Levy County Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify three subjects captured on home surveillance attempting to break into vehicles. Today Deputies, Detectives and Crime Scene personnel responded to nine different reports in the Inglis and Yankeetown area and are attempting to identify the perpetrators.

Multiple theft reports were taken by deputies. These reported thefts were mainly from owners whose vehicles were unlocked. This is an unfortunate reminder that we must LOCK our vehicles every time they are left unattended, even if we are at home. Remove any valuables and firearms from inside the vehicle.

Chiefland Man Arrested for Sexual Misconduct

On May 2, 2023 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct which occurred between John H. Jordan (2/20/63) of Chiefland and a 13 year old child. Detectives began their investigation conducting multiple interviews. In cooperation with the Florida Department of Children and Family Services Child Protection Team, Detectives obtained evidence of multiple sexual encounters Jordan had with the child which began in December of 2022.

On May 5, 2023 Detectives confronted Jordan at his home and obtained his statement. Jordan made statements to Detectives which corroborate details obtained from the victim and witnesses. Detectives took Jordan into custody at the conclusion of his statements.

A search warrant was also executed at Jordan’s home. Detectives collected multiple items from inside the home that will be forensically reviewed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Forensic Laboratory for DNA. Detectives also seized electronic devices which will also be examined.

Jordan was booked into the Levy County Detention Facility. He has been charged with two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Battery and two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation. He is being held on and $1,300,000.00 bond.

Missing Children Located in Colorado

Yesterday, April 24, 2023 the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in cooperation with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office issued a nationwide missing child alert. Levy County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were working with the Florida Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) to execute an order of protective custody for two children, Raiden Phoenix (1 year old) and Ember Willoughby (11 months). The children were temporarily placed in the custody of Raymond Otero (48) of Williston when the children’s mother, Hailey Palmer (21) of Williston was arrested for an outstanding warrant issued from the State of Indiana. Palmer was extradited to Indiana where she is being held and her release date is unknown.

Raymond Otero refused to cooperate with DCF Agents during the investigation and fled the State of Florida with the children. Shortly before midnight last night the Levy County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the children had been located in Colorado. Law Enforcement at the Rocky Ford Police Department in Otero County Colorado reported Raymond Otero dropped the children off at their station and left. Both children are in good health and are being cared for until they can be picked up by representatives of DCF. Raymond Otero did not want to speak to law enforcement and his current location is unknown.

Levy County Sheriff’s Office is still working on this investigation. Detectives are seeking a warrant for Raymond Otero for interference of custody. Inglis Man Pays More Than His Bar Tab- Sentenced to Four Years for Battery on Law Enforcement Officer

On January 8, 2023 nearing midnight, Deputy Nelson Macias was on patrol in Inglis. He witnessed what he thought was a disturbance occurring in the parking lot of Our Pub as he drove past. He turned in to the business and saw two men yelling at each other. He approached the two men to inquire if everything was ok. Deputy Macias was immediately confronted by one of these men who began to curse at him, threatened to beat him up and kill his family. This man, whom Deputy Macias knew as Aaron M. Beam (11/20/79) of Inglis, took a fighting stance and approached closer to his patrol vehicle. Beam walked to the driver’s window, reached inside the patrol vehicle and then pointed his finger in Deputy Macias’s face and again threatened to beat him up.

The other party to the original parking lot argument, Leon Maclin (5/22/89) of Inglis, also aggressively approached Deputy Macias who was still seated in his car. Deputy Macias used his car door to push Beam away and got out. He told Beam he was under arrest and instructed him to place his hands behind his back. Beam then threw a punch at Deputy Macias that did not connect. Deputy Macias countered and used Beam’s momentum to pin Beam to the ground. Deputy Macias held Beam on the ground for the next 20+ minutes as he was unable to call for assistance. Deputy Macias’s radio was damaged during the physical altercation.

Patrons from inside the bar came out and surrounded Deputy Macias as he held Beam to the ground. Most offered no assistance as they were too busy videoing and making anti-police statements. One patron did not follow the masses and called 911 alerting Levy County Communications that Deputy Macias needed help. Additional law enforcement from both Levy County and Citrus County arrived to assist Deputy Macias and Beam was taken into custody on multiple charges. Leon Maclin was also arrested on scene.

Yesterday, April 19, 2023 Aaron Beam, who has been in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since his arrest, entered a change of plea in Circuit Court. Beam pled guilty to burglary of an occupied conveyance, resisting arrest with violence and two counts of battery of a law enforcement officer and was sentenced to four years (48 months) in the Florida Department of Corrections.

Leon Maclin’s case was closed after Maclin was found deceased in a camper trailer in Inglis on March 22, 2023 from an apparent overdose.

Inglis Man Arrested for Shooting Passing Vehicle – Hitting Passenger

Levy County Deputies responded to the intersection of SE 201 Street and SR 40 East to a reported shooting incident shortly after 8:00 p.m. last night. Deputies arrived to discover a man had been shot in the leg with what appeared to be a shotgun blast. The victim, a 47 year old male, was transported to a nearby emergency center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Multiple Deputies arrived to assist in locating the shooting suspect. The victim and witness told deputies two shots came from a nearby property they were passing. Upon hearing the first shot the driver of the vehicle stopped. The victim stepped from the vehicle as the driver was yelling at the shooter. This is when the second shot was fired, striking the victim in the leg. The victim and driver fled the area to safety and contacted law enforcement.

Deputies responded to the location where the shooter was last seen. Deputies did not locate the shooter at the home and found evidence this person was still nearby. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit, “Air 1”, responded to assist. Shortly after midnight Air 1 located a person hiding in the woods on the property. Levy County Deputies apprehended this person and took him into custody.

Deputies identified the shooter as David Andrew Ruttinger (2/23/60) of Inglis. Ruttinger told deputies he fired at the vehicle because it was driving in a reckless manner. He said reckless drivers are a constant issue near his home and he was attempting to shoot the tire. He panicked when he saw law enforcement responding and hid in the woods.

Ruttinger was arrested and taken to the Levy County Detention Center. He has been charged with multiple crimes to include aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm. He is being held on a $307,000.00 bond.

Sheriff McCallum expressed his appreciation for the assistance provided by Sheriff Billy Woods and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office personnel. He also encouraged citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights for only legitimate self-defense situations.

Retail Theft Complaint Leads to Concealed Firearm Arrest

On Saturday, April 15, 2023 Deputy M. Bianca responded to the Dollar General located at 110 N. Inglis Avenue in the Town of Inglis to a report of a retail theft. Branden J. Tyrrell (5/10/2000) of Dunnellon was identified by Dollar General employees as the person they witnessed stealing from the store.

Deputy Bianca located Tyrrell outside the store drinking a Seagram’s Spike in the parking lot. The investigation determined the alcoholic beverage had been stolen from the store and he was taken into custody. Tyrrell was wearing a fanny pack strapped across his chest and made the statement, “I just got out of prison.” to Deputy Bianca.

Deputy Bianca searched the fanny pack upon arresting Tyrrell and discovered a handgun hidden inside. Tyrrell, a two time convicted felon, was recently released from the Department of Corrections and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. The gun, a Glock 9mm was reported stolen from a home in Gainesville in 2022. Tyrrell was booked into the Levy County Detention Center and has been charged with retail theft, grand theft firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond has been set at $250,000.00.

Easter Sunday Homicide Investigation

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call Sunday, April 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. reporting a subject had been shot. Deputies responded to a duplex in the Town of Bronson and discovered James Young, Jr. (5/26/82) of Chiefland deceased on the floor inside. He suffered a single gunshot wound to his chest.

LCSO Detectives were dispatched to the scene and the investigation determined Young had a prior domestic relationship with the female occupant of the duplex. Young went there to confront her and was armed with a handgun when he arrived. Young and the female began to struggle. The female was able to retrieve her own firearm and fired once, striking Young in the chest. She fled the residence to a nearby neighbor’s home seeking assistance.

Detectives are still in the early stages of this investigation. No charges have been filed and this investigation is currently on-going. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Corporal C.J. Perryman at 352-486-5111 ext. 240.

On April 3, 2023 Jakarr T. White registered as a Sexual Predator with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. By Florida law White is required to notify law enforcement whenever he changes addresses.

Jakarr T. White was convicted in 2013 for Lewd and Lascivious Battery victim between 12-15 years old. White has registered his address as: 13510 SE 20 Street, Morriston, Florida 32668.

Chiefland Woman Arrested for Child Neglect

Levy County Deputies responded to a home located in the Manatee Farms Subdivision west of Chiefland. The complainant told the 911 operator a toddler, approximately 3 years old, wandered onto her property and the parent could not be found. The child was filthy, covered in bug bites and scratches, had a severe case of diaper rash and had ticks embedded in her scalp. Levy County EMS was dispatched to evaluate the child as deputies began searching for the child’s parent.

Deputies located a female asleep on the floor inside a tin shed on a neighboring property. Deputies identified the woman as Bryana Hall (1/10/2001) of Chiefland. Ms. Hall was taken to the location where the child was being evaluated. She told deputies she was the toddler’s care taker. The subsequent investigation determined that based on the child’s current physical and medical condition she required advanced care and was taken to a local hospital. Ms. Hall was placed under arrest for child neglect.

The Department of Children and Family Services has been contacted and took custody of the child. Ms. Hall was booked into the Levy County Detention Center where she is being held on a $100,000.00 bond.

Meth Fueled Morning Rant Results in Arrest

At 8:16 a.m. yesterday morning the Levy County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a panicked emergency call. The caller reported a male walking on the Greenway Trial in Fanning Springs acting erratically while waiving around a hatchet. The caller feared this person, who was walking in the direction of a business office and around occupied camper trailers, could potentially hurt someone.

Deputies arrived on scene and confronted the subject walking down the Greenway Trail. The deputy saw the man tuck the hatchet into his rear waist band in an attempt to hide it. The man, later identified as Rayford Delton Holder (8/30/86) of Lake City, took an aggressive stance, balled his fists and exclaimed, “I am a god!” Holder then turned and fled from deputies in the direction of an open convenience store.

Deputy Nelson Macias and Sergeant Tom Martin feared this armed individual could harm nearby patrons and gave chase. Deputy Macias was able to use his vehicle to cut Holder off which immediately drew a deadly reaction from him. Holder pulled the hatchet from his rear waistband and began running toward Deputy Macias’s patrol vehicle. Deputy Macias attempted to avoid Holder who bounced off the patrol vehicle and fled into an adjacent wooded lot.

Additional deputies and Chiefland Police Department (CPD) officers arrived to assist. CPD Chief Scott Anderson and Lt. Macy located and confronted Holder on a nearby road. Holder dropped the hatchet when ordered and surrendered. Holder exclaimed the methamphetamines found in his possession were for his ADHD. He also told deputies he was a superhuman angel and he didn’t want to hurt them, but he could if he wanted.

Holder was booked into the Levy County Detention Center and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest with violence and possession of meth. His bond has been set at $65,000.00.

Morriston Man Arrested for Lewd Conduct

On February 10, 2023 Detective Rob Bowers opened an investigation into complaints of lewd conduct by Joseph M. Davis (4/3/78) of Morriston. The complainant alleged Davis acted inappropriately by touching a 12 year old female, exposed his genitals to her and offering the child $3,000 to have sex with him. The investigation and victim testimony gathered with the assisted by Levy County Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocates, developed probable cause for his arrest. Detective Bowers interviewed the subject and a warrant was obtained. A bond of $200,000.00 was assigned to the warrant.

Detective Bowers along with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force located Davis in Marion County on 3/16/23 and he was taken into custody and booked into the Marion County Jail. Davis will be transferred to the Levy County Detention Center where he will be held on a $200,000.00 bond.

Chiefland Man Arrested for Trafficking in Fentanyl

On March 15, 2023 Levy County Drug Task Force Detectives arrested Todd G. Myers (6/29/68) of Chiefland for an outstanding warrant for his arrest for sale of methamphetamines. Detectives knew Myers was residing in a camper trailer at 8051 NW 60 Street and when they arrived saw Myers walking out. He was immediately taken into custody.

Detectives found two pill bottles in his pocket. One contained medication prescribed to him while the other contained 1.32 grams of fentanyl. A subsequent search of the camper trailer where he lived discovered another cache of 18.85 grams of fentanyl. Florida law describes trafficking of fentanyl as being in possession of more than four (4) grams and is a second degree felony that if convicted can result in a 25 year sentence. Fentanyl is the most dangerous street drug and is responsible for an untold number of overdose deaths. Mere exposure to your skin can cause an overdose resulting in death. Myers was also found in possession of 28.09 grams of marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia.

He was booked in at the Levy County Detention Center and charged with the outstanding warrant as well as the new charges. His bond has been set at $122,500.00.

Basil May Enters Guilty Plea to Sex Offense

Basil E. May (5/11/48) of Bronson was arrested September 29, 2021 by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division Detective Rob Bowers for sexual battery after a lengthy investigation. May has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since his arrest.

Yesterday May entered a guilty plea during a hearing and was sentenced to 96 months (8 years) in the Florida Department of Corrections. The plea alleviates a potentially long and complicated trial and relieves the victims of the burden of testifying in open court.

The fully comprehensive investigation conducted by Detective Bowers, the tireless work by the 8^th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office and Victim Services left May with little option other than to plead his guilt. Sheriff McCallum wishes to extend our continued thoughts and prayers to these victims. May is deemed a sexual offender and he will be required to register as such for the remainder of his life once released from prison.

Long Term Drug Investigation End in Two Arrests

On March 8, 2023 the Levy County Drug Task Force (DTF) and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) served a search warrant at 2570 NW 73^rd Terrace, located in Whitted Estates Subdivision south of Chiefland. DTF detectives began the investigation after receiving numerous citizen complaints and anonymous information identifying this home as a possible location being used to sell drugs. Detectives learned Jason D. Barber (6/28/95) was selling methamphetamine from the home. Detectives conducted a variety of covert operations over a period of time and developed probable cause for a search warrant of the home and a warrant for Barber’s arrest.

Detectives located and seized over 23 grams of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia during the search warrant. Barber was arrested at the scene and was charged with the additional crimes of possession of a trafficking amount of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia, and child neglect. His bond has been set at $415,000.00. Detectives also arrested Victoria Castellano (1/30/91) of Cedar Key who was located in the home when the warrant was served. She has been charged with possession of methamphetamines and her bond has been set at $15,000.00. Barber, Castellano and Castellano’s young child were the only occupants of the residence at the time the search warrant was served.

Citizen tips are essential in identifying locations such as the one Barber used to sell drugs. The Whitted Estates subdivision is usually a quiet area. Any community can quickly become a dangerous location to live when drug activity moves in. Drug sales in your neighborhood invite the criminal element which leads to an increase in theft, burglary and other crimes. Sheriff McCallum continues his pledge to combat drug activity in Levy County and urges everyone who sees suspicious activity to immediately report it. Detention Center Body Scanner Locates Contraband

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Kayla Hicks (4/13/93) of Wesley Chapel for driving under the influence on 2/28/23. Trooper Kevin Davis was suspicious the arrestee was in possession of additional contraband but did not find anything during his arrest procedures.

Hicks was immediately escorted by LCSO Detention Officers to the Tec-84 Body Scanner upon her delivery to the Levy County Detention Center. The scan was completed and a foreign object was identified concealed inside of her. Officers then completed a strip search and recovered a tube containing marijuana. The contraband was collected as evidence by Trooper Davis and additional charges were filed.

Hicks was originally arrested for DUI, but based upon the discovery of this contraband she was additionally charged with introduction of contraband into a detention facility and possession of marijuana. Hicks was held on a $72,500.00 bond and released after posting bond on 3/1/23.

The Tek-84 Body Scanner was purchased by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office approximately two years ago and is used by Detention staff on a daily basis. Any person arrested within Levy County’s jurisdiction is subject to an examination by this piece of equipment. This is not the first time foreign objects have been found concealed inside an arrested persons’ body by this tool. Since its’ implementation the Detention Center has seen a marked decrease in contraband, including illegal drugs, being smuggled into the general population of inmates held in the Detention Center. The use of this piece of equipment makes the Detention Center a safer place for those held in custody and the staff who work there.

Levy County Deputy Involved Shooting

Levy County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. today to a home located in the Williston Highlands Subdivision on NE 151 Terrace. They were responding to a report of a subject attempting suicide by overdose. Two LCSO deputies arrived on scene and were confronted by a man armed with a handgun. The deputies ordered the subject to drop his weapon but instead he rushed at the deputies. Both deputies discharged their weapons and the subject was struck by gunfire. The individual, a 37 year old white male succumbed to these injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Both deputies were uninjured during this altercation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has been requested to complete the investigation and the crime scene is currently still active. Both deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave per the Agency policy until this investigation is complete. No names will be released until the investigation has been completed by FDLE. There is no current threat to the community and Sheriff McCallum asks that we keep everyone involved in our prayers.

Two Men Sentenced for Sex Crimes

On June 3, 2022 Antonio R. Ramos (7/6/91) of Trenton was arrested for unlawful sexual activity with certain minors. He has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since his arrest. On February 9, 2023 Ramos entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to a six (6) year prison sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections.

On November 8, 2022 Imanuel A. Marrero (8/18/94) of Morriston was arrested for two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a person older than 12 but younger than 16 and the offender was older than 18. He has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since his arrest. On February 13, 2023 Marrero entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to a seven (7) year prison sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections.

The guilty pleas entered to the Courts by these men attests to the diligent hard work by the Detectives assigned to investigate these heinous crimes. These pleas also alleviate the victims of having to suffer the torturous rigors of a trial. The evidence collected by the Detectives during these investigations was overwhelming and left these men no option than to enter these pleas.

Sleeping Driver Arrested for Grand Theft and Meth Possession

On February 10, 2023 at 1:00 a.m. Sergeant Jeremy Dean saw a Green Hummer with two jet skis on a trailer parked at the intersection of Court Street and Masonic Street. The only lights illuminated were on the trailer that was blocking the intersection. The trailer did not have a tag attached on it. Sergeant Dean stopped to check on the driver to discover he, along with two passengers were all asleep.

Sergeant Dean woke everyone and spoke to them. Corporal Tucker Gaffey arrived to assist and their conversation with the driver took an unusual turn. The serial numbers for the jet skis and trailer were run through the FCIC database and the deputies were told they had been reported stolen to Marion County Sheriff’s Office on 2/9/23.

The investigation intensified as several stories began to emerge. All subjects in the vehicle gave a different account of the evening events. Ultimately Sergeant Dean placed the driver, identified as Michael Maynard (3/21/69) of Old Town, Florida, under arrest for grand theft. The investigation continued as 14 grams of methamphetamines were found in a cigarette pack belonging to Maynard. The front seat passenger, Paul Walls (10/5/56) of Morriston, Florida was also found in possession of methamphetamines. He too was arrested. The third passenger was released at the scene.

The vehicle owned by Maynard that was used to tow the jet skis was seized at the scene. The jet skis and its’ trailer were towed to the LCSO impound yard and have been returned to the owner in Marion County. Maynard is being held in the Levy County Detention Center having been charged with grand theft and trafficking in methamphetamines in lieu of a $131,000.00 bond. Walls is charged with possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. His bond has been set at $31,000.00.

On-line Scam Results in Arrest of Local Williston Man for Felony Battery

On February 6, 2023 Detectives responded to a local hospital after receiving a call that a female was admitted with multiple injuries related to an assault. Detectives interviewed the victim and learned the victim conversed and later met Williston resident Travis D. Dallas (3/11/74) through an on-line chat. Dallas was attempting to scam the victim during these chat sessions.

Dallas and the victim met at a location in Williston in mid-January. He refused to let her leave and physically battered the victim over a period of time. He used a knife to threaten her and struck her with a cinder block in his attempts to obtain more money from her. As a result of these injuries the victim has been hospitalized and undergone surgery.

Dallas was located and arrested for three separate warrants obtained during this investigation on February 10, 2023. He has been charged with felony battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and felony battery-repeat offender. He is being held in the Levy County Detention Center in lieu of a $200,000.00 bond.

Drug Dealer Sentenced

On October 22, 2022 the Levy County Drug Task Force (DTF) arrested Debrisha Denise-Marianna Littles (4/17/89) of Williston for a myriad of drug related sales offenses. DTF received citizen complaints through Crime Stoppers that Littles was selling molly, ice, pill and marijuana from a home in the City of Williston. Detectives were able to use these tips to build a case and obtain a search warrant for the home where they recovered narcotics. Since this arrest Littles has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

On February 2, 2023 Littles appeared before a Circuit Court Judge in Levy County and entered a guilty plea. Littles was sentenced to a five (5) year prison sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections and has been fined $3,065.00.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) received a flyer from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in the theft of a dump trailer stolen from Homosassa, Fl. LCSO Detectives recognized the truck pictured in the flyer as a vehicle they had encountered many times in the Bronson area. Detectives knew this truck was frequently seen at a home located next to local daycare and began conducting surveillance.

Surveillance teams identified a trailer matching the description of the trailer stolen from Citrus County on the property located at 945 East Hathaway Avenue. Detectives also discovered Michael G. Hernandez (2/5/81) a sexual predator was living at this location which confirmed several citizen complaints the Agency recently received. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the address and executed the warrant late yesterday afternoon.

Detectives and Crime Scene personnel encountered Hernandez leaving the property in a vehicle as the search warrant began. Hernandez was immediately taken into custody. Hernandez had a four year old child in the vehicle with him and Detectives discovered over 8 ½ ounces of marijuana in the seat next to the child. He dropped methamphetamines on the ground and attempted to grind them into the dirt as Detectives were handcuffing him.

Alexandra Gomara (4/7/95) was located on the property and identified as Hernandez’s girlfriend. She was found in possession of narcotics and taken into custody. Kristie Collins (11/22/73) was also located on the property and detained. Detectives discovered she was wanted for failure to appear in court for a pending drug case.

LCSO Detectives filed for and were granted an amendment to the search warrant and discovered a cache of guns and a large quantity of narcotics. In all fourteen (14) guns were seized along with approximately 90 pounds of marijuana, fentanyl and methamphetamines. Several guns were loaded and within reach of the child who was living at this home with Hernandez and Gomara.

The dump trailer located on the property was confirmed as the trailer stolen from Citrus County. Other stolen items were recovered from the property during the search. Detectives are continuing this investigation and ask that anyone who has information related to this or other cases contact the Levy County Sheriff’s Office at 352-486-5111. Michael Hernandez has been charged with a violation of sexual predator registration requirements, child neglect, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamines, evidence tampering and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond has been set at $266,000.00. Alexandra Gomara has been charged with child neglect and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. Her bond has been set at $155,000.00. Kristie Collins is being held on a $300 bond for the warrant for failure to appear.

Two Arrests Made in Williston Shooting Incidents

On 09/24/2022 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the area of the old Williston Middle School. The investigation determined individuals exited their vehicles and shot at each other. One suspect fled the scene. Deputies spoke to the other individual who remained on scene, who alleged he acted in self-defense. This person could not identify the other involved individuals.

On 10/12/2022 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of NE 212^th court and NE 37^th place in Williston. Upon law enforcement arrival they discovered a 21 year old male shot in the back with a .223 rifle. The investigation discovered that a group of men in a passenger car exchanged gun fire with someone who lived in the area. The 21 year old male was uncooperative with investigators. Detectives believe he was involved in the initial altercation that occurred on 9/24/22.

Detectives learned both shooting incidents stemmed from a gambling debt. Detectives identified individuals involved in this feud were Larron Ross (9/17/2000) and Jacques Days (10/2/92). Both are residents of Williston.

On 12/03/2022 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at the Toad Stool Bar located at 21080 NE 35^th Street east of Williston. This investigation determined Jacques Days and Larron Ross exchanged gun fire in the parking lot of the bar. All parties involved fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival. Detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants for Days and Ross; charging them both with discharging a firearm from a vehicle and discharging a firearm in a public place.

On 12/07/2022 Jacques Days was arrested in the parking lot of the Levy County Court House on the charges listed above. He was booked into the Levy County Detention Center and his bond was set at $85,000. He is currently in custody.

On 02/01/2023 the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office located Ross at an address in the City of Gainesville. Ross was arrested and later transferred to the Levy County Detention Center on 2/2/23 where he posted an $85,000.00 bond and has since been released.

Although these two arrests have been made this investigation is still on-going. Detectives know other individuals are involved in these shooting incidents as well as other criminal activity in the Williston community. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in solving these crimes. Notable Cases Resolved with Guilty Pleas

Two arrests made by Levy County Detectives in 2022 came to resolution recently in Circuit Court as both defendants plead guilty.

On 3/14/22 Cole Langston (7/26/2000) of Williston was arrested in Gainesville after a warrant for his arrest was issued for his participation in a shooting incident that occurred in Williston on 3/11/22. Langston has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since this arrest. On 1/18/23 Langston entered a guilty plea to the lesser included offense of shooting into a dwelling and was sentenced to a ten (10) sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections which will be followed by two years community control and three years probation.

On 3/2/22 Jon B. Flores (9/15/85) of Trenton was arrested for possession and production of child pornography. He has been held in custody at the Levy County Detention Center since his arrest. On 12/14/22 Flores entered a guilty plea for possession and production of child pornography and was sentenced to two (2) years in the Florida Department of Corrections.

AN INCONVENIENT GRAND THEFT AUTO

On January 27, 2023, the LCSO Communications Division received a report of a stolen vehicle from the convenience store located at 8051 NW 115^th Street in Chiefland. The victim reported that their 2013 Nissan vehicle had just been stolen after the victim went inside the convenience store. The victim had followed the stolen car in another vehicle but lost the thief north of Chiefland.

LCSO Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene where they collected video evidence and witness statements. According to witnesses, the car thief had been hanging around the store for a while and was captured on store surveillance video.

LCSO Detention Center personnel were able to use the video to identify the suspect as Michael Hannigan (1-6-83). Hannigan had been booked into the Levy County Detention Center six previous times. Hannigan was most recently released from the Detention Center on January 4, 2023.

A short time later, a concerned citizen reported to LCSO that Hannigan had been seen at another convenience store located at SR 345 and NW 60^th Street. Deputies John Finkell and Matt King located and detained Hannigan at the store. Hannigan admitted being at the crime scene but denied stealing the vehicle.

A short time later, Deputy Bill Godwin located the abandoned stolen vehicle approximately 1.5 miles from where Hannigan was taken into custody. The stolen vehicle was processed by LCSO crime scene personnel. Several items of personal property had been stolen from the vehicle but were not recovered.

Hannigan was arrested and booked into the Detention Center (for the seventh time) on charges of Grand Theft Auto and Petit Theft. He remains in custody with his bond set at $27,500.00.

Sheriff McCallum expressed his appreciation to the witnesses who assisted in the quick resolution of this case. He encouraged everyone to take the extra seconds necessary to secure your vehicles and belongings even when you leave them unattended for only a short time.

Car Burglar Arrested

An alert citizen contacted Deputy TJ Miller on January 13, 2023 and reported a suspicious person seen in the parking lot of the Captain’s Quarters Motel in Inglis. The citizen told Deputy Miller the suspicious person was a female and was last seen leaving the parking lot driving a red SUV. That citizen also gave Deputy Miller the tag number on the SUV. He located the SUV in the parking lot of the nearby Circle K.

Deputy Miller identified the owner of the vehicle by confirming the tag number he saw attached to the SUV. He then went inside the store and located the owner, Sarah Buck (9/30/80) of Inglis. No crime had been report as of that moment.

As Deputy Miller was speaking to Ms. Buck the citizen who initially called in the tip came into the store. This citizen discovered items missing from her vehicle that had been parked in the Captain’s Quarters parking lot. A brief verbal exchange occurred between the citizen and Ms. Buck who made an incriminating statement. Ms. Buck was immediately detained by Deputy Miller.

Deputy Miller conducted his investigation and discovered Ms. Buck illegally entered five vehicles parked in the Captain’s Quarters parking lot and stole property from each vehicle. Deputy Miller was able to identify each victim and recovered their stolen property. Ms. Buck was arrested and charged with five counts of conveyance burglary and five counts of theft. She is currently being held in the Levy County Detention Center in lieu of a $150,000.00 bond.
