Thanks once again to LEGO, we can see Darth Vader - in chrome! These rare and uniqueminifigures were randomly inserted into all LEGO Star Wars 2009 boxes (including the battle packs) in accordance to the LEGO Star Wars' 10th anniversary. This type of promotion was also seen in 2007 with LEGO GOLD C-3POs. This promotion is limited though, as LEGO only produced 10,000 of these hard to find minifigures.

eBay & Bricklink
The simplest and most sure-fire way of getting a Chrome Darth Vader is to buy it from either eBay or Bricklink. Either way, it will cost you a fair amount of money getting a Chrome Darth Vader this way as many LEGO sellers are striving to make a handsome profit off of people who just can't wait or find it on their own.

Sweepstakes

Entering in online free giveaways and sweepstakes is not the most effective nor easiest option when trying to get a Chrome Darth Vader. However these sweepstakes/giveaways are mostly free, and if you win, the rewards are high. These sweepstakes/giveaways are hard to catch, as most are just meant to attract more readers and viewers and are only open for a very short time.

FBTB.net was offering a free Chrome Darth Vader, though the giveaway was only open from February 23, 2009 to February 28, 2009 - 5 short days.

Weighing Boxes
Weighing boxes is by far the most effective and sometimes the cheapest way of finding a Chrome Darth Vader. Since Chrome Darth Vaders were inserted in the 2009 battle packs, the weight difference is quite noticeable when you find the box with it inside. This method works outstandingly well, and is the way that one of our staff aquired two Chrome Darth Vaders from their local Toys R Us.

Conclusion

LEGO has done a great job in creating a large demand for their Chrome Darth Vader, but quite frankly I am disappointed in their lack of advertising and public notification. LEGO should have learned from two years ago from the Gold C-3POs that NOT telling your customers when you have a promotion is just plain stupid. Overall, it is possible to get a Chrome Darth Vader for free, or for almost no price, as there are quite a few viable methods to achieve just that. Getting a Chrome Darth Vader is not that hard and requires luck, but if you follow my suggestions above you should have one in no time.

Are Chrome Darth Vaders in Battle Packs?
The Real Story

According to LEGO and their representatives, it seems that Chrome Darth Vaders are in 2009 Battle Packs (Assassin Droids Battle Pack; Clone Walker Battle Pack). And some people, on FBTB and on other internet sites are reporting numbers of Chrome Darth Vaders being found in these very sets.

A LEGO representative that I have contacted has told me that so far, Chrome Darth Vaders will be in 2009 LEGO Battle Packs and all of the January sets that were released.

As you can see, the sets that Chrome Darth Vaders might be in are in all of the January 2009 & July 2009 sets released by LEGO, and do include the Battle Packs.

So far, the Chrome Darth Vader version of Darth Vader is only slightly different from its other 2009 Darth Vader counterparts (excluding the chrome finish). The only noticeable differences are a shorter and thinner chin line detail, and added eyebrows. The lightsaber hilt that I received though seemed to be from a slightly different batch, and turned out a tad bit darker than the one from Darth Vader's Tie.

The Value of a Chrome Darth Vader

Monetary (On eBay & other sites)

The value of a Chrome Darth Vader is approximately $100 as seen on eBay and roughly $80 as seen on BrickLink. If you are looking to sell a Chrome Darth Vader, chances are that you will not make too much profit now, or in a few months because of the fact that the Chrome Darth Vaders are not worth as much to people as the Gold C-3PO was. The best option for resellers is to wait until next year when LEGO starts to release new sets, and when the demand for it increases.

Display (subjective)

I personally would view the Chrome Darth Vader as a real gem in anyone's LEGO Star Wars collection, both because of the monetary value and because of the display value. In many ways, the Chrome Darth Vader's display value exceeds all of its LEGO Darth Vader predecessors, because of its twist in color and appearance. Its shiny chrome finish is what makes it stand out, though many people do remark that the regular Chrome Darth Vader's torso decals are much more precise, a minor let down for collectors looking for a perfect centerpiece. Overall, a Chrome Darth Vader leading your LEGO 501st legion is what every LEGO Star Wars fan dreams of, and will brighten your collection even further.

In this review, Lego Star Wars Club brings you LEGO's first "Expanded Universe" ship - the 7672 Rogue Shadow. This set, pulled right from the Star Wars expanded universe and the new video game, "The Force Unleashed", is a combination of a radical new Star Wars era and the fifth best toy in the world, LEGO! The set itself contains the unorthodox Rogue Shadow and three extremly rare minifigures that have never been seen in LEGO before: battle damaged Darth Vader, Juno Eclipse, and the powerful Galen Marek, also known as Starkiller and Vader's apprentice. This is a rare set for LEGO, because it is the only LEGO set completely from the expanded universe.

Overview

With an odd shape and size and devastating power, the LEGO Rogue Shadow is one of a kind in your collection of Star Wars LEGOs! It includes 482 pieces for only $49.99! It has three rare minifigures, including a new battle-damaged Darth Vader and the all-new Starkiller! To some, the Rogue Shadow may look like a hybrid of a TIE-advanced starfighter, a Y-wing starfighter, and a TIE-fighter. Then again, the Rogue Shadow is an Imperial test starfighter with an experimental cloaking device - a device that allows a ship to disappear from sight and from sensors. With the Rogue Shadow, you can hunt down Jedi like never before!

Building Experience

The LEGO Rogue Shadow is a fairly easy build if you have build one or two sets in the the past. The ship itself uses an intuitive build method that allows the odd, unorthodox wings to attach to the main body. It also uses some bricks not commonly found in most Star Wars sets. Most Star Wars ships are relatively symmetrical. This is the complete opposite with the Rogue Shadow. It has an odd body shape that seems wrong when you build it, but really is right. It sometimes can throw the builder off. The best part about building this set is seeing where are the secret weaponry and features go. This ship is loaded with surprises. After all, it is a prototype ship in the Imperial navy. There are hidden missiles, flick-fire missiles, and much more hidden within the ship. As good as it seems, there are problems associated with the general design of the 7672 Rogue Shadow. On my opinion, the color scheme is relatively bland, with black as the prominent color. Then again, this is supposed to be a stealthy ship. Also, there isn't sufficient room to house both Starkiller and Juno Eclipse within the ship, and side panels fall off easily. As usual, the flick-fire missiles don't always stay where you want them to. If you have read, learned, or played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, you know about a third creature involved with Starkiller and Juno. They have a droid, or rather Darth Vader does, called PROXY. This droid plays a large roll in Starkiller's story.

Play Features

This set is a set that tries to please both collectors and kids. The playability of this set is very high because of all the things you can do with it. There are many weapons, from rockets to blasters, to take on the rest of your LEGO collection! For one, there is a special lever that activates a hidden missile. Also, there are flick-fire missiles mounted on the ship. The only problem with these, as mentioned before, is that they fall out all too often, and are annoying to put back. A nice part about the ship is that the side 'wings' fold up for landing. The wings also attract the attention of onlookers because of their odd shape, as we will talk about in Display. There are also smaller features like how the roof opens up that really add to the playability of this set. The overall playability of this set is a moderate 6, because it might not be the best 'swoosh' set for kids under seven.

Minifigures

Despite the low amount of minifigs included with this set (3), they are all very rare and have not been produced by LEGO ever before and therefore compensate for the statistically low amount. The torso design is characteristically true to the original characters from the Star Wars expanded universe. Minifigure collectors and most other collectors will really want this set because of this, and later these minifigures can amount to a large sum of money. The battle-damaged Darth Vader is also a nice addition to anyone's set, though I still prefer the normal Darth Vader over the battle-damaged one. The minifigures really add to the overall value of this set and also adds some much needed playability.

Pieces

If you are buying for rare pieces, this is not the set for you. If you are looking for an odd way to put common pieces together, look no further. This ship is just about the oddest creation LEGO has ever made in their Star Wars line. Its asymmetrical design and irregular wings make it a great set if you are going for a true rarity. The amount of black pieces also makes for a nice scrap set that can be added on to a variety of LEGO Star Wars and other LEGO sets. The Rogue Shadow includes some cannon fire type missiles, which have been discontinued in 2009 LEGO Star Wars sets and also in most other sets. These missiles are somewhat rare and are a great addition as a hidden gun on a ship or just a large turbo-laser cannon on a base. It features, many weapons including flick-fire missiles which also are easy to implement on various structures and vehicles.

Collectibility

Since this set is from the expanded universe, it is moderately collectable, though it is not as largely known of a ship as an X-Wing or a Y-Wing which were widely made popular from many popular scenes in Star Wars such as the Trench Run. The Rogue Shadow is made even more collectable because of its high display value as a ship and because of the addition of the battle-damaged Darth Vader, Juno Eclipse, and Darth Vader's Apprentice. In the end, this set does not have many collectable features besides its never-seen-before minifigures and odd design, and collectors should think twice before buying this set to add to their collection.

Display

The Rogue Shadow as mentioned before in the Collectibility section has a moderately-high display value because of its sleek black design and its irregular and odd shape. As with most other LEGO Star Wars sets, the Rogue Shadow cannot be as good when on display without the minifigures than if it has the minifigures. Also as with most other LEGO Star Wars ships, the Rogue Shadow lacks a display stand or placard, though these can be easily put together with scrap parts and with a simple print-out pasted on a upright baseplate. The Rogue Shadow is mainly black which is a great attractor to dust, so when you are thinking about putting this set on display, be sure to buy or create a display case to shield it from the dust.

Resale

Right now, you wouldn't be able to resell the 7672 Rogue Shadow for much. But, as normal, If you wait for production to stop or for the minifigs to become even rarer than they are, then you can get a decent profit. Because of the minifigures, this set will be worth at least $80 US dollars in a year. In two years, the minifigures alone could sell for a minimum of $20 to a nice sum of $100! Although these numbers seem nice, the truth is that this set will not make you as much money as other LEGO sets that you could buy for the same price. Besides the minifigures, this set has little to nothing else to offer as a profit generator, and because of this your money could be better spent on other LEGO Star Wars sets.

Concluding Remarks

As you can see, the Rogue Shadow is unlike any other LEGO Star Wars sets that LEGO has produced. Because of this, we can safely conclude that the Rogue Shadow will be a great gift for most children and display collections. This set might even be a great gift for yourself, and just think, LEGO may never produce another version of the Rogue Shadow or another version of a battle-damaged Darth Vader again!

In this review, Lego Star Wars Club will give you a great look at one of the most playable sets of 2008-2009: the Assassin Droids Battle Pack. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack was first released in December 2008 in the U.S and January 2009 to the rest of the world. This set, along with Clone Walker Battle Pack, were part of the second wave of Clone Wars products inspired by the animated series on Cartoon Network and the movie: Star Wars - The Clone Wars which premiered in early 2008. This set has been rated 4.8 by us and can be bought for the price of $9.99 via LEGO® and $12.99 in non mainland stores (Hawaii, Alaska). It comes with three Assassin Droids 2 Elite Assassin Droid (referred to as Assassin Droid Commanders), and a sleek flick-firing-missile speeder bike. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack combines both playability with an overall cheap price.

Overview

The elegant flick-firing-missile speeder bike and the fearsome battle droids make a great combination. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack includes 94 pieces for under just $10 (shipping not included), a cheap sum considering the other LEGO Star Wars™ sets currently on the market. The custom LEGO Assassin Droids design, an array of firing weapons, and speeder bike make this set one of the best LEGO sets for kids of all ages. Some of the more detailed specifics of the Assassin Droids Battle Pack are new black Star Wars Droid arms, a new black droid torso, legs for the Elite Assassin droids, and flick-firing missiles for the speeder bike. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack is an awesome addition to anyone's Confederate and Assassin Army!

Building Experience

The 8015 Assassin Droids Battle Pack utilizes an innovative building process for the speeder. The triangular side pieces are mounted with the traditional axle-into-a-brick method. The flick-fire missiles are mounted on the same axle that the triangular bricks are mounted on, which saves space, bricks, and most importantly, money. The speeder only fits two Assassin Droids, which to some can be considered a con. Overall, this set is very easy to build and very satisfying for your kids - though not for an adult builder when finished.

Play Features

• Rare Assassin Droid minifigures

• Flick-firing missiles

• Easy-to-play-with Assassin Droid Speeder

The best play feature is both the minifigures and the speeder itself, because it is very easy to push around for and play with. The Assassin Droids are also somewhat posable and fit can very well into your collection or diorama. The flick fire missiles are very easy to use, and unlike some other sets have a nice open area to put you finger to flick. The flick-firing missiles are also very easy to aim because the speeder bike isn't a standing up and is very stable.

Parts

The best part of the Assassin Droids Battle Pack are the new black Assassin Droid parts and the flexible triangular side pieces, which are extremely rare in LEGO. Although other sets come with the some droid parts, this set includes more minifigures per dollar than most LEGO sets and also includes hard-to-find-in-bulk 2008-2009 blaster rifles and blaster pistols. Besides the minifigure parts and accessories, it also comes with the traditional speeder front piece, which is the only other semi-rare part included in the set. The Assassin Droids battle pack also includes flick-firing missiles, which are also semi-rare and can replace many lost missiles "lost in action", or can be included in a secret base as a pop-out weapon. Most if not all of the parts included in the Assassin Droids battle pack are largely interchangeable with many LEGO Star Wars sets.

Collectibility

The Assassin Droids Battle Pack is more for play than for collection, partially because of the low "rare-parts" number. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack is only good for a collector who either needs every single set that LEGO produces in their LEGO Star Wars line, or for a collector who just needs more Assassin Droids. For most collectors, the Assassin Droids Battle Pack will not be one of the top items in their checklist of 2009 LEGO "sets to buy", but will be more on their checklist for LEGO sets to "buy for a friend". The easiest and best way to collect LEGO sets is to buy them in pairs, and buying the Assassin Droids Battle Pack with the Clone Walker Battle Pack will make this set even more collectable.

Display

The Assassin Droids Battle Pack has a moderate display value by itself. With a interesting design and great minifigures, this set looks moderately when on display, though the low piece count does lower the overall "wow" when most people first see this set. Though when bought together with the Clone Walker Battle Pack, you can set up your own diorama or makeshift battle even while having a nice "punch-for-the-price". Overall the Assassin Droids Battle Pack is more a set to be combined with one or more larger LEGO sets than a set to be played with and displayed alone.

Resale

Because this set contains very little extremely rare parts, it will be very hard to resell later on. As usual with most LEGO Star Wars sets, you can wait a few years until Assassin Droid Battle Packs become extremely rare, so you can make a modest profit. The only different thing about the Assassin Droids Battle Pack is the fact that it is one of the sets released in 2009, the 10th anniversary for LEGO Star Wars. This event combined with a Clone Walker Battle Pack may help you find an even larger profit than normal.

As Lego Star Wars Club wraps up the review for the 8015 Assassin Droids Battle Pack, consider the value for your buck for this set. The Assassin Droids Battle Pack and the Clone Walker Battle Packs give you a great play value for a small price. Though the Assassin Droids Battle Pack does not contain any very "rare" parts, kids and diorama makers will love this set and buying it for them, yourself, or as a sweet party game is a good decision. In this review, LEGO® Star Wars Club brings you the finer points of one of the most realistic and special sets of LEGO Star Wars 2008-2009! The Republic Attack Gunship was released in mid-2008, marking a new era of LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars products. In this set, LEGO has really redesigned their old Republic Attack Gunship, adding many moive-authentic play features and new Clone Wars style clone-troopers. Although this amazing set is priced at a relatively high, $199.99, it has many special features that make it worth-while as a large gift for any collector or special kid!

Overview

The LEGO Republic Attack Gunship, also known as the Low Altitude Assult Transport, has 1034 pieces and a lot of minifigs! This helps with the overall play value, and will really boost the display value. The rare Plo Koon minifigure is only found in this set, and is another great reason to buy it for collectors and kids alike. Also, because the set includes the sinister Asajj Ventress and Obi-wan Kenobi, you can reenact the famous battle between them as seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. These minifigures can also be used in combination with other classic LEGO Star Wars sets, as there are many scenes in which many of these characters come into play. With Plo Koon, you can also replay the famous battle between Koon's fleet and the dreaded Malevolence starship, though other sets should also be bought in order to create this action-packed scene. The best part about this set is how much detail that LEGO put into it. Plo Koon's mask resembles the real one with the utmost precision. Unlike LEGO's Kt Fisto, Released in 2007, Plo Koon's mask is not rubber-like, and is actually hard plastic, like every other LEGO piece in your collection. Everything in this set does something, from the cockpit seats to the eight guns on top, LEGO has really well crafted this flying-playset.

Building Experience

When you first open this gigantic set, you can literally see the amount of pieces included in this set. Every piece contributes in some way to the overall building experience and play value. LEGO followed many of their old Republic Gunship Designs, such as the wings, and engines for this spectacular build. As in almost every LEGO Star Wars set, there is a lot of symmetry and "2x" instructions incorporated into its overall design. Overall, the building is relatively easy for the experienced LEGO hobbyist, but not the best choice for a young LEGO builder. The build can get tedious at times, but at the end is worth it as each part contributes to the accuracy, and play features it has. Some of the best build features include:

The best feature in this set is that everything does something. There are countless hatches and firing mechanisms. The main side doors have an intuitive way of opening: You push in a LEGO part, and they open automaticly. There are also lots of weapons for the minifigures and on the ship including 8 flick-fire missiles and two front-mounted rotating missiles. There are also many accessories that come with this set, such as the spy droids and the minifigure accessories. Together, they make for one of LEGO's best Star Wars: the Clone Wars sets.

Collectibility

To say it plainly, this set was not meant to be collected. Its high price and many play features all prove that this set is not a set to buy for your collection. This set, however expensive does include many minifigure accessories and minifigures that you can't find anywhere else. It also includes parts which allow you to make rare setups like the Bacta tank. The minifigures are very well designed by LEGO and are very rare. Commander Cody is very precise to the original Star Wars saga and has a great color scheme and decal placement. There are also rare brick colors included in this set. Overall, it would be better off with your kids or as a present to someone as a playset, but it still can be a great [expensive] addition to your collection.

Display

This set would look perfect in your display case! It has an impressive look to it, because it measures 14" long, 17" wide, and 7" high! The colors of the set look perfect in the average home, and the minifigures only add to the general look! Sadly, there is no display stand included in the set, but one can easily be purchased off of one of the unofficial LEGO markets. Plus, you can just build your own stand from your old LEGOs or your LEGO: Factory or CREATOR parts.

Resale

This set will be coveted by LEGO fans throughout the LEGO Star Wars Era after production stops! It has rare parts that will disappear very soon. This is set includes one of the first versions of Plo Koon, a leading Master in the Jedi council. Overall, you could sell this set for $180+ when production stops. After Five years, this set could easily sell for $600+!

Concluding Remarks

As you can see, this incredible set includes many play features that make it worth the money. Hopefully, as time progresses, many resellers will find that their investment paid off. Though this set is somewhat expensive, it includes numerous features and will make the perfect gift for yourself or a kid. Combined Review

Though each set recommended above has low ratings, both bought together is a great deal and features many minfigures for only $50. Buying these companion products boosts your droid army and collection, and is a great gift for kids under 11. One problem that people usually find with these sets are the Hailfire Droid treads tend to come off when rolled around. To fix this, reduce the number of links on each tread by 2 or 3 until the treads reach your desired tension. Minifigures include Commander Fox, a normal Episode I clone trooper, 5 battle droids, and 2 super battle droids.

Overall, both sets show great durability, construction, and play value. When bought alone, the Republic Fighter Tank is hard to play with; but bought with the Armored Assault Tank, you can help Master Yoda with clone reinforcements! Together, this combination set has about 1,000 pieces in total, and is great for kids who like making Lego animation or playing with Legos in a battle scene. Comes with 9 minifigures in total. Released in some areas as early as December 2008, this set is part of the second wave of LEGO's "The Clone Wars" line. It includes a Vulture Droid, Ahsoka's Jedi Starfighter, two Buzz Droid minifigs, and many great features. Ashoka Tano herself in Lego is a rare minifigure as she has so far been released only in large $100 sets. Her ship and the Buzz droids are a great result of LEGO's past experience with Anakin's Starfighter and Obi-Wan's Starfighter. LEGO has also included their novel flick-firering missiles which greatly add to the overall playability of this set. The color scheme of this set matches perfectly with her ship in Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, and features some recognizable features and details. Overall, this set isn't LEGO's greatest set, but is one that can complete and perfect your Lego Star Wars Clone Wars collection enormously.

Just like Ahsoka's Starfighter & Droids, the Hyena Droid Bomber was also released as early as December 2008 in a few countries, and the rest of the world in January 2009 as part of LEGO's "The Clone Wars" line of products. It includes three Rocket Battle Droid minifigs, four dropping bombs, and many other features. The Hyena Droid Bomber itself is somewhat original, though it incorporates the old design from the Vulture Droid and the older Droid Starfighter. The minifigures - three rocket battle droids feature a new color scheme not seen before by LEGO, and includes an interesting rocket pack design which uses binoculars. Overall, the Hyena Droid Bomber is a great filler set to be used in conjunction with a larger more complicated set.

As LEGO begins to cut back its production of 2008 sets, 2009 LEGO sets begin to emerge from the production line. A few of these sets go quite well with one another, and today, Lego Star Wars Club brings to you a unique Space Action Battle Pack, featuring Hyena Droid Bomber (Item Set Number 8016) and Ahsoka's Starfighter (Item Set Number 7751). This combination set includes some new and revered minifigures such as Ahsoka and Rocket Battle Droids. This combination makes a great gift for your child, friend, and just about anyone else.

Overview

When both sets went public in December 2008, LEGO was just hinting to what a fantastic year the 10th anniversary of Lego would be. We have seen some of it in the chrome version of Darth Vader, new and improved designs and features, and simply amazing new sets. Well, the year isn't over yet. The Space Action Battle Pack with over 500 pieces, each averaging under 12 cents, combines great playability, with a simply marvelous display, there's no wonder why Lego Star Wars' 10th Anniversary has a superior standard. The Space Action Battle Pack includes 4 minifigures (Ahsoka, and 3 Rocket Battle Droids), all of which simply cannot be found anywhere else for such a cheap price. LEGO's stunning depiction of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show shows the details that no fan or collector can resist. Both sets are designed with playability and display in mind.

Building Experience

The build of both these products is generally not to too difficult as the recommended age from LEGO is around 8+ - the average LEGO building level for these types of sets. The Hyena Droid Bomber uses traditional adjustable angler pieces in the legs, and is very symmetrical, adding to the simplicity of this set. Ahsoka's Starfighter & Droids also plays off a very simplistic, symmetrical design, with identical Buzz Droids and a symmetrical wing and body design for the starfighter. Both of these sets in this combination set are very easy to build but still looks fantastic in a display.

Play Features

Great play features undoubtedly come with these two sets. For the Hyena Droid Bomber, you can switch between walker, and bomber attack modes. The Hyena Droid Bomber like many LEGO Star Wars ships include bombs that can be "dropped", adding even more fun play features for your kid or for yourself. For Ahsoka's Starfighter & Droids, you can attack the Vulture Droid using the Starfighter's flick-firing missiles. Her starfighter also includes LEGO's normal working landing gear, which consists of adjustable brick angler pieces that can "fold up" and "down" when needed. The two Buzz droids are also a great addition to this set as you can use them to attack Ahsoka and her ship in a makeshift space battle. Together, the Droid Bomber and Starfighter can be used to reenact any one of your favorite space battles throughout the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes.

Parts

These two sets, when combined, has an inventory of 523 pieces. However, to get a real idea of how valuable these sets are, lets first take a look at Ahsoka's Starfighter. Right away, you'll notice the two buzz droids, the R7-A7 droid, as well as Ahsoka Tano herself! Ahsoka Tano in LEGO is highly revered, and for many collectors, can be a real payoff in the future. The Buzz droids in this set also have some parts that many Lego enthusiasts like: saws! The Vulture Droid wings are also rare, as LEGO doesn't produce a lot of these types of wings for their set with this blue color scheme. The Hyena Droid Bomber has some real nice parts such as the Rocket Battle Droids. These special type battle droids have never appeared before in LEGO sets, and the new orange color scheme is also a rarity in Lego droids. The Rocket Pack Droids also come with new type LEGO droid arms and LEGO's somewhat new blaster pistols and rifles. Altogether, these two sets have some rare parts, though I would not recommend buying this combination set just for these parts.

Collectibility

The collectibility of these two sets is pretty decent. and with Ahsoka Tano with her starfighter, collectors should really go for this set. The Buzz droids in Ahsoka's Starfighter & Droids are not too collectable, though the Rocket Pack Droids in the Hyena Droid Bomber set certainty are. Some collectors though, may not like the sets as much, due to the stickers that LEGO uses to add detail onto the sets. These stickers, though nice at first, start to crack and peel as time wears on. Overall, these sets don't have an extraordinary amount of things to collect and waiting long enough for these sets to go up enough may not prove to be worthwhile.

Display

The display of these two sets together is absolutely phenomenal. Together, you have a combination of two Star Wars space ships from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, each on opposing sides. Fans and collectors should love this set, because you can set up many battle scenes, pitting the Republic against the Separatist forces. Both of these sets look great whether on a bookshelf or a display case, and Star Wars fans can instantly recreate their favorite space battle scene with Ahsoka by using these sets!

Resale

As LEGO beings to stop production of the Droid Bomber and Starfighter, their values will begin to grow. I don't recommend resale, however, because if you are focused on the money, I suggest buying a more resell-able item such as Darth Vader's Tie. There are not many "very valuable items" and mostly these sets should be bought for its great playability, features, and display value, and not so much for its monetary value.

Concluding Remarks

Whether you are buying this set for you son, daughter, or your friend, I recommend buying them together. For one, together they have an increased play value and much more pieces for your dollar than if you buy them alone. When bought together, both sets include many worthwhile pieces, minifigures, and ships, and is well worth your money. As any kid who plays with LEGO can tell you, sometimes you buy LEGO just for the thrill of playing well.

Building Experience

The 10188 Death Star set utilizes a few new building techniques for the overall building of the spherical shape, but still follows a straightforward build pattern for the individual room structure. Although a few parts in the various rooms may require a swivel pieces and even the occasional adjustable angler, it is a pretty simple build for most who can follow step by step instructions. Generally, the hardest part about building the Death Star is its structural design frame, and making each room fit together properly in the end. Overall this set is a moderately difficult build and has acquired the difficulty level of ages 12 and up.

The best play feature of the Death Star is the entire set itself. Every room and section of this set can be used to recreate classic scenes from LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and the original Star Wars movie, such as rescuing Princess Leia with Luke, swing across the chasm, and then drop down into the trash compactor with Han Solo and Chewbaca. The smaller things in the Death Star such as the rotating turbo lasers, superweapon, and the miniature Darth Vader’s TIE all add to the playability of the Death Star making it a simply fabulous play-set.

Key Parts

There are many great individual parts of the Death Star including the superlaser, the R2-Q5 crane, the uncountable number of minifigures, and the mini TIE Fighter, but there really isn’t a best one—without a certain part as the Death Star wouldn’t be the Death Star. For example, if the Dianoga monster weren’t there, the trash compactor room wouldn’t be complete, and if the Control Room weren’t there, the Death Star wouldn’t be operational. Although there are a lot of good parts in the Death Star, they all need one another to amalgamate to form one great thing: the Death Star.

Each and every of the Death Star’s various rooms is like its own miniature set and presents different yet classic scene from one of the movies, and introduces a few minifigures. In each of the 11 rooms of the Death Star, you can experience more fun and action than with any previous LEGO sets ever before!

Collectibility

The Death Star has tons of parts that are both high in value and extremely collectible. Overall, the most collectible parts of the Death Star is its over 20 minifigures including Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Ben Kenobi, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and Princess Leia all in different forms from different episodes in the Star Wars saga. Also there are even more collectable minifigures such as the extremely rare Death Star Trooper, which is highly sought after and only available in this set, and the upcoming 2009 set, "Endor Base". These minifigures, although a small piece in this extremely large set, has an extremely high value when collected separate or bought together. The minifigures add a lot to the overall collectability of this set, which, even without the minifigures, is already quite collectable for any average collector however expensive it may be. Other great features that make the Death Star even more sought after include various room designs, the superweapon, and the new Darth Vader’s miniature TIE advanced. Overall the 10188 Death Star is one the most collectable LEGO items on the market.

Display

The Death Star has a high-quality, excellent display value. With a priceless design, and a glimpse at a fully operational LEGO Death Star, its display value makes up much of the set’s $400 cost. In each room, a timeless scene is recreated right before your eyes with a simply marvelous display never seen before by LEGO together, and since the Death Star has eleven different rooms, it has almost eleven times the display value of your typical LEGO Star Wars set (though 11 times the cost of your typical LEGO Star Wars set). When all eleven rooms come together to form the Death Star, its display value increases even more! Whether you’re purchasing the Death Star for you child, friend, or even yourself, I highly recommend this product because of its appearance and display value.

Resale

As the 10188 Death Star possesses an innumerable amount great features, qualities, and design traits, its value, mostly stored in its parts and display, is sure to escalate in the coming years as LEGO begins to shut down the production and distribution of the Death Star. As it has an extremely low resale value though while it is still in production, though you can be even more assured that, if you’re in for the profit, its value will definitely increase, soaring up to values 500 plus dollars. A few of the best and most rare minifigures of the Death Star are Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and Ben Kenobi. The minifigures also add to the playability of the set. For example, you can call a meeting in the Imperial Conference Chamber and invite Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, and the Emperor, then have Luke, Leia, and Han rush in and save the day. Even the less valuable minifigures such as the Stormtroopers and Droids can be important to the overall playability and resale of the Death Star. Overall, the number of minifigures, and the variety of them are what makes this set so playable, and so great for LEGO investors and collectors.

Of the many great things about the 10188 Death Star, the best thing about it is its playability. It includes many features such as 24 minifigures, various rooms and scenes, and valuable parts, all which increase the Death Star’s overall playability. Also, when factoring in the set’s price per piece ratio, awesome display, and design structure, the overall set’s physical value is extremely high relative to many other LEGO sets of its caliber.

Cons

• Slightly difficult build for younger children

• No outer covering for the Death Star

• A sightly expensive price for many average buyers

Though there aren’t many areas for improvement of the Death Star, only a few are noticeable. The first thing about the Death Star is its slightly complicated build pattern and design for younger children. For one, spherical shapes are generally rather a difficult build, and second, every room must fit together perfectly with the other rooms for it to fit together properly. Because of this, the set has been appropriately assigned the difficulty level of 12+. Another thing that LEGO could have improved on was to include some kind of outer covering, that could enclose all of the rooms and make the Death Star look, well, like a Death Star instead of a gigantic play-set (which it is). This would greatly increase the overall interest of it as a display set, and could provide another way for this set to be even more versitile. The last thing that LEGO seems to not take into account when designing such a large scale set such as this is the average buyer price standard. Most buyers will not shoot for such a high price when looking for a gift for someone else or themselves, and upon seeing the price tag, most, if not all will turn away to a cheaper, more affordable product, most cases not LEGO. Though the piece to price ratio is very good, $500 is still $500, and money spent is still money spent. Overall, besides a slightly difficult build pattern, and the price, there are very few downsides to this set.

Concluding Remarks

As this review begins to come to a close, consider all the great parts, the amazing features, the collectibility, the display value, and the resale value, of the Death Star itself. Some of the more supplementary features of the Clone Walker Battle Pack include new black armor for the clones, flick-firing missiles for the walker, and poseable legs. It is a great addition to anyone's collection.

Building Experience
The 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack inputs the traditional building techniques for Walkers while simultaneous introducing a new, yet straightforward build pattern. Like many other sets, it will play off symmetrical design for both the legs and within the cockpit. The legs will use adjustable angler pieces to put the walker in just about any position, and with a wider foot, you no longer need to worry if it will stand up properly. The best play feature is the Clone Gunner minifig, as it comes with a new redesigned torso, helmet, and accessories. The flick-fire missiles add to the playability of the set and are a great feature.

Parts
The best pieces of the Clone Walker Battle Pack are the array of clone armor and accessories. Although other sets come with accessories, this set features over five unique guns and a set of black armor—never has such a large collection of accessories been released in a single set. Besides the accessories, there are no other collectible pieces.

Collectibility
I like to classify sets into "playable" and "collectible". This set just happens to be a playable one. It has a few collectible parts that will increase in value, but this set is more about playability. If you're in for the profit and the play, I suggest buying two sets and selling off one. That way, you will still get to experience the Clone Walker Battle Pack and make a profit.

Display

The Clone Walker Battle Pack has a quality display value. With a timeless design and an inside peek at a Clone Wars battle scene, its display value is a large part of the set's value. The walker can also be combined with other sets to form a spectacular arrangement of the history of the Clone Wars, or you can combine the set with other battle scenes to form your own Clone Army!

Resale
As this product contains several sought after minifigs, new redesigned features, and many other fine qualities, its value is sure to escalate in the coming years as LEGO ceases to manufacture and distribute the Clone Walker Battle Pack. Because it is still being sold by LEGO, it will not turn out much of a profit if you were to sell it now on Bricklink, eBay, or another store today. However, for this set really to make a profit, you need to wait a couple of years at the most and the value is sure to increase several fold.

Today Lego Star Wars Club brings you a closer look at our pick for one of the best 2009 Lego Star Wars products. This set first appeared in Toys R Us stores and other LEGO shops around the U.S. as early as late December of 2008. This simple but elegant set is priced at $29.99 and includes one of the most sought after minifigure produced by LEGO, Darth Vader himself.

Overview

Tie will immediately catch the attention of kids and adults of all ages, whether collector or builder. Darth Vader and even Darth Vader's new torso makeover will also attract even more attention, nothing has been produced of its type for many years by LEGO. Another drastic change by LEGO is the abrupt change from rare chrome lightsaber hilts, to dull gray lightsaber hilts, and now in Darth Vader's Tie, the silver-gray lightsaber hilt. Everything about this new and totally redesigned set is just calling for attention.

Building Experience

Darth Vader's tie features the old Tie fighter building techniques with joint connecter pieces for the wings and adjustable angler pieces. There is a lot of symmetry in the way that Darth Vader's Tie was designed and overall, the build is easy and straight-forward. The flick firing missiles are finally redesigned somewhat by LEGO as before they tended to either fall off completely or not fire correctly. Overall, the set is relatively easy to build for all ages from 7 up.

Play Features

Overall, the best play feature is Darth Vader himself, as most kids/adults don't usually pretend to fly ships around the room. The flick firing missiles are a great addition, and adds the playability of the set.

Parts

If you are buying Darth Vader's Tie for parts, you should rethink even collecting LEGO. Though Darth Vader's Tie is relatively cheap and offers a high price per piece ratio, the only major parts Darth Vader's Tie are the two wings with the base plates attached to it. There are very little unique pieces besides the translucent bubble shield for the cockpit of the ship.

Collectibility

Star Wars minifig collectors and even regular collectors will try to get this set. Everything about it says, "collect me", from the new Darth Vader and lightsaber hilt, to the new Tie Advanced. Most likely though, collector will go for Darth Vader instead of the ship, though some will see its overall value as one of LEGO Star Wars' 10th anniversary set. For collectors and other people who want to make money off of this set, I would recommend keeping at least 1 copy of this very unique set because after 2011, this set could increase by at least 200% in value if not more. My word of advice to any and every collector: this product will sell out quickly with all the high demand from even regular buyers, so buy it quickly!

Display

Darth Vader's Tie has an enormous amount of display value as having Darth Vader with his ship is very rare and is one of the most classic scenes in Star Wars. Darth Vader can also be used for other display items such as with Luke on Cloud City ("Luke I am your father") and also in a transformation scene in Episode III. With the help of a makeshift stand, this set is the ultimate LEGO Star Wars 2009 set to display on your bookshelf or on your desk!

Resale

This set which includes the highly sought after Darth Vader will sell for over $20 for just Darth Vader and his lightsaber on Bricklink or Ebay. Though if you sell the set whole right now on Ebay, many people don't buy it because of the convenience of buying it cheaper at their local Toys R Us. For this set to really pay it self off, collectors (and you) just have to wait a year at the most (so that LEGO can stop producing and selling it) for it to at least double in price on Ebay and Bricklink, talk about a profit!

Concluding Remarks

Darth Vader's Tie is a set that can either earn you a lot of money or give you a great play experience for your kids or for yourself. It's low price tag is what really one of the greatest features of this set, and compared to Count Dooku's Solar Sailor for $60 with only 385 pieces, Darth Vader's Tie is well worth your money. The collectibility of this set makes it even more worthwhile for even a serious collector. Unless you want to miss out on LEGO's deal of a lifetime, I would seriously recommend buying this great set.
