I have backed out of my driveway for 18 years and never come close to hitting the hickory tree on the driver's side at the end. Two weeks after purchasing the Prius 2010, I whammed it into the tree, thinking I was clearing it handily as usual. Every review on the Prius notes this problem; why has Toyota neglected it? There's no excuse for this design: a spoiler in the middle of the back window, a tinted window below, wide panels obscuring corner vision with a tiny little window in them, a window shape that narrows toward the bottom of the window, creating the sense that the body of the car is narrower than it is, and a large, solid headrest that's difficult to see around. Thank goodness I only hit a tree, even though the rear side panel is a mess. Changing lanes in traffic is dicey because of the visibility problem, and I am normally a very confident driver. I would expect there to be lawsuits over this, if there haven't been already.
2010 Toyota Prius Review:
As much as I like the Prius, I couldn't recommend buying it until the dangerous visibility problem has been corrected. You shouldn't have to pay for a back-up camera to compensate for a design flaw.

2007 Toyota Prius Review, by Marv. I'm 82 so definitely not a lead foot. Took it to dealership and came back with info someone went around a block 4 times and came back after re-setting at 44 mpg?? After driving appx. 70 miles it's settled back at 34 mpg. What gives?

2008 Toyota Prius Review, by emckinnon

Performance: 5
Exterior: 5
Interior: 3
Overall: 4
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2008 Toyota Prius?
MPG
Comfort
HYBRID System
Touch Display
Steering Wheel Controls
Cargo Space
Cons: How would you improve 2008 Toyota Prius?
Poor Tire Wear
Small Gas Tank
Better Quality Interior (Materials)
Better Location of AUX Connection
Cruise Control Resume
2008 Toyota Prius Review:
Very reliable. Great MPG even when not focusing on getting better MPG. I carry two bikes on the roof (THULE) at times, and I still get 45 plus MPG. Surprising power at highway speed. The rear hatch doesn't always latch correctly. It's been aligned, but it still has issues unless it's firmly closed. Tire wear could be better. Better quality materials for the dash and other parts of the interior would make it easier to keep looking new. Overall the car is better than I expected. very roomy, which was a surprise.

2007 Toyota Prius Review, by Buck

Performance: 2
Exterior: 1
Interior: 2
Overall: 2
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2007 Toyota Prius?
Gas mileage
2007 Toyota Prius Review:
An absolute money pit of a car by way of maintenance costs. Now have 50K miles.... Have replaced both front head lamps@ $500 per headlight. Rear tail light required replacement : $50.00. Tires are specific to the car so the odd size raises the price considerably. Costs for regular service are a joke at the dealership with their color tiered system. I'll give you the fact that 45 MPG on average is good, but I can buy a whole lot of gas on what I have had to spend on two headlights and other maintenance overcharges. Overall poorly designed.......

2010 Toyota Prius Review, by Jim Krob

Performance: 5
Exterior: 5
Interior: 4
Overall: 5
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2010 Toyota Prius?
We like its sharp styling, great mileage and futuristic cockpit with all the bells and whistles.
It is very comfortable with the adjusting drivers seat, the Smart Key is great, and the navigation system works well.
At this point we are really pleased with our purchase.
Averaging 48 plus mpg in mixed driving conditions.
It has as much if not more room than our 02 Camry and the cargo area is excellent.
We went with the 17" tires to get improved handling and this gave us a little rougher ride!
Cons: How would you improve 2010 Toyota Prius?
Visibility to the rear isn't the best - better have the back up camera.
Would have liked to see the headliner and cargo area in the same color as our leather seats - minor point.
Couldn't get the moon roof on the V which we would of liked to have.
It is overpriced!
2010 Toyota Prius Review:
Overall we are very pleased. It is a fun car to drive, although it takes some adjustment of driving habits. The mileage has been super and it is a comfortable ride with plenty of room in the cabin. Has plenty of "zoom" when you need it, although it isn't a sports car. You can't go wrong with this car if you can afford it!

2008 Toyota Prius Review, by Will Schaefer

Performance: 4
Exterior: 5
Interior: 4
Overall: 4
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2008 Toyota Prius?
Great gas mileage.
Cons: How would you improve 2008 Toyota Prius?
Extremely poor tire wear - we check them with inflater before using car to ensure proper pressure; computers fail randomly and indicate 'hydraulic' failure; also have experienced a situation of going downhill, used brake and B in drive; 'coincidentally' car stuck in neutral and then hydraulic failure lights came on -- still waiting for dealer response as to, why?

Battery failure if not driven frequently.

Bad news for expensive car and theoretically good dealership.
2008 Toyota Prius Review:
Bad news for expensive car and theoretically good dealership.

2009 Toyota Prius Review, by Paul Prince

Performance: 5
Exterior: 5
Interior: 4
Overall: 4
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2009 Toyota Prius?
Gas Mileage.
Sports Car Feel.
Display.
Rapid Acceleration.
No key to handle, drop, lose.
Backup video screen.
Cons: How would you improve 2009 Toyota Prius?
Cruise control takes too long to kick in after restart from a stop.
Seats could be more comfortable.

2010 Toyota Prius Review, by Guest

Performance: 2
Exterior: 3
Interior: 1
Overall: 1
Review Guide: 5=Perfect; 3=Good; 1=Poor
Pros: What do you like about 2010 Toyota Prius?
I like the look of hatchbacks, and they car is roomy inside.
Good turning radius.
Cons: How would you improve 2010 Toyota Prius?
Costs WAY too much.
Pollutes more than a hummer(counting what it takes to make it).
Big plastic bar between the rear windows is at eye level, a very bad safety flaw.
2010 Toyota Prius Review:
TOO MUCH MONEY! The concept car looked much more futuristic and would have been a nice evolution.
2010 Toyota Prius Review:
We've had both the original 2001 and second generation 07 Prius. Both have been outstanding cars, the 07 in particular. With the 2010 model Toyota engineering continues its record of improving comfort, performance, and fuel consumption even more.
