Here we go, back into the swing of things. I think I’m going to cut back to a weekly strip though. I know, you’re all crushed, but although I got all excited about starting the comic back up, it has made me realize that I have a ton of other projects on the back-burner that are more important than this. But I don’t want to let it go, so I’m paring back to a Monday schedule. Wish me luck.

If you remember (and you can read the archives if you don’t) we’re in the middle of a storyline where the stikfas are competing through a series of reality shows.

So technically this is going out on Friday, so it’s on time. It’s the second and last comic about my appearance on the podcast WarRocketAjax. I figured Matt Wilson should also have a chance to appear as a stikfas. The stikfas don’t look much like them, but I feel I’ve caught their essences.

Oh, and for the record, Monday’s comic included pictures from the National Archives and Library of Congress. Today’s comic includes a picture of a shack by the unfortunately-named swanksalot and one of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange by SiokSiok. These individuals have offered up their pictures under condition that I attribute them, which I did, and that I offer others to remix and reuse my resulting image.

Next week I’ll try to get back to the current storyline. Such as it is.

This was the story that I told Chris Sims and Matt Wilson after we finished recording this week’s edition of their podcast War Rocket Ajax. It was really cool, but I was definitely out of my element. As some of you will know, I’m not the best extemporaneous speaker and I was terrified of butting in at the wrong time and breaking up the flow of the show. It taped on Thursday, so I’m finally getting over the feelings that I screwed up and focusing on regret over what I forgot to say.

One thing I meant to say:

“I’m calling it now: the girl’s basketball coach that appears to be saving the day in Funky Winkerbean is going to turn out to be a Nazi war criminal. She has brought hope to the Funkyverse and that will never be tolerated.”

But in the end I had fun, and I still can’t get the image of D-Man singing the scat portions of  Just a Gigolo out of my head.

Anyway, if anyone has come here based on my ham-fisted plugs on the show, welcome. There’s a big button on the left with a link to an intro page. It may help. I’ve been remiss in updating for a while, but now I should be back on either a MWF or MF schedule. I do still have a day job. And if you look through the previous comics, you’ll notice that we’re in the middle of a storyline. I’ll get back to that soon, but for now, I have to figure out where my image files are and where my Doug stikfas is. Yes, the only one I lost in the long hiatus is the main character. The yellow stikfas above is a replacement that I cobbled together today and while I could write it off as a costume redesign, I’d feel the need to have a sub-plot to show how it was caused by a clone created by the Jackal punching the Source Wall and nobody wants that.

I’m not sure where this joke came from. Honestly. I’ve been going through the backlog of comics, up to now, and this was the next one. I’m still glad not to have a commute though.
Also, I’m almost out of backlogged comics, so I’ll have to get back to creating new ones. That’ll be weird.

OK, this is so messed up, I had to share.  I’m not going to link you directly to the website, but I’ll link you to the site I learned about it from. If you want to stare into the abyss, you can click through. What am I obliquely referring to? Imagine being a fan of Dr. Who. Easy right? Imagine collecting souvenirs from actors on the show. I wouldn’t be willing to burn the calories to do that, but I can imagine wanting to. Imagine creating a website to enshrine your collection of panties of the actresses who have appeared on Dr Who. More difficult, but now you don’t have to imagine.

Below is a video tour of the Lego factory, but what really blows my mind is the fact that in the factory gift shop you can buy a lego kit to build a model of  a machine that makes lego.

I’ve worked on a lot of projects where something like this happened. You probably have, too. It also highlights how shopping is much less interesting in the age of the internet. There were a lot of things I saw in Istanbul that once might have been good souvenirs, but now that I can buy most anything from Amazon.com they’re not such a big deal.
