But that’s all what valve are planning on doing in the coming year. This week however, they still managed to put out an update, featuring a brand new user created item The Conquistador. But valve didn’t stop there. They also patched TF2, adding in a new community made item, Aladdin’s Private Reserve. But it was in the Beta version of TF2 that the big changes happened. Both the heavy and the spy get nerfs that don’t have people calling out injustice, but actually smiling with intrigue.

Then you’ve got gamingheads taking pre-orders for the medic statue. Yes we talked about the statue before, but now you can actually get hold of one, instead of just pining over valve copy. Announced this week was the official line up for the next Communities vs Pro event. The apply named Cold War, will be happening on February the 11th. The TF2Maps.net item we mentioned last week has finally been placed into the game. The Mappers Medallion is now not only in the game, but up for grabs for the winners of their latest contest, any previous winners and if the stories prove to be true everyone who entered the Artpass contest. That’s a bucket load of winners.

Meanwhile, over in the world of eXtelevision, eXtine has started his own Video show about the state of the game and the US competitive scene. He’s managed to take the considerable feedback he received from his first green-screen experiment and made this second episode into something very interesting. The still as-yet untitled, “Show with no name” is well worth checking out.

The TF2CSA (Competitive South Africa) currently have sign ups open for their first, foundry Cup. The odds of winning are still pretty good, so if your ping to this corner of the world is low enough sign up for fame and glory.

It seems like this show is all about competitions and prizes. Facepunch are hosting a series of quick draw modding competitions. In this first one they asked teams of two (see link for random team names) people to make an item for TF2 in the theme of “Retro futureistic”. If steam punk is your thing keep tabs on this site. If you want to give it a go yourself take heed of Pogo’s Resources and Tutorials post.

In the space of a just over a year MaxOfS2D’s YouTube site has seen well over 50 animations. He seemingly posts everything that comes into his mind; ranging from concept tests, to “how-to use 3ds Max” (his weapon of choice),  to random moments captured in GMod, all the way through to a dancing lady succubus pyro.

We asked you at the beginning of 2012 to come up with questions for Max and you certainly obliged us. We had more than 160 entrants, most of which were polite enough to speak aloud. We took 20 of the best (one was edited out) and put them to Max in this interview. Our thanks to everyone who entered, the 20 finalists bagging themselves a KritzKast Lo-Fi Longwave hat.

This week we all got up at 6am to do this extra long episode. Actually, only one of us did that. WM from Oz fortress fame, joined us this week. We also wanted to make you guys aware of an update to the white list generator, that lets you have multiple presets and a shiny search bar. Then we have our last time, the TF2Maps.net are hosting their latest Map making Contest. The Dynamic Payload Contest. This one is going to be good.

The good news for those seeking to wear shorts or thongs is that Valve has decided that winter is over already. As such they have called back all the Winter Crates, but as our guest host Ruskeydoo found out, they’ve not been replaced with normal crates. I sense an update to the update soon.

In the meantime we have a couple of YouTube videos for you. The Booty O’Saxton Hale! tells a Demoman’s story though in-game footage, a Machinima style little used with TF2 given the options of SourceFX and Gmod.

The second video is 51 seconds of frags in the Super 8 style of early colour cinema with a strolling sound track. Ain’t no Sunshine – Murder has never sounded so relaxed.

The geek art of CGHUB artist, SLiD3, depicts the cast of TF2 as super-deformed miniture characters and lends our conversation to making a collectable series of toys.

Finally John Patrick Lowrie is cornered at MagFest2012 and made to read a letter from Red Sniper to MLP’s Princess Celestia.

Instead people are more excited by the fact that 2 new items have made their way into TF2. Both of which are associated with trine 2. Luckily, the hack isn’t the only piece of news this week, or we would be crying all through the show. TF2 also got 3 new promo items directly from Saints row the third. Not to mention a few changes to make thing run smoother.

Speaking of running smoother, the Beta also got a good fix this week. bringing it up to date with recently changes to the main game and also testing out new code that should make the game run smoother on older machines.

But its not just valve that have been making heads lines this week. ETF2L started its highlander league and agro got to have a quick shoutcast. We also followed eXtine into a comic book store as he picked up the copy of “The Scarface” and had it signed by valve employees

Plus this week was the week that teamfortress.tv launched, a new site showcasing some of the best live streams of Pro TF2 players…….and 1 fascinating TF2 podkast.

Lastly, we couldn’t let the launch of Skyrim pass without mentioning this graphics comparison sent to us from a fan.

November signals the end of Halloween and her full moon event but not before we give our final verdict on Monoculous and Valve put up the high rez art work for all to abuse. Speaking of art in November, there’s to be an early signing of The Sacrifice taking place in Portland, Oregon.

This week we’ll see the first matches of the ETF2L Highlander League, Both Agro and Chronos will be competing. Sadly though, Agro won’t get to play in his brand new and bubbly unusual VR goggles.  But it could be worse, he could be made to play TF2 in a bucket.

Plus, to keep the horror flowing, Valve have given us another comic depicting the origins of Monoculus. Creep under your covers, get out the torch and read it with care. For surely it’s too late we cry, “too late!” To include these sheets in the forthcoming comic collections of Dark Horse.

This weeks video of the week (no this isn’t a new section, its just we really like this video and think it should be viewed by all) shows off what could be done with all the footage valve has made for “meet the videos”. Could this video spark valve into kick starting its TF2 TV series project?

We also ask ourselves, “why do 30% of TF2 players buy something in the store, when most F2P games only get about 2-3%?” Gabe revealed this amazing stat in a recent interview. Maybe we think we know, maybe.

Lastly Pat’s bloody sack conceals a mash-up voice clip, HHH’s head and icon replacements. All provided by you, the haunting audience.

Valve have been busy with updates and fixes to try and make TF2 stable. They also set the Lo-Fi to be usable in crafting, though why you’d want to craft away one of the most exclusive hats in the game is beyond us.

Ozfortress have their sixth winter league grand final this week, with much more to follow in the next couple of months. They’ve also a battle of the sexes with Male vs Female and the World’s first 4v4 KotH event (sneak peak at the poster) to round off the year.

Asian Fortress is accepting sign ups for their two day Highlander-Saxton Hale Halloween event. Eric (Team ERG) and Agro (KritzKast: Distinguished Ducks) face off in the build up to the ETF2L Highlander League, forcing Chronos to pick sides and everyone else to place bets.

Deep breath, we’re nearly there, told you it was a big update. There’s a bunch of new customisable objects for you to decorate; a pin, a photo tag, a clan badge and a ruddy great sign on a stick (at great personal expense we may add). Gullywash the comp map that’s been in pretty much every 6v6 match since the dawn of TF2 time has finally been recognised and included in the game. Also the High-5 taunt we talked about last week is finally here.

We let Ruskeydoo loose on Bay Raitt’s blog post, discover sneak peek pictures of the TF2 toys and coo over the Football Manager 2012 and Dungeon Defenders crossover items.

If glimpses of Gullywash are setting your comp blood to boil, there’s good news in the form of the ETF2L Highlander who have opened their doors to sign-ups this week. Epsilon Esports does work for charity in their TF2 marathon and the TF2 Mixup Website is revealed.

I remember when we first talked about NerfNow. It was back in 2008, a series of 18 pages telling the story of a kidnapped engineer and her heroic rescue. There were very few words in the images. Yet the art was enough to carry the messages of shared struggle, a team banding together, individual battles and unrequited love.

Since those heady days, creator Josue Pereira, has diversified his content into many different games and genres. He now frequently appears, as a tentacle monster, in his own drawings choosing to talk directly with his Nerfers. His core remains true to TF2 so we thought it was about time we gave this purple Brazilian tentacle his own interview.

This time we decided to ask our audience for questions to ask Jo. We were expecting a few hundred e-mails. Instead we received over one thousand. Just for having your question read out you’d get a KritzKast Lo-Fi Longwave hat (assuming you don’t already have one) but for one incredibly lucky winner the prize was to have their question made into a NerfNow comic strip.

Valve have released a massive update to TF2 beta, not only bringing the client up to date with the full game but also releasing a series of modifications to current weapons.

The man behind the voice of the Sniper, John Patrick Lowrie has a written a book. We’ve spoken about it before on the show but now it’s on amazon and all the classes felt they needed to review it too.  With comments like this one from the Heavy, “Book is heavy so I throw at spy.” Even if you don’t get to read the book, reading about reading the book is brilliant fun too.

We like the guys over at TF2KillCams.com and we love the competition they ran. Agro will certainly never fully be able to cast from his mind the image the winner sent in.

EOReality totally came through for us with servers for the Lo-Fi Offclass Cup. The event happened last weekend and the final between Crab People and YoYo Tech can be watched courtesy of VanillaTV. Agro joined Comedian and event organiser, Trent (PubComp) to cast the matches.
