Calling Heaven Down

According to author, speaker, & Christian apologist Jim Dennison, statistics point to a great awakening going on all over the world – the USA and England being notable exceptions. The largest explosion in global evangelization is happening now in places as diverse as Cuba, Nigeria, and the Koreas. In contrast, Dr. Dennison says the number of Americans identifying themselves as atheist/agnostic has quadrupled during the same time frame, while only 1% of college students are in a church service on any given Sunday. Will this country be passed by while the Holy Spirit moves in power elsewhere? Is God waiting on His people here to humble themselves and pray and seek His face? Will you?

Monday, October 17th, KHBC will host a prayer service for revival and spiritual awakening. This is a Saint Joseph Baptist Association event and anyone who's a part of a congregation within the association is welcome to participate. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

It's Harvest Time!

The Southside Fall Festival may be over, but the fun's not! The KHBC family will celebrate the advent of Autumn with our annual Harvest Party. Come out to the farm for hayrides, horseback rides, a bonfire (with s'mores, of course), and plenty more on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2nd. Activities will begin at 4 p.m., and dinner at 5 p.m. The main course is being provided; you need to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert. If you can bring lawn chairs and lanterns, that would be host helpful. Hayrides begin at dusk.

Friends and guests are welcome. Rob & Nancy are once again hosting this event; for location and directions, please call the church office. Remember, parking will be limited so carpooling is a MUST! The driveway will be reserved for parking for senior adults and those with mobility limitations.

. . . it's good enough for me!" If you love and remember that old classic, and others like it, you'll definitely want to join us for a good old fashioned Gospel Concert and Hymn Sing at KHBC Sunday night, September 25th. The musical duo of Mike & Jeanette Skaith will be our our special guests starting at 6:30 p.m. Afterward there'll be a time for anyone & everyone to sing to the Lord and encourage our hearts with the hymns.

So invite a friend or two - and be sure to stick around for a coffee and dessert fellowship when the concert's over. This event is open to all and the cost is a dry good, canned good, or some other non-perishable food item to help restock our food pantry. There's been a tremendous increase in people coming to KHBC for food assistance and our resources are strained. You'll have a great time and help serve a great cause.

The annual South Side Fall Festival will soon be upon us! While we certainly hope you have a great time at Hyde Park on the 16th-18th, we want to give you a special invitation to join KHBC in our parking lot immediately after the parade on Saturday the 17th (be on the lookout for our float in the parade, too). We'll be giving away free hot dogs like we do every year, we're having an open house to let guests see what KHBC has to offer, and there's more! We need helpers in every area - float builders and float riders, hot dog prep, and so on - and we need your prayers for this to be a successful outreach. Can we count on your help?

A Good Testimony

Sunday, August 28th, we will once again see believers follow the Lord's example by making a public testimony of their faith through baptism.

Baptism is a public ceremony commemorating the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ - plus, it's a step of obedience, since Jesus himself commanded it. If you're made the decision to become a Christian but have never been immersed, you're welcome to do so on that day as well. Please discuss this with the pastor ASAP if you'd like to participate on the 20th.

"We have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life." - Romans 6.4

Matthew's Messiah

Long before there was Handel's Messiah, there was Matthew's. A man transformed by Jesus wrote the first book of the New Testament, a book about how he personally and the whole world has been forever changed. Not as philosophical as John's Gospel, not as brief as Mark's, Matthew's gospel is well worth our attention. Encounter Christ with new eyes as we go through the book of Matthew on Sunday mornings.

Say YES to VBS

"Start spreadin' the news," as the song goes. What song? "New York, New York," of course! This year's Vacation Bible School is set in the Big Apple, and you're a vital part of putting it together.

Each year kids come to KHBC's VBS and have fun while learning biblical truths. Each year kids accept Christ. It's our biggest community outreach, and this year'll be no different. During the week of VBS (Aug 7-12) we'll need people in all areas - teaching & coaching, crafts & food, etc.; right now we need lots of help getting everything set up. Here are the schedule of work days:

Saturday, July 9, 12:30 - 3:30 (lunch is provided)

Wednesdays, July 13, 20, & 27, 6 - 8 p.m.

Whenever and wherever you can pitch in, your help is greatly appreciated - and will contribute to the overall goal of presenting the gospel to kids and seeing them grow in the faith. Thanks so much!

If you're going crazy trying to find that cell phone or flash drive, if you've searched in vain for that casserole dish, if you're sure you had a copy of that book but don't have a clue where it is, we might have the answer. KHBC's lost & found has lots of stuff waiting for an owner to claim. Dishes, Tupperware, and the like left behind from showers and carry-in suppers await in the church kitchen. All other items (sunglasses to Sippie cups, jackets to jewelry, etc.) are in the office area. Come by and collect what's yours!

Well, we don't plan to find out! KHBC's annual picnic at Sugar Lake is set for Sunday, June 5 starting at 3 p.m. Dinner will be dished up at 5 p.m. We've got the pavilion reserved and, if it's anything like last year, there'll be swimming, volleyball, boat rides, games and prizes, and of course lots of great food and fellowship - so be sure to join us and bring a friend! Meat and drink will be provided by the church; plan on bringing a salad, side dish, or dessert - and a lawn chair if you'd like. Speaking of deserts, don't forget to enter your best in the contest!
