I'm not sure how everything works yet but it's getting there. There seems to be a lot to know about widgets and formatting and plugins but I will learn in time and things will get figured out.

Healthy smoothie for your health!

I read this post on Twitter by @olivosartstudio about healthy smoothies so I followed the link to an article. I was drinking my own smoothie this a.m. and wondered what other's were making for smoothie recipes. Their recipe has coconut milk and cacao in it. Sounds yummy! I'll have to try it! My smoothie recipe is below:
Take whatever frozen fruit you have in the freezer. I like various combinations of some blueberries, blackberries, mango, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, etc. and toss some in the blender with a scoop of ground flax seeds and a scoop or two of vanilla whey protein. Add some 100% juice of any kind or water and a couple ice cubes. You can throw in a banana, almond butter, yogurt for various changes to it. Blend it all up and you're done!

Inspiring Words on Charm Mobile Prints

I came across this image on a blog I was reading by Mallory McInnis called http://www.wherethelovelythingsare.com

I thought it was sooo cool! I love it! So I emailed Mallory about it and asked her where she got it and if I could use her image idea to create some of my own and she said "Sure". I love that when people are open to sharing ideas which can inspire others. I think as long as you ask that it is okay to use others ideas to make something new and give them credit, it's all good. I thought it was a real live mobile she made but it turns out she had created the image digitally and had got some of the images from alltheluckintheworld website by Jane Schouten. Since then, I see the image is on Jane's site. I wanted to give them both credit as they are the inspiration for the images I'm creating.

Having a love of working in Photoshop and combining that skill with my art, I started creating what I call my "Charm Mobile" Print Series. Below is the first one titled "Dance in the Rain". It features my painted piece of wood that I showed you in my Peace Pole blog post and one of my birds from my "Singing a Fiesta Song" painting.

and the second print is titled "Create Art" . I love old wood with a patina so I used a piece of wood that I found at the beach and I added my little hummingbird from my painting "One Lived in an Enchanted Garden". I used feathers that I scanned from my feather collection. I love collecting cool looking feathers that I find when I'm out and about.

The third one is titled "You Are My Sunshine". It's pretty happy with the smiley face on it. I've been hanging onto this old smiley pin for ages! And I love the yellow glow! I love making things glow in my art! I added the bird from my "Shimmer & Shine" painting. The metal circles say "strength" and "courage". My sister gave me those as a gift once, so I scanned them in and added them to the layout.

All three images come in 8.5" x 11" or 11" x 14" print sizes. You can purchase them at my Etsy Shop. I have some ideas for some other words and sayings too. Some of them are:

I also love that quote, "It's All Good". I think maybe I'll do one that says that on it too!

Tracy Leagjeld - 2009 Deschutes Brewery Jubelale Artist

Tracy Leagjeld is this years Deschutes Brewery Jubelale artist. I show my artwork with Tracy at the Tumalo Art Co. gallery in Bend. I have a fondness for Jubelale art because I was chosen as the Jubelale Artist in 2007. So I look forward to see what the next artist will do for their Jubelale art. I like the word Jubelale! To me it is a "happy" word and it conjures up feelings of festive times!

Deschutes Brewery chooses a different artist each year to represent their seasonal brew called Jubelale. I love Tracy's artwork! She does monotype paintings using oils. She works in layers and each painting is unique and beautiful! See some examples of some of her landscape paintings below.

The 2008 Jubelale artist was Pam Jersey Bird. I've shown with Pam at the Tumalo Art Co. as well and in some other places over the years and I just love her artwork too! You can see her Jubelale art and a selection of her paintings below.

Kitchen Art and Playing with Color

Who says art and color isn't everywhere?

I was sitting in my kitchen recently with my laptop and I started to look
all around and SEE the color.

So I took my laptop with it's camera and took a few shots to see what I could create. Was I bored? Maybe a little. When I'm bored I always think it's a good idea to PLAY. So that is what I did. Played with my camera and made some images I call "Kitchen Art".

Making of a Peace Pole for a Peace Bridge Dedication

A couple weeks ago I was invited to make a Peace Pole for a Peace Bridge Dedication on Sept. 20th here in Bend. I like to donate art to various events and it had been awhile since I had so I decided to make a Peace Pole to exhibit at the event.

First I looked online and found some sites about Peace Poles. I had never heard of a Peace Pole before.

I decided I wanted to use some wood I had on hand. I like to collect wood in all kinds of shapes and sizes. I keep it for future projects. I have a whole pile next to the house.

I've painted a couple times on wood before. I've mainly painted on driftwood.

The above piece is one that hangs next to our front door at our house.

Peace Poles typically are 4 sided but can be 6 or 8 sided or even round. They usually also say "May Peace Prevail on Earth". Mine was going to be 3 sided. 2 flat sides and a rounded side. I had an old pole that I found in the wood pile and I found a curved piece of wood that used to be part of a shelf unit which I wanted to use as a wing. Wings symbolize birds and peace and freedom to me. I thought it would be cool to put it on the top portion of the Peace Pole making it even taller.

I was told that the Peace Pole for this project in terms of design just had to be "peaceful". I could write or draw anything I wanted on it. That left things wide open. I ended up writing "Be Still and Listen" on one side and "Let Peace Prevail on Earth" on another side. And then the 3rd rounded side had flower and garden type images on it.

Below are images from the making of my Peace Pole.

This is the pole I found and the wood from the old shelf that I had cut into a wing shape. I sanded both.I got out my white gesso and covered both pieces which preps it to take the acrylic paint.

I found a container of dark blue paint that I had and put a coat of that on. I wanted a bit of the wood to show through so I left some natural wood stripes.

To get the feather pattern on the wing,, I used my fingers to draw into the paint while it was still wet. Then I started painting over the dark blue with other colors.

I found some plastic letters in my art drawer that peel and stick and I used them as a stencil. I put the words onto the wood, painted over the stencil and then pulled up the plastic to reveal the letters. Then I ended up hand lettering over the stenciled letters.

I was painting outside on the deck and it was nice to just mix my paints on the paper that I had spread out.
I added some of the white dots like I've been putting in my paintings lately. I thought it added a nice design touch.
Below is me with the final Peace Pole at the Peace Bridge Dedication site. You can see the bridge in the background. Some of the other Peace Poles were bright and colorful and I put mine in line with the others along the river.

They had speakers, music and singing, Native American prayers, delicious food and 50 doves of peace let go at the dedication.

There was a person putting free henna peace signs on peoples hands or ankles and there were a couple booths with peace information and peace stickers to buy. And there were beautiful purple tree branches hanging with Peace ornaments which made a gorgeous display!

Below is the Peace Bridge Plaque. Although is has a Dec. '08 date, they wanted to wait till International Peace Day on Sept. 20th '09 to have the dedication.

Above is Bend, Oregon's official Peace Bridge. They said there were only 4 bridges in the country dedicated to Peace. Hard to believe there would only be 4. There is a committee working to make Pacific Park, a park next to this bridge, a Peace Park as well.

Etsy Treasury and Hearting

My original painting titled Cosmic Garden II is featured in an Etsy Treasury today by LaughingFridge who has really cute Fridge Art Magnets in their Shop. For those who don't know, a Treasury is a listing of 12 hand-picked items from an Etsy member. The Treasury is short lived and the various Treasuries will change so one can see new items all the time. If a member is able to get a time slot for a Treasury, they can choose whoever they want, they can pick items by color, or a theme or type. The Treasury is not intended for self-promotion, but instead to acknowledge and share cool and beautiful things for sale on Etsy.

The person who included my item had a theme of having items from people that had hearted their shop. Hearting means one adds an item or member's shop to a list of their favorites. I like Hearting shops so I can easily get back to them and possibly buy something from a shop I like. Below is what a Treasury looks like.

Creative Mobiles and Hanging Artsy Things

I love mobiles and hanging, artsy things that swirl and twirl in the wind. I have quite a few hanging around our house and yard. Sometimes when we're at the beach or camping, I like to make mobiles from found objects. Below are a few samples of some mobiles and hanging art.

1 Year Anniversary of My Art and Travels Blog

It's been one year today, August 27th, that I started blogging. A year ago, I didn't know what it would be like to be a blogger. I'd heard a lot about it but I didn't know. So I decided to delve in and try my hand at it! And it turns out, I like blogging. I find it fun to share what I'm up to. Share my ideas, share cool things I've found on the web. I like sharing my latest paintings and my latest travel adventures. I like sharing about other artists I've found and their art! I love doing my Artist Day Notes on Fridays. It helps me to me more present. It sets me in a grateful mood for where I am at.

Blogging has opened me up to the whole world on the internet of people that communicate, buy, sell, share, challenge, spread joy and look to each other for inspiration. Cyberspace...it's a land that is wide open and expansive and it grows everyday as new people find their way to it.

I want to thank my followers who have been checking into my blog and making comments. It encourages me to know that their are people who are actually reading what I write! People who are interested. I know there are a number of blogs that I follow and I love checking in on them and seeing what people are up to. It inspires me!

Lately there is one lady in particular whose blog I love to read. We met through Etsy.com and I'm a big admirer of her writing! She is Kristen D. Randle and her blog is http://krandle.com/kstreetjournal/ I think her writing is just awesome and I'm currently reading her book "The Only Alien on the Planet" which I love and I just started reading! I already think it should be made into a movie! So you never know who you will meet on the internet. Especially if you take the time to leave a comment on someone's blog or make contact with them in some way. You might find you make a new friend, or like to trade ideas or art or website links. ...it sounds cliché but you just never know who you will meet unless you take the first step.

There are three artists I'd like to mention that I've enjoyed meeting since I've been on the internet with my blog and using social media. The first one is Juli Ryan. When I say "meet" it is through emails and correspondence on Facebook and Twitter or through Etsy or blogging. Someday maybe I will be able to meet Juli in person and go to one of her art shows because I just love her paintings filled with enchantment and color!

Another artist is Amy Komar. She lives in Alaska and I really enjoy reading her blog! The next artist I've enjoyed meeting is Tine Wiggens. Her playful, colorful art caught my attention right away! "Jeweled Sky" Mini Acrylic Paintings for Sale

I've been working on a series of 5" x 5" mini paintings I call my "Jeweled Sky" series. I've been playing with dots and connecting them to other shapes. I like this idea of connectivity. When I put the dots and shapes on a black background it reminds me of strands of jewels in the night sky so that is why I call it my "Jeweled Sky" series. The painting runs onto the sides of the canvas so they don't need to be framed.

I will have some of them for sale in my show opening at the Tumalo Art Co. gallery in Bend, OR on Sept. 4th. After I finish a painting, I will scan it so I can make a print of it and then I spray it with a coat or two of gloss acrylic coating to protect it. Below are the paintings which are drying after getting their first coat of spray. Check my Etsy shop in a few days and I will have these images available as prints.

Bird Art and Bird Houses

I do love to paint birds. I look at sketches and pictures of birds for inspiration but they end up coming right out of my imagination in the end. I like watching birds too. I'm curious about the life of birds. I like to hang bird feeders off our deck so I can watch them from inside. And I also like to have birdhouses around the yard and up in the trees so that the birds will come and live nearby. I decided the other day to shoot some photos of our birdhouses. The pics are below. I also went to Etsy.com and found some people who sell handmade bird houses. You can find just about any kind there, from colorful and elegant to rough and rustic. You'll find those below as well. Enjoy!

Our border collies and a click to save the animals

We have two border collies. Belle and Cody. Belle is the girl, 6 years old and black and white. Cody is the boy. He's 8 and a tri-color border. They get along fabulously and bring us a lot of joy! Below are a few of my fav pics of them. Of course, like any good pet owner, I think they should be on a border collie calendar cause they're so cute but then I'm a bit biased.

I was acually taking a pic of Cody's eye. When we were in Baja Mexico, both dogs got a lot of boogers in their eyes from the dust. The Vet said we could wash their eyes out with cool chamomile tea. We thought the salt water from the ocean helped a lot and washed out their eyes pretty good when they played in the water and it was always another good reason to get to the beach.

Color, Form & Fantasy is the title of a new show of paintings during the First Friday Artwalk on Sept. 4th at the Tumalo Art Co. gallery in Bend, Oregon. I'll be showing with digital media artist Dorothy Freudenberg who creates beautiful, colorful limited edition prints. There will be an artist reception from 5 to 9 pm on the 4th and the show will run through September.
We're having our postcards printed by psprint.com who is having a 50% off postcard sale through 8/31/09. I think I might print some other postcards for some promotional material to have on hand too. Check it out. It's a pretty great deal!
