Lace and Glitter

Using SU Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, a piece of lace, and retired SU glitter a snowflake can be created. The bigshot is used to cut the snowflakes out using the SU Snow Flurry die. The background is created using SU Cherry Cobbler Core'dinations CS with the SU Northern Flurry Folder. It is lightly sanded and embellishments placed.

Holiday Ornament

The Holiday Ornament that appears on the front cover of the SU Holiday mini is not hard to duplicate just labor intensive but well worth the effort. I used the tutorial by Kirsteen Gill (www.creatinwithkirsteen.com)to construct the ornament.

Scentsational Season Card

Using the SU Scentsational Season stamp set and framelit dies to create this card was really easy. I folded a card base of Soft Suede into a gatefold card. I inked the gingerbread man stamp first with Vera Mark than Early Expresso and applied Dazzling Diamonds. Gumball Green was used on the mug and Real Red marker on the candy cane. Pearl bling was used for accent and DSP from the Festival of Prints completed the outside. The inside started with WW CS and Gumball Green and Daffadil Delight were used for background color. I used the framelits to create the shapes and used scrap pieces of ribbon to fill in the space. Threw on some bling and stamped some sayings and I was done.

Ornaments with Soda/Pop cans

Grap your glue gun, empty soda/pop cans, Baker's twine, SU glitter paper and large pearls,hole punch and the SU "Snow Flurry" Bigz die to create snowflake ornaments. Easy and a great way to recycle those alumnium cans.

Sweater Trim Card

Making a wreath with the new "Sweater Trim" from SU is relatively easy and works well on the Side Spring Card format. The format for the card was designed by Beate Johns and recently demonstrated at the LNS event in Utah. The base is CS cut to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" Score on short side at 2 3/4" Score on long side at 2 3/4 and 4" Score diagonally between 2 3/4" and 4" Crease and fold. The wreath was made by braiding all three colors of the sweater trim and forming a circle, using hot glue to connect the ends and tying a bow. DSP was from the "Festival of Prints" from the Holiday Mini.

Christmas Cards Traditional

The cards today are constructed the old fashion way - with DSP, scissors, paper trimmer, and snail. The first card uses items from the Holiday mini "Christmas Lodge" stamp set, DSP paper from "Frostwood Lodge" set, holly from the "Stocking Accents" die, Cherry Cobbler "Quilted Satin Ribbon" and berries from SU red glitter paper. The card base is Crumb Cake CS, layered with Always Artichoke CS, and topped with Cherry Cobbler CS embossed with the "Snow Burst" folder.The holly leaves were embossed with the SU "spider Web" folderto add some depth.
The next card is a CASE from Connie Babbert and others using a leaf from the French Foliage stamp set. I stamped each petal using SU Very Vanilla on Cherry Cobbler card stock and than covered each leaf with Versa Mark and Iridescent ice embossing powder. In the center of the poinsettia I used a half inch circle punch of Daffodil Delight CS decorated with SU Basic Pearls. The rest of the card is very basic with the card base being " Riding Hood Red, Always Artichoke and Very Vanilla embossed with the "Snow Burst" folder. Always Artichoke seam binding is used as is a saying from the "Four the Holidays Stamp set."

Z Fold Hybrids

Using the Z-Fold technique to display MDS images is a great way to combine traditional card making with computer software. The first card uses images from SU MDS "Christmas Lodge, Welcome Christmas,and a saying from a stampbrush set". Add some SU Dazzling Diamonds glitter, Cherry Cobbler seam binding and punch and use the die Modern Label the card comes together nicely.Card base is Night of Navy and ink colors are Night of Navy, Basic Gray, and Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White CS.The WW CS and DSP is mounted on Garden Green CS.

The second card uses images from the MSD set "Christmas Lodge and Four the Holidays and enhanced with SU Rhinestones. The card base is Blushing Bride with DSP from the "Letters to Santa" collection. Finishing touches were added with the Early Espresso Quilted Satin Ribbon

Hybrid Christmas Cards

My Digital Studio expands ones' creativity when designing cards. The first card I was able to use three SU stamp sets from my MDS file (Old Saint Nick, Snow Burst, and Tree Trimmings) and used the traditional Christmas colors (Real Red, Night of Navy, and Garden Green)for a focal point. Once printed I used embellishments to add depth to the card (rhinestones, glimmer and tiny brads). The second card I used the same template but changed the focus colors to something nontraditional ( Pool Party and Calypso Coral)and added some different types of snowflakes to the inside of the card. To complete the card I added some ruffled ribbon.

Christmas Coasters

Card class his week focused on tile painting for Christmas coasters. The use of Stazon to stamp the image and SU Classic inks and markers makes this an easy project to do for gifts.

Christmas Wreath

I purchased a wooden circle at a craft store and wrapped it with SU Wild Wasabi ribbon. I cut various strips of DSP paper to make the popular "lollies" and decorated them with many SU accessories.

Gently Falling

Featured in the new Holiday Mini Catalog is the stamp set Gently Falling. The card base is 5 1/2" by 4 1/4". I used Versa Mark and stamped the base to provide texture. Next I cut a piece of Crumb Cake CS 5 1/2" by 2 1/2", ran it through the Stripes embossing folder and stamped it useing Soft Suede ink. The next layer is More Mustard 4" by 3 1/4". First Edition DSP is cut to 3 3/4" by 3" and stamped with the Gently Falling set. Next I sponged a combination of inks to color the images. To finish the card I used brads from the Regal collection and More Mustard Scallop Dot ribbon.

Holiday Mini Preview

The Holiday Mini has so many wonderful items to use when designing your cards and your scrapbooking layouts.I used The wording from the Bells and Boughs stamp set and created the mantel by inking the Stripes embossing folder with Early Espresso ink and running it through the Big Shot with Soft Suede CS. The card base is WW CS that has been put through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice folder. I cut a rectangle out of the front of the card that measures 2 1/2" by 1 1/2" and framed it in by using the left over pieces from the mantel. The stockings were made using the new Stocking Builder Punch in the Holiday mini. They were decorated using the Snow Burst embossing folder, rhinestones, Red Glitter paper and Real Red and WW CS. Each was hung with white Baker's twine onto the mini brads. The fireplace was made using Basic Gray CS and cut with the same measurements as the front of the card. It was scored using the Simply Scored tool to simulate bricks. The logs came from the left over mantel peices using the Word Window punch and adjusted to fit in the fireplace. The flames were leaves from the Bird Builder punch cut out of Daffodi Delight CS and distressed with Cajun Craze ink.The sentiment is from the Bright Hopes stamp set.

Field Flowers

When I saw Mary Brown's card using Field Flowers I knew I had to try duplicating it in some way. I played with the positioning of the SU stamp Hello,Doily using Crumb Cake ink and CS several different ways until I got what I wanted. I stamped over this with the Field Flowers stamp set using Basic Black ink and added three brads from the Neutral collection.I mounted this onto Early Expresso CS.

Since I had several samples (mistakes)left over from my attempt to duplicate the front of the card I decided to use these inside the card. Using the Lace Ribbon Punch I added a layer to the left side of the card and I knew my (mistakes) unused creativity would work well with the new Peekabook Frame die. Under the flap I stamped with the Easy Events stamp set and paper pieced the frosting and cupcake holder using DSP Just Add Cake. I finished the design using the SU Write Markers.

Lesson to be learned from making this card - never throw away something that later can be used as a background to compliment your card.

I CASED a card found in the new Holiday Mini on page 34. I used Cherry Cobbler CS as a base and the Pear Pizzazz DSP from the In Color Paper Stack for the background. The Perfect Pennant Die was used to cut out the Scallop circle using the left over background paper from yesterdays card. The stamp set Perfect Punches was used to create the message and the 1 3/4" Scallop Circle punched it out. A quick and easy card.

Christmas Stocking Punch

I love creating with my new SU punches, stamps, papers, and embellishments in this year's mini Holiday Catalog from Stampin Up. I started with WW CS and inked my acrylic blocks with Real Red and Wild Wasabi. I randomly stamped to create an abstract background. I next used the new Stocking Builder Punch to build three stockings. With two of them I alternated the Red and Silver glitter paper and the third one I used Real Red and WW cardstock that I embossed using the new Snow Burst textured folder. To hang the stocking I used the Cherry Cobbler/white Baker's Twine and a couple Wild Wasabi Glimmer Brads. The "Joy" on the stockings came from the Naturally Serif strip die. Merry Christmas is included in the Bright Hopes stamping set.I mounted the front piece onto a base of Wild Wasabi.

I wanted to work with SU's new Pennant Parade Stamp set and the Petite Pennants punch being offered in the new SU catalog 2011-2012 so I CASED a card from our professional magazine Stampin' Success - June.

The base of the card is So Saffron CS and is layered with pieces of DSP from the Just Add Cake series. I used Early Expresso CS punched with SU Ribbon punch. I stamped the tree pots with Early Expresso and the trees used varies colors of green (Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery and Always Artichoke). I used the Tiny Tag punch, and the rhinestones and pearls from the SU Basic Jewels collection.I used SU Dimensionalsto raise one tree and the tag. The new supplies can be ordered beginning July 1.

Open Sea

I really like the new stamp set in the SU Summer Mini "The Open Sea". The card base is SU CS Not Quite Navy and SU CS Whisper White is stamped with Expresso and Baja Breeze to create a collage effect. The bottom edge is torn just slightly. The next layer is again NQN and the Whisper White is stamped with Baja Breeze using the log page stamp to create a subtle background. The ship is stamped with NQN. The WW is cut into equal panels and layered onto the NQN. Makes a great Father's Day card.

Workshop

Why do we call our SU get-togethers a "Workshop"? Seriously do these people look like they are working? If our matra is "Love what you do, Share what you love" I call it a SU PARty.
We let the creative juices flow using various techniques (shaving cream, masking,) and SU products Watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, markers, blender pens, aqua painters, embossing folders, to name just a few).

Japanese Dye Technique

What do you get when you take a hammer, some flowers,different herbs, muslin, SU cardstock and a lot of imagination? The most colorful fabric and paper to use for your crafting projects.I used a variety of herbs and flowers - parsley, dill, geraniums (pink and red), hibiscus, petunias, marigolds, roses, and delphiniums to name just a few.I placed my SU Whisper White cardstock down first, then arranged the buds, herbs, and petals randomly and then covered them with a piece of muslin. Next I just hammered away getting different colors as each plant species gave up its juices. SU should name it's next green CS parsley since it is such a pretty color. I let the cardstock and fabric air dry. I did heat set both with an iron using parchment paper so as not to scorch the media. The next decision was what to do with my creation.I started with the fabric and decided to make a journal by applying an adhesive to Whisper White CS (8.5 X 11 and scored it in the middle),applying the muslin and smoothing out the edges, sewed all around the outside with a zig-zag stitch and used a decorative stitch and sewed randomly throughout the front cover (for decorative purposes only). I folded some copy paper (8.5 X 11) in half and aligned it with the center of the journal cover and using a machine basting stitch secured the paper down.
I made two cards, one using the Fun Flower die to create a fabric flower and the second one using the Top Note die. Each card color was chosen to enhance the colors created in the fabric.
The cardstock color imprint is basicaly the negative of the fabric. The section that was more greens and yellows (dill, marigolds, and thyme) was used to create a butterfly scene using the inlaid technique. I used the SU Beautiful Wings embosslit, Butterfly die and the Butterfly punch. I saved the purple and green hues (petunia and parsley) for a cardstock Fun Flower
