Jobs portal giant CareerBuilder has teamed up with eQuest to offer a global listing distribution option.

Through the partnership, CareerBuilder customers who use eQuest are now able to post to 17 CareerBuilder portals across the UK, Canada, the Gulf area, and a number of European countries at no extra charge.

A statement from the companies explains that in a 2010 CareerBuilder survey of business leaders in the UK, 25 percent hired someone from outside their country in the last year, and 55 percent would consider doing so. CareerBuilder says surveys in other European markets showed similar results.

“The agreement between CareerBuilder and eQuest comes at a time when global expansions and the growing demand for specialised skills have companies looking beyond their own backyard for talent,” said Tony Roy, president of CareerBuilder EMEA. “Clients who use eQuest can extend their reach without extending their wallet and build a broader talent pipeline in multiple markets.”

US-based job board consultancy Job Board Doctor has released its latest “Job Board Future” report, showing that recruitment spending is static for job boards but going up for social media and referral programs.

Job Board Doctor gathered 275 responses from job seekers, job board operators and employees, and HR and recruiting professionals to create the report, finding that most job seekers use three or more job boards in their search.

In terms of social networks, LinkedIn and Twitter are the primary channels used for recruiting. Most job board operators said they were planning to add new social media features during the next year.

The survey also covered the .jobs top-level domain, finding that less than seven percent of HR or recruiting professionals have purchased these domains for their organisation.

Full results from the Job Board Future report can be accessed after signing up here.

UK classifieds website gumtree.com has teamed up with with careers expert John Lees to create five job seeker guides and a new career finder survey available at gumtree.com/jobs.

gumtree.com says the career finder survey has been developed to broaden the number of roles jobseekers can apply for by helping them to identify their core skill sets and pair them with various industries. The survey asks job seekers 50 questions to measure their skills in a number of different areas, then provides them with a suggested career path.

“Not many people know that gumtree.com is already one of the UK’s biggest jobs websites,” gumtree.com’s Sam Taylor told onrec.com. “In July of this year alone 2.7 million job seekers used the site.”

The addition of these new resources follows gumtree.com’s study of HR professionals and job seekers which revealed that the most valued online services when searching for a job online were suggestions of jobs that matched one’s skills (77 percent) and practical advice on getting a job (63 percent).

UK jobs portal jobsite.co.uk has been selected as a mobile app partner for the release of the new Windows Phone 7, which launched yesterday.

jobsite.co.uk explains that it was chosen as part of a select group of companies that provided apps for launch including Tesco, BBC and National Rail.

Along with a listing search, jobsite.co.uk’s app also features content from the portal’s BeMyInterviewer tool, which helps candidates prepare for interviews with interactive video content from leading bosses and organisations including Duncan Bannatyne, Virgin Atlantic and Sky.

“When comparing the traffic to jobsite.co.uk via mobile and desktop we can see a clear trend for people to use their phones on the commute to and from work, and also later at night when working on a computer is less convenient,” says Keith Potts, jobsite.co.uk’s managing director. “In a jobs market which is still competitive, having this increased access to new jobs is extremely important.”

Adding to its extensive advertising push over the past few months, UK jobs portal reed.co.uk is launching its second annual short film competition.

The online competition asks film makers to create a short film centred on the theme “Mondays.” A panel of judges will choose the winner of the £10,000 grand prize. £1,000 will also be awarded to the winners of the People’s Choice award, Judges’ Commendation award and Best Animation award.

“Not only is it an excellent opportunity for reed.co.uk to engage with a wider audience through alternative media channels, including YouTube and Facebook, but it gives reed.co.uk a platform to support creativity and the arts,” says Mark Rhodes, the portal’s head of marketing.

A new IT job board has been launched for the Australian market at zipster.com.au, offering listings for AUD$15.

The new job board went live last month and is offering developers a free API for creating client applications.

Job seekers can search listings through a simple keyword and location search, advanced search options, or a “browse” menu. zipster.com.au is also distributing its listings to Twitter, Indeed, and SimplyHired.

zipster.com.au joins two other niche Australian job boards that have launched this year: dairy jobs board findamilker.com.au, and Microsoft jobs board jobping.com. All these websites are operating in a market that continues to be dominated by seek.com.au.

Gannett adds that its digital operating revenues totalled US$157.7 million compared to $143.0 million in the third quarter last year, and that this 10.3 percent increase reflects “very high single-digit revenue growth” at careerbuilder.com as well as double-digit revenue growth at PointRoll.

Overall, Gannett’s third quarter profits were up by 38 percent. Chairman and CEO Craig A. Dubow says this was partially due to lower operating expenses driven by continued cost control efforts.

US-based jobs search engine linkup.com has completed what it describes as “seemingly endless” negotiations to finally gain access to the listings on usajobs.gov.

In its October newsletter, linkup.com says the Department of Labor contracts with Monster Worldwide to operate usajobs.gov, and that Monster has prevented search engines from including these jobs in their indexes.

“I’m not surprised Monster blocks search engines since [Monster] stands to make more money by selling posts on monster.com,” linkup.com quotes an “industry insider” as saying. “By blocking search engines, the government jobs aren’t going to get into organic search results except through monster.com.”

Now it has gained access to usajobs.gov, linkup.com says it will include job listings from 341 different divisions of the federal government.

“We’re still working on getting 100 percent of each job listing,” says linkup.com’s Eric Caron, “but this is a tremendous stepping stone in our goal to have every job in the US on our site.”

linkup.com concludes that the inclusion of usajobs.gov’s listings in its search engine means that discussions with a number of federal agencies regarding paid search campaigns can finally resume.

UK print and online publisher Trinity Mirror has just announced that it has taken full control of fish4.co.uk – a portal that covers jobs as well as real estate, cars, holidays, and personals.

fish4.co.uk was first established in 1999 by Trinity Mirror along with Newsquest Media Group, Northcliffe, Regional Independent Media, Bristol United Press and GMG Regional Media. More recently, Trinity Mirror held a 50 percent joint venture interest in the business alongside Newsquest.

A Trinity Mirror spokesperson told mediaweek.co.uk that the fee paid to Newsquest for their fish4.co.uk stake was “nominal.” Trinity Mirror says fish4.co.uk will now sit alongside the brands in their digital classified portfolio including GAAPweb, totallylegal, SecsInTheCity and smartnewhomes.com.

According to David Black, Trinity Mirror’s group director of digital publishing, the acquisition of fish4.co.uk is partially aimed at strengthening Trinity Mirror’s position in the online recruitment space, as the website currently attracts over 3.3 million job seekers each month.

“fish4.co.uk is an excellent addition to our digital portfolio,” Black states. “The acquisition demonstrates continued progress with our strategy of building a growing digital business of scale, and increasing our share of the online recruitment market.”

paidcontent.org adds that the personals side of the fish4.co.uk business has been outsourced to WhiteLabelDating.
