This is another great deal. This is a piece made from antique oak wood. The tree that this material came from was felled in 1890 and milled into framing material for a barn. The barn stood until 2002 when it was sold to a salvage company tore it down and reclaimed the wood. We bought some of the wood and did a few projects this is the last one that we have, it is used as a sofa table, entry table or a stand for a T.V.  It sold for $1,745.00 in our store and I will let this one go for a mere $700.00. This is a solid cherry entertainment center that will accept up to a 42″ flat screen T.V.  This unit was in our Ramona showroom. We sold many of this style in cherry around the $5,000.00 price range.  I took it from the showroom to our factory and I have to get it out of the way so I will sell it at $700.00. Call it  Mission, Shaker or Craftsman style, the distinctive  look of square panels and no additional detail makes this style one of the most popular that we make, both in our furniture and kitchen and bath cabinets.  This 62″ long vanity is on display in our warehouse showroom and can still be purchased at the 1/2 off “moving sale” price.  It features solid oak dovetail drawers on full extension, hidden under mount Blum glides with the great soft close feature.  The doors also have the Blum soft close hinge.  The sides have finished panels as well so it can stand alone in any bathroom.  This piece has a hand rubbed stain and English wax finish.   A great look and one we are happy to duplicate for you.

Regular $959.00 reduced to $479.50 this is one from our store close out sale. This is our standard dresser, it has Blum 3/4 ext drawer guides and the drawers are our standard construction. The dresser sides are recessed panel sides and the top is solid wood. The finish is our famous hand rubbed oils with a wax seal. This is the last of the dressers from the store and now that we are showing it I expect it will sell quickly like the other furniture did. Well here we go to the holidays. We have work for November and December and nothing on the horizon for January  2010. I started to look and read the news again and from what I can tell our leaders have claimed victory over the recession. The same day my trusted lumber man Tony told me he went to twenty customers in one day and that was a record number of visits in one day. The factor that let him stop at twenty places in one day was that only 2 were open. The President promised during his campaign last October in Toledo.

We first looked at this job back in June right after the fire. The kitchen cabinets and laundry cabinets were ruined by a fire in the laundry room. The owner decided to also replace the bath cabinets. This job is being done by Building Restoration a quality company from Lemon Grove. They will handle the install and the finish on this set of cabinets, they have great personal who make our products look great. The photo shows the cabinets waiting  to go in the trailer for delivery today. The cabinets are Mission look done in alder, with Blum soft close drawer and door hardware. The fire that was started by unlicensed workers is a stark reminder of what can happen when using the wrong people.

This is another new design we have been working on. This look can be used in bathrooms as well as kitchen cabinets. Built in Ramona this bath cabinet is different than it looks. We have a tip out front on the right and left and that is where the sinks will sit. The center area has three dovetail drawers on Blum soft close drawer guides. The on the right and left of the drawers we made doors that look like drawers, something the customer asked us to do. Now we don’t like things that are not correct so on the doors that look like drawers we did a three piece glue up so we could have different grain on the 1′ center rails making the illusion of drawer even greater. This one is also hand rubbed with oils and wax. A bargain at $1,995.00

Last week I showed you this bookcase in the construction stage at our Ramona Factory Showroom. Built to last this bookcase is a collaboration in design between the customer and  us. We took one of our standard bookcase designs and worked it over. Different top trim, add drawers in the bottom, a little deeper and lets put some square blocks on the bottom and lift it up a little. Then give it a hand rubbed finish and I have a new look in our bookcase line. I know that I am supposed to be concentrating on kitchen cabinets but I love designing and building furniture. Like everything we do at Ideas In Wood, our dovetail drawers are really something special.  We take the time and go to the extra expense to produce a truly outstanding drawer.  To make our dovetail drawer we start out with 5/8″ SOLID OAK for the drawer material.  The dovetail joint is at both the front and back.  The face of the drawer is  3/4″ solid stock wood that is the main chosen wood for the project.  It can be oak, cherry, sepele, alder, maple or whatever else the customer wants yet the drawer material is always the same.  Can you see the glide?  We use a true Blum soft close, full extension glide that is mounted to the under side of the drawer so no visible hardware is seen.  This also provides a tight fit around the drawer opening with minimum gap at both sides.  A true work of art for our furniture line, primarily the Mission style and our full line of kitchen cabinets when this drawer style is chosen.  We do not skimp and use a plywood like most other manufacturers.  Take the time to examine the other product and ask questions.  If you want the look and durability of a true dovetail, why not go with the best.  This is what we make.

We have shown you this home before in Ramona, it is a rebuild from the 2007 Witch fire.   A bit of a different look for our kitchen cabinets, a more modern style.  The middle peninsula is a 15 foot long, 1. 1/2″ thick maple butcher block top with lower cabinets running the full length.  There is a full wall of floor to ceiling storage/pantry cabinets.  The customers chose natural birch for a light look a quartz counter top at the window side.   This very compact house utilized a number of under counter appliances, shown here with the washer and dryer units at the end of the cabinet run.  Now that the customers are living in the home they called us back to add an entertainment center and fire place surround book cases.

A little different look for us. This is a bookcase made from Knotty alder. The top trim is a little something extra that looks pretty dang nice. We do not do much with dentil moldings but I thought it would look good on this piece. This bookcase will have two large drawers at the bottom. It does not have the back on yet because it is about ready to be rubbed out with oil and then waxed 48 hours latter. When this is all finished and drawers installed we will grab another photo and show it to you. Time to get off the fence and place your Christmas furniture order, give me a call.

The worst day when getting  new kitchen cabinets is the day we come and fill up you house with cabinets. They seem to be everywhere. We can not leave them outside in the sun so we one way or another get them all in.This is the house in Julian we looked at a couple of weeks ago. The old kitchen cabinets have been removed and are being used in the barn as an office. Nice to see them being used for that instead of going to the dump. This house was built in 1989 and we did the cabinets then for the builder out of oak. Now the new owners have decided to have the new kitchen cabinets be made out of cherry. We will describe the cabinets in our final post after the counter tops are in.

As more and more people look for green products for kitchen cabinets and furniture we have gone to materials from renewable forests, just like everyone else. But what we are doing that they are not is developing a line of product made from antique oak. Take this photo, the wood is from trees that were cut in 1890. The wood then was used to build a barn in Kansas. Then the barn was torn down and we ended up with some of the oak. This is the epitome of going green. A high end piece like this can only be outfitted with the best. That is why we have dovetail drawers with Blum soft close drawer an door hardware. Who says that cabinet makers buy all their doors? We here a lot of it people come in and say no one builds their own doors for kitchen cabinets. As a matter of fact we did a job a while back and one of our competitors worked on the house and kept saying that their is no way that anybody builds their own doors, I suggest he would be better off to keep quiet and learn more about the competition. The parts you see in the photo are cherry raised panels and their rails. Some will be doors others in the pile will be raised panel ends for the cabinets. Looking around I see this job coming together and will see it go the customer next week.

Time to move them out this is the set of maple cabinets from yesterday that we showed you. The Ramona remodel we spoke of is ready for them. We did not get the kitchen cabinets oh well. The bathrooms were a very nice little job. When we deliver finished cabinets we take a lot of extra care. The key is to not screw up the finish, unfinished cabinets are a little less worrisome you can sand out scratches. The system we have used through the years is a blanket wrap with shrink wrap. It is by far the best and most cost effective,also it is a very green approach to the job. The big box finished cabinets come in cardboard that is thrown into the job site dumpster for the landfill. Very waste full the only thing going to trash fom us is the shrink wrap and most of the time it ends up at the recycle center.

Maple cabinets are some of the most durable cabinets made by us. This set has just come back from the finish shop that we use and we thought you might like to see one. The doors and drawer fronts are from Decorative Specialties “Malibu”. The cabinets were finished with a light chestnut and a dark glazing very nice look. The cabinets made in Ramona Ca. have maple interiors, dovetail drawers, Blum soft close drawer glides and soft close hinges. This bath cabinet along with 9 other cabinets are going to a Ramona remodel of a master and guest bath. Hey give us a call, Lynn is ready to come out and get you started.

This weekend at the factory showroom it was a busy place. While we have been working real hard to find new business we also have continued to work on the design center. Our furniture is almost always done with a hand rubbed finish but most of the sets of kitchen cabinets built in our Ramona shop get a sprayed on finish in at the job site. The paint Company that we use came by on Saturday to spray out the rustic alder display. We put a chestnut on the alder and it looks good. Yesterday the granite  “Saint Cecelia” was put on the display. The photo shows it all very nicely. We are up and running .

In this set of kitchen cabinets built in our Ramona shop we have lots of extras.  The lower cabinet pull outs are a great use of space and very convenient.  We use Blum full extension glides, mounted under the drawer so they are invisible and they feature a soft, slow close.  You can now see everything that you have stored on these shelves.  Our customers tell us they actually use so  many more of their kitchen specialty pans, trays, and baking dishes since (1) they can see them and (2) they are so easy to get to.  The drawers shown are our standard birch drawer box with the same Blum full extension glides and soft close.  This means you can never slam your drawers again yet with a quick bump they close (all the way) by themselves.   No more running into open cabinets.  Made with pride in our Ramona, CA  shop these drawers, like everything we make, will last for many, many carefree years. 

This is a completed remodel with new kitchen cabinets, and master bath cabinets. Not in Ramona but in the mountains to the east up in Julian. The owner worked for us and did most of it himself. We built the cabinets and he had some help in the install. The cabinets are done with a Mission Style door standard drawers with Blum soft close hardware and a Blum soft close hinge. The cabinets are loaded with pullout trays. The finish is a hand rubbed oil with a medium color and the a couple of coats of wax. The counter tops are quartz with a tile back splash and the place looks great. Well done Arvid
