E-learning for enhancing management development programme is the new buzzword among corporates these days in the financial services, real estate, retail, telecom, pharmaceutical and FMCG sectors. According to Muralidar Rao, president & COO, NIS Sparta—part of the Reliance ADAG, “About 1,000 small and medium term enterprises (SMEs), including corporates, will look at investing Rs 500 crore in storing and accessing e-learning in the next two to three years.”

As for the rationale behind the move, Rao explained that e-learning will benefit corporates in reducing content time for face-to-face communications as part of the training programme, saving time in commuting and number of days apart from logistics costs as well. E-learning will rather increase business competencies apart from enhancing knowledge skills.

“This year, we hope corporates including SMEs to reduce their content time for face-to-face communication by 66% from 33% reduction, at present. Most corporates prefer video conferencing, experiential training apart from e-learning as an important tool to improve best practices,” he added.

Reliance Communications is all set to start storing and accessing cross-knowledge e-learning this year in order to bring in customer centric culture, improve talent management procedure and create common group culture. Prior to the move, Reliance Capital and Reliance Energy has already introduced this technology.

According to industry sources, in the real estate segment, Delhi-based Unitech is planning to adopt e-learning technology soon. Besides, Videocon Industries in the consumer durables segment is understood to be tapping the e-learning opportunities for enhancing its global competencies.

An IDC report estimates that worldwide revenues from e-learning would be $21 billion by 2008. India is one of the largest Markets in number of users and global elearning players are eyeing this opportunity. CrossKnowledge is a leading European player in distance training solutions.

According to Gartner, “One of the top 10 positions among global 1,000 Companies of the future will be that of an online learning designer. Companies today are vying with each other to be the learning designer of choice and are tying up across the world to deliver their programs.

CrossKnowledge has tied up with NIS Sparta, leveraging the reach and years-long expertise of NIS Sparta to deliver their programs to a large Indian user base. CrossKnowledge is in India to launch over 248 elearning modules in partnership with NIS Sparta, fulfilling both requirements for elearning

I’m sure the world is addicted to Google and it’s services. Googsystray is one app that lets users manage and monitor their Google Services like Google Voice, Google Calendar, Google Wave, Google Reader and Google Mail right from their System Tray. I’ve been using this app for a while now in my Windows system and It’s really useful  and notifies about any new happenings in your Google services.

Googsystray operations are very simple:

All you gotta do is to switch from one tab to another to change the function accordingly, which can also be customized to have a Hotkeys. Besides able to check emails and access services promptly, it also notifies you with customized audible sound or a pop up window when there is any update or change. In order to change the popup settings, just click on ‘Popups’ tab and those settings can be customized based on your own preference.

And I’m pretty sure that it can save you a lot of bandwidth if you are a stuck to Google always!

How to convince a Mac OS X or Windows user to try GNU/Linux? Installing the desired distribution in a Virtual Machine? Read them all those FAQs about partitioning your hard drive for a dual-boot system? No, no – there’s an easier way: live CDs or DVDs! Almost every distribution (like Ubuntu, Knoppix or Fedora) are capable of booting into a fully functional desktop right from a burned disc. Simply download the .iso image file, burn it to a CD or DVD with your favorite disc burning application, and reboot your machine!

But one big disadvantage, especially on older hardware, is the slow startup time. Jamie Bennett, blogger and one of Canonical’s Ubuntu Mobile developers, has explained the difficulties of speeding up the process. Tweaking and speeding the boot time is only possible if you find out why it was slow:

There are two broad steps in the process of booting a live CD. The first is preparing the environment for the session and the second — you guessed it — is actually booting into the session. Initial hunches were that the first step (setup) was the major cause of slowness.

For the tech-savvy out there: the debconf database was slowing the boot. Setting up the session is the responsibility of a project called casper, which is a set of scripts that are run on boot to do such things as unpack the initial file system, add a dummy user, setup languages and keyboard layouts, and so forth.

According to Bennett, tweaks to the debconf database have boosted the live CD startup time nearly 33%! He reports that the original boot process took nearly 3 minutes on a ARM based iMX51 device. With all tweaks applied the boot is now down to 1 minute 53 seconds.

Steve Jobs has been named Mobile Industry Personality of the Year as voted for by the media at Mobile World Congress.

The GSMA announced the winners of the 15th annual Global Mobile Awards at the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This year the new two-part format comprised an afternoon awards presentation hosted by writer, actor and self-confessed technophile Stephen Fry, followed by an evening celebration party hosted by INQ, where winners were entertained with a showcase set from one of the world’s most famous and successful bands, Duran Duran.

The awards presentation included the winners of 19 categories, covering Mobile Marketing and Advertising, Best Mobile Contribution to Social and Economic Development, the Green Mobile Awards, Mobile Personality of the Year, Mobile Innovation and Mobile Entertainment. At the evening event, two highlight awards were presented, the Best Mobile Handset and the Chairman’s Award for outstanding contribution to the growth and success of the mobile industry.

The title was bestowed on Jobs despite his absence. And I strongly believe that Mr. Jobs deserve more than all these! Chak de Jobs! Chak de Apple!

We know, Firefox 3.6 was released on last month (January 2010). And now, Mozilla has let out its much anticipated version, Firefox version 3.7 Alpha.

Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1 is Developer Preview of Gecko 1.9.3. Mozilla advices the normal users, not to use the Alpha version, since its highly unstable and only for developers.

Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1 Gecko 1.9.3 has a really good set of features in it, in which some are as follows:

1. Support for CSS Transitions. This support is not quite complete: support for animation of transforms and gradients has not yet been implemented.
2. Support for SMIL Animation in SVG. Support for animating some SVG attributes is still under development.
3. Support for WebGL, which is disabled by default but can be enabled by changing a preference.
4. Support for the getClientRects and getBoundingClientRect methods on Range objects.
5. Support for the mozMatchesSelector API.
6. Support for the setCapture and releaseCapture methods on DOM elements.
7. Support for the HTML5 History.pushState() and History.replaceState() methods.
8. Support for the -moz-image-rect() value for background-image.
