I like the fact that girls (or boys, for that matter) don't have to fit a certain stereotype. I'm reading sportswriter Christine Brennan's memoir right now, and it's so hard to imagine what it must have been like for a sports-loving girl in the 1960s and 1970s. She played sports before Title IX and had few opportunities for organized athletics. She says she was too busy playing catch with her dad to learn kitchen skills, like browning meat. I love the fact that today nearly every little girl has a little bit of the tomboy and sophisticate in her.

Of course, I realize I'm making a sweeping statement. My daughter is rough and tumble (she's already broken and lost a tooth) and yet she loves books. And computers and dancing. I'm just trying to be open to whatever she's interested in and if it's hockey and she looses the other front tooth, so be it!

It's odd, however, how some of the biggest tomboys I know also have the best eye for culture. My college roommate isn't really one for glamming up and wouldn't probably like it if you called her sophisticated, yet she's the one I turn to for an escort at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. She's got an eye for art that also plays a wicked game of Frisbee.

I agree. Though I still need to get caught up on season two. I'm waiting for the DVD to be released.

I am looking forward to the winter Olympics. They always come at the perfect time. I'm just getting bored with the hockey routine (by then we'll know if the Gophers and Wild are contenders) and looking for something a little more consistent. Boom here they are in mid-Feburary - skiing, skating and a lot of ice.

What really gets me is the fact that they sat in front of TV cameras while their 6-year-old child vomited and didn't think that this might be a good time to cut the interview short and put this poor boy back in bed. I mean why should they miss out on their time in the spotlight just because their child is vomiting? It was amazing to me that the mother had to be told by the interviewer that she might want to leave the interview to accompany her child to the bathroom since she could hear him yacking via satallite. It's like nothing could tear these parents away from the media attention they so desperately wanted. It really makes you wonder why we're still talking about it at all.

Screamtown is really over

Screamtown is really over hyped. I was there the 08 season and it lacked in everything. Scare factor, actors, mazes. We drove 2 hours to go here and what a waste. When we went through the woods, they were professionals taking pictures of the actors, so they weren't even there to scare us, if they could. That was ridicilous when we paid to go through this attraction and they were doing a photo shoot, Come on.. Yes, it was cheap, but no wonder why!! I wouldn't recommend anybody to screamtown. Save your money and time. Unless the do some major over haul to the whole place.

"House" premiered last night with a 2 hour episode that was very, very well done. It took place in a mental institution and reminded me a little of "One Flew Over the CooCoo's Nest". It was good enough to make me look forward to Mondays.

I definitely won't be tuning in for this. That's what cable is for. Yes, it might be sad but I believe I'd have better luck numbing my brain at the 9 o'clock hour watching shows on Bravo, Lifetime, TLC, HGTV and ESPN. I'm just tired of hearing celebrity jokes. Perhaps I've fallen into the "reality" trap but I'd rather watch "Top Chef" or "House Hunters."

The networks really don't have any interesting shows. This fall's lineup looks like a resurrection of "ER" with all the hospital shows. Whatever happened to "Chuck"?
