarship fund, which awards grants to married women seeking a college education, going in perpetuity. It’s a fitting tribute to Alexis and her family, immediate and musical.

It says a great deal about the musicians in this town that in a relatively short time, thanks in no small part to their efforts and contributions, this endowment has gotten up and running. I know Stoney and his wonderful wife, Jean, are grateful.

All of us at Lexie’s Legacy are proud to announce that, as of Thursday, June 18, 2009, 11:00 A.M., the Lexie’s Legacy Scholarship Fund at Augusta State University is now officially an endowment.

Lexie’s Legacy co-founder John “Stoney” Cannon turned over a check for $10,000 to Helen Hendee of the Augusta State Foundation in a meeting held at the ASU Maxwell Alumni House this past Thursday morning.

Just got in from night II of AVERY LEXIE WEEKEND which was the Choice Awards and man we are bushed from great music, love, and lotsa hugs!

Sold more CDs, T-Shirts, and Arm Bands and the cool part is:

A couple hundred people now have A VERY LEXIE CD!!!! and are being turned on to 16 great lokal bands, more people will be walking around with Lexie Tees, and we pulled in another grand for Lexie’s Legacy which I believe puts us over $10,000 raised, halfway to the endowment with some great fundraisers of different proportions coming up to possibly include a walkathon, a cookbook, and dinner.

Our dear friend Scott Hudson came out as special sit-in for Major Deke Copenhaver and presented Jean and I with a special proclamation and framed document officially pronouncing it A VERY LEXIE WEEKEND! This means the world to us and we will cherish it forever.

And the music? Every band seemed driven by not only what the awards brings out every year but the “Melody of Alexis” and it was a most awesome night and weekend overall. And people wonder why I LOVE AUGUSTA MUSIC!

Jeannie and I stuck with tradition and started the night at Mellow Mushroom and ended it at Huddle House.

All that was missing was that beautiful smile and infectious laugh.

Bittersweet.

Jeannie and I cannot properly express how much we love our family AND extended family here in Augusta. This city has taken us in over the years and made us not only feel loved, but we are better people for being allowed the privilege of being a part of this family.

Also much love to our Lexie Crew: Pam, John, Frank, Sara, Jeff…u guys are the rockingest!

And of course huge love and thanks to Coco Rubio and the staff at Sky City. They made it easy.

And a thank you to MY knight in shining armor who is always saving my ass even if he doesn’t really have to: Nick “7G” Laws. It has been a blessing to get to know you better. You are truly a great friend and great person.

Love, Hearts, Stars, and Peace,

AUGUSTA, GA - Sixteen tracks by various bands from around the Augusta, Georgia area, “A Very Lexie CD” is a collection of many different styles released by Stoney Cannon from Lokal Loudness.

Will McCranie opens the album with the high-energy, funky Dave Matthews-with-attitude song “This Time.” The acoustic, bluesy-voiced “Whiskey Bottle” by Allison Foster lets loose with a moody goosebump-inducing song that really stands out on this CD, as does “Promises” by NoStar.

For those craving something a little harder, there are tracks by Shotgun Opera and Suhgarim. Chairleg’s “Mecha” hits the listener over the head with some straight forward metal. Be warned, some of this stuff will knock your socks off.

“Menthol Longs” by the Dew Hickies is one of the best tracks on the album, sounding a little bit like Hank III.

The Mellencamp / Bon Jovi soft rock of the G-City Rockers runs well with 48 Volt’s dual male-female vocals on “Five Years.”

A compilation of many talented bands, the real standout aspect of “A Very Lexie CD” is the variety on the album, and the simple fact that so many talented musicians come from within miles of one another. There’s something for everyone on this album.
