<p>You see most people when they run an ad, they are still requesting that people reply to them by mail. This is like tortoise marketing because it&#8217;s slow and takes so long to receive the information that was stated in the ad. In today&#8217;s world of phones and the internet, I still can&#8217;t understand why people are still requesting that people respond via mail. Don&#8217;t do this.</p>
<p>When running your classified ad, make sure that you&#8217;re using up to date technology so that you can make it easier for your prospects to respond to you. This isn&#8217;t considered a &#8220;secret&#8221; &#8211; instead, it&#8217;s more like common sense. If you&#8217;re planning on having people respond to you by mail, then you can pretty much kiss your business goodbye.</p>
<p>Now to make your ad work, you have to do your best to target your prospects. Targeting is important because you don&#8217;t want to sell an item to the wrong group of people. <p>Another way to go about targeting is if you do direct mail. You can find a mailing list in something called the SRDS that will shortcut your learning curve. The SRDS contains a wide selection of mailing lists comprising of consumers who have recently bought something. And the more specific with your list that you go, the more success you will have with your mailing. So make the decision as to whether or not you should drill down to a highly specific group of people.</p>

<p>1) Run an ad in a targeted magazine<br />2) Use your ad to connect with a particular group of people.</p>
<p>I think we already talked about running an ad in a targeted magazine, so let&#8217;s focus on using your ad to connect with a particular group of people. In the ad itself, there are many ways to target your prospect.</p>
<p>For example, you could run an ad in a fishing magazine that started off like this:</p>

It is in business matters that criticism needs to be sought out, analyzed and acted upon, if the points made emanate from a valued source. </p>

<p>1) Cold calling</p>
<p>I absolutely hate cold calling, but some business owners enjoy it. These business owners are doing incredibly successful with their cold calling efforts, and it&#8217;s a walk in the park for them. Obviously I&#8217;m not suggesting that you do cold calling because they require work, a script, and a good personality and voice to make it pay off for you.</p>
<p>You will get more no&#8217;s than yes&#8217;s. And the yes&#8217;s that you do get aren&#8217;t promising that they&#8217;ll do business with you. Here&#8217;s another strategy that I don&#8217;t recommend:</p>
<p>2) Door-to-door selling</p>
<p>I hate it when people come to my house trying to sell me encyclopedias.  We already have like 30 collections of encyclopedias that we don&#8217;t even use, so why buy more if they&#8217;re only going to be placed on a shelf that gets no TLC?</p>
<p>Well this is the gist of door to door selling. I don&#8217;t like it because it&#8217;s labor intensive, and requires good people skills to pull it off. Now again, some people are having great success with going door to door, but the purpose of any business is to work less while making more &#8211; and door to door selling just doesn&#8217;t make this possible.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the last technique that I don&#8217;t endorse:</p>
<p>3) Cold direct mail</p>
<p>When I say &#8220;cold&#8221; direct mail, I&#8217;m talking about getting a group of names from the yellow pages and then mailing out to them your sales message. This is the wrong way to go about getting new customers into your business.</p>
<p>Instead, use something called the SRDS to find good target markets. You can get as niche specific as you like with the SRDS, but it will cost you more. But this is usually offset by the lifetime maximum value of the average customer that you bring in to your doors.</p>
<p>All of these marketing techniques are things that I don&#8217;t advise doing, but more and more people continue to do it each day. Stay away from these techniques and learn marketing techniques that will work for you 24/7 non-stop on autopilot.</p>
