Thursday, November 26 at 8:00 p.m. on "Speakers' Forum"
Sarah Vowell, Gloria Steinem, Michael Pollan: you can't make it to every lecture in town but you can hear plenty here. We record talks all over the Puget Sound region, from uber–famous intellectuals to lesser–knowns. From soldiers to urban farmers to humorists; we tape it, then air it on "Speakers' Forum."

Wednesday, November 25 at 9:00 a.m. on "Weekday"
Wind turbines, solar energy and hybrid cars won't be enough to stop global warming. Educating women, feeding the hungry and re–invigorating topsoil may be even more important. World–renowned environmentalist Lester Brown joins us to examine these issues today.

Tuesday, November 24 at 9:00 a.m. on "Weekday"
Attorney General Rob McKenna joins us today. What's the constitutionality of Mayor Nickel's gun ban in public spaces? Will Seattle be responsible for cost overruns on planned infrastructure projects? Also, what popular drink is Attorney General Rob McKenna calling a "recipe for disaster?" Questions? 1.800.289.5869.

The WTO Protests: 10 Years Later

Monday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. on "Weekday"
The 1999 World Trade Organization meeting inspired the largest protest Seattle has ever seen. The streets were filled protestors and armored police. It was a mix of democracy and anarchy. Protestors held firm regardless of tear gas, while opportunists looted stores. Did the protests change the WTO? Did they change you?

Monday, November 23 at 9:00 a.m. on "Weekday"
The Seattle Men's Chorus is celebrating their 30th Anniversary. The group has become the largest gay men's chorus in the world. What has changed in 30 years? How do the issues of AIDS and civil rights relate to music? Today — chorus members share history and stories, and sing songs guaranteed to put you in a holiday mood.

Mind-Bending Models: Gary Faigin's Reviews

Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
Picture a dollhouse with a tiny bed, plastic table and fake wood paneling. Could you ever mistake this as the real thing? Two local exhibits currently on display use photography to play with concepts of scale and reality. Seattle–based artist and critic Gary Faigin joins KUOW's Jeremy Richards to tell us more.

'Mise en Place' for Kitchen Savoir Faire

Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
'Mise en Place' is the secret weapon of every good cook. Literally, it means 'everything in its place.' But, for some chefs mise en place is a religion. That's because if you set up all the ingredients and tools for a menu before you cook, you just might achieve kitchen nirvana.
Seattle chef, food writer and culinary instructor Greg Atkinson has been able to turn out meals...

Finding the Bank Robber in the Sky: The Search for D.B. Cooper

Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
It was 38 years ago this week that Dan Cooper, better known as D.B. Cooper, hijacked a Boeing 727 bound for Sea–Tac Airport in Seattle. Cooper eventually parachuted out of the plane along with $200,000 in ransom money. Some of the money has been found. But not D.B. Cooper. KUOW's Dave Beck spoke with Larry Carr the FBI agent who is committed to keeping the Cooper case...

The Creative Carnage of Smash Putt

Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
Seattle–based artist Rusty Oliver has a national reputation for industrial carnage. For the Discovery Channel show "Weaponizers," he built remote–control cars mounted with guns and flame throwers. Now, Rusty and his team have invented a new sport in Seattle's Georgetown. It's called Smash Putt. It's like mini golf, but instead of windmills and bumpers,...

Smash Putt, Gluttony in Film, and the Mystery of D.B. Cooper

Saturday, November 21 at 12:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
Most people don't use drills or saws to play mini golf. Seattle artist Rusty Oliver wants to change that with Smash Putt. We play a round with Rusty. Later, Warren Etheredge suggests three films that shed light on overeating — just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Plus, 38 years ago D.B. Cooper pulled off an amazing robbery. We meet the FBI agent who's still chasing...

Friday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
There's a reason a brisk post–dinner walk isn't a Thanksgiving tradition. Usually our after dinner traditions involve unbuckling our belts and rubbing our overly full bellies. Warren Etheredge wants to rethink eating at Thanksgiving — and the rest of the year. He runs the Seattle–based movie and entertainment Website The Warren Report. So, he turned to three...

Friday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
University of Washington professor David Levy believes meditation can make multitasking less stressful. He's conducting an experiment with a Zen teacher, a neuropsychologist, and a group of office workers. Later, a tale of finding a pharmaceutical lift that's for the dogs. Then, Warren Etheredge serves up movies that give insight into modern day gluttony.

Friday, November 20 on KUOW
The recent health care debate in Washington D.C. has been filled with political rhetoric. But closer to home, the issue is much more stark.
Thursday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m. on "Speakers' Forum"
More than 60 million women are missing from the world's population today as a result of sex–selective abortion, violence, and unequal access to health care and food. That's according to New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. He contends that the paramount moral challenge for the 21st century is achieving global gender equality.

Opera in Our Native Tongue

Thursday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
It's rare to hear a performance or recording of operas sung in the English language. Most operas are written in Italian, German or French. And most modern opera houses project English translations above the stage using supertitles. But Seattle Weekly music critic Gavin Borchert says new operas are indeed being composed in English. And he feels a special sense of connection...

Northwest Story Time, Local Currencies and Unlocking Opera with English

Thursday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. on "KUOW Presents"
In Northwest Indian Country, this is a time to nestle indoors and tell stories. Native stories help pass on culture and religion to younger generations. But that's become harder in the age of Wii and the iPhone. Later, local currencies may be the latest trend in localism. Then, Gavin Borchert reviews two operas in English that help the art form reach more listeners.

The Art of Maps

Thursday, November 19 at 9:00 a.m. on "Weekday"
What can artists do with maps? What makes maps such a unique art form? Today on "Weekday," we explore the map as art.

Thursday, November 19 on KUOW
Incoming Seattle city attorney Peter Holmes says he's still stunned by his election victory over incumbent Tom Carr. One area where Holmes hopes to bring change is in the city's attitudes toward marijuana enforcement. Holmes says he has no plans to charge anyone with simple marijuana possession. And he's supporting a state bill to decriminalize small amounts of pot altogether....
