Hilarious.

Recently there was this campaign run by Aircel, a major telecommunications operator in India, to save our tigers. Their slogan read : "Save Our Tigers. Just 1411 left. You can make a difference."

I was talking to my friend regarding this. He was totally oblivious to this fact, and asked me a question "Are there only 1411 tigers left in India?". I replied in the affirmative and pat came the reply "Ahh! Then don't worry about it, it's taken care of, since there must be many more roaming around abroad." I laughed my heart out.

Somewhat related to this is the following bit. A few days back one of my friend had this as his status message on Gtalk : "Forget the tigers, save the girls. There are only 824 girls left per 1000 boys in India." A fact which doesn't portend well for the future.

Here I am.

Nobody is done till he is done,
Nobody is gone till he is gone,
Being inactive doesn't mean that I am bygone.
This post should convey the message to everyone.
So, is there anybody who wants to listen to me, anyone?

yeh nahi hain sirf chand sitare .......

maa ne apne bete ko pyaar bhari nazron se dekha,
use nihaarte hue apne paas bulaya,
aur zameen par letate hue, so jane ko kaha.
isse dekh nanhe balak ne apne maa se poocha,
"maa, kahan hai meri chadar, kahan hai mera takiya"
maa ne uske prashn ko nakarte hue kaha "soja mere rajkumar, soja",
yeh rajkumar lekin hatt kiye hue tha,
mano usi samay, jaise is maa ki duvidha ko aur nahi dekh paye,
saare badal haule haule chhatne lage,
poonam ka chand, apne sitaron ki toli ke saath ubharne lage,
aur dheere dheere poora aasmaan sitaron se jagmaga utha,
yeh dekh balak apni maa ki taraf dekhne laga,
thoda tutlaya aur bola,
"maa kya aaj chand mera takiya ???"
maa ne apne rajkumar ki hi aankhon main uske prashn ka uttar paya,
unhone kaha "keval aaj nahi roj, chand tera takiya,
aur pata hai kya"
balak ne muskurate aur jaldi se baithhe hue poocha "kya kya"
"aur sitare teri chadar"
apne prashnon ka uttar pakar rajkumar jaise tript ho gaya,
apni aankhon ko band kar let-te hue kaha,
"chand mera takiya aur sitare meri chadar".
chaand ka takiya, sitaron ki chadar.

French Open 2009 - 1

Sania Mirza got kicked out of the French Open today. For those who hasn't understood what I am referring to, the following quotes may help :

Mulayam Singh : "I am just a servant of India and it's people. I am not projecting myself as the PM of India."

Mayawati "Behenji" : "I am not saying that I am want to become the PM of India. It is just media hype."

Sharad Pawar : "I will take whatever is given to me by the janta. If it's the post of PM I am ready to accept it, but I am not vying for it."

And there are a few more from the other distinguished politicians. Nobody is asking these nutcases, but still they were coming up saying that they are not interested to become the PM of India, and all of this during the run-up to the elections. The truth, which we all very well know, is that they all are salivating at the very same prospect. Hypocrisy at it's very best.

A great day for Force India.

Today Force India Formula One team did quite well in the Monaco Grand Prix. First both the drivers got in second qualifying stage which in itself is quite an achievement. From there on both of them managed to finish the race and to top that Giancarlo Fisichella finished ninth just a position away from winning the first Formula One points for Force India. Now, you must be thinking why to use it when all its doing is acting as the interface between Google and yourself and giving you the same results. Well you nailed it, the answer lies in the interface itself. Blackle is a very simplistic website with just a slight change. Instead of the typical black text on white background, Blackle does just the opposite. The question now is why are they doing it. After some study it was found that generating white colour consumes more energy as compared to the colour black. So when much of the website space has it's background visible it does make more sense to have the white text on black format. This helps to save some energy and as per the website estimates they are saving some. And the magnitude of people using Google Search is a lot so if they can get a sizable proportion of the same the reduction in the carbon footprint can be quite good. Well there is a counterargument regarding the readability of white text on black background. I didn't face any problems in that and since you are not facing any issues either while reading this very blog, it is just a nonsense issue raised by a few people. So go check this out.

Blackle homepage : http://www.blackle.com
If you are interested then something about Blackle can be found at : http://www.blackle.com/about/

bhaat, makhaya, chamka, peace ......

For some the blog title says it all. For the rest to whom it doesn't make any sense here's the eye opener.

These words refer to the lingo being used in IIT Kharagpur, and I am quite a fan of them which is evident in the frequency with which I still use them, even after 2 years of passing out of college. Here's a lowdown on their meanings :

Bhaat is one thing that we do very often, or I should say the only thing that we do [;)]. To put in simple terms bhaat means gossiping. It may be a discussion of anything under the sun.

Makhaya generally depicts an act in which a person messes up. He/She doesn't do as per expectations and so earns the wrath of other people.

Chamka means to get "enlightened". When somebody understands something after a long time it's known to be "chamakna".

Load signifies the condition in which there is too much pressure of something or tension over some matter.

Peace should be self-explanatory. Well, peace is the opposite of load. It also has an additional usage as "peace maroo" to signify a person who doesn't take too much tension.

Kata is the equivalent of cancel in our lingo. As this is my first blog I would like to start with a bit about of the environment we live in. Speaking on the people of my generation - young, earning decent money, living in urban cities - I think that we sometimes tend to forget about the environment in the mad rush of consumerism. We forget that we also have the responsibility to care and nurture it just the way it nurtures us. We, educated people should understand its importance even more and start doing something so that it doesn't only remain a thought but a reality. I will not get too preachy but just wanted to convey a thought which is very close to my heart.
