Here's the text:

"For a band that's mainly known for their live performances, Kind Monitor delivers their delicate melodies just as well on recording. The lyrics here are sentimental while still being sincere -- a hard feat to pull off. Tina Shafer, the program's director, states of KM's music: "Beautiful melodies and dreamy production, unique lyrics ... what a breath of fresh air. I wanted to book them immediately." She especially likes KM's dirge-like version of Piano Man, and has asked it to be played at the show.

Videos!!! The blog was discontinued during building of kindmonitor.com, but now it's ready for business.

The first announcement of our revived blog is that the video for Cairo is posted to youtube.

"The love that got away takes a long to explain./ Talia walked miles before she'd say it: I oughta know."

Cairo video still:

A talented Manhattan-based video artist, Federico Kuhrmeier, has completed and posted an intensely minimalist video for Kind Monitor's song Cairo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TdN3f_SQgY

About the video: Our song Cairo is the audience favorite at our live shows here in NYC and since we'd like more people to hear and enjoy it in other places around the world, we made a video and are sharing it with our friends. Shot in high contrast HD, the video has a stark, Butoh-influenced feel to it and ends with a woman's shaky splattered awakening from the hold of her memory.

Here's a link to the video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TdN3f_SQgY

Check out the video for free on Youtube and pass this message on to 5 or 10 of your friends and ask them to share with their friends ... we're using the Cairo video as a way to spread the word about the digital advance release of our debut album Somebody Saves My Life Most Every Single Day (now on CDBaby and I-tunes). We'll know we're reaching new people by the # of plays of Cairo on You-tube. Help spread the word so we can come play in your city one day!

Glad to be back!
Kind Monitor

PS 4-star review of the album by Ben Westhoff: http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/kind_monitor/Content?oid=551020

Rainy day in Bushwick, rainy day songs

Hi, played a handful of tunes at Ray's fund-raiser event yesterday. Rain pushed the show from the garden to Good-bye Blue Monday, a quirky little spot in Bushwick known for cheap beer and hip live music.

Indeed, the Village Voice picked it last year as the 'best place to see emerging indie musicians before they start believing their own hype.' Of course, that begs whether or not Kind Monitor believes its own hype or not.

At any rate, we were happy to help Ray's local garden improve the quality of its soil through money earned at the live show. And Pablo Masis, a great trumpeter, joined us for the set.

High-light of the day as a listener: Lady Rizo's bizarre cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" in which she imagined herself to have escaped a mental ward as she sang the audience her song. Highly entertaining.

Yours,

KM

PS To celebrate the rainy day feeling yesterday, I posted the world's slowest cover of Piano Man Several critics and photographers were on hand, one of whom has featured us as his Artist of the Week ...

Exciting results of the show: Linda started out the night with the infamous bass line from "Sharks" and we were on a roll from that point onward. We introduced "We Fought all the Battles" and the audience cheered wildly during "Wedding Song's" interlude with bass solo, viola and violin flourishes, and general musical madness. We sang a gritty but pretty version of Liz Phair's classic "F--k And Run," which allowed Joshua and Ilana the chance to drop the F-bomb on stage against Nick's insistent drumming. The "Billie Jean" cover was a darkly pleasing experience. The audience called us back for an encore and then still were sad to see us go after we played a few more songs. And when we were breaking down the set, the Joe's Pub mix engineer said, "Someone in hip hop is going to sample your song 'Cairo,' that song's just too good to pass up."

There were dozens of new faces in the audience and after the show we sold our freshly completed CD "Somebody Saves My Life Most Every Single Day," and Kind Monitor T-shirts to totally new listeners. They said they particularly enjoyed "A Single Tiny Story", "Cairo", and "Baby Blue," describing it as a rather gorgeously sad duet between Joshua and Barret. A funny thing happened during the after-party: several people said to us: "It's so weird, but friends have told me to come hear you play and I finally did after all this time ... and you're actually, like, really good! It's like you never know about bands, but you guys are like really, really good." We'll take that as a huge compliment.

Many thanks are in order for making this show such a huge success: to Joe's Pub for booking our release party, all the amazing people who came out in 100-degree weather to fill the house, Joe Hankins for press and publicity, CC Bursell for promotional support, Jerald Stein for photography, Nick Keppol for designing the poster and website (www.kindmonitor.com), the band itself who played with such flawlessness and dedication (Barret, Alex, Linda, Ilana, and Nick). Jen Guthals flew in for the show and took some great pictures of the band from the audience. And so many more people need thanks, especially our friends and fans who spread the word about this weekend's big party and helped draw such a big crowd! You made this all possible.

We can't wait to play for you again.

KM

The album is done!

The album is done; sample tracks are posted.

Kind Monitor's first EP is completed, it's a six-track album filled with studio versions of everyone's favorites from the live shows. Record release party!!!!
Just confirmed: A mid-summer Kind Monitor EP-release party and performance at Joe's Pub!

After 15 shows in Williamsburg and Manhattan, we've attracted the attention and interest of 'one of the best small venues' in the world (BBC Radio) for our album release party. We're thrilled and honored to grace the stage that has Alicia Keyes raving "my favorite rock and roll venue is Joe's Pub" ... 'Cairo,' 'End of the Game,' 'Somebody Saves,' 'Sharks' are all as excited as us to be heard by music lovers everywhere!

And as the music industry sees Joe's Pub as a the best place in the U.S. to discover 'break-out bands,' this show is real opportunity for Kind Monitor to transition from being an adorable indie Brooklyn band playing locally into being a world-class band that can contribute to and touch many people through touring with our music around the country and world.

We request your support as friends and fans, by coming to enjoy the music on July 19th and bringing along your favorite people to create a packed house that night! All we ask if for your attendance and support to help in making this exciting night a success.

Kind Monitor EP-release: Saturday, July 19th, 9:30 PM, Joe's Pub

Love,
KM

Tonight's the night: Show 2 of our Pete's residency

From Last Week's Show W/ Special Guest Scott Matthew

Let the residency begin. 10PM, Friday.

We had a great time playing for everyone at Monkeytown!

Wednesday night's show was a dream come true in a variety of ways -- it was our first SOLD OUT show, it was our first show at Monkeytown, a venue we love, and it was the first time for us to play for an audience surrounding us on all four sides. Having you beautiful people all around us made me a little, well, intimidated!

The first song felt really good; I played Reversible alone for the audience and felt connected to the people around me right away and sensed that audience felt that way, too. Sonia came up on stage and joined me for Kind Monitor done acoustic-style and then we were off from there! Skye T's video art was projected for the rest of the show, everyone seemed to be enjoying the music and the food, I dedicated the song Sharks to a meatball on someone's plate.

After the show people's comments were as follows: "We really liked the song 'End of the Game;' it was so intense it made us both tear up." "Watching you play at Monkeytown let me hear your songs in a whole new way, I felt like I was in the 60s or something with the video art and couches and pillows listening to you play." "My friend dragged me to the show to hear this new band and I was totally won over once you played 'Cairo.'"

All in all, it would be hard to imagine the show could have gone better -- good people enjoying themselves, good acoustics in the space to make us sound pretty, a full house! Yes!

Thanks so much for being a part of a magical night!
