The author brilliantly dismantles false hopes, false promises, and false guides. He exposes hollow and deceptive philosophical solutions that present themselves as superior to Christ. Many people offer many alternative theories of change, as Thaddeus points out, that lead us away from Christ and His grace. Change is possible! What needs to change? Read the book! It's excellent! 5 Stars!

Homemade Ginger Cookies

Once in awhile I love to make cookies, especially ones that smell good and taste good, too!

Do you have a favorite cookie recipe? I guess most folks will say, "Chocolate Chip Cookies!" And they would be right but I'm allergic to chocolate, so a popular one that I chose is "Ultimate Ginger Cookie." Here's the recipe if you care to give it a try...

Ultimate Ginger Cookie (Makes 16 Cookies)

2 1/4 C. All-Purpose Flour)

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

2 Teaspoons Ground Cinnamon

1 1/2 Teaspoons Ground Cloves

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Ginger

1/4 Teaspoon Kosher Salt

1 C. Dark Brown Sugar, lightly packed

1/4 C. Vegetable Oil

1/3 Un-sulfured Molasses

1 Extra-large Egg, at room temperature

1 1/4 C. Chopped Crystallized Ginger (6 ounces)

Granulated sugar, for rolling the cookies

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and salt and then combine the mixture with your hands. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the brown sugar, oil, and molasses on medium speed for 5 minutes. Turn the mixer to low speed, add the egg, and beat for 1 minute. With the mixer still on low, slowly add the dry ingredients to the bowl and mix on medium speed for 2 mins. Add the crystallized ginger and mix until combined.

Scoop the dough with 2 spoons or a small ice cream scoop. With your hands, roll each cookie into a 1 3/4-inch ball and then flatten them lightly with your fingers. Press both sides of each cookie in granulated sugar and place them on the sheet pans. Bake for exactly 13 mins. The cookies will be crackled on the top and soft inside. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for a minute or two, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Classic Real Ginger Cookies

1 c. Almond Flour

1/2 c. Oat Flour

1 Egg

2 Tbl. Coconut Oil (solid form)

1/4 c. Maple Syrup

1 1/2 Tbl. Molasses

1/4 tsp. Vanilla

3/4 tsp. Fresh ginger grated or 1/2 tsp. ground ginger

1/2 tsp. Cinnanmon

1/2 tsp. Cloves

1/8 tsp. Salt

1/4 tsp. Baking Soda

Mix all. Refrigerate batter 30 mins. Use ice cream scooper and scoop into balls, then flatten. Place 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 for 8-12 minutes.

Here's another cookie recipe I received from my mother-in-law a long time ago...

Mrs. Fields Gingersnaps

2 1/2 c. Flour

1/2 tsp. Baking Soda

1/4 tsp. Salt

2 tsp. Ground Ginger

1 tsp. Diced Crystallized Ginger

1/2 tsp. Allspice

1/2 tsp. Black Pepper

1 1/4 c. Dark Brown Sugar, firmly packed

3/4 c. Salted Butter, soft

1 large egg

1/4 c. Un-sulphured Molasses

Bake at 300 for 24-25 minutes. Yields 2 1/2 mins.

Enjoy for special times and all the time!

Today is a good day! I was looking through my library of children's books and found the perfect hardcover one for my grandson. It will be an awesome gift for his birthday. It's called, Will You Help Doug Find His Dog?

Here's a little bit about the book:

Help Doug find his dog by patting, tickling, and calling to the correct dogs based on Doug's clues! As the reader selects dogs, the pool narrows until a surprise ending reveals Doug's dog--and why he went missing. Featuring hilarious illustrations of funny dogs galore, this text is perfect for collaborative storytime with beginning and reluctant readers.

The book is great for kids 2-5 years old, you know, the preschool - kindergarten age group. The font size is large and is easy to read aloud. Plus, 32 pages to read aloud is the right time frame to keep their attention on the storyline.

What I really like are the large gorgeous illustrations of lots of dogs. This book is so engaging. An unseen narrator draws you in with a plea for help, "Will You Help Doug Find His Dog?" The authors, Jane Caston and Carmen Saldana do a great job offering us this very intriguing book.

Making Good Decisions

Hi There!

I don't know what you are experiencing during these challenging times... I can tell you that it has been easy for my husband and me to stay quarantined for almost 5 months. What isn't easy is thinking through every decision and making good ones regarding disinfecting everything and everyone!

So, in order for us to make good decisions, together we seek the Lord daily for clarity. I think we all learn the hard way sometimes. Quite often when our dreams become nightmares many times we choose the wrong goal. " Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.

Sometimes we reach Destination Sickness. Often it's a Dead End Syndrome. You know what I mean... We took the wrong path! Ouch! Or how about this one, the Alexandra Syndrome. Alexandra wept and thought it wasn't what it should have been.

The word of God says in Proverbs 16:9, "In their hearts, humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps."

So, I am learning some Pillar Facts and these are not assumptions. Pillar Advice would be to ask and glean from the experts. A humble heart and a teachable spirit are good. Finally, the Pillar Impact asks, 'What are the long term and hidden consequences?"

I ask myself these very important questions:

"Is this the right time?"
"Is it the right way?"
"Am I the right person?"

I am learning lots from Moses in Proverbs 16:9. I have been reading about Jacob in Genesis and reading about David in 1 Chron. 22. Indeed, when we get through this awful COVID virus, there will be no doubt that God's grace got us through. Stay safe, everyone!

He Will Come Back

Dear Readers,

I am living in a very different world right now. I never thought in my lifetime I would experience these humungous changes due to the virus. Many of my friends say we are living in the last days and that it's going to get worse. Well, I woke up thinking about the lovely day ahead of me. How I have experienced self-confinement for 5 weeks now. That means I have had lots of time to read my Bible and do some outdoor gardening.

I think the bottom line is: Jesus will return physically to this world during the great Day of the Lord to establish His kingdom. In the meantime, believers are to walk worthy and battle faithfully as they impact this world for Christ! Here are a few points to consider:

Does The Mission grip the mind and heart of early believers and yours also? Acts 1:1-8
Are you anticipating the work of the Spirit in your life? Acts 1:8
Is this a conviction of yours, the reality of seeing Jesus again? This is the core belief of early Christians. Acts 1: 9-11

I am pretty sure a change is coming. What we're experiencing may be the birth pains... Here are some important truths regarding the return of Christ:

You will see Jesus in the future! (either at His return or at death) Acts 1:11
It will be the same, Jesus. He will find you!
It will be a physical return.
It will be in the clouds. Matt. 24:30
Do not set return dates. Matt. 24:36-38

You know, there's a lot of info out there regarding views on the rapture...

All I know is that I want to be ready to receive Him. To take this time to evangelize others. To actively serve Christ and yield to the Lord daily.

Not Surprised by the Opposition

Don't be surprised or discouraged by any opposition.

Who do you think you should listen to? I have my devotional and I am finding that the word is what I need to be reading right now. Especially Acts 4:13-18 because it reads, "But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name." And 1 Peter 4:12-13 is encouraging to my heart when I share my faith-based perspective on things that matter to me, and hopefully to you as well.

The opposition...

More interested in the status quo than the Word of God.
No real acceptance of the miraculous.
No consistent logic about the supernatural.
No willingness to accept the "good" resulting from God and His word.

I need to remind myself where the authority of truth is found. (Acts 4:19-22) and embrace with a surrendered heart, the sovereignty of God. (John 19:11). Be encouraged with believers praying and following Christ in the community. Acts 4:23-24 says they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them."

So, I ask myself... Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain? Why so much division? I am holding fast to the faith I have in Jesus. He is holding my hand, always with me, the strength of my heart and my portion forever, says Psalm 73:23-28.

The focus of our faith and praise...

Who our God is! (Sovereign Lord)
What our God has made! (The heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them)
Where our God has most clearly been revealed. (Through the Holy Spirit)

Personal Insight

As I write to you, I am watching sermons online because large social gatherings are being canceled to help one another stop the spreading of the Coronavirus. I want to take this time to share with you a personal family miracle. In 1918 my mother-in-law was born during the Spanish Flu in Iowa. Thousands were dying. She and her mother were the only mother and child that left the hospital alive. Please pray for quick testing of this virus and overall reducing the number of infections. Better treatments and ultimately, a vaccine. As we do our part, may God's protection be upon us.

I am looking forward to a new study, Everyday Theology. We live in exciting times with all that is going on in the world and yet we can look back at the church under attack and the church alive in the book of Acts! Be encouraged!

I received this lovely book as a gift from my Aunt Margaret. She sure knows her cookbooks! Wow, what a description, "From Cake Mix to Cake Magnificent." The cake photos by Anthony Loew are so inviting. The best cakes and frosting recipes compiled by Anne Byrn are a hit with my grandkids, including the Spice Doughnuts near the back of the book.

We are fans of Marsha's Lively Lemon Bundt Cake, Cherry Dump Cake, Pumpkin Spice Cake, and Zucchini Spice Cake. The toppings are sensational, like Coconut Pecan Cream Cheese, Penuche frosting, and Fresh Berry Compote. Midway in the book are Educational Baking Tips for Kids that my grandkids love!

Greek Cauliflower Salad

Earlier in the week, I was shopping at our local Costco and came upon a bag of chopped cauliflower in the freezer section. I had microwaved it and it tasted pretty good. I thought about spicing it up a bit with the ingredients I had on hand... My family said this salad was a huge success!

Here's the recipe:

Greek Cauliflower Salad

Cauliflower, one head chopped on a food processor or frozen bag cooked
Yellow Mini Bell Pepper, finely chopped
Red Onion, maybe less than 1/2, finely chopped
Red Cherry Tomatoes, about a cup, sliced in half
Greek Kalamata Olives, pitted and chopped
Parsley, 1 Tbl. You can add fresh mint and Greek basil if you want
Salt and pepper to your liking

Mix all together and add your favorite Balsamic dressing. Serves 6.

Being a "YaYa" (Grandmother) of 5 is a wonderful journey for me. I am passionate about all of them knowing Jesus, having hope in Christ, and discovering the power in God's word. When our new Bible book arrived, we opened to Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good. His faithful love continues forever.

Then we had a small group discussion on the believer's freedom. You know, looking out for others.
1 Corinthians 10:23

You say, "I have the right to do anything." but not everything is helpful. Again you say, "I have the right to do anything." but not everything builds us up. No one should look out for their own interests. Instead, they should look for the interests of others.

To the grownups... You know, as Christians we are part of the awesome creation of God: the church! We have a calling from God that glorifies him but also gives our lives meaning and purpose. I believe ministry by definition is unselfish but it blesses you. Acts 2:42-47

Book Review

Wow, what a beautiful hardcover Bible for children ages 4-8. Third graders will have an easy time reading the single-column text as they discover powerful Bible stories within. There are tons of good illustrations, with underlying captions, that are sprinkled in different positions on the pages. Plus, there's a special ribbon marker to hold your place. If you're a visual learner, you will be pleasantly surprised to find full-color friendly maps tucked inside the back cover of the book. I recommend this lovely children's Bible for home and church library. My grandchildren love this one!

Book Review: Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

I was thrilled to receive a copy of the book, Don't Sweat The Small Stuff, from my Aunt and Uncle in 1997. I have read it and re-read it many times over. What can I say... it affects me! When I heard the news of the author unexpectantly passing of cardiac arrest awhile back, I was shocked. I later learned how Richard Carlson's wife picked up the pieces and coped through many changes on her blog, https://kristinecarlson.com

But before I forget, I wanted to share a bit of information I just learned about...

Sitting in the waiting room biding my time until it would be my turn to see my doctor, I browsed through a plethora of magazines. When I got home from my appointment, I noticed an email from Amazon letting me know of some great $5.00 deals on magazine subscriptions. I think I'll get some for my piano studio waiting room but you need to hurry, offer expires August 20th!

The Breakfast Book

I'm a fan of eating well in the morning. The fruit fresh from the orchard is appealing as well as a warm cake or bread, for sure. The author covers bread, muffins, eggs, cereals, all things toast, quick bread, fruit, potatoes, sweets, hearty meat and fish dishes, and breakfast beverages. Here are a few recipes from this must-have cookbook. It is well organized and the baking choices are quite delightful. I like this book and I'm so glad I found it at our local bookstore. I'm a huge fan of ginger, so here are some warm treats to try. You'll definitely want to further explore the lemon section of the book.

Gingersnaps

Makes about 40 cookies. Try crumbling them over oatmeal.

1/4 c. canola oil

1 cup sugar, plus extra to roll the cookies in

1 egg

1/4 cup molasses

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 and grease some cookie sheets.

Beat together the oil and sugar. Add eggs, beat until light and fluffy, and then add the molasses. In a separate bowl, stir and toss together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to the first mixture, and beat until smooth and blended.

Gather up bits of the dough and roll them between the palms of your hands into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in sugar. Place about 2 inched apart on the prepared cookie sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until the cookies have spread and the tops have cracked. Remove from the oven, take the gingersnaps off the baking sheet, and let cool on the rack.

Soft Gingerbread

One 8-inch square gingerbread.

This fine-crumbled and finely spiced gingerbread is exceptionally good.

1 cup of sugar

1 cup dark molasses

1 cup of vegetable oil

3 eggs

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 cup boiling water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and lightly flour the baking pan.

Put the sugar, molasses, oil, and eggs in a mixing bowl and beat until smooth. In another bowl, combine the salt, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, flour, and baking soda and stir with a fork until well mixed. Stir into the first mixture. Add the boiling water and beat briskly until smooth. This is a thin batter. Pour into the pan and bake 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm.

I especially like the "Driftwood" devotional because of its refreshing and courageous encouragement for a closer walk with the Lord. The photos are absolutely gorgeous and meditating on God's word is a true treasure to know Him and have His peace. I love the devotional and it definitely makes an excellent gift, too.

The author shares a few moments of her story with honesty and transparency. In that way, I believe she is able to lead people through the journey of life in the pit and then offer helpful insights to live a new life of freedom by trusting in God. Beth's approach to painful situations and finding hopeful resolutions is always based on the truth of God's word. So, unlike most self-help books, the author shares how crying out for help, confessing our wrong-doings, and surrendering to the Lord daily offers a pit-less future. This small hardcover book is filled with many scripture references encouraging the reader to know Christ and His redeeming power of grace, especially Psalm 40:1-2.

4/5 stars. I recommend it.

The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the font size is too small.

My Thoughts

At times getting along with your younger brother can seem so annoying. Often a younger brother has difficulty connecting with his older brother and waiting for him to play with you can be so difficult. This funny story cleverly was written to show families how to resolve conflicts with siblings. The warm illustrations of the younger and older fox richly enhance the storyline. After many unsuccessful attempts to connect with his older brother Benny, the little fox finds a way to reach and involve his brother in a fun activity. This is a beautiful book for home and school library.

So, let me share with you why I like this book so much! I believe it's a process in dealing with our anxiety and fears. We live in an anxious world that's going so fast. I'm finding that everyone gets scared at times and everyone is afraid of something. I felt like Ruth wrote just to me because her book spoke straight to my heart!

Book Review

First, if you're looking for some answers in coping with fear and anxiety issues, you'll find amazing tools that will help greatly in Ruth's new book. With research gathered from over 4,000 people, I found many insightful ways to shrink problems down to a manageable size. Without a doubt, I moved forward to reaching some of my goals with the gifts and talents that I have. It's definitely a process in understanding our fears that go with some pretty deep issues. The writings in the book have stretched my faith. What helps is to learn the archetypes of fear and know what truth is to help move you forward through the hard times. At first, you feel quite vulnerable but it's liberating to have the freedom (to give yourself permission) to try something new! You just do it! So, discover your purpose, your dreams, and goals by doing it scared!

What a delightful, fun read for my grandchildren!! An adorable piglet, Mercy finds herself living with human parents named Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. It's a perfect match in so many ways. Zondervan recently released the NIV Artisan Collection Bible. I chose the teal background
with floral design and music notes on the staff. This lovely hardcover Bible is a beautiful addition to my piano studio. The inside cover displays a cluster combination of various music notes, along with the Treble Clef and Bass Clef. The real treasure is God's word, of course. Your eyes can easily read the contents written upon off white pages with large margins on the left and right side just perfect for note-taking and journaling. With one glance all around the outside cloth-covered Bible, you'll find foil-edged gilding and two very useful ribbon markers for studying purposes. I feel as if the back cover is specially designed just for me (and for you) with Psalm 104:33, "I will sing to the Lord." Highly recommend.

I love this book because it is so nurturing and affirming. Brilliant writing in capturing the pure honesty of a little girl's perspective amidst family dynamics. Whether one is overshadowed by siblings or compared with others in the family tribe, the feeling of not measuring up or feeling good about oneself and their performance needs to be addressed. So, a loving Granddad overhears the cry of the little one's heart to be a star and helps her to recognize the beauty of her own special uniqueness in a beautiful and powerful way that she will never forget. The illustrations are grand, with peaceful hues and realistic scenes, along with an imaginary under-the-sea visit that is my absolute favorite. The ending is great, too!
