Sony PSP Phone!

2009-06-30T01:28:00.000-07:00

There’s been plenty of speculation for a really really long time now that Sony would eventually develop a PSP mobile handset. From rumors going around to being shot down every now and again, it seems like there’s some clarity on the situation according to a new report that’s out. At E3 this year, Sony unveiled their latest version of the PSP handheld gaming device they’re calling the PSP Go. According to reports, Nikkei, which just happens to a rather large media company from Japan, has news that Sony amalgamating their handheld gaming device with a mobile phone is true.Although the source is quite reliable, they haven’t really confirmed the information but have mentioned that Sony intends to compete with the iPhone and its gaming development. Of course this could also just mean they intend to develop a new mobile handset with better gaming functionality for motion gaming and then again I’d personally like to believe there’s a PSP Mobile in the works.

World's Fastest 32GB SDHC Card to arrive in August

2009-06-29T00:25:00.000-07:00

SanDisk has introduced the fastest 32GB SDHC card - at up to 30 megabytes per second (MB/s) read and write speeds - in the market."The market for entry to mid-level DSLR cameras is growing, and SDHC is becoming the de-facto card format for these devices," said Susan Park, director, retail product marketing, SanDisk."Our card's 32GB of storage and up to 30MB/s read & write speeds enable DSLR users to shoot without worrying about storage or speed limitations. SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards provide consumers with a more enjoyable user experience, letting them focus on what is really important – the images that they are capturing."

The SanDisk Extreme SDHC card offers maximum data-transfer rates, giving consumers a memory card fast enough to unlock the full capabilities of their DSLRs. It adheres to the SD Association's new Class 10 specification, which exceeds requirement for today's high definition (AVCHD) video recording. The card offers a sustained write speed fast enough to ensure high-definition video recording and capacity capable of storing 160 minutes of full HD 1920x1080 pixels at 24Mb/s data transfer rate.

DSLR camera models like the Nikon D90 and D5000 offer consumers the ability to record HD videos, producing large files that can fill lesser-capacity cards quickly. High-megapixel DSLRs also can generate massive still images like those produced in the RAW format used by professional photographers who want to take advantage of the enhanced picture quality and flexibility that RAW allows during post production. RAW images demand up to ten times as much storage space as regular JPEG images, and when taken in rapid succession during burst mode can quickly fill smaller storage cards. The 32GB SanDisk Extreme SDHC card can store up to 2500 RAW images.

SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards are fully compatible with any camera, card reader or other device that supports SDHC cards.

The SanDisk Extreme SDHC 32GB cards will be shipping worldwide to major retailers in August. Pricing hasn't been revealed.

Sony Eyes Cellphone/Game Gear Hybrid

2009-06-28T00:20:00.000-07:00

Sony Corp is considering developing a cellphone-game gear hybrid in a bid to better compete with Apple Inc's highly popular iPod and iPhone, the Nikkei business daily said on Saturday.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment conglomerate launched its first Walkman three decades ago, dominating the portable music player market, but it has been running far behind the iPod and iPhone in recent years. Sony plans to set up a project team as early as July to develop a new product that combines functions of its portable game player and Sony Ericsson's mobile phones, the Nikkei said. Sony Ericsson is a cellphone joint venture between Sony and Sweden's Ericsson.

A growing number of game-makers including Capcom Co Ltd and Square Enix Holdings are now offering software for the iPod and iPhone to take advantage of the Apple products' popularity, posing a threat to Sony's PlayStation Portable and Nintendo Co Ltd's DS. A Sony spokesman declined to comment on the report.

Extract Text From Images!!! Free download!

2009-03-30T07:46:00.000-07:00

I am sure many times you must have fallen into a situation wherein you wanted to capture text from images but somehow couldn’t able to do that. People try various things but end up writing down everything manually through keyboard. Now there is a simple solution for this problem.
JOCR is a small freeware utility through which you can capture the image on the screen and then can easily convert the captured image to text. Believe me it’s very simple and easy to use utility. Have you ever came across a pdf document that is protected and you cannot copy text from that? Here, JOCR comes into the picture. It will simply take a kind of screenshot of that pdf document and then it will convert that screenshot (which is an image) to text. Very simple funda, right?

JOCR can capture a particular region, any window or an entire desktop. After you finish capturing the image, just click Recognize button and that’s it you are done. The conversion of image to text will start and in no time it will recognize the text within the image. JOCR automatically opens a notepad for you and you can paste the recognized text in that notepad.

Few key features of JOCR are:

Its pretty small in size – just 84 KB.
It recognizes almost 20 different languages.
It’s totally FREE to use.

Note: JOCR requires Microsoft Office 2003 or higher version installed in your machine. That’s because it recognizes various languages from Microsoft Office Document Imaging that is a part of MS Office 2003

or higher. So just make sure it’s installed in your machine.

Videos, N-Gage Games to be featured by Nokia's OVI

2009-03-25T18:51:00.000-07:00

Nokia's much-anticipated Ovi online store will feature some video offerings, although the company does not plan a more full-featured video service. The world's largest cell phone maker also plans to offer mobile games from its N-Gage gaming service through Ovi, which is set to launch in May.

N-Gage is targeted toward serious gamers.

The Ovi store will compete directly with Apple Inc's App store and others as they battle to control the emerging smartphone market. "Now that the Ovi store is coming we can put video content there," Tero Ojanpera, head of entertainment business at Nokia, said in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. "Movies will be part of the offering but this kind of a full fledged video store, that is not in our roadmap."

On some markets and in some special promotions, Nokia does offer mobile phones with movies pre-loaded. Last week, rival Samsung Electronics Co Ltd launched a service allowing some customers in Europe to buy or rent movies and TV series to download to their mobile phones. Ojanpera said Ovi users also will be able to buy titles from the gamers-focused N-Gage service, although the company would keep N-Gage as a separate sales channel. In the Ovi store it also will offer more casual games, such puzzles, which attract a wider audience. "We'll make those N-Gage games, from the discovery point of view, available through the Ovi store," said Ojanpera. "What we are trying to do with the Ovi store is, rather than having all these different channels for discovery, we'll move more and more under this Ovi brand and umbrella." Ovi will be opened globally in May. Purchasers from Ovi will have the option of paying through their mobile operator's bill in nine countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Spain. "Towards (the) end of the year you'll see us live... covering the globe in a fairly equal way," Ojanpera said.

Nokia said the Ovi store will reach some 50 million consumers when it opens, while Apple has so far sold less than 20 million iPhones. However, Apple has been more successful in getting people to pay for software downloads, despite launching its business later than Nokia. Like Apple, Nokia will give 70 percent of all download revenue to developers if consumers pay by credit card. But Ovi developers will earn less per transaction if buyers elect to pay through their mobile operators. Ojanpera said content is becoming the "key differentiator" on smartphones, and that mobile gaming is just starting to come into its own. "I think there is a lot of potential... if you look at application downloads, the games are the most downloaded," the executive said. "In the next 12 to 24 months we'll see a lot of innovation around the mobile gaming market where people are kind of realizing the potential."

Max Payne 3 announced for PC, xBox, PS3

2009-03-24T21:57:00.000-07:00

After begging to the Gods for years on end, my prayers have finally been answered. Rockstar has announced a new Max Payne game and it goes something like this:

"Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out."

And Dan Houser, Founder of Rockstar had this to say, "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

And that's about all the information we have as of now folks. If you're a bit obsessive like us, you could head over to the game's official site and stare at Max's mug till some substantial information surfaces.

The game is slated for a winter 2009 release.

New Rugged Mobile released by Samsung

2009-03-23T02:28:00.000-07:00

Samsung’s B2100 Xplorer, that was reportedly released in a few European countries and Germany very recently, may not be big on looks, but is designed to be a real beast when it comes to the elements. It’s a lower end handset without high tech features like 3G capabilities.

According to the reports, the B2100 doesn’t come equipped with an altimeter and digital compass. This makes me wonder about its name. What it does come with is US Military Standard 810F (MIL-STD-810F) certification that makes it one of the toughest headsets around. With its urethane body (same material used to make roller blades), the handset can be fully submerged underwater up to just one meter though and only up to 30 minutes. After that is anybody’s guess. It’s also shock, water, salt, fog and dust resistant compliant with both the European IP57 certification and the US Military Standard.

Other features include –
♦1.7-inch, 120 x 160 pixel, TFT LCD
♦Noise cancellation with a dedicated microphone
♦Vibration setting that makes it vibrate longer
♦Independent flashlight located on top of the device with a dedicated button
♦External memory support (micro SD)

♦GPRS/EDGE
♦Bluetooth 2.1, with A2DP
♦1.3 megapixel camera

As of now the price has still not been disclosed and of course we haven’t heard anything about the Xplorer’s possible arrival here, so stay tuned.

BSNL to launch BlackBerry Services by April

2009-03-18T08:59:00.000-07:00

State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will launch BlackBerry services by April, a top official said here Wednesday.
"We have got the required approvals from the government and will launch BlackBerry services by next month," BSNL chairman and managing director Kuldeep Goyal told reporters on the sidelines of a conference.
At present, four telecom operators - Reliance Communications, Airtel, Vodafone and Tata Teleservices - are providing BlackBerry services.
BlackBerry phones offer a host of services, including allowing users to access their e-mail on the move.
BlackBerry devices, manufactured by the Canada-based Research In Motion (RIM), had earlier come under scrutiny after Indian security agencies expressed concern that the data being transmitted through the device could not be intercepted due to the high encryption codes being used by the company.
However, Canadian Minister of of Industry Tony Clement, after a meeting with Communications Minister A. Raja in February, had said the security concerns over the BlackBerry phones had been "resolved as far as possible".

2009-03-17T01:17:00.000-07:00

A child in Ohio received second degree burns when his iPod Touch exploded in his pants and caught fire.
The child's mother is now suing Apple and 10 unnamed retail employees from the Apple Store in Kenwood, Cincinnati, Ohio, for $2,25,000.
The complaint maintains that the 'iTouch' was in the off position in the child's pant's pocket when he heard a loud pop and immediately felt a burning sensation on his leg. He immediately stood up and realized his Apple iTouch had exploded and caught on fire in his pocket. He ran to the bathroom and took off his burning pants with the assistance of a friend and found that the device had burned through his pocket and melted through his Nylon/Spandex underwear, burning his leg.

Nokia Provides Free Tool For S60 SMS Bug

We’ve been following up on the SMS Bug –the Curse of Silence that recently invaded Series 60 handsets. Just to recap, the bug, if sent by an attacker, will render messaging from the Nokia device useless.
Initially, one of the quickest ways to eradicate the nasty little virus was with a hard reset of the device which also meant saying goodbye to a lot of personal data. Nokia has however provided a new tool for this scenario that will require users to simply download and install it in their devices. This tool, according to the reports, will take care of the bug if or when your handset is attacked.

Virgin Mobile Offers Free SMS

2009-01-26T21:47:00.000-08:00

Virgin Mobile is offering its customers 200 free SMSs everyday.

Virgin Mobile customers will now be able to send 100 National as well as 100 Local; a total of 200 SMSs free daily after paying for the first 3 SMSs on each leg (National and Local respectively) to any network.

M. A. Madhusudan, Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Mobile, India said, "Our research shows that youth have a high propensity to consume mobile services and are looking for solutions that give them the flexibility to use mobile services as per their need. Youth around the country send 6 times as many SMSs and have a constant desire to connect & share with their large network of friends, peer group and family. They use SMS as an important device to lead a life of their choice; zoning people in and out from their world as and when they want to and also use it as their Secret Messaging Service (SMS). But, due to voice text pricing parity, sending SMSs are expensive and better deals are usually available only with packs or upfront commitment. However, now with our new free SMS proposition we believe that youth will take up to this medium in a big way and it will become the new voice of the youth.

This offer comes without a pack and the first three local SMSs of the day are charged at Re. 1 each and the first 3 national SMSs are charged at Rs. 1.50 each and thereafter all the SMSs sent are free.

SMSs can be sent to any number across all networks in the country.

All new subscribers and the existing subscribers who are already on the New 50 Paise STD Local tariff will get this SMS benefit by default, while the customers who are on the Old 50 Paise Local tariff can avail this benefit by recharging their account by Rs. 12.
