Winners of the regional fairs may advance to the state level and then to the international competition.  The winning students and their educators will be awarded prize money. Teachers participate in astronaut-style training and simulations along with activities designed for a classroom setting. State Senator Vickie Schmidt and State Board of Education Chairperson Janet Waugh provided remarks and presented the awards at the Brown v Board of Education National Historic Site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;/div&gt; &lt;div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:11;"&gt;The Kansas Schools of Character Award recipients have character education programs which create caring school communities, engage families and community members as partners in character-building efforts, and foster self-motivation.
