It didn't end in the Roman coliseums. Christians are still being persecuted: fired from jobs, thrown out of homes, beaten and even martyred for their faith. But we can help. We can be their advocates before government authorities and before the throne of Grace.

Be sure to join with us on Sunday, November 8th, for a special prayer time to intercede on their behalf. Wouldn't you want people praying for you if you were in their shoes?

But you can help! Sunday, October 11th is World Hunger Sunday, and to encourage a healthy habit of giving to the needy KHBC is once again holding a ‘soup’-er fundraiser. Immediately after worship, come down to the fellowship hall for a no-frills lunch of soup and crackers. The meal is free, but a collection will be taken towards hunger relief projects in the US and around the globe.

Everything collected on the 11th will be forwarded to the SBC World Hunger Fund. Since its inception 35 years ago, Southern Baptists have given nearly $25 million through the fund. Your contribution will help both you and someone else sleep a little easier!

Dear Hope

Within three decades of Christ's resurrection, big changes were going on in His church. One of the good things was the brash, rough disciple Peter had matured to a pastoral, wise Apostle. His wisdom and caring shine through the first of his two recorded letters, sent to Christians just beginning to experience persecution in ancient Rome.

His words of hope were valuable to them then, and are to us still today. Join us as Pastor Keith walks us through this letter to uncover spiritual truths to help us live victoriously in the 21st century.

The Southside Fall Festival may be over, but the fun's not! The KHBC family will celebrate the advent of Autumn with our annual Harvest Party. Come out to the farm for hayrides, horseback rides, a bonfire (with s'mores, of course), and plenty more on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4 between 3-8 p.m.

Friends and guests are welcome. For location and directions, please call the church office. Remember, parking will be limited so carpooling is a MUST! The driveway will be reserved for parking for senior adults and those with mobility limitations.

BQF

Run locally here in St.Joe by Midland Ministries, Bible Quiz Fellowship is "competition with a purpose," a venue for young people ages 11-19 to memorize God's Word. The 2009-2010 Bible Quiz Fellowship season is about to begin, and that means KHBC will once again be overrun for monthly and regional events the 1st Saturday of every month, October through March. This year's national competition will be held in Minneapolis, MN.

Please be in prayer for this year's events. BQF's statement of purpose says that the goal is for young people to learn teamwork, grow spiritually, learn and understand great truths of the Bible, and in so doing prepare themselves to live lives that honor the Lord. Ask that KHBC be a blessing to them and that their lives would be changed as they "hide God's word in their hearts" (Psalm 119.11).

A Good Testimony

Sunday, October 11th, we will once again see adults and children follow the Lord's example by making a public testimony of their faith through baptism.

If you're made the decision to become a Christian but have never been immersed as a public profession of your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you're welcome to do so on that day as well. Please discuss this with the pastor or one of the elders between now and October 3rd if you'd like to participate.

"We have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life."
- Romans 6.4

Discipleship

For Christians, to be a disciple is not optional. The call to follow Christ is the same as the call to discipleship. What does that look like in your life?

If you'd like to be better equipped to know Him, love Him, Serve him, and in the process become more like Him, KHBC can help. Pastor Keith has introduced a new sermon series entitled "Distinguishing marks of a Disciple" on Sunday mornings. Also, on Wednesday nights beginning August 26th we're introducing a new small group on the same topic. Come and grow with us as we seek to “be imitators of God” (Ephesians 5.1), for His glory.

Call to Prayer

It isn't good, King Solomon wrote, to have zeal without knowledge (Proverbs 19.2). The Pharisees of the New Testament days fit that description (Romans 10.2), and today another people group does, too. Close to 1.5 billion people believe in Allah, honor Jesus (but merely as a human prophet, inferior to Mohamed), and have been historically resistant to the gospel. But amazingly this fastest-growing religion on the planet is seeing record numbers converting to Christianity.

Would you like to be a part of what God is doing among Muslims? Then pray with us during the Islamic month of Ramadan, August 22 - September 20. For the past eighteen years, a coalition of Christian organizations working in Middle East have called churches to pray for Muslims during this time when they believe their scriptures were revealed from heaven. Don't forget to pick up a copy of the daily prayer booklet which will inform you and guide your prayer time.

The influence of Islam is growing world-wide. You may not personally know any Muslims, but God may be pleased to use your intercession to impact these people for his kingdom. Your prayers can make a difference. Answer the call.

All Aboard with the Boomerang Express, August 2nd - 6th, traveling the Australian Outback to learn tremendous biblical truths from the life of the Apostle Peter.

Parents, grandparents, and caregivers, you are welcome to stay with your little one if needed. We also have a 'grown ups' break room where you can have a cuppa joe and a snack and meet some of our church members. Whether you come early before it's time to pick up your child, or stay all evening, we'd love a chance to get to know you. It is an honor and a privilege to us to teach your children about Christ.

All week long we'll be learning how everything in live comes back to Jesus. Don't forget, Friday night, August 7 is Family Night from 6:30-8 p.m. There'll be a video of the week's events, your kids will sing for you, and you'll get a chance to sample snacks and tour their rooms. Oh, and we'll have drawings for souvenirs and prizes. So make like a boomerang and come back for the conclusion for this great week!

A Little Elbow Grease

In the middle of June we had our quarterly Adopt-a-Highway cleanup; now it's time to look inwards. Saturday, June 27th is the annual church-wide cleanup day, and we need YOUR help!

Buckets, brooms, paint brushes and paint scrapers, a rental dumpster and all necessary supplies will be on hand. What we need is muscle power as we fix up and spruce up. The crew - including you, we hope - will be here between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you can work all or only part of that time, you'll be welcome, and you'll be helping make our facilities more welcoming to our members and guests. So see you then!
