It has become easy to start a blog these days, but it is difficult to maintain the pace. There are some millions of the tech blogs present in the blogosphere today but only few are able to withstand itself. Merely updating the blog is not enough to withstand in the competition from the other blogs, but you also need to provide the quality content to the readers of the blog. Content is the king, one blog which has a useful content that I found was the TechCular, which is run by the Soumya Pratihari from Orissa, India.

Content

TechCular is the run by a group of eight authors. The blog was started three years ago on November, 2008 which has now a vast number of the articles on the different categories like Gadgets, Android, iPhone, iOS, Computers, Software's, Games and many more. It has not displayed the feed count any where on the blog but I have heard from the sources that it have a whooping number of the feed subscribers i.e., 55,000. You can find tutorials, How-to’s, tips, reviews about the software's and Gadgets, news and many more here. I regularly read this blog for the How-to articles, Gadgets and for the reviews about the Android apps and the smartphones.

Design and Look

It’s a know fact that a blog can’t survive without any ads, but too many ads on the blog may distract the readers readability. As I read many blogs daily through my experience, the Infolink Ads really annoys me. I don’t have any intention to click them but when I hover the mouse over the Ad links unintentionally they annoys me. TechCular is using the simple blog Theme, and you don't find the Infolink ads any where on the blog, also one thing which amazed me is that the blog is using only one Ad slot on the sidebar. I think these points are enough to point out that the blog is running with the outstanding interface.

Ranking

Alexa ranking system is used generally to know the performance of the website on the internet. I have checked the Alexa rank at the moment while writing this articles, it was 19,049, and it is an Indian registered domain so, the India rank was 1,908. The Alexa rank may vary according to the time check the link here for the latest rank.

Coming to the Google Page rank it was 5/10, this depicts how well the blog is performing on the Google search results.

Giveaways

The blog is conducting the Giveaway contests every month, high-end gadgets are given as the prizes to the Giveaway contest winners. Last month it has announced three Samsung laptops as the prizes to the winners of Giveway contest. Before that the giveaway prize was, the new tablet cum smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Note. The blog is strict about the rules of the contest, if it has found any violation of the rules then it throws the person out of the contest without any hesitation.

Suggestions

I have mentioned only the pros of this blog until now, coming to the other side of the coin there are few cons and I don’t want to represent them as the cons. I say them as the suggestions of mine to the blog where the blog needs improvements to make it better.

The is no dedicated authors page for this blog. After reading article whether it is good or bad people wants to see the authors gravatar of the current article. It happened to me many times after completed the reading of the article want to see the authors gravatar but there is not even the description about the author.
The date to the articles isn’t displayed on the homepage of the site. Sometimes I visit the blog directly to see fresh updates of the day but I feel dumb because there is no date displayed for the articles on the homepage.
It has been proved for the many blogs that Facebook Friends Recommend Plugin has driven more traffic than the recent tweets plugin on the sidebar of the site.
Recent Articles plugin and the Most Popular Articles plugin, both are necessary to make the visitor to sit on the blog for a maximum time. Instead of displaying the Most Popular Articles of the blog at the footer why not display them together with the tabs plugin on the sidebar. so, that some clutter would be reduced on the footer
The Previous and the Next links below the each article may make the new visitor to read the more articles of the blog which is absent on this blog.

Conclusion: TechCualr is a great blog the feed count itself shows the quality of the blog. The blog has the bunch of the useful articles if you need to learn the tips & tricks about using the smartphones and computers.

How to show labels besides Icons in the New Gmail

Gmail has revamped its website with the new look. Most of the users who have transferred themselves to the new Gmail look from the old look are not familiar with the new icons on the toolbar. In the old Gmail the tools on the toolbar were clearly named with labels when coming to the new look if you want to know the name of the tool you need to hover on it. There is an option in the Gmail to roll back to the old look if you are not familiar with the new look but if you love the new and want stay with the new look by getting rid of this new icons by naming them with the labels on the toolbar.

Gmail- Add labels to toolbar icons is the user style which adds the labels to the icons on the Gmail's toolbar. First you need to install the user style add-on/extension for the Firefox and chrome. Later install this user style.

After the completion of the installation of user style addon/extension install the user style. The changes takes place immediately and the labels are displayed besides the each icons in the toolbar.

Drop Attachment Files To Compose Mail Window
When you want to attach files to the mail, you have to browse them on your PC and attach them. Just drop files which you need to attach from the file location onto the compose mail window.

Undo Send
After composing mail and hit send button, immediately you got a point that is missing in the mail , it would have been familiar to enable undo send lab setting in Labs to stop sending the mail. To enable Undo Send go to Labs, search for Undo Send and enable it.

Background Send
If you have composed a big mail to send with lot of attachments to large amount of senders then you have patiently wait there until the mail has sent otherwise it avoids you to do other tasks on the mail. To avoid such things enable Background Send in the labs.

Manage if you are getting hundreds of mails per day
It is very difficult to manage to read hundreds of emails which arrive to your inbox. Here are some tips how to manage to read hundreds of emails.

Show More than 25 Conversations: To show conversations more than 25 go to Settings, search for Maximum page size and select to show 50 or 100 contacts.
Turn on Priority Inbox: Priority Inbox shows important emails which arrive your inbox into one column.
Keyboard Shortcuts: Learn keyboard shortcuts for fast navigation. pressing Shift + ? shows you the list of keyboard shortcuts in gmail.
Auto Advance: Auto advance is the gmail labs feature which shows the next conversation automatically when you delete, archive or mute the current conversation. Enable Auto Advance feature in gmail labs.

Multiple Singin accounts
If you have multiple gmail accounts it would be difficult to siginto both the accounts simultaneously within a single browser. set multiple signin in any one of your gmail account.

Desktop Notifications
Desktop notifications show the notifications when new mail or chat message have come. Desktop notifications work only in chrome browser. To enable desktop notifications go to settings, search for the desktop notification and enable them.

Create Filters
Filters manage your flow of incoming messages. With filter you can automatically label, delete, archive, star or forward your emails. You can keep yourself out of spam. To create filter go to create filter which is besides the search the web button and create according to your needs. After reading a email you need to filter such emails drop down the reply which is on the right side of the mail and select Filter messages like this.

Labels
Labels play a key role when you need to search any important emails within your gmail. Create labels and archive the important emails with the labels for further references.

Facebook ranks no.1website which is blocked by most number of organizations, if the facebook is blocked it is difficult to access the facebook. If you have subscribed to pages to watch the news feed then it could be difficult to read them without accessing the facebook. If your organisation is giving you to access gmail then you can access facebook using the gmail client.

Option 1: Gmail Gadgets
There are gmail gadgets which can be installed in gmail using the url of the gadget. There are different gadget url’s which helps you to access facebook. To install gadgets using the url go to options which is on the top right corner of the gmail window, select Labs, search for Add any gadget by URL and enable it. Then go to Gadgets in gmail settings. Add any one of the below url’s to integrate facebook into gmail.

I am the great fan of the facebook each and every minute while I am online I wish to be logged into facebook. Gmail is the email service which is used by the vast number of users around the world. How to Import and Export Contacts in Gmail

If you have two gmail accounts and you want to export all contacts from one gmail account to other gmail account or you want to import all your gmail contacts to your yahoo account it takes just few minutes to complete the task. It is very difficult to export all your facebook email contacts to other account but it is a very simple task to import or export all gmail contacts. There are two ways to import/export all your gmail contacts.

Method 1: Using gmail

1.Login to your gmail account and go to contacts tab in the top left corner or click here to navigate to contacts in the gmail.

2.Drop down ‘More actions’ menu.

3.Select import or export contacts.

If you want to import contacts to your current account you need to have a copy of list of contacts in .csv file format.

How to Synchronize Your Entire Firefox Browser Settings?

Browser settings synchronization is the option which was first implemented in the chrome browser and now firefox 4 has also implemented this feature.

Why You have to synchronize the firefox browser Settings?

#1. If you want all the browser settings like cookies, history, add-ons, Tab Sessions to synchronize between home and office, So, that you increase the productivity.

#2. If you are a user who want access the similar browser settings of the home computer to your Android Phone or iPhone device. Then this synchronization feature is the better option.

How to Synchronize the Firefox Browser Settings?

1.Go to Tools –> Options, select the sync tab and hit Set Up Firefox Sync button.

2.In the next window hit Create a New Account button for the users who doesn’t have the firefox sync account or hit Connect button below for the users who have the firefox sync account.

3.Enter the account details for creating the sync account, later agree to the Terms of Service and hit the next button at the bottom right corner.

Additional Features Included in the Firefox 4 Compared to Firefox 3.6

After the releases of 12 beta versions of the Firefox 4 the final version of the firefox 4 is released and it is a hit. Millions of downloads are made in a single day. Some unique features in the firefox 4 were made making it outstanding to the previous versions of the firefox browsers. The speed and navigation of the browser is fast.There are additionally some features which are included in the firefox 4 compared to firefox 3.6.

Tab Groups

With the tab groups you can create the custom tab groups. This feature was not present in the firefox 3.6, to include this feature you need to install add-on like Tab Groups Manager, Group/Sort tabs. With this feature you can avoid messing up when you open large number of the tabs.

Firefox Synchronization

With the firefox synchronization you can synchronize the entire firefox settings. This is useful while you want to have all the bookmarks, cookies, history and settings in the multiple computers. This feature is absent in the firefox 3.6 and if you want to synchronize the entire firefox you need to install the Firefox Sync add-on.

Add-ons Manager in a New Tab:

In all the previous versions of the firefox the add-ons manager is opened in the popup window but in firefox 4 the add-ons manager dialog window is opened in the new tab.

No Session Manager Restore Notification

If you close the opened session the present version of the firefox doesn’t show you any warning box to save and quit the session. It simply saves the session again when you want to restore the session go to History—> Restore Previous Session to restore the previous saved session. If you accidentally close any tab or window reopen it by going to History menu.

HTML5

This is advanced HTML language . With HTML5 you don’t need to install any additional plugins for graphic and animation content. The video and audio players are integrated in it and you no longer needed to install the flash player plugins. This HTML 5 feature was absent in the firefox 3.6 version.

Open Add-ons Manager Dialog as a Popup Instead of Opening in a New Tab in Firefox 4

Firefox 4 got some changes compared to Firefox 3.6. In firefox 3.6 when you open a add-on manager dialog box it popups. There is change made to firefox 4 regarding this popup add-on manager window, it opens in a new tab in firefox 4. To say I didn't like this change in firefox 4, I wish I want the dialogue box should open as a popup window.

When you install the Add-ons Manager Dialog for Firefox 4 add-on you no longer can open the add-on manager dialog box in a new tab. The add-on manger dialogue window popups after the installation of this add-on. This add-on is in experimental stage, means it is reviewed by the firefox add-on editor and may have some bugs in it. As per my experience after using it I didn’t find any bugs in it.

Search Google Without Closing the Current Viewing Tab in Chrome

While you are in the chrome tab reading a webpage and if you need to search a keyword through the google search then you have to open a new tab, navigate to google website and search for the results to the keyword. At this process your many get distracted while reading the important page on the current tab.

Google quick search extension for chrome makes you to search the google website anywhere on the chrome browser. After installing this extension you can see the extensions favicon on the top right corner of the browser. Just hit it, google search box popups, if you need any google search, type the keyword and hit search button. The results of the search are shown in the popup box itself.

This extension is useful for only viewing the google results. You can’t open the links in the new tab. If you click the link of the google results the page is shown in the extension box itself and you can not navigate back after the link page is opened.

The windows operating system have shutdown, logoff and restart functions in the start menu. If you have these options in the windows system tray, you can turnoff or logoff computer instantly. There is tool called iPower which sits in the system tray and gives you the options to shutdown, restart and logoff from there itself.

5 Chrome Extensions Which Enhance YouTube Video Experience

By default Youtube gives you very low video viewing experience. If you enlarge the video in youtube it fits entire screen giving you no way to view related videos and comments of the video. Watch the youtube videos in google chrome which gives you better options to enhance your video viewing experience through its extensions. The following are greater extensions for youtube videos according to my experience.

Auto HD for Youtube: The youtube video which you are viewing may have different video quality formats like 240P, 360P, 480P, 720HD. The video formats greater 480P are HD videos. By default when you play the video the low quality video plays, if you install this extension the video plays in HD if there is HD format for the video.

Mouse over Youtube thumbnails plays video: This extension gives you the fast navigation to the many videos in the window. When you hover the mouse pointer over the thumbnail of the video, the video of the thumbnail plays in the top right corner of the window.

Popout for YouTube: With this extension installed, the video can be extracted from the web page and can be viewed in the other window which plays like a video player. There is pop out button at the top right corner of the flash player of the video, hit the button to extract the video to play as video player.

Window Expander For YouTube: This extension plays the video in the entire browser window avoiding the playing the video on the entire screen. After installing this extension there is a expander button of this extension at address bar, each time when you hit this button the video which is currently playing in the window expands and fits the browser size.

Smart Video Enlarger for YT: This extension is a special extension and one of the best extension when compared to all the above extensions. When you install this extension and play any video the video automatically fits the size of the browser window. If you resize the browser the video also gets resized. While watching the video you can see the comments and related videos of the window.

I recommend not to install all the above extensions, but what I say is test all the extensions and choose one which suits you the best.

Chat From Different Accounts at One Place

Now various accounts like facebook, gmail, yahoo mail, MSN have integrated Instant messenger to chat with the users who are online. If out to chat with the user who is online you need to go to the logged-in account and chat with them. If you are reading a webpage and come across a phrase which you need to know information about it then you have to open a new tab, enter desired web portal address to search and enter the phrase. The process is cumbersome. In chrome browser you can set only one default right click search engine option. If need to search in the website other that in the default right click search option, you need to open a specified website and search for it.

Context menu Search is the chrome extension which gives approximately 40 option like google, bing, twitter, youtube, metacafe, wikipedia, facebook, wolfram alpha and many more to search from the right-click of the web page. If one the portal which you need is not there then you can list it manually to the right-click options.

In Youtube videos are embedded in the webpage and you have to watch the videos there itself. If you want leave the page and watch the video you have to go to full screen mode. There could some computer tutorials in the youtube which you need to implement the tutorial by keeping the video side by. If the video is in the web page it could be difficult to watch video along side with implementing it. Windows by default have only one clipboard. Everything you copy that is saved to that clipboard. There are clipboard managers which show you clipboard history as one. Clipboards is the clipboard manager which is divided into multiple clipboards. When you install this tool the tool sits in the system tray and if you click the icon it shows 9 clipboards. Select one and then the items are saved into the specified clipboard.

While you are at work and if you need to navigate to the other clipboard without going to the tray icon there are keyboard shortcuts to change the clipboards. Alt+1 for clipboard1, Alt+2 for clipboard2 …….and last one Alt+9 for clipboard9. The shortcuts can be configured, instead of Alt, you can use Ctrl by going to the configure in the clipboards tool.
