At the beginning of the session, two of us went to speak with the chairman of the Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, Darryl Owens, state representative, 43rd District. The representative was cordial and met us surrounded by his staff. We spoke about the state sovereignty bill, HCR10, which declares state sovereignty over powers not given to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution.

Chairman Owens listened to our points about the bill. He said that he would look at the legislation, but would not guarantee it would even be brought up in committee as they had over 300 bills this session. He said that if he did bring it up, that it would be two weeks away. Then, the representative showed that he had researched our group rather than the legislation. He and his staff questioned us about the 912 project and the role of Glenn Beck in it. He also questioned why the project was formed after the election of President Obama. He appeared to be more concerned about partisanship than the content of the legislation. We made it clear that neither our group, nor the bill we were discussing, were partisan: that we had been concerned with the escalating debt and unconstitutional centralization of power in Washington which all went back far beyond the current elections. When I explained that we had active Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents including an active supporter of Dennis Kucinich attending our events, he smiled and we talked about Representative Kucinich. We explained that no matter the party, government that was closer to the people would inherently be more responsive to the people as evidenced by him being willing to meet with us. He agreed to receive our petition from voters later that same day.

Once we left the meeting, we walked to the capital rotunda floor which was starting to slowly fill with individuals intending to attend the rally. By the time the rally began, the rotunda floor was filled with hundreds of citizens overflowing every entrance and leaning over the balconies above: our members and members of other liberty minded groups were rallying in support of the bill. Massive banner petitions with signatures were gathered. Speakers spoke and the people cheered at the idea of government being more responsive. I saw and spoke with one of Chairman Owens’ staff members who was watching the rally, so his office was aware of the intense interest by the electorate. Good to his word, the Chairman, along with the bill’s sponsor, state representative Stan Lee, met us on the steps to the house chamber to receive one of the banner petitions.

Two weeks passed. During that time, more signatures were gathered. Citizens wrote and called their representatives. In addition to the help of others, we handed out over 500 postcards, wrote personal hand written letters, sent emails, and called. The bill was not brought up. We scheduled another trip to the capital, to try to testify to the committee, but the committee meeting was canceled. The bills need to be completed and on the governor’s desk before the end of the month, so we scheduled another trip to the capitol today. An email came out stating that the committee meeting had been canceled again for this week and that Chairman Owens might not even be in the building. We went anyway. Scores of activists from 912 and other liberty groups filled the halls tracking down representatives and senators. At one point, we were lobbying for the Kentucky Firearms Freedom Act when I saw Chairman Owens walking down the hall. Considering that his committee was preventing a hearing on the 10th Amendment resolution as well as the KFFA, we followed him to an office. We spoke to the receptionist and asked to speak with the Chairman. She explained that he would be out shortly and that we could wait for him. As we waited in the hall, others from our groups began to gather. Soon we had a large crowd in the hallway waiting. Everyone recognized that this one man was voluntarily holding up this as well as other important legislation that the electorate wanted, so they knew this was the most important person in the building that day. The Chairman started to approach, until he apparently saw us through the glass door and started out what appeared to be another exit. There were so many people in the hall; however, each entrance had citizens waiting to express their concern. Eventually, the chairman briskly came out. I shook his hand and asked if we could speak with him, he said no, that he was late for an appointment. I asked if we could walk and talk with him, and he said no. We walked with him anyway. One of the men in our group was holding over 1400 petitions that had been signed by Kentuckians in support of the KFFA. The chairman disregarded that massive and painstaking effort and did not give him a second look. Another 912er handed hundreds more of the signed petitions for the 10th amendment resolution to him as he hurried away.

The entourage of citizens attempting to present petitions to their government lead by a politician ignoring them scurried up the stairs. People called out asking if he would ignore 60 voters standing there to talk to him: he continued his hurried retreat. Once we arrived at the House of Representatives offices, the chairman and his aid ducked into a small room behind the receptionists. I then signed in to see the chairman in his office. The receptionist told me that he was not in. I informed her that he was in the office behind her. I noticed his aid occasionally peaking out. One lady in the crowd told one of the staff ladies there to remember that she worked for us. The staffer replied that she worked for the state of Kentucky. The lady in the crowd informed her that was us.

Soon a Kentucky State Police trooper arrived. He then went behind the desks, spoke to a lady there, appeared to check in on the radio, and peaked around the corner into the area were the chairman had ducked. After a short time, I saw hand gestures from one of the staff members and the state trooper in the direction of the legislators’ offices. The chairman and his aid then quickly rushed out with the state trooper by their side. We called to the chairman who ignored the calls.

I asked to speak to the trooper who was polite and congenial. When asked, he explained that he had been called up by the ladies in response to the comment made earlier by the woman in the hall. That woman had long since left, yet the trooper remained and escorted the chairman out then waited around in the reception area. Apparently, citizens with petitions are a threat.

Since we had requested to speak with the chairman, we waited. After some time, a group from the AARP arrived and signed in for an appointment with the chairman, who were called back. There were eight people in their group going to see the chairman. Once that group left, we asked if there was any update, but the receptionist said that the chairman would not be available for the remainder of the day, but suggested that we call his staff to make an appointment.

We called his staff and told the lady who answered that we wished to discuss the 10th amendment resolution and the KFFA. She said that she did not know when he was available. We said that we would be flexible and adjust to his schedule. She said that they would call us back next week, but that only two people at a time were allowed to see him. We had just watched a group of eight go into and return from his office.

We left the reception area. While on the landing, we were speaking to another group of AARP members who were there to lobby. When asked what bill they were advocating for or against, one of the men responded, “I don’t know what bill it is, they just said to put on the shirt and get on the bus.” Another man on the landing then called in to make an appointment to see the chairman. After the call, I asked if he was going to be able to see him today. He replied that they were booked up today, but that they would call him back. I asked how many folks were going to be in his group and he replied four. I asked if they had made mention of having to wait to hear back until next week or if they had limited the number of attendees to two. He said that they had no problem with four but that they did not say when they would call back.

Our intent was to show them the interest we had seen in the electorate for state sovereignty in the form of the 10th amendment resolution and the Kentucky Firearms Freedom Act. We would have gladly walked and talked with him and politely shown him the over 1400 petitions and still more we were gathering on a daily basis. We had other similar brief discussions with members that morning. It would have taken 5 minutes of his time. Through direct observation, this evasion took approximately 15 to 20 minutes. His meeting with the AARP was at least 20 to 30 minutes after that. For such a full docket, it seemed odd that they could afford to cancel two committee meetings in a row. When a lady reminded a state worker that the citizens are the state, the state worker introduced the threat of force in the form of an armed agent. We, as citizens and tax payers have been respectfully gathering petitions, writing letters, making phone calls, and asking citizens to call their representatives. Those appeals for our representatives to support our wishes are not only denied but evaded. When we brought the signatures of over 1400 people, the chairman turned his back not just on that citizen, but all those people who had signed and did not give them a second glance. We have been either lied to or citizens do not have equal access to communicate with their representatives. A state staff member called in the police either under false pretenses or with the intent to harass and intimidate citizens who violated no laws. Chairman Owens has chosen to side with the unconstitutional usurpation of power by the federal government against the people of the commonwealth of Kentucky. When asked to support a bill that affirmed the Constitution which he swore an oath to uphold, he blocked the bill. Based on his comments on our first meeting along with his behavior since, he appears more concerned about how this might affect others, then how the electorate wants to be represented. There is apparently representation in Frankfort, but the question is, who is being represented? This event shows that it is not the electorate. The question for the citizens of Kentucky is this: do you accept this?

kentucky State Sovereignty - Stan lee

Statesmen and Kentucky House Representative Stan Lee speaks to Fox news Judge Napolitano about Kentucky’s State Sovereignty and HCR10

Watch the latest news video at video.foxnews.com

A Tale of Two Headlines

By Jim Ramsay

Against the backdrop of Kentucky facing a two year budget shortfall estimated to be $1 billion, two headlines this week caught my attention.

They tell us as much about the economy and our government. The WKYT articles were headlined, “Kentucky unemployment rate hit 26-year high in 2009” and “Tax package clears Ky. House; Senate fate unknown.” The first article simply related the facts. The 2008 annual unemployment rate was 5.8 as compared to the 2009 rate of 9.3. It mentioned that the record prior unemployment rate was from 1983 which was 11.3. This gives us the backdrop for the second article.

The second article discusses HB 530, a two year $300 million tax measure “to help fill a gaping shortfall in the next state budget.” The bill was voted along party lines with two Democrats opposing the tax changes and one Republican supporting it. The Republicans referred to the measure as a tax increase, but Democrat Harry Moberly from Richmond insisted that it was not a tax increase. The bill does in fact delay a business loss write off schedule that allowed states to take a loss over a period of several years. The net effect of which is that in these difficult economic times, businesses will pay more taxes over the next two years but they will be able to resume the claim of the loss thereafter. The practical effect is that rather then being able to hire or buy new equipment; hundreds of millions of dollars will go to government spending. One could argue that spending is spending. The government will spend those same dollars; however, the question is how will that money be spent?

When a worker or an employer in a small business earns a dollar, they can then determine to spend it as they see fit. If that individual or business decides to give that dollar to a charity or buy a good, the entire dollar goes to that purpose.

When a dollar is spent by the government, it is only spent after being filtered through the inefficient government system. The government first had to go to the person who earned it, thereby creating collection costs. Jails and law enforcement must be maintained to enforce those collection efforts. Whether paid directly or indirectly, money and effort is used to comply with the tax code. There is then overhead in government workers receiving the payments, processing checks, etc. Buildings need to be built to house those government workers and utilities must be paid to allow them to operate. Leaders must be elected to then decide how that money will be spent. Once those decisions are made, the money is transferred to some sort of administering agency who then decide their budgets internally and then must hire workers to interact with the public to spend the money or administer it to the population. Only after this long trail through which each stage takes its toll, is the dollar spent. How much the government consumes in overhead varies widely by agency and program, but it is intuitively obvious that these steps consume rather then add value, so the money coming out of the program is considerably less then the dollar that went into the system.

Back in the second article, Rep. Moberly is quoted as saying, "We have offered this as a solution ... to keep us from facing that catastrophic budget cut that would set this state back for many years…." The article also reads, “the alternative would be painful cuts to education and human services.” The article concludes with the statement, “…House Democratic leaders have been trying to soften those reductions.” This suggests the government views what it does as essential to the progress of the state. The premise seems to be that their spending levels must be maintained at all cost: reducing spending is a potential catastrophe. In government, the few set spending levels and decide who will receive their largess. If they spend money poorly, they simply demand more in the form of taxes, bonds, or federal grants.

The question then remains, how does business spend money? The largest expenditure in a business is often labor costs. When a dollar paid to a worker, there is an exchange of value for value. The worker gives his or her time to make a tire or build a vehicle. The market (aka you and me) by our choices determine the value of that tire or vehicle. Those prices combined with the costs of materials and the cost of capital (profit for the investors who loaned the business the money again, often us, the stock holders) largely set the value of that worker’s labor. The market demands efficiency. Competition continually improves businesses through invention, process improvement, and automation. If a business fails to do so, competitors will and the market will purchase those tires or vehicles freely from that competitor. When WE stop buying from the original business, they begin to starve for cash. WE will cause “gaping shortfalls” for them. WE will cause the business to make “painful cuts” to their staffing levels, and if they fail to improve after that, they will cease to exist and others will purchase their assets. WE the consumer, will destroy businesses that do not produce. In the end, we find that the many set spending levels by our everyday purchases. This may sound harsh, but this discipline brought our society out of the mud huts of our ancestors.

How do these two headlines interact? This tax plan will have direct effects on profitability, which will either be passed on to the consumers in rising prices, or be added to overhead which hampers the business’ ability to hire new people. With unemployment at the levels they are, is this the time to take more from the most efficient job creators and spenders in society and transfer it to be spent inefficiently through the government filter producing dramatically less then $300 million dollars worth of value?

Can you see the differences in the way the market deals with revenue fluctuation and the way government deals with them? Business adapts or folds. Government demands more. The market is about all of society having a say in the distribution of wealth. The government is about the privileged few deciding the distribution of wealth. Rather then viewing the budget deficit as the government overspending or shortsightedly expecting a fluctuating revenue stream to be stable, they view it only as a shortfall in revenue. The profligate spending and poor planning are at the heart of the issue, yet all they seem to see is their manna from heaven upon which they rely is mysteriously absent. We see it as our hard earned money funneled to the wasteful wishes of the few.

Constitution and our Responsibility

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion: So help me God.

The original intent of our Constitution is no longer being preserved, protected or supported by many of our elected officials.

Take time UNDERSTAND, EDUCATE, to DEFEND..

Go to Get Informed to learn more.

The best way to protect ourselves is to understand our history. It has become apparent that the majority of our legislators are not listening; especially the House Elections Committee and its chair Darryl Owens. Phone calls, e-mails, and personal visits have not swayed him to give HCR 10 (State Sovereignty Resolutions) or HB 87 (The Kentucky Firearms Freedom Act) a hearing.

So the time has come for us to take action into our own hands. We must in mass numbers go down to Frankfort and be in that committee on the same day with everyone wearing our pride for our Commonwealth, the Constitution (specifically the 10th Amendment) and our Rights, our Right to be heard!

March 9th at 7:30 AM, we all meet in the Annex Cafeteria where 10th Amendment and Firearms Freedom Act buttons will be handed out to us (they do this at the Capitol a lot) to show support for our bill. Once we have organized ourselves we all go to the committee room and make our presence known and sign up to testify...even if it's not on the agenda (I doubt it will be) and inform them on the 10th Amendment and the Firearms Freedom Act and demand, as it is our right as Citizens, that these bills and resolutions be heard and voted on in committee the next time it meets.

Restoring Honor Rally - Glenn Beck August 28

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 205px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_U8K3SJu4GGA/S3BCRI8VcrI/AAAAAAAAAVs/r57VqB1Lqbo/s320/01252010honor.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435917612461945522" />
We’re back… It’s time again for our trip to Washington D.C.

February 12, 1809 Abraham Lincoln was born right here in Kentucky. In death, he became one of the most admired men in history. In life, Abraham Lincoln remained true to his Kentucky roots. On August 28, 2010 we will make a historic journey in the foot steps of this great president. Join us as we meet together and travel from Kentucky, the birth place of Lincoln, to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC and become part of history joining Glenn Beck for the Restoring Honor Rally.

This landmark event is sure to be a truly historical and may be the last one of this magnitude ever at the National Mall. We will be joining and partnering with hundreds of other 9/12 groups from around the country along with dozens of other like-minded grassroots organizations.

To register we have three easy steps:

Fellow Patriots it is time! Trust me when I say, you do not want to miss this! Thanks to our own Lisa Williams we have organized packages for travel that are very reasonable and flexible. WARNING DO NOT WAIT TO THE LAST MINUTE: Rooms are sure to fill up and with the overwhelming demand already we may not be able to secure more after this block is gone.

For more information continue to visit our web site for updates or go to Glenn Beck’s site about a fund raiser and information on the event Restore Honor 8/28 Rally

“I am also a Kentuckian”

– Abraham Lincoln 1861

(honorary KY9/12 member)

Kentucky Coal and EPA

By Randy Walters:

On Wednesday, February 10th the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy held a hearing in Frankfort. At that hearing this writer and Joey Lewis of Delta Testing in Hyden testified to the committee that the United States EPA was forcing unrealistic water standards on the coal industry. The issue at hand is the Mayfly and water conductivity. The EPA wants all discharged water from mining to be at or below 500 micro ohms per centimeter (electrical current the water will conduct). There is no accepted standard for this level, just the EPA citing a study that itself admits is not conclusive.

At first we thought it was only the coal industry, but we soon learned it would be the entire state, and any entity that discharges water. This takes in sewage plants, the aluminum industry, the stainless steel industry, the car industry, and on and on. The University of California, Davis, reports that a small sewage plant discharges water at a level of 900-1400 micro ohms per centimeter. This means that all the sewage plants in Kentucky, and eventually the nation, will have to be outfitted with new equipment at a tremendous cost, and it still might not be enough to satisfy the EPA. The testimony given by myself and Joey Lewis was confirmed by the Commissioner of Kentucky's Department of Environmental Protection, and was even made worse as he explained the EPA was really shooting for a level of 300 micro ohms per centimeter. He also told us that the EPA had informed him they had been waiting eight years to do this.

There are currently 49 Kentucky Mining Permits on hold as a result of the EPA forcing the Kentucky Division of Water to enforce these arbitrary and capricious standards. We cannot afford to allow the EPA and the liberal Obama Administration to run business out of Kentucky while putting limits on our infrastructure's ability to function Senator Brandon Smith is now threatening to file suit against the EPA on behalf of the committee.

Attend the Restore America Rally at the capital in Frankfort on February 20th at noon. The Mayflower Compact brought us America, the Mayfly Compact can only bring us Maggots and more federal government. Come to think of it, they are both the same.

Celebrate nothing, yet!

By Randy Walters

To celebrate Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts would be stupid. All his victory amounts to is a stay of execution for working Americans. Had he not been elected under the promise of holding up Obamacare we would all be in trouble. To celebrate the win and think everything is ok, and that the Republicans are going to save this country is ludicrous. The Republicans and the Democrats are so much alike in Washington you have to have a program to tell the difference.

Americans have been fooled by the labels. If you think one party could have caused all the mess we are in at this time, you are giving either of them too much credit. It took both of them to reach the extremes we are now facing with the deficit and the job crisis. America bleeds jobs, and the party that is supposed to be “For the people” does nothing to slow the bleeding. This is not to say the Republicans are any better as it was a Republican (Bush 41) who first proposed the deal.

Our nation needs officials of character. We have long since dealt with the other type and we are paying for it everyday. We have no respect in the world view because of the people we freely elect. Were we being herded to the polls with guns pointed at our heads it would be understandable that we voted for such criminals, but we weren’t. The solution to the problems we face today can be found in the words of the founding fathers of our nation. No, not Jefferson, Washington, Adams, or any of their counterparts, but the real founding fathers, Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, and their counterparts. After all, that’s where the crafters of our Constitution got their inspiration.

It will take much more than a political change in order to make a difference in America. It will take a complete change in the character of the men and women we send to represent our nation and guard over its safety and prosperity. Scott Brown was only a signal that change is needed. It’s now time to set forth a path that will assure the change we need.

On Saturday, February 20th in Frankfort it will be our duty to show the legislature of Kentucky and the rest of the nation that Kentuckians know what is best for Kentucky, not politicians. It is also be our time to tell the nation that the environmentalists do not control Kentucky, nor does the EPA. We will mine our coal and our people will work to support our families.

The rally to Restore America is not the solution, but it is a good place to start. It gets underway at noon with much on the agenda, much that can be solved through simple and basic actions. We can restore America, but we have to do it together. Please be there to help us get started.

Glen Beck - Live Free or Die

January 22, 2010- Glenn Beck's first documentary, The Revolutionary Holocaust- Live Free or Die.

This is broken up in 5 parts and each one is well worth viewing.
This past Sunday’s Lexington Herald Leader Newspaper reported again that Kentucky was suffering as a result of coal. In fact, the article said Kentucky spent more on coal associated programs than it took in on taxes from the industry. The lie they are telling is that the only taxes the government receives is from the coal industry itself. They never mention the taxes paid by all the service industries in the coalfields, or the businesses in the coalfields which would not exist without coal.

Would a total economic collapse of eastern Kentucky cost the state? In the eyes of the environmentalist followers it would not. Would middle and lower income Kentuckians suffer from higher power bills if coal was shut down in eastern Kentucky ?

The answers to those questions are so obvious it makes one wonder about the agenda of the people who claim to care about the earth. What about the families they would inflict great suffering upon were they to have their way?

The lives of the people do not matter to the voices who wish to shut down the coal industry. The Lexington Herald Leader, MACED, and all the other groups are willing to lie, juggle numbers, and tell the gullible citizenry anything they can come up with in order to assert their demands on our society.

The papers along with the three major networks have given those people the voice as if they were the majority. It’s the same practice as the Obama Administration’s use of the AMA as an endorsement of the healthcare bill when they actually represent less than one third of the doctors in the country.

Thomas Jefferson saw the possibility for just such damage to our nation and it caused him to write the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution which limited the power of the federal government in the states. It’s a powerful amendment, and if honored by the states can change the direction in which we are headed, socialism.

This February will see a great example of democracy at work in Frankfort . Thousands will gather at the state’s capital to address issues such as coal, gambling, state’s rights, and several other family oriented issues. These issues will be the focus.

The legislators who do not submit to the demands of the people will pay the price. They will be the targets, within their own districts, of a growing movement of Kentuckians. Kentuckians of faith, means, and determination will guide them down the path of democracy, or down the road to home.

The rally is scheduled for Saturday, February 20th so as to allow as many people who wish to attend. Notice will be given if there is any change, and you will be hearing more about it in the coming weeks.
If you want to see our miners continue to work, and our state to be able to stand up for its own rights, please make plans to be there.

August 28 Glenn Beck Washington DC

Message from Glenn Beck-

"On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country.

And then on August 28th write this down in your calendar because this will be most likely the last large gathering on the mall in Washington, D.C. August 28th, I ask you to meet me. Take your family. We move we had something planned. We moved it to August 28th because I wanted your family to be able to be there and your family not in school, et cetera, et cetera. So come to the feet of Abraham Lincoln on August 28th. By that time I hope to have enough things out there that you will at least have some teeth to the so the politicians will see you and hear you and fear you! The reason why I say I think it’s going to be the last large gathering on the mall is because our government has decided that there will be no more gatherings, large gatherings on the mall with Abraham Lincoln and the Lincoln Memorial as of 2011. This will be historic. In the meantime piece by piece, little by little I’m developing this plan, and I will explain more to you a little later. It’s not something I take lightly. It is not something that is something I can whip out. But two can play at this game, and I’ll give you more details as things continue. But I want you to know we are all stewards of this country, and I take my stewardship of my part of the republic seriously, and I take your faith in me extraordinarily seriously."

On August 28, 2010 come be a part of history by joining Glenn at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the Restoring Honor Rally. What a difference a year makes!

When we marched on Washington they called us an angry mob. When we showed up at townhalls all across the country they called us racists and political terrorists. When we defeated them at the voting booth in New Jersey, Virginia and now Massachusetts they point fingers at their weak candidates and blame Republicans for being obstructionists. They refuse to believe that Americans do not want a far left (and might I add, radical) agenda. They don't understand that we are mad as Hell at these politicians who for the last several decades have spent and borrowed this country to the brink of economic ruin. Do they see now that 'We the People' can set aside blind loyalty to a party and do what we think is best for America?

Next comes the real test for Obama...does he change course and try to govern from the center or does he try to ramrod his agenda through by any means possible? I fear he will do the latter and then that's when the real Revolution begins. He is a Progressive and they have been waiting decades for this moment to "fundamentally transform America". Beware - they will not go quietly into the night. Amnesty will be next on their agenda.

Make your voices heard and keep the momentum rolling!!! Get involved any way you can...in elections, in the schools, in the media. Let's take our country back and get back to common sense governing. Now that's change I can believe in!!!

When the leaves turn green

By Randy Walters

Coal Miners are a special breed of people. They are God fearing patriotic people who respect tradition and live the culture the Treehuggers say we have to protect. They work long hours under hundreds of feet of rock, or on top of a mountain in a piece of equipment that could carry them to their death in the valley below. When not working they live, as the rest of us in the mountains do, in a harsh environment that is foreign to most Americans. Even with the hardships it is only seldom that any of us leave, and don’t come back. There’s a kinship here that outweighs the burdens, and that kinship is being threatened.

Now they go to work everyday with the fear of hearing their bosses tell them they will no longer be needed. Sending their children to college, paying medical bills, or being able to afford a small vacation could all be cancelled at the stroke of a pen. An agency such as the EPA at the direction of the current administration with much fanfare from the environ-mentalists could change everything.

The environ-mentalists are wasting no time and no opportunity to create havoc in the coalfields by having law suits filed, protesting mining operations, and using media outlets such as the ever so environ-mental Lexington Herald Leader to voice their one-sided ignorant opinions.

They hate the fact that we use previously mined land for things like hospitals, schools, shopping centers, neighborhoods, industrial sites, parks, golf courses, hunting in places where wildlife did not previously flourish, and many other impractical uses such as gated communities. Yet their voices are heard the loudest. Their causes are given the most consideration and are encouraged by the Obama administration, and the lives of the people of eastern Kentucky are never taken into consideration. What it all boils down to us a failure by state and federal government in honoring the wishes of the people. The people want cheap electricity, jobs, lower taxes, and prosperity. Coal provides those things, but the government and the environ-mentalists don’t want coal.

There’s an old saying in the mountains the Treehuggers should know. “Wait till the trees turn green.” Mountain people have been defending themselves and surviving since their Scotch-Irish ancestors came here to get away from the likes of you.

As for the government we can only hope that enough Americans will wake up to hear their nation crying. We can only pray that enough Americans will show up to join efforts such as 912, and the soon to be formed “Restore America ” movement of Pastor Jeff Fugate in Lexington . We pray for enough patriots to dry the tears and take away the pain of a nation God intended to be blessed.

What a Difference 50 Years Make

by Jim Ramsay

Last night my grandmother was reminiscing about events that happened when she was a young mother.

She told me about a young man who I will call H. He was a large man with learning disabilities, although they did not call it that at the time. She said he was never able to read or write and did not attend school. His family, however, taught this young man to work. When he got older, his mother went to a local refinery and made the case for her son to get a job. She explained how good he was at cleaning. She made the case again and again until finally H was offered a job. The manager later said he offered him the job so that the mother would stop coming into the plant.

H started sweeping floors for a low wage. However, the manager soon found it was as H’s mother stated: H was a good worker. In time, H was given new duties, first cleaning in the cafeteria and later more of the plant. Eventually, he learned to clean the tanks in the refinery earning a decent wage by providing an essential service to the business. When he needed a home, my grandfather taught him, and he built his own home. She told stories of the mistakes H made in the construction that grandpa had to help him fix. H married and had a daughter. He lived a good life and finally retired from the refinery.

Her story reminded me of a young man I will call P. Like H, P has learning disabilities, but is at a higher level of functionality than H. He can read and is a hard worker. P attended all the way through high school but did not graduate. He was enrolled in Head Start and participated in multiple enrichment and job training programs over the years. He applied for and was hired occasionally for minimum wage jobs. Despite his hard work, he had difficulty living up to the requirements even for these entry level jobs. He lived in public housing and had to deal with the crime there. In time, he married and had a child. Due to his utter lack of consistent income, he applied for and received Social Security disability benefits. The family moved from rundown rental trailer to rundown rental house all with government subsidies. He now spends his days playing video games and smoking.

The lessons these scenarios teach give some insight into the role and effect of government in our lives.

P was given significantly more training and had a higher level of functionality than H. Despite this disparity why was H given an opportunity? The answer can be found in simple economics. Businesses can only pay the value of the work being performed: if they consistently pay more, in time, they will cease to exist. With taxes, unemployment insurance, etc. the actual pay for an employee is much higher then the wage the employee receives. Those expenses were much lower in H’s time. Sweeping brought value to the business, but it was a very low value. In my grandmother’s time, a business was allowed to pay the value of the work. In P’s time, there was an arbitrary minimum wage which can also be seen as the minimum value of the work being performed. The company in H’s time could pay him for the value of his work, but the companies in P’s time were forbidden by law from doing so. Therefore, H was able to remain employed and increase his value to the company. P was repeatedly given opportunities, but even with the higher skill set and training, he was unable to consistently produce the value required to earn even the minimum wage. With lifelong employment, H had the dignity of knowing he provided for his family through his efforts and exchanged value for value. With lifelong unemployment, P had low self confidence and escaped into games and addiction.

When the question of housing is reviewed, it is safe to assume that H built a house which would not meet today’s building codes, but it sheltered his family well for a lifetime and the only help he received was the voluntary guidance of a man with good carpentry skills. This further built his confidence and helped him do more in life. For P, the nature of the government housing aggregated men and women idled by government who were provided government funds with which to purchase drugs and alcohol. The result was violence, vandalism, and theft. Later, when he was able to get out of the housing project, he moved into rent assisted housing in a rusty mobile home first and later into a shoddily built home. Having spoken with P, he feels trapped and hopeless.

In the final analysis, we see the invisible hand in the life of H. He was a good man whom my grandmother remembered fondly decades later. He provided value to his employer and produced a family. His daughter graduated high school. He lived with dignity and improved society in many ways. In the life of P, we see the hand of the nanny state. He is a good man who nevertheless brings sorrow to mind when I think of his situation. He has been barred from providing value to an employer or developing the dignity of work. The labor he is capable of performing will forever be denied our society. Moreover, the federal and state dollars spent on him have gone through the inefficient bureaucracies and been diluted. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of dollars shackled P, stole his self-respect, and denied society his skills. And thus we again see where this well intentioned road leads.

Kentucky Saves Christmas

Recently the Governor of Kentucky dubbed the State's traditional Christmas tree a "holiday" tree to be, as he says, "inclusive". The Governor said "What is important is to remember what this time of year is all about... ". Pastor Fugate of Lexington Kentucky invited everyone to - Christmas Caroling at the Capitol! This event was to remind the Governor what Christmas is truly all about!

On Dec 8th in Frankfort Kentucky over 1,000 people gathered together in a peaceful protest in song. 9/12ers joined tea partiers, Family Foundation members, and fed up concerned citizens to meet on the steps of our Capitol on a cold rainy evening to sing Christmas Carols together.

As a result of the efforts of these 1,000+ carolers, and thousands more that made phone calls to the Governor and sent him Christmas cards, Governor Beshear reversed his previous statement and Kentucky once again officially has a CHRISTMAS TREE!!!! Thanks to the people, Kentucky has saved Christmas. And with our voices have sent a shock wave across the nation that we the people want less government, less taxes, no overreaching policies, AND STOP BEING POLITICALLY CORRECT AND STAY OUT OF CHRISTMAS.

Merry Christmas,
KY9/12

Operation Homefront - Give back

The administration has committed to send 30,000 more troops. Your spirits have been high, your faith strong and your spine unbendable. I ended my multiday book tour at The Villages with what had been billed as a rally but could be better described as a candid citizen-to-citizen chat.

Today, I have stopped looking for a leader to show us the way out because I have come to realize that the only one who can truly save our country...is us. To change America's course we need to change ourselves, our expectations and our willingness to accept the unacceptable. When we refuse to allow our children to receive a trophy for participation, we are on the road to restoring the meaning of merit in our Republic. When we insist that no one is too big to fail, we will be able to learn from our mistakes, and when we demand that we are self-reliant, we will ensure that others can rely on us, not the government.

There is much to do, much to learn and time is of the essence. While I will be explaining the entire Plan over the coming weeks and months, I did want to give you a preview of some of the highlights:

- Education is key, and not just for our children. To that end, we will be conducting a series of conventions. These will be full-day experiences where you will be immersed in learning about topics ranging from self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country. The first one will be in Orlando at UCF Arena on March 27th. You will also be able to vote to have a convention in your region by (using the link immediately above this post).

- I have begun meeting with some of the best minds in the country that believe in limited government, maximum freedom and the values of our Founders. I am developing a 100 year plan. I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting, using only the battlefield of ideas.

- All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.

- On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country.

Glenn Beck
<img width='1' height='1' PBS program Kentucky Tonight, there was an enlightening discussion of proposed tax law changes in the state. The lessons however go far beyond Kentucky and illustrate both the tactics (a classic logical fallacy: appeal to pity) and underlying problematic philosophical constructs of redistribution of wealth.

Kentucky State Representative Jim Wayne gave an example of a maid making $7.15 per hour to clean hotel rooms. He said that the current federal “earned income tax credit” brought her salary up to $8.50 per hour. He was proposing a state earned income tax credit that would raise her salary to $9.00 per hour. As often is the case, this argument sounds kind, generous, and compassionate. On its surface, the argument portrays two characters: the poor downtrodden worker and the benevolent government bestowing symbolic bread to the poor. However, as is the case with any forgotten man problem, this example only tells part of the story by leaving out a key player in the tale. That participant is known as the forgotten man.

To analyze the argument, we need to first evaluate its components.

We begin with his subject: the job of cleaning a hotel room. This job, while physically taxing, probably takes 90 minutes to train someone to thoroughly perform the tasks required. The wage for the job the market sets at $7.15. The majority of the work force would be capable of filling the position. Therefore, given the large supply of potential workers as compared to the number of hotel rooms to clean, society and the market have valued the position at this rate.

The next component of his argument is the earned income tax credit. This sum of money is paid directly to the worker from the federal government. Despite it being called a “refundable” tax credit, it was never paid by the worker in order to be refunded. Rather, the worker receives a direct payment from the government in addition to a refund of any income taxes they paid. Similarly, the representative was proposing a state earned income tax credit where the state would send additional money to the worker.

This brings us to the next actor in the story: the state. The state produces nothing nor does it print money; therefore, the only source for this payment is taxation. When we look at taxation, first we will address the source. The representative was an advocate of a “progressive” tax code, meaning that he wants to “target” (his word) the highest earning workers. Each of these targets is the forgotten man.

Salary surveys show the highest paid jobs include doctors, lawyers, business owners, business executives, etc. For the sake of argument, we will look at two: the most respected, doctors, and one of the most vilified, business executives. In each case, we begin with a requirement for intelligence. Follow that basic intelligence with years of education and residency, often taking 12 years of training for the doctor. In the case of the business executive, the educational requirement often includes an MBA for a total school time of 6 years. There are usually years of internships and working up through the ranks for the position. In both cases, we see lengthy training periods with high education costs and the debt that goes with it. Based on the intelligence, education, study requirements, and specialized skills, the percentage of the population capable of filling these types of responsibilities, is extremely small. We do not choose doctors or business executives by drawing lots; those interested in those positions possess not just natural skills, but perform years of work, education, and skill development. Society and the market values these positions at the top of the salary range.

Now that we understand the players, we need to look at the core of the argument. What the representative was saying was that the free market and society are wrong and unjust. He was saying that that the eye surgeon who returns our sight is paid too much while the person who vacuums the floor in a hotel room is paid too little. He wanted to reduce the reward for the excellence and years of hard work and commitment of one person to transfer to another with an hour and a half of training. One key is that the market determined those wages. The representative has decided that; if a business produces higher quality products due to the decisions of an executive, and millions of consumers judge with their dollars to purchase the better product, those millions of decision makers were wrong: instead, a small group of planners second guess those millions and confiscate those dollars to provide largess in the form of a “credit” to whomever they wish. Are the planners and the politicians correct, or is the market correct in their free exchange of value for value?

Beyond the core argument, there are ancillary issues with this proposal which could be explored at another time. Examples include the fact that in between the “target” of the taxation and the beneficiary of the largess lay a massive bureaucracy that devours a significant percentage of those dollars; compliance costs of satisfying the tax code, opportunity costs of tax shelters, and other political manipulation. This argument results in the state placing an albatross around our neck. To say it more plainly: these all add up to a massive destruction of effort.

A Kentucky 9/12 Personal Story

A group of Kentucky 9/12ers found that not only are they connected through their passion for their country, but also through serving their community. Tens of thousands are unemployed and waiting in food lines because of the federal government, proving once again that the government is the problem, not the solution.

The Central Valley Tea Party group naturally reached out to network, and across the nation the response was overwhelmingly positive.
