I was moving my first trailer load of house stuff for the day, nicely driving out of Ellenbrook when all of a sudden there was the load bang underneath my Jeep followed by a constant whacking and loss of forward momentum. I new instantly what it was, a driveshaft blow out! Pulled over and stuck my head under the Jeep to see the drive shaft hanging down in shame as the rear u-joint had let loose. On close inspection the clamp bolts into the yoke where loose with no sign of any threadlocker. WTF! The guys that installed the SYE must have missed the “apply threadlocker” step. I bashed the crap out my muffler when it let loose, maybe a good excuse for an upgrade.

Went into bush mechanic mode and slung the shaft up so it would turn and not thrash the Jeep to death and managed to limp home in front wheel drive mode. Very sad, took 40 minutes to travel what would have normally have taken 5 minutes.

$38 for a new u-joint from 4WD USA.

Moral of this story? Preventative maintenance. Check that your NUTS are tight! or more correctly bolts in this case.

Finally bought a NAS, ended up going with the Synology DS210J, a two bay NAS with alot of great functions Picked it up off Ebay for $300 delivered. Will see how this one goes with plans to get a 4 bay version a bit latter on.

So far so good! I’ve been able to turn off my PC and stream my media from the NAS instead.

Setting up BitTorrent Client

Installed Transmission Package from SynoBlog

Flexget from http://flexget.com/

RSS Feed – http://ezrss.it/feed

Transmission Config not sticking

Need to make sure that Transmission is not running before editing the settings,json file otherwise all changes will be lost. Supposdly a known bug. Stop and start the Transmission Service by the Package Management Panel.

Flexget Config

/root/.flexget/config.yml

set up symlink (soft) to Tranmission settings.json

ln -s /usr/local/transmission/var/settings.json trans.json

UPnP Indexing Issue

Discovered a small issue whereby the files in the Video UPnP directory were not being shown on my XBox. Found that due to them being downloaded by Transmission they weren’t being indexed. you can run the synoindex routine to update the index, but figure that its just as easy for my current setup to just map a SMB drive from the XBox.

Next Step

Updating Block List via scheduled script so that it gets updated on a regular basis. (Stop and Restart Transmission?)

http://pastebin.com/jLqT3qxL

wget -q -t 3 http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz

CRON Issues

When attempting to schedule Flexget via CRON I found that me CROBTAB kept on being reset on reboot. Very frustrating! CRONTAB gets interogated on reboot and if the system finds that it is incorrectly formatted it sets it to the default CRONTAB (ie. Blank)

You need to be very exact in the formatting. Using vi as the editor and tabs instead of spaces and being very careful has worked for me.

I gave this black Rav 4 1COH-835 the horn after getting rudely cut off when he changed lanes in front of me without looking. This Tool didn’t really like that and proceeded to give me the bird. I really wasn’t in the mood as it was a Monday after work and the only thing on my mind was picking my Ash up from daycare. I changed lanes again as traffic was slowing, our friend in the Rav decided to erratically change lanes in front of me again and slow down! WTF? Meh, I was turning right further up so stayed right. Rav tool continued to drive like an idiot trying to make sure I didn’t get past, even staying in the right hand lane right up until the traffic lights and then turning left, go figure!
Funny ran across the idiot the next day and took photo for the record.

Recently when setting up some Reporting to be controlled by ControlM/EM I experienced an issue using the IBM supplied trigger.sh script. It worked perfectly well when using a single word Namespace, but once we tried against a two word Namespace it failed.

All documentation that I found on the web and in the supplied manuals indicated that a two word Name space should work by just putting it in quotes. Nup, No Way, FAIL! This might work OK under a Windows environment but not AIX.

The problem is that the IBM Supplied script does not handle spaces in positional parameters, the line towards the bottom of the script is coded as;

${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java -classpath ${CLASSPATH} Trigger ${1} ${2} ${3} ${4} ${5}

So it thinks it is getting 6 arguments instead of 5 when handling the Namespace of “Novell eDirectory” and instantly fails as it only expecting 5.

A quick and simple change to make it work was to change it to;

${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java -classpath ${CLASSPATH} Trigger "$@"

This retains the space when parsing the parameters. Sweet! All Good!.

If you have a car that stands out from the pack, take this bit of advice, don’t drive like a moron! Whether it’s modifications, personalised plates, luxury/performance car, or better still a luxury/performance car with personalised plates, anything that makes your car more memorable than the average Joe, will make it easier to identify you and for someone you have pissed off to reap their revenge. I continue to be amazed by the behaviour of many drivers of easily identifiable cars, with Road Rage becoming so much more prevalent, the very appearance of their car coupled with their driving manner may be putting them in peril. When I drive my TJ around I try to be the model driver, last thing I want to do anything is enrage someone, 4WD drivers get a bad enough rap as it is. For some reason when people get behind the wheel they can totally loose their shit at the smallest of things, they become bigger, braver and totally irrational. Don’t make yourself a target!

Here are a couple of Arsehole drivers I have identified this week;

M3 Driver of MJH-786. We already think you are a big douche because of your choice in wheels and the plates, don’t enforce that by changing lanes erratically and cutting people off!

Silly woman driving a Grey Falcon XR6?? with “EGOMANIA” plates, isn’t it enough that you drive a stupid bogan car, with stupid bogan plates, do you have to drive like a stupid bogan beyotch? I see this car on a regular basis, always driving like she owns the road. SILLY WOMAN!
