Extended Family

Think New Years Eve, 2 parents, 6 kids, their spouses and children and you get one big happy family. My last session of 2011 was a big one. I think it was my largest group to date. The family was all together (not easy to do) and they wanted a family portrait in their yard. They planned everything, even building a swing for their tree the day before.

It all started out with just these two…

and has grown to one big happy family.

Six Months!

Baby Shane is 6 months old. My how the time flies from when they are just a baby bump, then curled up and sleepy, and then sitting up all on their own.

Oh those lashes!

I had to get a few of big sister. She’s always so charming and sweet. I love chatting with her while her little brother gets changed.

I will never ever get bored of photographing newborns. Yes, it takes a lot of patience because you have to wait for them to be ready. You can’t rush it or force it. They are the boss and you follow their command, with a few little tricks to help you on the way.

I know there are hundreds if not thousands of great newborn photographers. I am always amazed by the incredible talent out there, and I don’t claim to be anywhere near the best. When I’m photographing a newborn I like to keep in mind what I would want as a mother. I know that a few years down the road I’ll look back at my children’s photos as a newborn and see the first glimpses of who they have become. I’ll want to see what they looked like, what their facial expressions were, how skinny/chubby/tiny they were. I won’t care as much about cute little hats, fancy backdrops, floors, or props. I just want to see them, and remember their sweet smell, the way their soft hair felt on my cheek as I snuggled with them on the couch, and the hours and hours I spent watching their faces as I fed them. That is the reason why I try to keep simplicity in my photography. The baby is the star. Their beauty is what is the most important. I hope the people that come to me to capture their little ones will always treasure those first portraits of their babies, stopping time in a small way for them to remember their own star.

Family at the Ranch

I think the Cronquist Family is my most photographed family. You can see them here, here, here, and in 2 other places much further back in the blog. They are always lots of fun, and Katie is so amazing at putting together the best looking outfits that not only look amazing as a group, but also fit well with the location. If you need help choosing your clothing for your photo session you should really think about hiring her to help you.

This session was a gift for Grandma (which is a wonderful idea). Her two sons and their families were together for the Holidays and we had a fun, fast pace session.

They are a huge fan of the silly faces. If you don’t at least smile when you see the next 2 images please seek help.

Little E is a photographer’s dream. She’s beautiful, gentle, dainty, peaceful and precious beyond words. She’s about 4 months old now, but here she was at a only 1 week old.

I photographed this cute little guy’s big sister and big brother as babies. They all have gorgeous blue eyes, blond hair, and sweet gentle personalities. Now their mother has a complete set of photos of all her children at 10 weeks old.

My Girls

Just after the new year my girls both have birthdays. This year I took them out one gorgeous sun-filled evening together for a little photo session, just the two of them as newly 7 and 12 year olds. The light was magical, and they were their usual beautiful happy selves. We had time to talk, laugh, and enjoy some Campbell girl time. They are so much fun. I love their unique and adorable little personalities, they way their noses crinkle when they smile a real smile, and most of all that I get to be their mother. I will cherish these images forever, especially the ones of the two of them together. Having sisters of my own I know how important that relationship can be. I hope they are best friends their whole lives.
