In the meantime, I wanted to share a few images from a fun project I took on last year in the early (earlier than we realized. Crazy to think these were more than a year ago.) days of the pandemic. I called it Front Porch Portraits, and with it raised some money for PORCH. If you aren’t familiar with PORCH, they are a grassroots organization, begun right here in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, that is doing great work to serve the hungry in our communities, especially families and refugees. An essential organization, made even more essential in these extraordinary times. I enjoyed doing these so much. For some, it was a reason to finally put real clothes on. Some families embraced the barefoot and pjs all day reality of quarantine. And others infused their own creativity into their portraits. I loved every single one.

I met this mama wayyyy back in college when we were art students abroad in Italy. It doesn’t seem THAT long ago, does it K? Until we look around and these husbands and little girls, then yeah, it was a LIFETIME  ago. But a good one, for the most part. I love that our friendship has continued and I love seeing you with your family because I know that is what you are really all about.

It’s one of those annoying cliches that turns out to be true. Blink. Your newborn is walking. Blink. Third grade recital. Blink. Teenaged angst. Blink. Graduation.

Blink. My sweet friends with whom I shared many fun, single adventures are now the parents of these personality-packed kids.

Thanks for the honor of  chasing them down and capturing a little bit of this time. And for allegedly trespassing on a shut-down federal park with me. Who says our adventures are over?

Ugh. I’ve tried to avoid the pitfalls.

And, yet. I have three kids. I have a business. I have familial, social, and community obligations. I even have a husband who enjoys spending time with me when I’m not a tornado of activity and logistics. In an effort to keep this particularly busy season sane, I’m limiting the number of sessions I’m going to accept. Below is the basic run down. This family embodies Emerson’s words. I loved this session so much I will let the images do most of the talking. I will say that this gorgeous family made my job easy, and that I have never seen a toddler so completely joyful and fearless in the ocean.

When she told me there was a jungle in their backyard, I thought she was exaggerating.
