So is this still the story these days, after all the tragedies in Japan? Rock up, speak English and done? I'm thinking of finishing my course mid next year (In Australia) and am considering going there, so would any of the programs still be worth doing? I keep hearing horror stories... not so many good stories... and one stories sounded incredibly depressing... Then there's the fear of getting sent to a place that's radio active..

To the fellow who wrote ALT you are totally correct. I as a licensed certified professional teacher made a big mistake comig here to Japan to teach English. I have no future here. I would have been better off if I stayed in Taiwan or South Korea, and now my goal is to get the hell out of Japan and move to South Korea. I did make a mistake signing this contract to teach here in Japan, but I learned from it. And my goal is to do all I can to get out of Japan by saving as much money as I can. Because honestly I am being ripped off living and working here.
If I go back to South Korea, I will be better off. I know because I worked there for 3 years for the public school system. They are always hiring overthere because most native English teachers there don`t like Korea anyway. They all want to go to Japan, everybody wants to go to Japan. Why? Most people don`t even know the dark truth about Japan`s English education industry, it is going downhill along with the economy of Japan also going down to the bowels. Why should I bother to live and work in a country that makes me have to pay my own rent and airfare? Why should I have to live in a country where if I want to find a new apartment I will have an 80% rejection for rental housing, because of the Jim Crow practices in rental housing? It makes no sense being here in Japan anymore.
I was trying to apply to teach in South Korea, but the problem is I do not have my Canadian criminal record check because when I came to Japan, my dispatch employer did not require one from me, they told me that is no requirement here in Japan. But for going to Korea they need one from me, so I have to order one and that will take a long time.
Now I am spreading the word to everyone on my emails and on Facebook. The message is do not come to Japan. There is no future for a foreigner who will be discriminated against, and ostracised by local Japanese people, and no future for a native English teacher who has no pension.

Warning letters does not surprise me. Nothing does as far as Berlitz goes. Now that the trolls have been wiped out lets try to keep things to topic. Hopefully this time it has learned it's lesson. I do hope this post does not set it off again. It probably will. Just watch and see.

Will it be hard,if not impossible, for someone like me to obtain a teaching job in Japan?I mean,will they just laugh at me and tell me to get out?I legitimately want to teach,for as long as I can remember,and I've always had an interest in Japan.I want to go,I'm working on my bachelor's right now,and I'd hate to discover it was all for naught.I just want to go so that my daughter can get a decent education(the teachers here simply don't give two-shits about anyone but their-selves) and to experience the rich culture they have.After reading into all the posts,I've become somewhat depressed,I feel as though I've simply made a fool of myself thinking that someone like me would even be considered for teaching Japanese students.

I feel like a jackass...........

We went to the HQ in Harajuku for the orientation. The people giving the spiel were dipshits. There was a blonde woman, Canadian I think. Had the brilliant notion of speaking naturally to all students. Pity those poor pricks who needed a bit of help and support. Her lipstick kept getting on her teeth. She was aware of this and kept moving her mouth accordingly. Then there was this really tall dude. Bit of a dick, obviously an ABSOLUTE NOBODY who though he had made it in the managerial world. (We all know what happened now, don't we. he…he….he…). There was also perhaps a Japanese/American dude. He tried to be the big man by telling us not to get in trouble with the cops. Seemed like one of thos "don't worry boss, I'll keep the monkeys in line" types. They mentioned availability for overtime quite a few times, like they had been primed to do so. At that time, overtime was in huge demand. Even though I was such a newbie, I could smell the fakeness through their suited asses. Cardboard cutout people for a house of cards joke company.

At my "school" there was a feel goody poster featuring some of the fore mentioned morons on it, sitting around a big table with broad, fake grins. I remember telling the staff that I wanted to keep the poster when it came down. Why? "Evidence" I said half -jokingly. How fucking prophetic. I wish I would have gotten it, as it would have been good sport for everyone to play 'spot the loser' when taro the guppy started doing backstroke.

I was at Harajuku a few years later. Looked forward to walking past the office and letting fly a big golly onto the NOVA sign. Patooiiiee!! Or at the very least empty my nostrils over it. But alas, the office was gone. At least I found some satisfaction spitting on a NOVA flag some time later. You know, the big ones that used to be outside on the sidewalk. Was I being immature? Hell yeah!! But hey, after having done my time as a battery hen for the mad ape Saruhashi, I felt as if I had EARNED THE RIGHT.

How the FUCK anyone in their right mind could have taken that criminal pyramid scam seriously is still beyond me.

There are real language teachers….

There are real teachers….

There are real teachers who fake it as language teachers….

And then, last of all, on the bottom of the dung heap, there are people who are not real teachers and are also not real language teachers, who get very confused about the difference between the two, and fake it as both….

They are otherwise known as “Eikaiwa Instructors”.

You will find lots of them in Japan, working in places like Nova or ECC or Interac.

Bottom line. Eikaiwa is run by crooks, and it employs monkey dancing idiots.

Nothing is right in Japan. This country has made itself into a rip-off country in which the government is ripping us off in high taxes and at the saem time Japan cannot control its mounting debt twice the size of the economy. This is no wonder why China has risen up to have the biggest economy in Asia, and Japan is at number 3. The worst part of it is that Japanese refuse to accept third place. That is because Japanese are too arogant and too complacent to see their faults in the mirror.
Because of the fact that Japanese have proven themselves to be this arrogant, it seems to me as if Japan really does not need English teachers. Japanese are the most lousiest learners of English in Asia. The Chinese, Koreans, and Thais can kick Japnese asses with basic English skills to a point that they can even emmigrate to the USA or Canada. Japanese Can`t do that. And as long as the Japanese economy is failing, if Japanese continue to be lousy at English (though not all will be able to learn it), Japanese will soon find themselves in a situation that most of them will remain underemployed in their own country in the future because they don`t have second language skills, and Japan`s economy has failed. The Japanese economy will fail as long as Japanese remain being the way they are.

Yes it is about time. Hopefully the board will now return to normalcy. There is a balanced view out there somewhere and it is important to support it. Why anyone would suggest that Eikaiwa is anything other than a complete joke is beyond any of us. It's a monkey dance. Instructors are just performing apes who get paid peanuts to do their dance on a stage that is by and large constructed from racist undertones and racial pigeon holing. Eikaiwa needs to be obliterated.
