Ann Romney says there’s a misconception that her husband is a stiffly stifferson. “There’s a wild and crazy man inside of there,” she told CBS This Morning. Mrs. Romney reminisced about her high school sweetheart playing jokes but didn’t go into detail for good reason. Mitt Romney was the high school bully from hell, according to the Washington Post.

During his senior year at Cranbrook School, Romney and his friends forcibly cut the hair of their classmate, John Lauber. “It started out as ribbing, sort of a pointed ribbing about his hair, but it very quickly became an assault, and he was taken down to the ground, pinned,” said Phillip Maxwell. “It all happened very quickly — it was like a pack of dogs.”

Lauber had long bleached-blond hair and was targeted for his perceived homosexuality. “He can’t look like that,” Romney reportedly told Matthew Friedemann. “That’s wrong. Just look at him!”

While his friends deeply regret the incident, Romney says he has no recollection of it and laughed off the whole thing as youthful indiscretion. “I participated in a lot of high jinks and pranks during high school and some might have gone too far,” he halfheartedly apologized on Fox News.

Romney’s idea of what constitutes a prank is eerily reminiscent of an old Saturday Night Live skit in which Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro prank their victims to death.

Forget Red Bull. Xiaogang No.1 High School uses intravenous drips to help energize its students.

“The state grants a 10-yuan subsidy for amino acids to each graduating senior that will participate in the gao kao (National College Entrance Exam). Any student that feels not well can go to the infirmary and take amino acids on the IV drip,” explained the Director of Office of Academic Affairs.

The IV drips became even more controversial when they were moved directly into the classroom to prevent any interruption in studying. School officials say they will continue to offer the injections, which are popular among students.

“I don’t think it’s inappropriate at all,” one student said. “Students preparing for the college entrance examination at our school began to take infusions of amino acids years ago and some of them took them more than twice.”

The exams are literally a matter of life and death for students. The National Higher Education Entrance Examination is a prerequisite for enrollment at the undergraduate level. The pressure to pass is contributing to China’s high rate of suicide, which is the leading cause of death among young adults.

China is experiencing a meteoric rise in education, while U.S. test scores sink like a stone. The 2009 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) tested 15-year-old students from 34 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Shanghai ranked 1st in reading, math, and science. The U.S. ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science, and 25th in math.

Singapore and Hong Kong recruit teachers from the top third of graduate schools. The U.S. recruits from the bottom third, according to the OECD.

“In the late 1990s we moved to all-graduate [teachers]. If we want to have high achievement, subject expertise is very important for secondary schools,” said Catherine K.K. Chan, deputy secretary for education in the Hong Kong government.

More than 80% of Shanghai secondary students attend after-school tutoring followed by three to four hours of homework each day.

Around 80% of Shanghai students (24% nationally) go on to college compared to 70% of U.S. students.

Rihanna has posted behind-the-scenes photos on her facebook page that show her from every angle.

She says it took 8 hours to paint the crocodile scales on her body but that’s probably just because the makeup artist was taking his time.

Fox’s Animation Domination is expanding to Saturday nights in 2013. The Animation Domination HD programming block will air 11:00 PM-12:30 AM ET/PT and feature four new animated series per season.

“It’s something that we’ve been working on for a while,” said Fox president of entertainment Kevin Reilly. “We have real estate on our schedule in Saturday night late night that we’ve not been programming in quite a few seasons.”

Animation Domination HD won’t only be competing with Saturday Night Live, it will also have a strong online presence that will extend across platforms such as Web, mobile apps, game consoles and Video on Demand. It kicks off in 2012 and will feature 50 original short-form pieces per year, online windows of FOX animated shows, and user-adapted content. It will create a unique opportunity for fans and up-and-coming talent to engage with professional FOX-curated content, which they could possibly platform into their own series. FOX will also use its expertise and cross-promotional power to nurture these new assets through this pipeline.

“This may be the first time a network is building a clear bridge for talent to develop and grow ideas in the digital/alternative arena and organically move them into the mainstream,” said Reilly. “These new late-night series will be assets in their own right – but the clear possibility exists for a breakout digital success to graduate to primetime.”

The first season will include Axe Cop, which is based on a webcomic about an axe-wielding cop, whose battle cry is “I will chop your head off!”

If it sounds childish, there’s a good reason for that. Axe Cop was created by 5-year-old Malachai Nicolle, and his 29-year-old brother, Ethan Nicolle, who does the art. Malachai has dreamed up an endearing black and white world with simplistically absurd answers to equally preposterous problems. When Axe Cop needs to fight an unknown enemy, he uses dinosaurs because whatever it is “it can’t beat dinosaurs.” He summons the dinosaurs from dinosaur planet with a dinosaur horn, which he gets from the dinosaur horn store (duh). Having a child author also results in some political incorrectness. Axe Cop refuses to let girls on his team because all girls are dumb (except Best Fairy Ever) and can’t fight, which he proves by smacking them upside the head with his axe. Axe Cop doesn’t even have time for women in his personal life because he’s married to his job, which he explains in a fan mail Q&A segment called “Ask Axe Cop” (video below).

“Axe Cop is one of the most creative, hilarious and naturally viral comic properties to emerge in the last decade,” said development head, Nick Weidenfeld. “I’ve hoped someone would adapt Axe Cop for television for years and couldn’t be happier that we get to be that someone. Axe Cop has all the makings of an iconic animated series and it will help set the tone for Fox’s new late-prime Saturday animation lineup.”

Production studio Stoopid Monkey (Robot Chicken) announced that they’re teaming up with their former colleagues at Buddy System Studios (MAD). The first project of the newly-formed Stoopid Buddy Stoodios will be Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special, a supersized 22-minute long episode featuring super heroes and villains from the DC Universe.

The voice cast will include Seth Green as Batman, Robin and Aquaman; Paul Reubens as the Riddler; Neil Patrick Harris as Two-Face, Alfred Molina as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern; Megan Fox as Lois Lane; and Breckin Meyer as Superman. Additional voice cast includes Abe Benrubi, Alex Borstein, Clare Grant, Tara Strong, Senreich, Tom Root and Zeb Wells.

“Having been raised on DC Comics and the Super Friends vs. Legion of Doom, it’s exciting to tell a whole Robot Chicken story within this awesome universe,” said Robot Chicken creator Seth Green.

“We’ve been working with (DC Entertainment chief creative officer) Geoff Johns for over 15 years, so playing together on this special only made it more fun to work in the worlds we all love so dearly,” added co-creator Matthew Senreich.

“Working with Seth and Matthew and the rest of the Robot Chicken crew has always been nothing short of insanity over the years,” said Johns. “DC, Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim together — how could anyone resist?”

Activision has confirmed the release of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse, which was leaked on Amazon. The game is based on the award-winning episode “Road to the Multiverse” in which Brain and Stewie travel to parallel universes featuring a variety of different animation techniques and styles including: 2D, claymation, Flintstones, Disney, and even live action.

“Fans of Family Guy will love that we’ve taken some of the series’ most iconic and memorable moments and built them into an impressive and uncensored video game,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President, Activision. “Anyone who watches the show will appreciate how much we have adhered to its rich and twisted universe and characters.”

The Walking Dead Social Game was originally scheduled for release in April but it’s been pushed back indefinitely while the development team fine tunes it.

“I know there’s a lot of interest in the answer to this one. To be frank, we got excited about the project during development and started adding more features, which extended the development timeline,” explains Mac McKean, AMC’s SVP for Digital Media, on the AMC website. “While we don’t have an exact date yet, I can tell you that the game is about to enter a closed testing phase in limited areas in the next couple weeks. The global public launch will be sometime later. We’ll know better exactly when a worldwide launch will happen once we’ve gotten some results from this more intensive testing period. When we have information to share we’ll keep the Facebook group and The Walking Dead blog up-to-date.”

The game will be accessible to a facebook audience while staying true to the series. That includes featuring weapons like Shane’s semi-automatic, Rick’s Python, Glenn’s machete, and Andrea’s screwdriver. Weapons like the shotgun can also double as a bludgeon. Of course, the real violence will be dished out by the zombies. “We’re going to have zombie feasts, so when you die you’re going to get eviscerated,” says Studio Director Stephen Griffin. “As a player, if you do well, you’ll get the decapitations and so forth. But I don’t think it is gratuitous. We think it serves a purpose to making it feel more like the show.”

It will launch with more content than other facebook games have after a year and continue to be updated when the game goes live. “It’s free to play,” assures McKean. “But similar to many Facebook games out there, you can buy premium items like energy and weapons using Facebook Credits.”

“Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” has a new catchphrase. “No one dies,” he vows but that doesn’t mean no one gets hurt.

In Amazing Spider-Man #685, he teams up with Silver Sable to stop Doctor Octopus from launching rockets that will supposedly fix the ozone (see: Spider-Man VS Al Gore). When Silver Sable blows up the factory, Spider-man chastises her but then proceeds to literally rip the Rhino a new one. “I said ‘no one dies’…” Spidey tells his teammate. “…didn’t say we couldn’t mess ‘em up.”

Things get even darker when they interrogate Sandman for the next location. Silver Sable pours acid on Sandman but he’s sure Spidey is too much of a boy scout to let her kill him. “I think six billion lives are on the line! And if I have to waterboard you–” Spider-Man yells. “–or acidboard you to save them– I’ll do it! Don’t think I won’t!” Sandman doesn’t call his bluff, which it was (for now at least). “I have changed. But not that much,” Spider-Man thinks. “Not Yet.”

Spidey’s hunch turns out to be right. The rockets are really designed to destroy the ozone, but they get to the next base too late to stop the launch. The lesson seems to be torture works, you just have to use it more and faster to get fresh intel. Uncle Ben must be rolling over in his grave.

The only thing Power Girl is known for more than her large breasts is the hole in her costume that displays them.

Affectionately known as the boob window, it’s been the source of many jokes over the years. To the point where Power Girl herself was forced to address it.

In JSA: Classified #2, Power Girl tells Superman:

People always ask me why I have this hole right here. They think I’m showing off… or just being lewd. But the first time I made this costume, I wanted to have a symbol like you. I just… I couldn’t think of anything. I thought, eventually, I’d figure it out. And close the hole. But I haven’t.

Power Girl debuts a new costume sans boob window in World’s Finest #1, but it’s not the first time she has covered up. Power Girl got downright uppity after DC Comics hired its first female publisher, Jenette Kahn. In All-Star Comics #64 the boob window was closed but without a symbol. This newly empowered girl accused Star Spangled Kid of being a “little chauvinist piglet” for suggesting she use a “Superman emblem with a P instead of an S!”

Writer Gerry Conway told Alter Ego:

Actually, closing the circle on Power Girl’s costume was [publisher] Jenette Kahn’s idea. She felt it was sexist, and she was probably right. I doubt Wally would have had such qualms, given his taste for ill-clad buxom babes. (A taste I share, by the way, and another reason why this former Catholic boy will probably burn in hell.)

All hope is not lost. Despite her outward appearance, Power Girl is still very sexual. She tells Huntress that she do whatever it takes to get home. “Even if I have to break seven of the ten commandments to do it,” she declares. That apparently includes sleeping with Mr. Terrific for parts to power her portal (pun intended).

There’s still plenty of fanservice too. Before donning her new costume Power Girl’s civilian clothes are torn to shreds. Huntress suggests she will be arrested for indecent exposure to which PG replies, “Prude.” The cover for World’s Finest #2 (pictured left) even features DC Universe’s first donkey punch! Power Girl is on all fours while the Irradiated Man blasts her in the back of the head. The previous issue ended with the villain asking, “Did you not like my touch, woman?”

The real victim in all of this is cosplay, which was basically invented for characters like Power Girl. These girls will grow up expecting you to look them in the eye!

Avengers VS X-Men pits the two most powerful superhero teams against each other so you’d think they would be pretty evenly matched but it’s been suspiciously one-sided. Perhaps to get fans excited for the new Avengers movie.

In Avengers Vs. X-Men: Versus #1, Namor (king of the oceans) loses to the Thing (who breathes air) in the water!!! He’s defeated by being pinned to the ground!? Meanwhile, Magneto (the master of magnetism) loses to Iron Man. Granted Tony switches to a non-metallic suit but Magneto can control all the any metal including the iron in your blood! Instead, they slug it out until Magneto senses the destruction of a planet by the coming Phoenix. He gives up because the fight is inconsequential in the scheme of things.

Uncanny X-Men #11, Red Hulk defeats Juggernaut-Colossus (two powerhouses in one) when Piotr gets worried about destroying his home and depowers to plain old Colossus. WTF! He could have just knocked the Hulk to a safe distance. Imagine if Superman gave up every time a super villain attacked Metropolis.

Upcoming bouts:

In Uncanny X-Men #12, Namor and Thing have a rematch. Based on the cover it appears to be on land, which would seem to put Namor at an even greater disadvantage but I wouldn’t be surprised if they “let” him win this time and call it even.

In Avengers Vs. X-Men: Versus #2, Captain America is matched up with Gambit. There’s no way the leader of the Avengers is going to lose. The second match is a gimme. Spider-Man is matched up with Juggernaut-Colossus!? (nuff said) It seems like the only Avengers who will get beaten are new members and even than they’ll have to be severely outmatched. It just goes to show you that mutants really are feared and hated.
