To burn a data DVD with a file that is 2 GB in size or larger you must use the DVD (UDF) format and not the default DVD (ISO) which is regularly used for creating a data DVD in Nero Burning ROM.

You will receive a message telling you that you have to use a different specification setting : “The file “” is larger than 2GB and therefore cannot be store in an ISO file system. Please use the UDF file system to write such large files. This can be done by selecting another compilation type.”. And this is because the ISO 9660 specification doesn’t allow to write files that are larger than 2 GB.

To burn more than 2 GB at once you have to use “DVD-ROM (UDF)”. The following steps will help you to do this:

1. click and lunch Nero StartSmart (Nero icon)
2. on the left side of the window you will click on Nero Burning ROM
3. again look at the left of the new window, scroll down and click on DVD-ROM (UDF) – in the image, at the bottom.

4. click on NEW

From here you’ll have to follow the regularly steps in burning you DVD.
As you can see, that annoying message disappear and you can drag & drop files into burning section, larger than 2GB.

If your ipod touch / iphone shuts off and it doesn’t want to turn on, no matter what are you trying to do, is because it might be stuck in the DFU mode. This is happened regularly when the jailbreak process didn’t work well.

Fortunately there is a solution, even a easy one:
1. turn on your computer and connect your iPod Touch / iPhone to it.
2. hold down both, the power and the home buttons (the iPod Touch / iPhone will power off after 10 seconds)
3. after theiPod Touch / iPhone powers off, release the power button (but keep holding down the home button)
4. in no more than a couple of seconds, you should hear that Windows sounds that means the iPod is being detected by your computer again.
5. release now the home button, and your iPod will be back alive, in DFU mode.
6. open iTunes (if is not already open) and restore your iPod Touch / iPhone firmware.

Your iPod Touch / iPhone will not be jailbroken now, but at least will be functional.

I know that there is an another method which involves to modify the SQL but we all knows that this a complicated method and we have to have good skills in working with code.

The easy method which everyone should be able to do it in no more than 5 seconds is to delete a file from your blog ftp directory. You will find it regularly in public_html. The name of this file is wp-trackback.php.

1. open your ftp and go to public_html
2. locate wp-trackback.php and delete it.

This should disable from now all pingbacks / trackbacks on your wordpress blog posts.

I’m not 100% sure, that this solution will works for everybody or for an unlimited time, but, at least for now, it is a good solution for anyone who has the internet connection filtered by the internet provider and can’t download any torrent or even access Peer-2-Peer websites due to some sort of restrictions.

So, let’s get down to the solution.

1. go to the torrent website and copy the link of the torrent you want to be downloaded (from the browser or right click on “Download this torrent” and click on “Copy Link Location”

1. go to http://anonymouse.org

2. enter the URL address of the torrent into the field named “Enter website address:” and click on Surf Anonymously. It will open again the torrent website but this time the link will be different as you can see looking into the URL address. (or you can go straight, from the beginning to http://anonymouse.org, surf through the website and when you get the torrent, copy the address from the browser and go further)

3. copy that address from the URL, open your torrent client (Azureus or whatever), go to File and click Add Torrent From URL. Just paste in, the link, or if is already show up over there, hit OK.

4. the download should goes on, this time without any limitations.

IMPORTANT! I’m not encouraging anyone to use unpaid stuff. Proceed with caution and don’t forget about the copyright.

I have been trying for a couple of times to get cleared the Google Search History using the following path: Tools and after Clear Private Data. Unfortunately my web searches hasn’t been deleted.

Finally I’ve got the solution, which is solution is actually a easy one: go to Google Toolbar search box and click on the arrow. At the very bottom click on the Clear History link. Easy eh?

Smart enough, in this way you don’t have to delete and lose your browse history.

After I’ve tried, with no success unfortunately, to use Captcha plugins to protect against spam on my Wordpress blogs, I’ve decided finally to take a look into the cPanel features for spam protection. And indeed there are some nice solutions.

I’ve choose BoxTrapper, a cPanel AddOn which protects your inbox from spam by forcing all people to reply to a verification email before their email will get into your inbox.

Setup:

1. open your Wordpress blog and go to the General Settings page.
2. write into the E-mail address field an address in this format: whereveryouwant@yourdomainname.xxx (mine: ken@kensfi.com)

3. open cPanel pointing your web browser to www.yourdomainname.xxx/cpanel
4. fill in the username and password (the same you’re using for FTP)
5. click on Mail and then Add/Remove/Manage Accounts and click on Add Account (bottom of page).

6. enter the same email you entered at the 2nd step, enter a password and set up the quota (how much space of storage you assign for this email address) – try to be generous (at least a couple of hundreds of MB).
7. click on Create.
8. click on Go back (bottom of the page) twice

Now you should be back on Mail Manager Main Menu.

9. click on BoxTrapper Spam Trap; there should be listed your new email created. Click on Manage.
10. click on ENABLE button; you should receive a new message “BoxTrapper has been enabled on the account whereveryouwant@yourdomainname.xxx”.
11. press Go back; click on configure settings and here modify only the numbers of days you want an unverified message to be kept on the server. I’ve let it default – 15 days. Click on Save if you have been modified something and again push Go back.
12. now you’re back in BoxTrapper Configuration page. Fill free to modify whatever you want but don’t forget to click on Edit Forward/White/Black/Ignore Lists then Edit Forward list and write down the email address you want the verified messages to arrive – is better to use a regular email provider address like gmail or yahoo instead of using the server email, in this case, whereveryouwant@yourdomainname.xxx.

Now everything should be up and running. Just to make sure that everything is OK, make a few tests sending emails to whereveryouwant@yourdomainname.xxx and see what’s going on. You should receive back a verification email which you should replay unchanged. And Bang! The test message will get through to the email address you setup on the 12nd step. On this email address you’ll receive all the comments from your blog.

To review in a few words, BoxTrapper is forcing every comment we receive (not only on blogs, but regular websites too!) to be verified by the people who’s sending it by replaying it, a simple condition to verify if a comment is coming from a bot or from a person. Smart eh? :)

What I think about BoxTrapper? FORGET ABOUT WORDPRESS CAPTCHA! :)

So, here we are, today is the day! The day when I cannot download anything from P2P websites. I didn’t now that a company like Rogers can do this to its customers but it seams that they can. I tried to download a small piece of program, which is also free anyway, from Mininova and bang, the download speed is ZERO!

Reading now within dozens of articles / replays on the internet I see that the big fight again the internet users of P2P websites got fired up on all the Internet providers networks not only with Canadian providers like Bell and Rogers but in United States too, where we got used to believe that is the absolute freedom.

So, Mr. Engelhart’s statement that Rogers customers are happy is dead wrong. How can you be happy when your internet connection is filtered and you don’t have access to all resources of the web? Isn’t it supposed to be the Prime Minister who protects Canadians from this sort of abuse instead of defending monopolistic corporations as he has been doing since he got into office?

Who gave to Rogers the right to look in my packets?
Rogers job is to get my packets to and from my house to the internet as fast as possible without looking beyond the headers.

Have they not been upgrading their networks to keep up with demand as they are talking about network congestion? Is the money Rogers spent on infrastructure and such, sufficient to sustain the threshold if it does get congested? If it is, why is Rogers throttling necessary? If we have Rogers and Bell as our only choices, where is the free market? How can we make a free choice?

These are questions with no answer and clearly I’m not expecting nothing. Canada is a country with NO competition and the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission) apparently aided Rogers in stamping out the competition.

After all, what for 10MB/sec download speed limit or the 60GB bandwidth? It’s worthless. I will likely get down to the basic package. At list I’ll save my money.

Listening to a nice playlist selection of Megadeth songs I’ve realized that I don’t know how to save the songs played in the Winamp playlist (send the Winamp playlist to folder) in idea of uploading of this songs on my ipod later on.

After a while I’ve discovered googling that the solution is a free Winamp plugin which is giving you the chance to drag-and-drop with right-click the songs, to copy all the mp3 files to a folder, from Winamp playlist to your preferred location; it can be to Nero windows if you’re thinking to burn a CD/DVD with these sons or maybe just to copy it into a new director on HDD.

The Winamp plugin is Drag ‘n Drop from Playlist Editor.
I’m sure you’ll find it as interesting I’ve found it myself :) Just think of a playlist using hundreds of songs from all over the HDD, lots of Windows directories… and different hard disk partitions.

PS. the plugin requires Winamp 5.3 or later

Here is the solution:
Open your browser and type (for easiness just click on the link bellow):
www.google.com/ncr
press ENTER

close and reopen the web browser and point again to google.com
yep, you’re there :)

http://www.google.com/intl/en/ is doing the same thing.

In the same idea if you want to use something else than google.com, let’s say google india, you have to type this:
www.google.in/ncr

the result will be:
http://www.google.co.in/

You can do the same with www.google.us/ncr, www.google.ro/ncr, etc

I’m not talking usually too much about software but DupeTrasher got my full attention. DupeTrasher is a tool for removing the duplicates files from your HDD. It’s not removing only the files but the duplicate directories and archives too.

So, why is this software such a precious?
Let’s just assume that you have hundreds or even thousands of pictures on you computer. A part of this pictures you’re sending to your friends over the internet and you duplicate and resize this pictures in order to sent them. After a while your computer will be full of duplicate pictures (as it was my PC).

Or, maybe you are a big music listener. You will have tons of mp3s, a part of them in two or more places on your computer, as duplicates. To delete manual all this junk is a big pain. The only solution is to use a tool and DupeTrasher is it’s doing a great job cleaning your HDD for duplicates.

What is DupeTrasher actually doing?
DupeTrasher is searching on your HDD for duplicates. Once the search process is done you can let DupeTrasher to remove automatically the duplicated files/directories/archives or you can select them manually.

I had chosen the automatic method and the results were impressive – almost 9 GB of duplicates were founded and removed from my HDD, most of them pictures but a few movies and dozens of mp3s too. Of course you can use a free tool to do this but I have found very hard or, to be sincerely, impossible, to find a good free software to remove safely the duplicate files, and anyway what I found didn’t removed the directories which contained that files too.

What can I say more? I am really impressed about the performances of this small piece of software. For all of you interested in removing the duplicates from your computer I recommend that you check this duplicate file finder – DupeTrasher.

Have you ever wondered if is possible to receive notifications from your Google Calendar directly on your cell phone? The good news for all of us is yes, is possible.

For all of us who are using Gmail, we know that there is a nice feature called Calendar, where we can write down our schedule, plan our work for the next days, write down the friends birthdays for better remembering, etc. The best part of this Google feature is that besides the computer pop-up messages we can receive as notification, we can setup to be informed about personal events directly on our cell phone by SMS (it doesn’t require to have an internet connection on the phone!) and for most of us it will be for FREE, except the fact when our phone provider is charging us for receiving messages on our mobile.

How to receive SMS notifications from Google Calendar events?

First of all, in order to use this service, you’ll need to register your cell phone number in Google Calendar. Just sign in, click Settings on the top-right of the page, and go to the Mobile Setup tab. After you have been finished with the registration part you can follow the next steps:

1. open up your Gmail account
2. go to Calendar (on the left-middle) and click on the date you want to schedule a notification (e.g. Dentist appointment)
3. right bellow the calendar, click on Add than click on Edit Details
4. in the New Event windows fill in all the details you want, deselect All Day (it won’t send you a SMS notification if you haven’t deselect All day!)
5. click on Options (right bellow of Description field) and set up the types of notifications you want. See the next print screen for more info.
6. click in Save changes
7. close the windows.

Now everything is up and running. At the desired hour and day you should receive a notification via SMS with that event.

As a “thirsty” ebooks reader (I just hope you are too!) I was all the time looking for the best PDF reader for iPhone I can get. Some of these apps do a really good job but I was interesting more in particular PDF reader quality, I wanted an iPhone / iPod touch apps which is giving me the possibility to modify the font size. And this is because I don’t have a perfect sight. Anyway, who’s using a PDF reader on iPhone knows what I am talking about, you don’t really need to have vision problems to wonder if is there any trick to make the damn font little bit bigger.

So, what I discovered? The best iPhone apps for all PDF’s readers is Stanza! From now you can change the font of any PDF, in any way you want: font size, font color, etc. Just amazing! Sorry, but I have to go now to read these one thousand PDF books waiting for me! :p

It seems that is not easy to grab a screen shot from a playing movie on a PC, when you’re using Windows Media Player.

In BSPlayer is very simple: press Shift + P or simple P and you will get saved all your movie print screens into the BSPlayer directory, usually here C:\Program Files\ACE Mega CoDecS Pack\BSPlayer\ in this form: bscap000.jpg, bscap001.jpg, etc.

The problem is the Video Card, the hardware acceleration which makes practically impossible for a movie to be captured into a print screen (remember this is applied only to WMP) . A similar situation is in photography where it’s very hard or impossible to catch the cyclist into a shot because of the speed of the action.

What we can do in both situations is to slow down the action and to make it “printable” on our screen. In computers we have to refer to the video hardware acceleration.

Here are the steps to be followed:

1 – Open Windows Media Player
2 – Go to Tools > Options > Performance
3 – click on “Video Acceleration“, drag the slider to none
4 – Click Apply and then OK
5 – Restart WMP if it’s not restarting by itself.
6 – Open the movie you want to take a screenshot of, fast forward to the place that you want one of, then click Print Screen button.
7 – Open MS Paint / Adobe PhotoShop, Corel Paint or whatever program you are thinking to use and paste it.
8. You should have now the printscreen of the movie.

A second method is referring to Overlays:

1. Open Window Media Player
2. Go to Tools > Options
3. In Options, click on Performance Tab
4. Click on the Advanced Button
5. Uncheck “Use Overlays”

Don’t forget to roll back the changes when you’re done :)

Click Ok

First of all you have to have access to your web domain cPanel. The best part is that almost every web hosting is providing this user interface, named cPanel.

Here all that seven steps for installing Wordpress:

1. Search on Google for: Wordpress download. Download the latest version. If it’s an archive, extract the files into a new folder.

2. Go to your website FTP and upload all the files and folders belongs to the Wordpress into the Public folder. Or, you can use the File Manager from cPanel to upload / extract files directly on server.

3. Go to cPanel. It should be something like this: http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Enter the user name and password. Open MySQL (mine icon is named MySQL Account Maintenance) and Create a new database and create a new user name and assign it a password. Set the Privileges: ALL – this is very important!

4. Open your blog by typing your blog address into the browser.

5. Create a config file where you’ll have to add all the info asked: database name, user name and password (created in step 3).

6. You will receive a Wordpress user name and password. Write them down!

7. Welcome to Wordpress! Your blog should be now up and running.

Other possible settings: block search engines from indexing your blog (in case you’re planning to add some content first on it), change the default password created by Wordpress engine with your preferred one.

Why?!? Is there any “golden” rule I had been breaking in this days? The really worst part is that I was working really hard to make a list of friends especially on TechOnly account, an account with the principal target only tech guys, a kind of tech party on Twitter.

I’m thinking serious if I’ll continue opening another account or I’ll stop using Twitter.

There are situations where you want to make unreadable a car number, a signature, an email address or just an ordinary text, before you upload a picture which contain it, over the Internet. To do this you have to apply an effect over that text.

What I am using with a great success is the Blur Tool (press R) in Photoshop. To do it open your picture / print screen / scanned document, press R and choose brush size and style and the tool’s strength from the Menu top bar. Finally drag (with mouse button pressed) for a couple of seconds the tool over the text you wanted unreadable.

To make a more complex job go to the same menu from the top, press Mode and chose which effect you want to use. Just play a little with the effects listed there to see what’s happened.

A sample of this effect applyed over my email address is this pictures from below (I used this effect in the previous SMTP server tutorial)

Sample of unreadable email address using Blur Tool in Photoshop

Don’t let others to know your private data. Make it unreadable using the Blur Tool. Enjoy! :)

A couple of days ago I installed a new application on my iPod Touch, NoteMaster. This iPod Touch / iPhone app is doing a good job with synchronizing my personal “to dos” from my iPod with my Google Docs. This means even if something goes wrong with my iPod and I’m losing all the data, I have the chance to recovery it from my Google Docs.

In order to make working the sync I had to setup the Outgoing Mail Server or, simple, SMTP server on iPod. No matter if you are planning to do the same or you just want to install other similar app you have to type the following data in the requested fields:

1. Host Name: smtp.gmail.com
2. User Name: here you type your gmail address
3. Password: your gmail account password
4. Use SSL: ON
5. Authentication: Password
6. Server Port: 587

The problem: “The plan was to sync pictures onto my Ipod Touch and copy them onto my work computer. I have iTunes on this computer, but can’t find a way to get the pictures onto my work computer.”

If you’re still wondering how to transfer photos from iPod Touch / iPhone to your computer there is a simple way (actually, two ways, depending of your computer settings) to do it and YOU DON’T NEED ANY SOFTWARE! Yes, it’s true, to get the synced photos off, you’ll DON’T need to use a third-party tool.

The Solution(s):
A.
1. Plug in your iPod Touch / iPhone.
2. This will pop-up a new window “Select the program to launch for this action”.
3. Click on Microsoft Scanner and Camera wizard / Next.

4. Select de pictures you wanted transferred to your PC and Click Next, give to the group of pictures a name and choose a place to save this group of pictures.
5. Check Delete pictures from my device after copying them if you want to have this pictures only on your PC.
6. Click Next and all your selected pictures will be transferred from your iPod Touch / iPhone to your PC.

B.
1. Plug in your iPod Touch / iPhone and there will be no such a message “Select the program to launch for this action”. See How to enable “Select the program to launch for this action” message.
2. Go to My Computer and right click on User’s iPod (or User’s iPhone’s I guess for iPhone users).
3. Click on Get Pictures. It will pop up a new window like the following one. Click Next and follow the same steps you get used to follow for transferring files from other devices like a photo camera, etc. This steps are described in the previous method, as well.
