Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamp

Have you ever heard about or seen one of these beautiful Himalayan Salt Crystal lamps?

We purchased one about two weeks ago and would recommend one to anybody.

Not only is the soft orange/peach glow so relaxing, there are actually health benefits to using one.

These lamps are made from pollutant free salt crystals that were formed at the base of the Himalaya Mountains hundreds of millions of years ago.

The light bulb inside the lamp warms the crystals which causes negative ions to be released naturally into the air.

Pollution, smoke, allergens, and viruses are all positive ions, so the negative ions from this lamp help to neutralize them for more refreshing, healthful, and clean air.

I find that it even helps to reduce the “static” in the air which is so abundant during this time of the year.

Since this is a pure salt crystal - water is it’s enemy, and during very humid weather it will become damp and it may even crystallize. Just turning it on and letting it warm up will take care of this problem.

We will have to keep an eye on it this summer.

Cooper’s Hawks and Hummingbirds Coexisting

We watched a Nature show on PBS this past week that featured all different kinds of Hummingbirds.

I love these little birds and this show had so many interesting facts and the photos and footage are just something.

One thing I found most fascinating is that the tiny little Black Chinned Hummingbird builds it’s nest in the same tree as the Cooper’s Hawk, a bird of prey.

In fact, there is not just one hummingbird nest in the tree, but dozens of them clustered around the hawk’s nest.

And they all live in peace and harmony as they hatch and raise their young.

And the reason for this: the hawks prey on all the little animals and critters that prey on the hummingbirds.

These little hummingbirds know they are safe around the hawks.

They are way too small for the hawk to bother with, so they leave them alone.

Nature is so amazing!

I Would Never Have Thought

My boys love playing video games on the TV and computer.

I have tried it a few times, and I really must say I was bored to pieces and could see no point to it.

I did accomplish quite a few races in the Gran Turismo ones a few years back, but that was all it ever amounted to for me.

Not a big fan of video games is what I thought.

Well, I would have never guessed it, but I have become quite addicted to a computer game on facebook.

It is the Enchanted Gardens game where you build gardens with different backgrounds.

It is not a real “thinking” kind of game, and you spend time visiting other players gardens to rack up “cash” to spend in the “store” to buy your plants and decorations.

You find treasures along the way, and when you gain many neighbors, you can move up the levels quicker as your precious “acorns” add up.

Some players have a real knack for creating beautiful “gardens”.

And of course many of the plants and decorations come and go quickly in the store, so you really need to “earn cash” to get them before they disappear.

I have become a sucker for a computer game, but not a sucker enough to actually pay out cash to use it.

Playing it for free is the only way to go, but man, it sure is a big time sucker and a lot of fun!

A Few Good Thoughts

I would like to share a portion of an email that I received earlier this week.

It had some really good points, and I couldn’t let it pass without some mention.

A few things to work on each day:

Personality:
Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

Don’t over do. Keep your limits.

Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.

Dream more while you are awake

Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with His/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.

Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.

Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.

No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

Smile and laugh more.

You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree…

Shark Week Video from Discovery Channel

One of the best Christmas gifts we received this past season was a video made by the Discovery Channel.

It is titled: SHARK WEEK Ocean of Fear

Since we do not get cable TV, we miss many of these types of specials.

My husband has always been intrigued by anything that has to do with sharks, so this was the perfect gift.

I have learned so much from this series - the stories and personal experiences from shark encounters keep you glued to the screen.

The photography and filming is something else - I will never understand the desire to be in the water to photo these predators, but I do appreciate the work others have done.

These creatures are fascinating, and if you ever get a chance to view any part of this series, it is worth the time.

Mother Nature is just amazing!

Fantasy Fudge

I had made a post on one of my other blogs and I used a photo of chocolate fudge I had taken a while back.

One of my reader’s, Anna, over at My Only Photo, requested the recipe.

I have been busily making quite a few batches of this fudge and peanut butter fudge too.

Before I file away the cards for another year, I will post the recipe for the chocolate one here.

It is called Fanatasy Fudge, and my aunt gave me the directions for it when I was 13 years old.

Not a Christmas has gone by since then that I have not made this fudge.

This smooth, creamy treat is most delicious - I think it is the old fashioned way of making it that makes it so good.

You will need:

3 cups of sugar

3/4 cup of butter (not margarine)

2/3 cup evaporated milk

1 12oz package of semi sweet chocolate chips

1 7 oz jar of marshmallow fluff

1 cup of chopped walnuts

1 teaspoon of real vanilla

Combine the sugar, butter, and milk in a saucepan and bring to a rolling boil over a medium-high heat. Stir constantly as this mixture scorches easily. Boil for 5 minutes or til a candy thermometer reads 238 degrees. Remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate chips until they are melted. Add the marshmallow and stir until thoroughly mixed. Add nuts and vanilla. Pour into a 9×13 inch buttered pan. Cool and cut. Store in the refrigerator. Makes 3 pounds of candy.

I have never had this candy not set or mess up in any way. I would say it is a never fail recipe.
