IT Search is a right, not a privilege!

With this week's announcement of PUNQ (our free IT Search utility) many are asking why we would offer a fully scalable IT Search tool at no cost. Reflecting on the question, it actually makes perfect sense because the common approach used by vendors today is to offer the market a limited-scale tool at no cost, and then charge the client once the volume increases.

And, while there are probably a dozen different motivations a company might have for bringing a product like PUNQ to market, ours is actually quite simple - and is based on two fundamental beliefs. ..

IT Budgets: Increasing to Save

4 in 10 are increasing IT spending... but they are ultimately looking to save. According to Information Week & a poll conducted by Interop, a full 42% of respondents indicated their IT spending would increase, and most agreed it would increase around technologies such as Cloud Computing, and IT energy conservation- both are high in ROI.

Ultimately IT budgets are increasing to save. If you are attending Interop, and your budget isn't increasing, and even if it is, you are most likely looking to cut costs. layerX can help with that! Stop by our booth #1951 to fill out your own ..

We have been getting ready for several months now, and we are excited that the show is finally upon us. You are probably just starting to think about going, and what you are going to do when you get there, or you are still on the fence about whether or not you can attend. Well here's a bit of an incentive: you can register for a free expo pass using the priority code CMXXNL03!

IT Search - a means to an end...

One of the more recent technology breakthroughs in enterprise management tools has been the adoption of data indexing technology (think "Google") as a data storage and retrieval vehicle. Not only does indexing provide an efficient method for storage of large amounts of network event data, but it changes the way analysts perform forensics by allowing administrators to search millions of IT events in a matter of seconds - similar to the way you would use Google to search the internet. I see this as a positive trend for enterprise management tools and, in fact, recognizing this need we developed our indexing ..

Quality Measurement: 25 Most Dangerous Programming Errors

The world of software development has changed significantly since my early days as a developer. Everything from UI design, development methodologies, testing and prototyping methods have changed. In this world of fast paced changes sometimes the focus turns from quality to speed. But you have to find an optimal balance for both.

At layerX our focus is to balance speed of product evolution with quality...

Recently I came across an article in Network World, identifying the top list of software errors, and evaluated it against our own processes. I was pleased to find that we scored very well in the test, ..

The end of SIM... as we know it.

Security Information Management, or SIM for short, evolved primarily as a management discipline to help customers aggregate and make sense of the sea of event logs emitted by security appliances and network systems. The first generation of tools focused on collection and aggregation of events, and were appropriately ..

We have a pretty fun work environment... no.. take it back.. a very fun work environment. Regular activities around the office include frito-pie socials, homemade gumbo lunches, and of course lots and lots of pranks. One of our recent pranks turned out to be one of those crazy moments of innovation.
