This new campaign for Old Spice with Terry Crews is totally gonzo, but this latest spot is the best to date. Starring Terry Crews and the extremely funny Andrew Hawtrey as Pharoah. You might recognize Andrew from his role as Bergwood.

John Stewart's Daily Show fake news team is at it again. This time Aasif Mandvi reports on a new law in Florida requiring welfare recipients to take a mandatory drug test (which the recipient has to pay $30 to take out of their own empty pocket) in order to receive aid. Aasif discusses the law with a state representative and a Navy veteran who is currently raising his daughter, caring for his disabled mother and going to school for accounting and was receiving welfare. The main argument is that anyone taking taxpayer money needs to submit to a drug test, that is only if you are poor and it's welfare money — not a state representative, a city council member, the governer, a mayor, a policeman, a fireman, etc. The bulk of the budget and those taxpayer money recipients are exempt.

In the end, the law ended up costing Florida $200,000 and not saving any money. The result was very different than Governor Rick Scott's argument that welfare recipients tend to do drugs more than the general population. The result was 2% of all welfare recipients tested positive, while 9% of the general population tested positive. It was just another grand, unresearched idea with good intentions. As we all know, the best building material for the road to hell is good intentions.

Aasif Mandvi then takes the argument to the next level and it's epic.

A federal judge has halted the mandatory drug tests for now.
Constitution: 1
Good Intentions: 0

There is a new wave of sound streaming out from the Northwest once again and it is not grunge revisited. Dungeness Records is producing some great new talent in Sequim, Washington. Found this latest video produced by Squared Away Cinema and debut single from Noelle Johnson titled, "Autumn Song".

Over the past few years I have noticed this outpouring of music from the areas in Washington mostly known for Forks and the Twilight series of movies and books. The sounds coming out of this region are eerily dreamy & sweet with a mix of innocence and fun flowing throughout. Add to that some funky back beats on a few of the more up tempo songs and you have yourself a new sound. My first experience with this cool new cacophony came in the form of Kory Nagler — a relatively successful musician from the area. The use of classic acoustic instruments and remnants of folk sprinkled about harken back to the early origins and the later rebirth of folk in the sixties.

The Sequim (pronounced s'quim) Sound is a pleasant mix of melodic, folksy, downhome vocals with multiple combinations of harpy harmonicas, squeaky & farty horns, plucky banjos, simple bass, clunky drums, tingly percussions, stringy & rhythmic violins or big, strummy guitar chords. It sometimes reminds me a bit of Beirut minus the muttery vocals with a more even beat and a dash more folk. This new sound coming out of Sequim definitely has a unique vibe to it. Not all the way country and not just bluegrass, it defines the entire mood of the region and might be a backlash to the popularity of Twilight that took the Dungeness and Forks area by storm the last few years.

This comedian in France does these prank videos that are so funny and dangerous. His name is Rémi Gaillard and he is lucky that he hasn't gotten his a** kicked more often. Some of the stuff he does is crazy — like f**ing with the French cops on the beat. Truly, he is the JackAss of France. I am putting my full weight behind Vermin Supreme. No, he is not a pizza from Godfather's Pizza, although that could almost be a good truth in advertising campaign.

Vermin is an actual magical wizard with a boot for a hat who is running for president in 2012. Only in an American election can you witness a 'friendly fascist' wizard deliver an entire political platform based on denistry with the promise of a pony for every American. His answer to energy is large turbines run by zombies plus he even turns his opponent gay with magic dust in his closing statement. Check out this clip from CSPAN....

Really cool video based on Dr. Seuss's final book before his death. This is a story about life's ups and downs in the perfect psychadelic setting for a Dr. Seuss poem — Burning Man 2011.

Thought this was a great take on Dr. Seuss and a good sampling of the beautiful scenery and crazy creativity at Burning Man every year. Thanks to Rich Bateman for sharing this one with me. Here is a note from the video's creators:

This video is our gift to you. It took lots of time to make. If you wish to donate $20 or more for next years film project then we will put your name in the credits. Burning Man ain't cheap and we are making no money off of this video. Your support keeps us going!

Here is an idea for a New Year's resolution....

In memory of the loss of a great American genius, Steve Jobs, and inspired by iTrevor.

Everyone should go to their nearest Apple Store and film themselves in the Apple store dancing, singing, reading poetry... whatever you do that makes you different or unique.

Then post the video to YouTube with the words "Apple Store YouTube Mob" or "Apple Store Dance" in the title and make sure to FB and Tweet it to spread the word. The more that we do, the more likely it will be a trending topic on YouTube, Twitter, etc. like a flash mob on YouTube — a YouTube Mob.

Here are two really polished dance examples....

From iTrevor:

From BucketListBoys:

Just remember to be safe: Don't harm yourself or anyone around you; Don't do anything to get arrested; Don't break or vandalize the equipment, the store or any of the Apple employees; Keep it as clean as possible so you don't get flagged; Keep it real.

Pass this on with the links to FB and Twitter below...

Dylan makes some good points. His passion gets away with him a bit, but I can understand his frustration. It is shared by many protesting in the streets right now. Ratigan does make the realization that the congress and the two parties control the entire conversation. However, the president has in the past gone to the public with very little response and a lot of roadblocks from the 'Machine Politic'. From the time he came into office in January 2009, there is video after video of him asking for our support in writing congress on most of the issues — health care, finance reform, spending, etc. Ratigan brings this up himself. However, as Ratigan says the parties that be each have their own well-oiled, well-financed political machines to keep their little power domains and monied interests relevant.

The president was just criticized for his most recent attempt to take it to the people over the jobs proposal by a well-oiled machine working with both sides of the aisle. The senate is the biggest offender with the most powerful fiefdoms to protect.

In the end, the congress makes all decisions regarding funding for any initiative proposed by the other branches of government. They control the purse strings as they have since the US Constitution was written.

It is time for the silent majority to take a stand and finally be heard.

Besides the illogical argument and the paranoid conspiracy theory, the best part about this video is that Rick Perry is wearing a jacket similar to Heath Ledger's character in the movie, Brokeback Mountain. Maybe, it is actually a cry for help from Rick Perry to free him from his handlers and for all of us to help him come out of the closet. You know the historical pattern of these guys who are so homophobic and worried about everyone else'e personal business and what they are "getting away with" — Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Bob Allen, Glenn Murphy, Jr. and the list goes on.

I love the circular argument that giving someone more rights by loosening government restrictions over enlistment is turned into evidence of more government restrictions on the military. Not to mention that repeal of DADT is all part of a "War On Religion" that is being waged by Obama. These guys should write fiction like they do at FoxNews.

I am not sure how Perry states with a straight (no pun) face that people/children can't celebrate openly even equates to how US troops, who voluntarily put their lives on the line everyday to protect the US Constitution, are allowed to identify themselves while in harm's way?

Rick Perry's "War On Religion" and FoxNews' "War On Christmas" argument have major flaws. It is as though every place we go after Halloween*, doesn't turn into a Christmas** factory or whatever other seasonal fantasy or tradition that retailers can exploit to move product in the 4th quarter. It is a time mostly for most children (mainly those with means) to celebrate materialistic gain and is a far cry from the real meaning behind the celebration anyway. However, the materialism is perfect for the retailer.

I rarely hear anything but Christmas songs on the retailer's sound systems during November and December. They do celebrate openly and everyone in every faith has the right to individually do so as long as it does not become a state or official government religion or harm others or destroy private property (i.e. If Rick Perry burnt a cross on some one's lawn see also, Ni**erhead).

These protections are all there in the US Constitution including the one mentioned above that everyone seems to forget about — no official/sanctioned religion. If we made prayer in school mandatory, then you would need to have every possible faith covered including religions that require long meditations or prayer 3-5 times a day. Not to mention that you would have to be OK with and allow someone from the Church of the Spaghetti Monster to practice whatever prayer tradition they might come up with that day. While we waste school time on all the hocus-pocus, when will the learning occur? Or does Perry just want a generation of children as bumbling as he is roaming the country?

There are private schools that you can go to that have specific religious traditions in their curriculum. There is always home-schooling, which is a lot more readily available to a truly dedicated parent than you think. As for Christmas, well go outside and look around and you will see Christmas in every store window you pass and every church you pass (except for the Kingdom Halls). Believe me there is more than enough Christmas present everywhere this time of year. After all, the Hollywood Christmas Parade and a myriad of others around the country all contain the name Christmas in them.

The whole point of saying 'Happy Holidays' in the first place is to save time from having to say 'Happy Thanksgiving', 'Merry Christmas' (or whatever magic you believe in — Hannukah, Kwanza, etc.) and 'Happy New Years'. It makes sense for Conservatives to embrace this phrase, since it represents a reduction in the letter & word deficit of the English language by not having to say all those other redundant phrases over and over.

Now for the proper response....

*a Pagan/Druid holiday celebrated by Rick Perry and other Christians except Mormons and Jehovah's Witness.

**another Pagan holiday set as the time of Christ's birth by the Catholic Church to ease the pagan's conversion into the Church with their historical practice of adopting local traditions into Catholic tradition.

MoveOn.org, sometimes I feel like the dude that never called after our first date, even though you put out and I paid for dinner making us even.
