Owners of the Land Rover LR2 have rated it top of its class in the Luxury Crossover Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment in AutoPacific 2009 Vehicle Satisfaction Award research. In addition, owners surveyed in the Luxury Crossover SUV segment voted the Land Rover LR2 the vehicle they would most recommend to others.

AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Award (VSA) is an industry benchmark for objectively measuring how satisfied an owner is with their new car or light truck, and reflects the opinions of consumers nationwide. The VSA Awards summarize the results of AutoPacific’s 2009 model year vehicle satisfaction research. More than 25,000 consumers around the country participated in the survey.

Range Rover Facelift Latest Spy Photos Reveal New Details

Fresh spy shots of a facelifted Land Rover Range Rover have emerged. The current model of the big luxury SUV has been on the market for the past seven years. It had a mild facelift in 2006.

These new images reveal a bit more exterior detail than previous spy shots. They show a front bumper with new fog lights and newly-designed rear lights. The front end is getting LED daytime running lights while the rear lights also get LED technology. Changes to the interior will only be minor because this part of the car was recently upgraded with higher quality materials.

The Range Rover is expected to get a couple of new engines, one of which is already fitted to its Jaguar XF cousin. This particular engine is the AJ-V6D Gen III 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo diesel which is found in the new XF Diesel S. It produces 275PS (202kW) and maximum torque of 600Nm. Such a torque figure would be quite suited to a vehicle of this size. The AJ-V6D Gen III S Diesel replaces the 2.7-litre that was popular with Jaguar S Type buyers.

A brand new Range Rover is only expected to start selling in the year 2011 as a 2012 model year so this second facelift is more like a stop-gap to prolong the lifespan of the current car. Due to hightened environmental concern the next-generation Range Rover is getting downsized. It was recently announced that the production version of the LRX concept which was unveiled in Detroit 2008 will inherit the Range Rover name.

Land Rover's most fuel-efficient car drives out of Halewood

Halewood, Merseyside, England, 16 March 2009 - The first official Freelander 2 TD4_e was produced at the Jaguar Land Rover assembly facility at Halewood today.

The new vehicle is Land Rover’s most fuel-efficient to date and is the world's first SUV to feature an intelligent Stop-Start system. It is also the first production vehicle to incorporate technologies from the Land Rover’s programme of sustainable engineering initiatives, collectively named ‘e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES’.

During the standard EU4 Cycle, the CO2 emissions of the Freelander 2 TD4_e are reduced by 8%, compared with the outgoing manual diesel Freelander 2. Fuel economy also improves from 37 mpg to over 42 mpg and, in real world tests, Land Rover engineers have measured fuel savings approaching 20% in heavy urban traffic.

Land Rover's new Stop-Start system improves fuel efficiency in urban and stop-start driving. The vehicle automatically shuts down the engine in appropriate conditions, resulting in zero tail-pipe emissions and saving fuel which otherwise is used idling the engine when stationary. But the engine will instantly re-start when the driver is ready to move off.

There are also sophisticated controls in place to help ensure the Stop-Start system does not compromise the needs of either the driver or vehicle. For the engine to shut down, the vehicle must be stationary, the gearbox in neutral and the clutch pedal raised. To restart, the driver simply depresses the clutch and the enhanced starter motor engages the engine, ready for when first gear is selected.

The Stop-Start system is automatically activated each time the ignition is turned on, although there is a switch on the fascia to disable the system, if the driver so desires.

Phil Popham, Land Rover’s Managing Director, said: “The Stop-Start Freelander 2 is the first production vehicle to benefit from the massive £800 million investment in sustainable technologies by Jaguar and Land Rover. The Stop-Start feature will be included as standard on all Freelander 2 TD4 manual models, with no associated increase in list prices."

The Porcelain White 'Job One' vehicle, which is destined for a customer in Spain, rolled off the production line at 11.00. Those members of the Halewood workforce who have been instrumental in ensuring a successful launch of the new vehicle were present to celebrate.

Michael Straughan, Operations Director for Halewood Operations, said: "Everyone at Halewood is delighted to be building a vehicle which uses this very special Stop-Start technology. It is the first time that a Land Rover product has utilised a system from the ‘e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES’ package and we have been working hard to ensure the product is launched with exceptional build quality.

Prototypes of the vehicle have already received excellent feedback from automotive journalists and dealers and we should see the first production vehicles in dealerships around the world, in a few weeks time."

The Halewood facility employs 2000 people and is recognised throughout the industry as an example of excellence for quality and lean manufacturing. Halewood also builds the Jaguar X-TYPE alongside the Freelander 2.

Land Rover LRX Production Version to be Badged Range Rover - First Image Surfaces

The UK Government has confirmed a grant offer of up to £27 million is to be made available to Land Rover for the production of an all-new car. The company is due to make a final decision on the the go-ahead of the project at its award-winning plant in Halewood, on Merseyside, later this year.

The car would be based on Land Rover's acclaimed LRX Concept vehicle, first shown at the Detroit Show last year, and would be the smallest, lightest and most efficient it has ever produced.

"We welcome the Government's support for this project, which would form a key part of our future product plans and which we very much want to put into production," said Phil Popham, Managing Director of Land Rover.

The grant offer will be made available under the Government's Grant for Business Investment scheme and is an important contribution towards the overall £400 million cost of the project. This is separate from the broader automotive support package currently being unveiled by the Government.

Although it still has to go through a number of approval gateways in the product development process before getting the final go-ahead, Land Rover has also confirmed that the new car would be a key addition to the Range Rover family of luxury vehicles.

Phil Popham said, "Our engineering feasibility study has shown that we can very successfully deliver Range Rover levels of quality, drivability and breadth of performance in a more compact, more sustainable, package. Feedback from the most extensive customer research we have ever undertaken also fully supports our belief that a production version of the LRX Concept would further raise the desirability of our brand and absolutely meet all those expectations."

"It would be the smallest, lightest and most efficient Range Rover that we've ever built," Phil added. "The compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies of the LRX Concept showed how Land Rover is planning to respond to the needs of a changing world. The new Range Rover would embrace excellent levels of refinement and all-round capability and also introduce new powertrain options, providing a major step forward in enabling the implementation of Land Rover's e-terrain technologies strategy and achievement of its goal to exceed a 20 per cent improvement in CO2 emissions.

It's been said that the LR3 is pound for pound, ounce for ounce, the most capable and innovative vehicle Land Rover has produced since the Series I. If you compare the automotive advancements in features like full-time 4wd and a locking center differential found on the Series I to the LR3's traction control system and automatic lockers you begin to see the similarities.

Gordon has been in a league of his own developing LR3 products and pushing his company vehicle to it's limits competing in extreme off-road Gymkhana's in the rough terrain of Australia.

Gordon's goal was to keep the D3 100% streetable as he uses it for carting the family around and towing his camper while still being able to hold it's own in tough off-road competitions. "Although the LR3 is one of the largest vehicles LR has produced with a long wheelbase. It really wasn't that difficult." he noted. "The LR3 has everything it needs right out of the gate. All you need to do is add some protection and off-road tires and you've got a good shot at being competitive. Land Rover Debuts Range Rover Westminster Limited Edition and MY2010 Freelander 2 (LR2)

LAND ROVER DEBUTS LATEST RANGE AT THE 2009 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

Land Rover is to show the new Range Rover 'Westminster' Limited Edition together with the 2010 model year Freelander 2 (LR2) at the Geneva Motor Show, starting today.

300 Range Rover TDV8 'Westminster' editions will go on sale at Land Rover dealerships in the UK from the end of March. The unique 'Westminster' features include 20" Diamond Turned wheels, an exterior design pack, 'Westminster' tailgate badging, half wood steering wheel and stainless steel accents to the brake and accelerator pedals.

It is available in either Santorini Black or Stornoway Grey with Ivory/Jet or Jet/Jet interior colour ways from £62,995, or with a distinctive limited edition metallic paint colour called Marina Black from £63,995 on the road.

Rendered Speculation: Next Generation Range Rover

Land Rover tends to take its time when it comes to replacing models. This applies especially to the Range Rover lineup. The current car was first introduced in 2002 and since facelifted versions are still being tested. It's not expected to debut anytime soon.

This rendering represents an idea of what the artist feels could be the next Range Rover. The basis is obviously the LRX Concept car which made its world debut at Geneva a year ago. With current buzzwords like ‘lightweight' and ‘economy' taking the front seat at the expense of words like ‘massive' and ‘power', the rendering focuses on the supposed use of lightweight materials.

Aerodynamism is important so the design is geared towards an SUV that cuts through the air as quickly and efficiently as possible. The use of LED lights will be as widespread as xenon technology within the next 10 years. Designers find it easy to work with LEDs because the diodes are flexible and give them lots of liberties with design. For this piece of art the artist has decided to keep the Range's classic lines as a way of preserving some of what we know as cars for future generations to marvel at.

Nothing was said of the powertrain but something like a hybrid or a full-on electric drive system would be the one used.

ARK ReDesign unveils three-door Range Rover Sport conversion

UK: Autocar snaps 2010 Range Rover just a few months before its official debut!

A refreshed Range Rover, powered by JLR’s new supercharged 5.0-litre V8, has been confirmed for an April on-sale date. This lightly disguised prototype doesn’t hide the mild exterior revisions that Land Rover has made to the Range Rover. Behind the perforated ‘bumper-bra’ are a new grille, headlamps and bumper moulding, while tape over the tail lamps hides new LED lights. A mildly revised interior includes a new steering wheel, chrome trim around the centre console and revised sat-nav system. The biggest change is the new supercharged V8, with more performance yet better fuel economy and lower emissions.

Land Rover is also understood to have revised the chassis and steering for the more powerful Range Rover V8, improvements that also carry over to the Range Rover TDV8. These revisions will attempt to arrest a slide in Range Rover sales, which slipped to around 5000 in the UK and 7000 in the US last year. The revised Range Rover will be revealed at the New York show in April, since the US is the biggest market for Range Rover.

The Range Rover’s TDV8 engine – by far the best-seller in the UK, with around 95 per cent of sales – will continue in the freshened RR without revision. Land Rover has chosen to ignore Jag’s new twin-turbo 3.0 V6 for the RR, even though it has identical 272bhp peak power as the TDV8. The superior torque of the TDV8 – 472lb ft against the V6’s 420lb ft – is one reason. The prestige of a V8 badge in Land Rover’s flagship is another. Land Rover has engineered its own version of the 3.0 V6 turbodiesel, which produces 242bhp and 442lb ft of torque and will replace the 2.7-litre V6 diesel in the Discovery and Range Rover Sport and is due on sale in September.

Official: Haldex announces AWD system for new Land Rover model. Possibly the LRX. Officially scheduled for 2011 production!

Haldex, the AWD systems specialists who also provide systems for the Freelander 2 (LR2), announced that they will supply the AWD system for a new Land Rover model scheduled for production in 2011. We can only speculate that this system is intended for the production LRX. The LRX Concept debuted at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show powered by a US federalized 4-cylinder turbo-diesel hybrid electric powertrain, which delivers up to 50mpg.

Production models might be powered by the same engines as the Freelander 2 (LR2), but we expect a few new transmission options such as dual-clutch unit with the possible addition of paddle-shifters. 2-door and 4-door models are expected and a hybrid electric diesel option should be available at a later date. Press Release: Haldex secures AWD order from Land Rover

Haldex has received an order from Land Rover, which is owned by Tata, an industrial group based in India. The order applies to Haldex’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system for one of Land Rover’s new car models.

Land Rover is Europe’s foremost manufacturer of jeeps that satisfy meticulous demands in terms of off-road characteristics. Haldex received its first Land Rover order for an AWD system in 2004. The new order reflects Land Rover’s continued confidence in Haldex’s leading-edge expertise in the field of advanced AWD.

Production is scheduled to commence in 2011.

The annual order value is estimated at SEK 100 million and the order represents a 100-percent increase in Haldex’s existing annual volume from Land Rover.

"As a result of the order, Haldex strengthens its position as an AWD partner with Land Rover and thus also within the expansive Tata Group. Tata Motors Ltd currently manufactures several all-wheel drive car models and the fact that it is located in the heart of one of the world’s most expansive regions represents a considerable advantage", says Joakim Olsson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Haldex. "This transaction also strengthens Haldex’s position in the fuel-efficient cross-over segment".

Land Rover Partners With Nevada Passage

“Nevada Passage” is a reality television show series. The T.V. show features a number of teams in pairs who compete with each other in different activities. Such activities are bicycle races, kayaking, jet skiing, rock climbing, and other various outdoor activities. It all started three years ago in Reno, Nevada. The tourism commission of Nevada was responsible for creating the show “Nevada Passage.” This year it gets bigger: The television reality series show is about to go international. Along with this big step, they have partnered with a well-known automobile maker, Land Rover.

“Nevada Passage” will be featuring Sport Utility Vehicles from Land Rover. The series will kick off in May his year, serving as one of the qualifying events all over the world for the 2008-2009 Land Rover G4 Challenge. There will be 18 said qualifying events and will be featuring a couple of activities. These activities will include off-road races, navigation challenges, trail running, mountain biking, and kayaking.

The tourism officials conceptualized the “Nevada Passage” show in order to promote Nevada as more than the place for casinos. The officials want the people to know that their place offer more than that to their visitors. Previous “Nevada Passage” competitions took place in Sierra Nevada (backcountry skiing), Sand Mountain Recreation Area near Fallon (sand-boarding), the Truckee River in downtown Reno (kayaking) and the Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas (rock climbing).

The exact location of the event, which will last for five days, is kept secret. The tourism officials together with Land Rover made it necessary to keep the location a secret to be able to avoid competitors from getting ahead of the others.
