N- Cake Smash

This adorable little guy just turned one. And what better way to celebrate than with a cake smash session!

He loves to smash things so mom and dad though that this would be perfect! Well little did they know that he wouldn't want to smash his cake. All he wanted to do was stick his toes into it. But with a little help from dad he got right in there. Not very willingly but he did it! And had a good time! At the end of the session him and I looked like a smurfs all blue from the icing. My camera still has icing on it! But it was worth it!

Rebecca and Hunter- Engagement

Rebecca and Hunter met online and fell madly in love. They had a long distance relationship but in no time Hunter packed up is things and moved to Penticton to be with Rebecca. They have two beautiful children and will be tying the knot later this year! Hunter is very into photography and graphic design. He knew what type of photos he wanted and what poses he wanted to do. He loves the camera! Rebecca on the other hand was pretty quite and was just happy to be next to the man she loves!

Scarlett and Darren- Wedding

Here is another wedding that I was apart of months ago. I absolutely adore this couple. Scarlett is this beautiful, soften spoken, kind hearted, loving soul and Darren is a city boy turned cowboy with a laid back, have a good time attitude. These two have been waiting along time for this day. They actually met in high school but with life they way it is sometimes they lost touch and finally reconnected years later. Their wedding was definitely long overdue. I had so much fun at their wedding. They had a HUGE wedding party full of awesome people. They had me laughing all day. It wasn't easy to get them to cooperate but with a little pushin' and shovin' it all came together. The wedding was what I would call country chic. Wild flowers, hay bails, handmade little country touches everywhere, with pops of hot pink and lime green. It was gorgeous.

I have to mention Scarletts makeup artist. It was her young daughter. She is very into makeup, hair and fashion. She is an adorable and smart young lady. It was so touching to see her with her mother and the tight bond that they have. To be honest I wouldn't have trusted anyone but a professional with my makeup on my wedding day. But to Scarlett that doesn't matter what matters to her most is family.

I am so happy that I was apart of your wedding not only are you amazing clients you are great friends and I am sad to see you move to Alberta. But its not goodbye, its see you later! Love you guys!

Aimee & Billy- Wedding

I had the opportunity to be apart of this gorgeous couples very special day back in August. Unfortunately, my blog was down and I was unable to post their photos (along with so many others) so I am catching up! Better late than never.

Last year I wasn't taking on any new clients and didn't shoot very much. I had to have major surgery on my leg and it wasn't pretty. Luckily Aimee-Eve and Billy had booked me way in advance so of course I honored their contract.

I started off their day in Surrey with the beautiful bride and her girls. When I showed up Amy was frantic, what bride isn't? She was so worried about time and everything going on that day! No matter how much her girls and I reassured her that everything was ok she was still pretty much hyper ventilating. Needless to say everything turned out to be perfect! After I took some shoots of the girls it was time to head over to see the groom. Boy was I surprised when I showed up at the Grooms parents house. The house was full of friends and family. Oh, did I mention that Billy's family is Scottish? So not only was there a full house, there was a full house of crazy (in a good way) Scottish people. I had a hard time understanding one of his groomsman because his accent was so strong, it made for an interesting day. And for those of you who are wondering, no the men where not wearing underwear under their kilts! Hey its a wedding you have to follow tradition.

Their ceremony and reception was held at the Diamond Alumni Center in Burnaby on the SFU campus. SFU is the most gorgeous location, I love it there. There is so much around. So many different places to have photos taken and the Diamond Alumni Center is amazing everything from the atmosphere, to the employees, and of course the food!

It was a great day and night filled with love, laughter, tradition, friends and family. I am so happy that I was there to witness and be apart of this wonderful wedding.

Giving Back 2012 Wedding Contest Winners

And the winner is........................Jade Russell and Eric Montgomery.

Jade and Eric where not only nominated once but TWICE by two of their friends. Here are the emails I received!

Entry 1:

Dear Kayci,

I’m writing to you in regards to your giving back 2012 – wedding contest. I nominate Eric Montgomery and Jade Russell. They met each other in 1993 in high school. Back then there was a spark or what some would call flirtaous, but they never pursued each other.

Life throws you hurdles, which is exactly what Jade and Eric have been through. Jade was in a serious car accident her graduation year. It was a long road to recovery and she still deals with it to this day. Life had other plans for Eric which lead him through the rough part of life. Through those years of going there separate ways, they each experienced what life is all about. Birth of there children. In 2010 with the help of social media, Eric found Jade on facebook. That spark from 1993 came back to both of them. They emailed back and forth for months as they both lived in different towns. Then Jade took the leap of faith and visited Eric on May long weekend 2010. From then on they realized that through all that has happened in there own personal life, the only thing that mattered was that the two of them were happy together. So during July 2010, Jade packed up her 3 boys and moved to Kelowna to be with Eric. During that summer, Jade found out she was pregnant. Eric and Jade couldn’t be more happy. Finally they were having a child together. Then to put the icing on the cake they found out it was going to be a girl. With Eric having 3 boys already and Jade having 3 boys, a little girl is just what they needed to complete this family. In December of 2010 while visiting Eric’s parents, Eric popped the question to Jade and without hesitation Jade said “Yes”. In April 2011 there daughter Maddison was born. The apple of any parents eye, she gave new meaning to life. In May 2011 Eric started a job that would require him to be out of town for 3 weeks and home for 1 week. This has been a huge sacrifice for him and an adjustment for Jade being a stay at home mom to now 4 kids. But through this sacrifice it has only made them stronger. There being married May 5, 2012 in Bradner and have been planning there wedding on a budget as they are paying for it themselves. As we know with this economic time things can be tight but Jade and Eric are determined to make it what they want it to be.

I believe that you may go your separate ways and cross life’s hurdles but in some way, shape or form you will find your true love and that is exactly what Jade and Eric have found.

Entry 2:

Hi Kayci,

I wanted to enter a couple into your wedding contest, so here it goes............

Jade and Eric attended the same high school in Aldergrove, but didn't really hang around with the same crowds. They passed each other in the hallway, or outside and were friendly, but nothing more than that.

Fifteen years, a few failed relationships on both sides and a bunch of kids later, they reconnected on Facebook, and their love story began.

They messaged back and forth, both discovering each may have had a crush on the other during school, but neither had the guts to ever say anything to the other. Messaging turned into texting, and texting led to hours on the phone, which eventually led to Jade taking a trip to Kelowna for a visit.

I personally believe they fell in love on that first weekend. The days flew by, and they were soon trying to figure out when they could make the next visit happen. It didn't take long for Jade to make the decision to pack up her boys and move up to Kelowna to be with Eric forever.

Shortly after the move, they discovered they were expecting! Another bundle of joy to their already very full, blended family of little boys. We soon found out they were expecting a tiny baby girl! Both of them were over the moon! A year ago, Eric asked Jade to make him the happiest man around by becoming his wife. Of course, Jade said yes!

They have hired me on as their wedding planner and emcee for the evening, and I can't think of a more deserving couple to win this prize. The love and joy that they share, the way their families have blended and the genuine happiness that exudes from them is clear to all around them.

We all know weddings are expensive, and this would be a huge help to them. I think they deserve a little something after waiting all these years to finally be together. I hope this entry can help them have a little more happiness on their special day :)

Cousins- Children

I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!! I am still trying to catch up on my blogging from the past month. Hopefully I will have it done in the next couple of days! Check out the adorable cousins below!!

I met up with theses three adorable munchkins on a chilly but sunny Winter day. I know it looks like Fall but here on the coast that's what our Winter looks like. These guys where so easy to photograph. The oldest one is such a ham. He is destined to be in the entertainment business when he grows up! The middle one is a little on the shy side but in front of my camera he opened up and was so darn cute!! Even if he didn't want t show his teeth when he smiled! Still adorable of course. And we can't forget baby girl! Isn't she the cutest thing you have ever seen? I just adore here. Shes just so happy and cooperative I love her! I can't wait to meet up with these guys again this month!!

Winter Wonderland- Family

On the one day that we got snow I headed out to Aldergrove to photograph Sam and her gorgeous family! Sam is the owner of La Bella Vita Boutique. She makes amazing stuff from body scrubs to crayon roll ups. I personally love my vanilla brown sugar body scrub and I cant wait for her to come out with the Himalayan pink bath salts!! Anyway back to this gorgeous family....I had so much fun with them and their adorable doggies running all around their yard. They have the most amazing yard ever, I was just in awe of it I really wish it wasn't so sunny and I could have utilized more spots! (some sun is good too much sun is bad ) Either way it was a super fun sesh and I can't wait to photograph these guys again!!

Miss B is a great friend of mine. It took a lot of convincing to get her in front of my camera. But I'm glad I was so persistent! She was a little shy at first but like many others opened up and had fun with the shoot! She told me that it wasn't as bad as she thought and that she actually had fun! Who would have thought ;). I was nervously but happliy antcipating having these two little brothers over. I have photographed them before and well lets say its been interesting. The oldest one, Mr. D, hates the camera, not just mine any camera. I know hate is a strong word but really it is the only one that can say how much he does not like having his picture taken. He little brother on the other hand LOVES it! Needless to say, after a bit of coning and bribing I did eventually get Mr D to sit for one picture.

Here is the cutest little sister duo that I have ever photographed. All though the littlest one didn't really want her picture taken she eventually came around and let me snap a few quick shots. The older one on the other hand LOVED the camera and did her own little poses making my job super easy.

Hey! Ok I know I am not the best writer/blogger but someones gotta do it right? With Facebook tracking every single move a person makes who really needs a blog? Well I learned not everyone has Facebook!! Shocking I know! So I will keep blogging all my sessions!! Hopefully, I will become a better ~~writer~~...blogger.

Now to get to the point of this post. Cans For Comments. I stumbled upon cans for comments in 2009 when I heard about it from the two awesome local photographers Chris and Lynn. And this year I am going to be participating again.

What is Cans For Comments?
It’s a way for photographers or really anyone with a blog to give back, and do something good for their community. For every comment posted on my blog I will donate one canned /non perishable food item to the Surrey Food Bank

How to comment.
If you are visiting a specific blog link, the comment box is at the bottom of the post. Type your message in and click “Post Comment”. “Leave a Comment”. Click that and post away! While I always appreciate the facebook “Likes” on each post, you have to leave words for it to count as a comment.

Why should you comment?
Because its an easy way for you to help out a community in need without having to leave your home or give anything but 2 minutes of your time and a comment!

Day two of my Fall Mini Sessions in Fort Langley. And we lucked out and got some what of a nice day. It was still a little cold but no rain! Yay for no rain.

This little group is made up of cousins. Aren't they adorable? Their session was so much fun! These kids just made me laugh and laugh and laugh some more. They also took direction very well and did everything that I asked of them!! I wish my kid was like them!

Here's another awesome family who braved the rain and came out for my Fall Mini Session.

I first met Nicole and Rob back in 2009 when I photographed Robs brothers wedding. Now a few years later the are a happy little family with the most handsome little man. Even though I was cold and soaking wet these guys made my day worth it. Oh, I have to mention what an all star Nicole was. She was wearing 4 inch heels and stood on a bench over my shoulder just to get her little guy to smile at me. Thanks Nicole!

See Rob jump?? Rob loves to jump!! Rob has been in a couple of weddings that I have shot and every time I have made the wedding party jump. When Rob contacted me about having photos done he asked if there would be any jumping involved, I said of course!

R & M- Fall Mini

Last weekend I headed out to Fort Langley for a full day of shooting. Of course with my luck it was raining. Not just a little sprinkle either it was pouring!!! But never the less I had some amazing clients come out and had a great time....soaking wet!

First up R & M. These little cuties are a friend of mines kids. Its been awhile since they have been in front of my camera and even though it was pouring they still kept smiles on their faces. Poor little M was shaking by the end because he was so cold, but he still managed to hang on and finish the shoot!
