Jamroom Battle 1.0.0b11 is out!

I've decided on one more Jamroom Battle beta release before the "final" release which should be out next week:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&item_id=144

I've fixed numerous small issues related to round movement and credit handling, and everything is looking pretty good here on this end. If you've had issues with the round movement being "weird", this release should fix it up for you (or at least that's the goal!).

Also note that I did uncover one potential "issue" that cannot be handled in the module - if your server time is OFF (or has drifted), then you will see the rounds begin/end before the timer has finished counting down, or it may reach zero and sit there - this is due to the time "drift" between the client and server (the countdown timer is a javascript based countdown timer, so gets it's time fro the client). If you see this, have your hosting provider run "ntptime" on your server to ensure your server's clock is synchronized with the NTP time servers.

For those of you that have been waiting too long for this release, once again I thank you for your patience and apologize for how long it has taken to get everything working on this module. In hindsight, looking at the number of features and options that are in this module, I can say I "bit off more than I could chew" ;)

Please let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks!

The New Jamroom FlowPlayer module has been released!

I've just uploaded the very first release of the new Jamroom "FlowPlayer" module to the Marketplace!

Many of you that are long time Jamroom users know that this is something we've been working on for some time, but the recent versions of the Flow Player have finally been updated to work properly with an RSS based playlist format. This was needed in order to allow the player to work with our {jr_flash_player} function.

Note that the FlowPlayer is an [b:d234a24d32]extremely[/b:d234a24d32] configurable flash player, and really shines as a Video player, so Jamroom sites that feature a lot of video will want to check it out.

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&item_id=253

What the FlowPlayer module does is make it so the FlowPlayer, in it's simplest use, can be dropped in for playing songs, radio stations, videos and TV Channels. The player can do A LOT more than that, but that's all we've been able to work into the {jr_flash_player} embed function, since most of the advanced functionality of the FlowPlayer must be scripted using Javascript. For all of the details (and other plugins that are available) for the FlowPlayer, make sure and check out their site:

http://flowplayer.org/index.html

What you get with the FlowPlayer module is a [b:d234a24d32]fully licensed[/b:d234a24d32] version of the player that would normally set you back $95 for your domain.

After purchasing the module you will receive a license code via email - you will need to use that to download the module, then you will also enter that license key into the module's control panel - that will contact the Jamroom.net site here which in turn will generate the unique code that is needed by the player on your site to function properly. After the code has been generated the player will function on your site.

I know it's been a long time coming, and I'm really happy that the FlowPlayer team was finally able to address the playlist issues that were present in previous releases, which in turn allows it to finally work properly in Jamroom.

As the first release, we're also offering te module at a $10 discount, so if you've wanted the FlowPlayer for your site, now is the time to grab it ;)

If anyone has any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks!

The Jamroom Groovydisk module has been released!

I have just uploaded the new Jamroom Groovydisk module to the Jamroom 4 modules page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Marketplace_Modules

This is the first release of the module (version 1.0.0), but it should be working very well. This module allows your Jamroom artists to create a "release" in the Groovydisk game, which is launching very soon on the Apple App store. At this point the Groovydisk iOS client is complete, we have 30+ artists already loaded, and we're currently loading more artists into the game for the launch, which should happen within the next two weeks.

So we're looking for Jamroom sites that want to get their artists into the game - here's what we need:
[list:4aa0f56541]
[*:4aa0f56541]You need to be running the Jamroom Mobile module - users will be able to jump to your mobile site from the client.
[*:4aa0f56541]You should be running an "English" Jamroom site - future versions of Groovydisk will be multilingual, but right now only English is supported by the client.
[*:4aa0f56541]There is NO NEED for you to have an iPhone/iPod or iPad, although if you do and would like access to the game shoot us an email at support@jamroom.net and we'll get you the app.
[*:4aa0f56541]We're looking for [b:4aa0f56541]high quality[/b:4aa0f56541] artists, with quality recordings of at least 3 tracks.
[/list:u:4aa0f56541]
To make it a bit more fun, I'm going to be sending out a $100 Amazon.com Gift Card to the first site that can get 50 of their artists to successfully enter a Groovydisk - and I'll probably throw something in for the second place site as well ;)

So send us your artists! If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks!

There will be no Support Center or Email support on the following days:
[b:89a9099f47]November 25th, 2010[/b:89a9099f47]
[b:89a9099f47]December 24th, 2010[/b:89a9099f47]

The User Support forum of course will be online for anyone that would like to jump online and help out fellow Jamroom users, but Support Center tickets opened on those days (as well as email sent to support@jamroom.net or sales@jamroom.net) will be responded to the next day that we are online, so please plan your site activity accordingly.

The Jamroom 4 Core Downloads page has just been updated with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.2.3:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release addresses the few issues that have come up over the last month since the release of Jamroom 4.2.2 as well as adds some new features and changes:
[list:60f97eb9dc]
[*:60f97eb9dc]The "Red Nebula", "Cocoon" and "Diamond" styles for the Nova profile theme have now been developed for use throughout the entire Nova skin and control panel as well - there is a new "Site Style" setting in the System Config -> System Skins -> Nova "settings" section that allows you to enter the style you want to use on the skin and control panel.

[*:60f97eb9dc]New changes are in the beginning stages of how Jamroom will handle Profiles that have been set as "private". Previous to Jamroom 4.2.3, setting a profile private simply meant that users that were not fans or friends of the profile couldn't view the profile directly, but that profile's media items could still be displayed through the skin using ranking calls, etc. With Jamroom 4.2.3, any profile that has set their profile has private will no longer have any items show in ranking system calls. This will be getting fully developed out for Jamroom 4.3 that will attempt to make it so fans/friends viewing ranking system output will see any private profile they are a fan of.
[/list:u:60f97eb9dc]
For a full list of changes in Jamroom 4.2.3, make sure and check out the Jamroom Tracker:

I've just updated the Jamroom Marketplace with the latest release of the Jamroom Battle Module - version 1.0.0b10. This is the [b:3cce6788bb]tenth[/b:3cce6788bb], and hopefully final, beta release of the all new Battle module. New changes include:
[list:3cce6788bb]
[*:3cce6788bb]New battle begin/end/round-over countdown timer
[*:3cce6788bb]New button flash player for battle view mode
[*:3cce6788bb]Updated so both entry fee and battle purse can be done in User Credits

I just finished rolling out a new, updated design for Jamroom.net that also includes a number of new "backend" features that are going to make maintaining and updating the site much easier going forward - especially documentation.

You'll see a number of "tweaked" items around the site as well that should make things a bit easier - for example, the "Account Info" section now includes direct links to download any licensed addons and marketplace items, as well as offers an overview if your Affiliate information. There are also some updated links that should (hopefully) get you what you are looking for a little bit easier.

I would highly recommend doing a full browser "refresh" on the site (i.e. press your refresh button) on pages if they look a bit out of whack - there's been a number of image and icon updates, but these items may already be cached by your browser.

Please let me know any feedback you have or if you see anything that's not working.

Thanks!

Jamroom.net Updates

I've rolled out some new updates to the Jamroom.net website that I wanted to touch on in announcement post:
[list:2d81a9ca3d]
[*:2d81a9ca3d]A new [b:2d81a9ca3d]Jamroom Webmaster Package[/b:2d81a9ca3d] has been introduced (it replaces the Jamroom Gold package) that is 1 step below the Jamroom Pro package - this is geared towards webmasters who are looking to modify one of the core Jamroom skins and don't need the Jamroom Skin pack.

[*:2d81a9ca3d]The Jamroom Support Center has been updated with some enhancements to make updating tickets a bit easier by reverse sorting the updates so the latest update is always at the bottom, right above where your update would go. There is also now a direct button link back to the ticket browser.

[*:2d81a9ca3d]The Jamroom Store has been updated and there is no longer a "Jamroom Tune Up" option - instead, we have dropped the price of the 30 day support center access to $40 (from $45) - instead of being asked to purchase a Tune Up if you would like us to check out your server, you'll now want to purchase the 30 day Support Center access. This will really help us as it will give our team a better place to "track" any back and forth communication related to the issues you are seeing.

[*:2d81a9ca3d]The Jamroom Guaranteed Install and Standard Upgrades services have been rolled into one new service called the "Jamroom Install/Upgrade".

[*:2d81a9ca3d]The Jamroom Silver and Bronze packages have been removed.
[/list:u:2d81a9ca3d]
I think the big change here is the removal of the Tune Up option and replacing it with 30 days of Support Center access, and helps bring up my next point.

If you do NOT have Support Center access, please make sure that [b:2d81a9ca3d]all[/b:2d81a9ca3d] Jamroom related questions or issues are posted here in User Support forum - we've seen a large increase in the number of users that are simply sending us their FTP information and asking us to fix their server or help them customize their site. Note that when an email is received at support@jamroom.net that was not requested by one of our team members, we will respond by asking you to post to the User Support forum, or open a Support Center ticket. So in order to receive the fastest support, please make sure that if you have Support Center access that you always open any issue there.

If anyone has any questions or comments please feel free to post here.

Thanks!

This new release, version 4.2.1, addresses the few issues that have come up since the release of Jamroom 4.2.0 back on August 3rd. Most notably:
[list:231326f1e1]
[*:231326f1e1]The Cluster/Conversion server has been updated with a new tool that will properly write the FLV header information for converted FLV videos. FFMpeg has a hard time with the "duration" field in FLV headers depending on the type of input video. This new metadata injector should fix that.

Note that you need to be running [b:ed563308c5]Jamroom 4.2.1[/b:ed563308c5] for this module to work properly with Battle Entry fees (this means you need to apply the testing release of 4.2.1 to your Jamroom 4.2.0 install first).

Updates include:
[list:ed563308c5]
[*:ed563308c5]Language strings have now been translated properly in modules/jrBattle/language/english.lang.php
[*:ed563308c5]Works with User Credits and the PayPal Pro module (if you are using the PayPal Pro module, you need to upgrade to PayPal Pro 1.2.2 that was also just released).
[*:ed563308c5]Has a new config setting to push a battle start time off by 24 hours if there are no entries (request)
[*:ed563308c5]Many other small bug fixes in the round movement, battle creation and battle entry
[/list:u:ed563308c5]
Please let me know if you see any issues with this latest beta - my hopes are to have this module out of beta as soon as possible.

Thank you all for your patience on this as well - I think this is by far the longest "beta" we've ever had ;)

Thanks!

Jamroom 4.2.0 has been released!

I have just finished updating the Jamroom 4 Core Downloads section with the first non beta release of Jamroom 4.2.0!

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This release culminates over 4 months of development on Jamroom 4.2.0, and is by far the largest "minor" release we have ever done - really, it's a "minor" release only in it's version number ;)

This new release adds many new Jamroom features and updates - with big ones including:
[list:ebac8b1a3f]
[*:ebac8b1a3f]All new Jamroom User Credit system (Jamroom Payment Pack)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]All new Digital Store for selling merchandise with item sales tracker (Jamroom Payment pack)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]New AudibleMagic copyright detection support (Jamroom Cluster/Conversion Server)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]New update Newsletter manager with new Send filters (Jamroom Core)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]All new Progress Meter and Conversion status setup (Jamroom Power Pack)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]Major "unbranding" of Jamroom Control Panel (Jamroom Core)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]All new Javascript and CSS handlers (Jamroom Core)
[*:ebac8b1a3f]Plus dozens of more tweaks and updates
[/list:u:ebac8b1a3f]
For a full list of changes, make sure and checkout the Jamroom Tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse

Like I mentioned above, this is a [b:ebac8b1a3f]big[/b:ebac8b1a3f] release, and includes many updates to the existing Control Panel templates, as well as skin templates, so upgrading to Jamroom 4.2.0 is going to require some [b:ebac8b1a3f]planning[/b:ebac8b1a3f] - since some of these items have changed, simply updating the "core" will make it so some parts of your Control Panel may not function properly.

[b:ebac8b1a3f]Important #1[/b:ebac8b1a3f] If you are using a non-Jamroom.net provided skin, please make sure you find out if your Skin and theme templates have a Jamroom 4.2.0 upgrade available for them [b:ebac8b1a3f]before[/b:ebac8b1a3f] doing the upgrade to Jamroom 4.2! Since there are new template components required to properly support Jamroom 4.2, you're going to want to make sure you have those on hand before attempting an upgrade. If you are using a customized version of one of our skins, you can update your Control Panel template by updating to the new version of templates located in jamroom/skins/Skin_Name/cp (big ones are the "form.tpl" file and "update.tpl" file - with changes to show user Credit located in the "header.tpl" file).

[b:ebac8b1a3f]Important #2[/b:ebac8b1a3f] - Also - make sure that you have a BACKUP of your existing Jamroom scripts and templates before attempting an upgrade as well (ideally you should have a complete backup of your entire system available). While we have been upgrading existing Jamroom sites for well over a week now and are having very few issues, we also know that there are literally thousands of hosting combinations out there that we have not been able to test on, so please be prepared!

[b:ebac8b1a3f]Important #3[/b:ebac8b1a3f] - Some Jamroom modules are going to require updates to work with Jamroom 4.2.0 - I'll be adding those to the Marketplace shortly, so after upgrading you will want to make sure and check out the Marketplace for any module updates you might need.

If you are unsure about upgrading your site, you might be interested in having us do it for you by purchasing the "Jamroom Standard Upgrade" from this page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Purchase?4

We schedule upgrades on a "first come first served" basis, and we've seen A LOT of inquiries about this over the last couple of weeks, so if it's something you think you want to do, I would highly recommend getting your order in quickly, as we'll probably be scheduled out a week in advance within the next 24 - 48 hours (your patience with us as we work through the anticipated backlog is appreciated too!)

I hope you all enjoy Jamroom 4.2 - and thank you all for your patience during the beta period.

Rock on!

- Brian

p.s. Every once in while as a developer you come across a tool that simply [b:ebac8b1a3f]makes your job easier[/b:ebac8b1a3f], and it's not often that I post about it, but for Jamroom 4.2 we're using a new binary "packager" for those of you running Jamroom's cluster server. It's called "Magic Ermine":

http://www.magicermine.com/?jamroom

and if you are a developer that needs to redistribute binaries for the Linux platform, do yourself a favor and check it out - it allows you to create a "universal" binary that runs on all Linux kernels since 2.4 ;)

It seems hard to believe that it has been 7 years since the first release of Jamroom - version 1.0b1 on July 28th, 2003 - we've come a VERY long way ;)

We have quite a few Jamroom customers who have been with us since the beginning - I want to say thank you to you as well as everyone else for all your support and help over these years to get Jamroom where it is now - your invaluable feedback, guidance and support has been what keeps Jamroom growing, expanding and getting better all the time.

Thanks everyone!

The latest release of the Jamroom Facebook module is now online in the Jamroom Marketplace:

[b:e3ea2f7c02]This release contains an important security update![/b:e3ea2f7c02]

If you are running the Jamroom Facebook module version 1.1.1 it is important that you upgrade to this new release right away - there is a potential security vulnerability in version 1.1.1 that could allow users to gain access to other users accounts. Versions older then 1.1.1 are not affected.

Please let us know if you see any issues with this new release.

Thank you!

Jamroom 4.2.0 beta 5 is now online!

I just uploaded the latest Jamroom 4.2.0 beta release - number 5 - to the Jamroom Test releases page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Test

This latest beta addresses any open/known issues based on the feedback we have received so far, as well as continues to "refine" several areas.

Note that at this time we are aware of a new progress meter issue that is affecting users on Pacifichost - they are working with the vendor of their web server (Litespeed) to try to find out why it is happening - if you are currently on Pacifichost and experiencing Progress Meter issues, you'll want to disable the progress meter until a workaround is developed.

Our original goal was to have Jamroom 4.2 released by the 27th, but it has now been pushed to next Tuesday, August 3rd - we know that many of you are excited to upgrade right away, so more time has been allotted for extra "last minute" testing - we want to make sure the upgrade process is as painless as it can be.

If anyone sees any issues with this latest beta release, please let us know ASAP.

Thank you everyone for your patience!

The Jamroom Marketplace has been updated with the latest version of the Jamroom Facebook module, version 1.1.1:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&category=Jamroom+4+Modules

This new release adds the ability to for the module to capture the user's email address if one was not available from Facebook Connect - it will let the user know that they need to enter a valid email address to create their account. It will drop them into their User Config section as well after validation, so they can change their password.

This new release also updates the {jr_fblike} functionality so it defaults to the "standard" Facebook "like" button that will show small profile pics of Facebook user's that "liked" it.

Please let us know if you see any issues with this new release.

Thanks!
