Jamroom 5 Beta 7 has been released!

I have just updated the Jamroom 5 Downloads page with the latest version of Jamroom 5 - beta 7:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

This new beta release brings a ton of new functionality, 2 new modules and a lot of skin updates, as well as some core changes that you will want to be aware of:
[list:3538e4ec8e]
[*:3538e4ec8e]New [b:3538e4ec8e]jrStore[/b:3538e4ec8e] module for selling physical goods has been included in the SuperPack. Allows your artists to sell T-Shirts, etc.
[*:3538e4ec8e]New [b:3538e4ec8e]jrFoxyCartBundle[/b:3538e4ec8e] module allows you to create "bundles" of items that you can sell at different prices than the cost of the individual items. Includes direct support in the audio and video "create album" forms for selling albums at a different price than the individual songs/videos.
[*:3538e4ec8e]The new [b:3538e4ec8e]jrSage[/b:3538e4ec8e] skin has been made a stand-alone skin, and the CSS is no longer a part of the jrFlashback skin. Note that there has been a [b:3538e4ec8e]core change here[/b:3538e4ec8e], and skins no longer support "multiple CSS styles" (it never worked right anyway and made the core code to handle it significantly more complex).
[*:3538e4ec8e][b:3538e4ec8e]Important change to how you show a user's "Home" keys in a skin[/b:3538e4ec8e] - previously there were some "home" variables that you could use to display a user's home profile name (for example) - there is now a new {jrUser_home_profile_key} template function that must be used to grab this info - check out the included jrElastic skin (or any skin in the super pack) for an example on their use.
[*:3538e4ec8e]the [b:3538e4ec8e]jrComment[/b:3538e4ec8e] module has been updated and all comments now post via an AJAX view - this means when commenting on an item such as a song, the page will not refresh and stop the audio player - a much better user experience.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Updated cache system that should be more intelligent about what profile items are included in lists, and reset the cache accordingly when profile data changes. JR5 is designed to have [b:3538e4ec8e]caching on at all times[/b:3538e4ec8e], so make sure unless you are developing that you are running with caching enabled.
[*:3538e4ec8e]the core "privacy" functions have been overhauled and should work better now.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Added in new "play keys" to media streaming to try and prevent sharing of media streams.
[*:3538e4ec8e]All new album and playlist "re-ordering" - if you are a profile owner (or admin user), on the album view and playlist view you can now simply drag and drop the entries to re-order them.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Power User setup has been redone and should actually work now :)
[*:3538e4ec8e]SoundCloud tracks can now be included in Playlists.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Simplified the [b:3538e4ec8e]jrEvents[/b:3538e4ec8e] module - additional fields are now setup in the Form Designer and can be enabled (you may only see this on a new install at this time).
[*:3538e4ec8e]Skin screenshots are now supported in the "info" tab for a skin - all skins now include screenshots. To add screenshots to an existing skin you can create 4 screenshots named "screenshot#.jpg" where # is a number 1 - 4. They should be placed in your skin's img directory.
[*:3538e4ec8e]New [b:3538e4ec8e]"Live Search"[/b:3538e4ec8e] form field for use by module developers allows for an AJAX based "live search" text entry field. You can see this in action in the updated jrPrivateNote module. Note that this field is not a form designer field, as it requires a constructed view for the live search results.
[*:3538e4ec8e]The ability to create a video album and upload multiple videos in one shot has been added to the jrVideo module.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Video screen grab now works properly for uploaded FLV videos.
[*:3538e4ec8e]Bug where all quota access options would be turned off on Integrity Check for a brand new install has been fixed.
[/list:u:3538e4ec8e]
There's a ton of other small tweaks and fixes throughout all modules as well - and a lot more "polish" to the way a lot of things work.

If anyone has any feedback, runs into any issues, or has any questions, please make sure and post to our Jamroom 5 support forum:

http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=24

and we'll help. With this release we believe the beta period is soon going to be coming to a close, so if you have not picked up the Jamroom 5 Super Pack (26 modules + 3 skins), now is the time to do it - [b:3538e4ec8e]the Jamroom 5 Super Pack will not be available once Jamroom 5 is out of beta![/b:3538e4ec8e]

Thanks everyone - we hope you all enjoy the new release!

Jamroom 5 Beta 6 has been released!

I've just updated the Jamroom 5 downloads page with the newest version of Jamroom 5 - beta 6.

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

This comes pretty quickly on the heels of beta 5, but we wanted to get this release out quickly as it has a change to the minimum required PHP version. [b:4adaf2dca8]Going forward Jamroom 5 will require PHP 5.3+[/b:4adaf2dca8] - several of the contributed libraries we are using require "namespace" support in PHP, and that in turn requires PHP 5.3. So those of you running on PHP 5.2 (or older) will need to contact your hosting provider and find out if they can update your server to PHP 5.3 (or 5.4). Note that PHP 5.2 was deprecated 2.5 years ago, so your hosting provider should already be running PHP 5.3.

New changes in Jamroom 5 beta 6 include:
[list:4adaf2dca8]
[*:4adaf2dca8]new [b:4adaf2dca8]jrTrace[/b:4adaf2dca8] event tracer module. The Event Tracer will log registered events to a DataStore so they can be listed - this allows you to create lists like "who is listening to songs right now", "These users just logged in", etc. - There's only a few traceable events at this time but we'll be adding more into the modules over the next few releases.
[*:4adaf2dca8]New Clone Quota and Quota Transfer tools in the Quota Browser (work just like their JR4 counterpart).
[*:4adaf2dca8]New Artist "earnings" section in the FoxyCart module - i.e. foxycart/earnings - we don't have this linked up to a menu item yet but we'll get that in by the next beta.
[*:4adaf2dca8]New global config option in FoxyCart config to prevent popup cart on add-to-cart clicks - instead you will just get a little "added to cart" success overlay. When ready to checkout you can click on the cart icon.
[*:4adaf2dca8]New ability to create lists out of Ratings - you'll see a new "recently rated" section in the Elastic profile that shows what items users in the profile have recently rated.
[*:4adaf2dca8]New notification options for when a comment is posted to an item a user has created, as well as when your profile is "mentioned" in an activity stream. Both are present in the Notifications section for the user account.
[*:4adaf2dca8]System should work 100% over SSL/non-SSL with zero config. You can switch back and forth between the 2 whenever you need (requires an SSL enabled web server).
[*:4adaf2dca8]New DataStore functions: jrCore_db_delete_multipleItems() (does what it sounds like it does) and jrCore_db_get_items_missing_key() (gets all items that do NOT have a specified key value).
[*:4adaf2dca8]TONS of other tweaks and fixes based on feedback from our beta testers.
[/list:u:4adaf2dca8]
There are a couple of other [b:4adaf2dca8]important changes[/b:4adaf2dca8] that need to be mentioned if you are upgrading:
[list:4adaf2dca8]
[*:4adaf2dca8]The way the "Allow Access" quota setting was being created has been changed to a registered module feature - this means that after installing Beta 6 you will need to go back into your Quota Config for EACH MODULE and make sure the "Access Allowed" setting is either checked or left unchecked, depending on if you want the quota to have access to the module.
[*:4adaf2dca8]The [b:4adaf2dca8]jrNewsLetter[/b:4adaf2dca8] was incorrectly named "JrNewsletter" (note the lower case L) in a previous release. DELETE THE EXISTING jrNewsLetter module and update to the one included in Beta 6 - otherwise you will get a PHP error.
[/list:u:4adaf2dca8]
I want thank everyone for all the feedback we've been getting over the last few weeks about Jamroom 5 - we're using that feedback to make sure we're going to deliver an awesome system to everyone, so please keep the feedback coming.

If you run into any issues with the new beta 6, please post to the Jamroom 5 Beta forum:

http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=24

and we will follow up.

We hope you enjoy the new release!

I've just finished updating the Jamroom 5 downloads page with the latest Jamroom 5 beta release - beta 5:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

This new release adds a TON of new functionality and features, as well as fixes bugs that have been reported to date. Some highlights:

[b:a471ad324a]New in the Jamroom Core[/b:a471ad324a]
[list:a471ad324a]
[*:a471ad324a]New "jrChainedSelect" module for creating select form chains (i.e. the choice in one select form element changes the options in the "chained" select form element).
[*:a471ad324a]Performance and bug fixes in the Data Store - systems should be faster and more responsive.
[*:a471ad324a]Updates to jrDeveloper module to bypass all caching (as long as developer mode is checked) - this really helps during development.
[*:a471ad324a]new {jrFollower_following_count} smarty function for getting following counts for a user_id.
[*:a471ad324a]A ton of bug fixes and tweaks to make everything work better
[/list:u:a471ad324a]
I've also uploaded the latest version of the [b:a471ad324a]Jamroom 5 Super Pack[/b:a471ad324a] - we've added and updated almost every module included, as well as added a bunch of new features:
[list:a471ad324a]
[*:a471ad324a]New [b:a471ad324a]jrFoxyCart[/b:a471ad324a] module for adding sales and subscriptions to your Jamroom - note that this is the FIRST release of this large module, and we'll be working on it extensively over the next week to make sure it is solid.
[*:a471ad324a]new [b:a471ad324a]jrUpimg[/b:a471ad324a] module - upload images directly from within the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor.
[*:a471ad324a]new [b:a471ad324a]jrSeamless[/b:a471ad324a] module - combine multiple Data Store list calls into one to create powerful listing options.
[*:a471ad324a]new [b:a471ad324a]jrRecommend[/b:a471ad324a] module for recommending music to viewers based on artist influences.
[*:a471ad324a]new [b:a471ad324a]jrMailGun[/b:a471ad324a] plugin module for adding MailGun email support to the core.
[*:a471ad324a]all new [b:a471ad324a]jrFlashback[/b:a471ad324a] Skin - this is a Jamroom 5 version of the Jamroom 4 Flashback skin - it also includes the "Sage" CSS theme. This skin has been designed as a replacement skin for the Jamroom 4 Flashback, Sage and Cobalt3 skins.
[*:a471ad324a]updated jrEmbed module allows embedding of media into posts created in the TinyMCE editor.
[*:a471ad324a]major updates and enhancements to the jrOneAll module for linking up to 20 different social networks for logging in, signing up and posting to a user's activity stream.
[*:a471ad324a]all new jrVideo "dark" video player skin + MP4 conversion support for mobile devices.
[*:a471ad324a]updated jrNewsletter module now with better unsubscribe setup and delivery options.
[*:a471ad324a]too many other tweaks, bug fixes and updates to list.
[/list:u:a471ad324a]
So we added a bunch of new stuff to the Super Pack (bringing it to 24 modules and 2 skins), which is an awesome deal - if you have not picked up the Super Pack yet, I'd recommend doing so soon - this is likely the last beta release before Jamroom 5 comes out of beta - at that time you will no longer be able to buy the Jamroom 5 super pack.

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_store&o=cart_add&item_id=35

I [b:a471ad324a]highly recommend[/b:a471ad324a] that everyone do a fresh install of this release - it's not required, but we've tweaked a lot of the existing menus and templates, and it may require some manual DB changes if you want to remove stuff from previous installs (mainly in the jr_jrcore_menu table).

If anyone has any questions about Jamroom5 beta 5, please make sure and [b:a471ad324a]post any issues or questions in the Jamroom 5 Beta forum[/b:a471ad324a]:

http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=24

All of us on the JR team hope you enjoy this new beta release of Jamroom 5!

Thanks!

Jamroom 5 Beta 4 has been released!

The Jamroom 5 Downloads page has just been updated with the latest version of Jamroom 5 - beta 4:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

This also includes an updated Jamroom 5 Super Pack that has a new module and skin:
[list:cb0f2fd0ac]
[*:cb0f2fd0ac][b:cb0f2fd0ac]jrVideo[/b:cb0f2fd0ac] - this is a beta release of the new Video module that supports on-server conversions to convert uploaded video files to both FLV and MP4 (it converts to both so the FLV can play in flash enabled browsers, and the MP4 can be played on iOS devices). Note that there is "stub" support for the forthcoming Video Conversion service we'll be offering that will be able to convert to higher quality video as well as support progressive streaming for higher quality on mobile devices.
[*:cb0f2fd0ac][b:cb0f2fd0ac]jrNova[/b:cb0f2fd0ac] - This is a JR5 version of the Jamroom 4 "Nova" skin
[/list:u:cb0f2fd0ac]

There is also a TON of fixes in all modules and the core, so everyone running any version of JR5 is advised to upgrade. I'd also recommend a completely fresh install if you can, as there have been some small changes in the form designer and dynamic menus that will look a little better on a fresh install.

If anyone has any questions or issues related to this new beta release, please let us know in the Jamroom 5 beta forum:

http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=24

and we'll get it fixed up.

Up next for beta 5 we have the new jrFoxyCart module (for payments and subscriptions) we're working on, as well as our new backend services. Douglas is hard at work on building the new jrFlashback skin, which will include CSS for the "Sage" style as well, so those of you running Cobalt3/Flashback/Sage on JR4 will have a nice JR5 skin that maintains the main design of those JR4 skins.

Thanks everyone for your patience while we've been working on this new beta, and let us know about any issues you run into.

Thanks!

Jamroom 5 Beta 3 has been released!

I've just finished updating the Jamroom 5 downloads page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

with the latest release in the Jamroom 5 beta - beta version 3. This new release fixes a bunch of issues that have come up during the beta, as well as includes a lot of important low level work and changes.

[b:8a9afa340e]Jamroom 5 beta 3 includes Breaking Changes![/b:8a9afa340e]

If you are running any version of JR5 you will need to do a complete re-install to move to JR5 beta 3. I really tried to avoid having to do this, but performance testing uncovered some low level issues with the new DataStore setup that requires new DS schemas for all modules. After we are out of beta, any major changes like this will be handled by an upgrade script, so we won't have to deal with a full re-install again. So sorry for any hassle that may cause.

Improvements in JR5 beta 3 include:
[list:8a9afa340e]
[*:8a9afa340e]Much better performance on large installs (20,000+ profiles)
[*:8a9afa340e]jrAudio module now extracts embedded APIC images in MP3 files and will use that as the cover image if a cover image is not uploaded.
[*:8a9afa340e]Lots of template improvements for mobile/tablet viewers
[*:8a9afa340e]New Dashboard section in 'Dashboard' showing overview of site stats and server health
[*:8a9afa340e]Updated System Check in core tools shows installed modules + versions
[*:8a9afa340e]Tons of other bugs fixes and tweaks
[*:8a9afa340e]move to unified jrCore_register_module_feature function to replace jrCore_register* functions
[*:8a9afa340e]A lot of work went into getting things working really smoothly and ironing out bumps in places, so overall things are looking really nice.
[/list:u:8a9afa340e]
[b:8a9afa340e]New Comments module in Super Pack![/b:8a9afa340e]

For those of you that have purchased the new JR5 Super Pack, we've include another new module in the pack for you - [b:8a9afa340e]jrComments[/b:8a9afa340e] - this is a new comment module that does not rely on a 3rd party comment service like the jrDisqus module does. If you've already purchased the Super Pack you'll find the new Comments module in the latest Beta 3 Super Pack download.

For those of you that have not purchased the JR5 Super Pack, you can still do so while we are in the JR5 beta period. The Super Pack includes [b:8a9afa340e]17 different addon modules for Jamroom 5[/b:8a9afa340e], and can be purchased for only $99:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_store&o=cart_add&item_id=35

The Super Pack is [b:8a9afa340e]only available during the beta period![/b:8a9afa340e] Once JR5 is out of beta it will no longer be available, so get it while you can! :)

If anyone has any questions or feedback on the new beta, please post to the Jamroom 5 beta forum:

http://www.jamroom.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=24

and we will help out.

We hope you all enjoy the new release!

Thanks!

Jamroom 5 Beta 1 has been released!

I've just finished creating the new "Jamroom 5 Download" section here:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads5

that contains the first [b:60fdd83450]beta[/b:60fdd83450] release of Jamroom 5 !!!

I'm really excited that we are finally to the point of getting the new JR5 into beta and getting it into the hands of more users. To say it's taken longer to get to this point than we had initially thought would be an understatement - I think we all underestimated the amount of work that would be required to create an entirely new system from the ground up. However after several months of work I think we have an absolutely awesome foundation and core. So a big round of kudos to Douglas, Michael and Paul for putting in a ton of hard work to get us to this point.

With all that said, here's some thoughts and details on the new release (in no specific order):
[list:60fdd83450]
[*:60fdd83450]The new Jamroom 5 Core consists of 12 modules that are designed to be a great foundation for building almost any type of site. With JR5 our plan is to create addon "packs" that are geared towards specific site types - JR5 is a great core for building much more than just music sites now. Our first pack is going to be a "super pack" put together just for existing JR4 customers - it contains a ton of extra stuff (more details below).
[*:60fdd83450]A lot of JR5 modules have been redesigned and "rethought" from the ground up. Our focus is on making the user experience much cleaner and simpler than JR4, while at the same time trying to maintain as much "power" as possible in the core.
[*:60fdd83450]As a site admin you're going to find that there's less options and settings for many things - we're trying to make running and operating a JR5 site much easier. We've taken the guesswork out of how a lot of things work, and while I think some of you are going to be looking for more options, give it it a chance and I think you'll see how streamlined a lot of things have become.
[*:60fdd83450]There's a ton of new features and fixups, too numerous to list here - if you haven't run any JR5 release yet, make sure and download and check out the new JR5 beta - we've come [b:60fdd83450]A LONG[/b:60fdd83450] way since the last alpha release.
[*:60fdd83450]For developers, make sure and check out the new "API Docs" section in the Developer module (part of the new core) - many of our modules now have their own API documentation that can help you know what all the new functionality does and how it works.
[/list:u:60fdd83450]
Now that the JR5 beta 1 is out, we're going to be moving into a regular release schedule going forward. The plan is to have a new beta release every 1-2 weeks until we get to the first non-beta version of JR5 - after that we'll move into a regular release schedule for JR5 maintenance, as well as a release schedule for new features (more info on this will follow).

[b:60fdd83450]Jamroom 5 Super Pack[/b:60fdd83450]

Along with the new JR5 beta 1 release, we've also put together a special package for existing JR4 license holders - we're calling it the "Jamroom 5 Super Pack". This pack will [b:60fdd83450]only be available during the JR5 beta[/b:60fdd83450]. The Jamroom 5 Super Pack contains the following [b:60fdd83450]16[/b:60fdd83450] Jamroom 5 add on modules:
[list:60fdd83450]
[*:60fdd83450]jrAudio - Full Audio support with audio conversions.
[*:60fdd83450]jrGallery - Image Galleries (includes multiple uploads for creating large image galleries in 1 shot)
[*:60fdd83450]jrPlaylist - an awesome viewer playlist module - create and share playlists across the system using a slick AJAX interface.
[*:60fdd83450]jrCharts - chart anything that has counts in your system.
[*:60fdd83450]jrVimeo - Vimeo video support

[/list:u:60fdd83450]
Once we are out of beta all of these modules will be available individually or as part of other packs - this is the only time we're going to offer them all in 1 big pack for [b:60fdd83450]$99[/b:60fdd83450]. We're really excited about JR5 and hope many of you will support us in this new release.

To get your hands on new Super Pack, click on the following link to add it to your cart:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_store&o=cart_add&item_id=35

For now we will be sending out the Super Pack manually as we're still working on getting the new module/installer system online, so give us a little bit to get it to you.

Those of you with keen eyes may have noticed the jrVideo module missing from the list - it's in the works as handling video for all devices (mobile and browser) requires a much more complicated setup than in JR4. We'll be rolling out the jrVideo module along with our new conversion service that will feature full video conversions for all devices.

If anyone has any questions about JR5 or about anything, please follow up here and we'll get right back to you.

For those of you celebrating, on behalf of all of us here, we hope you have a great holiday and new year!

Welcome to the Jamroom 5 alpha!

Hello everyone!

Sorry for this being such a long post - there's a lot to cover here :)

A couple of months ago we announced the new Jamroom Network team, and at the same time indicated that Jamroom 5 was going to be released to beta on August 31st. Well, today being August 31st we figured we better get Jamroom 5 (or what we have of it so far) into the hands of some users so we can get your feedback. So up front I have to apologize, as Jamroom 5 is really more of an "alpha" at this state than a beta.

After our announcement 2 months ago, we knew we had set up an aggressively short amount of time to get the work done we felt was needed for Jamroom 5. Just like I had done a year earlier, our initial work was to simply "expand" Jamroom 4 to Jamroom 5 - but once again we quickly ran into the same issues I had run into a year ago that was going to make much of it difficult, if not impossible, for us to pull off.

So the decision was made (again) to do something new and exciting - something that can lay the ground work for the next 10 years of Jamroom - a completely new Jamroom built from the ground up. While this an exciting position from a development standpoint, it was also a very hard decision from a Jamroom perspective - I've always tried very, very hard to make sure any new release of Jamroom is fully backwards compatible with previous Jamroom releases (i.e. up to Jamroom 4 you could still run Jamroom 1 themes!). With Jamroom 5 however, it is a [b:11f16f3e75]new system[/b:11f16f3e75], and is not backwards compatible with existing Jamroom skins and modules. I know for a lot of you this is going to be disappointing, as you've invested a lot of time, work and energy into your existing Jamroom 4 sites - that's why we have no plans to discontinue Jamroom 4 support, but instead will continue supporting Jamroom 4 with bug fixes and tweaks for the foreseeable future.

However, going forward the future definitely will be with Jamroom 5 - we're going to work hard to get modules and skins supported that will allow many of you to update your sites to Jamroom 5 (an upgrade path will be coming along once we feel the core offers a good assortment of modules and skins, etc.).

The new Jamroom 5 core is very, very streamlined from Jamroom 4, and from the ground up has been built as a modular system to be fast, configurable and easy to develop. One of our biggest goals with Jamroom 5 is to broadly expand the number of developers creating products for Jamroom - in order to appeal to developers however, we needed the development process for modules and skins to be MUCH easier.

Some of the high level Jamroom 5 changes include:
[list:11f16f3e75]
[*:11f16f3e75]Simplified skin development - no more "themes", just a "skin" for the entire site. The admin can customize the site CSS, templates and images right in the admin control panel.
[*:11f16f3e75]Simplified module development with the new schema-less "DataStore" for storing module data.
[*:11f16f3e75]New [b:11f16f3e75]Power Lists[/b:11f16f3e75] (akin to JR4 ranking system) allows you to list, search and sort on any bit if data you would like that a module manages.
[*:11f16f3e75]multiple "master" admins and "profile" admins
[*:11f16f3e75]simplified media handling
[*:11f16f3e75]the Jamroom 5 Core is [b:11f16f3e75]open source[/b:11f16f3e75] (MPL)!
[*:11f16f3e75]Plus a ton more
[/list:u:11f16f3e75]
Jamroom 5 is a really fun core to work with - if you are a Jamroom 4 module developer or are interested in Jamroom 5, make sure and join in our alpha.

With all that said, we're [b:11f16f3e75]opening the doors today[/b:11f16f3e75] to the first batch of alpha users that want to help us with getting things ironed out in Jamroom 5. Ideally we are looking for users that can install Jamroom 5 and play around with it and provide us feedback on what you like/don't like, or any issues you might see. It would help if you are comfortable installing and updating scripts on your own server via FTP, and are willing to spend some time learning something new.

[b:11f16f3e75]Please send us an email at support [at] jamroom [dot] net with your EMAIL ADDRESS you want us to send the Jamroom 5 core to[/b:11f16f3e75], and your forum user name - we'll get you a copy of the latest Jamroom 5 core that you can play with. We have some last minute cleanup that needs to happen this weekend, but copies will be heading out on Monday. Note too that for the first few days here we may limit it to a few users until we're sure its ready for more wide-spread usage, so please bear with us if we don't get you your copy of Jamroom 5 right away.

I want to thank the rest of the Jamroom Network team for their hard work on Jamroom 5 - I've been very busy the last 2 months and they have really picked up and ran with the new system, which really validates that the new venture was a really great idea :)

Thanks everyone - please feel free to post any questions you might have - I'm certain I have overlooked something in my post here and we can clarify any questions that might come up.

On behalf of the entire Jamroom team, welcome to Jamroom 5!

Jamroom 4.3.0 has been released!

I have just updated the Jamroom 4 Core Downloads page:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

with the latest release of Jamroom + addons, version 4.3.0. This new release brings several bug fixes, enhancements and new features that Jamroom power users are going to find useful:
[list:9a8cd0f83c]
[*:9a8cd0f83c][b:9a8cd0f83c]Action Comments[/b:9a8cd0f83c] - Jamroom now supports comments on user actions.
[*:9a8cd0f83c][b:9a8cd0f83c]New "unique" Ranking System parameter[/b:9a8cd0f83c] - this is a really powerful new option that allows you to "collapse" a ranking system list on a specific column from the primary DB table for the ranking system mode, which will then "unique" that column so only one result is returned of each type. This can be used to create categorized lists (for example) providing drill down menus, etc.
[*:9a8cd0f83c][b:9a8cd0f83c]Easier to include vars in {jr_ranking}[/b:9a8cd0f83c] - a new updated "shorthand" way to include additional variables into a ranking system embedded template, allowing for more dynamic ranking calls using fewer row templates (for example).
[/list:u:9a8cd0f83c]
Plus there are quite a bit of fixes and updates as well to make everything run smoother. For a full list of changes, make sure and check out the Tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/Tracker

If anyone has any feedback on the new release, please let us know - we hope you enjoy the new release.

Our attention now is going to squarely move to Jamroom 5 to get it ready for an end of August beta release, so please stay tuned as we have some really cool things coming shortly!

Thanks everyone!

- Brian

p.s. Note that changesets for Jamroom 3 have been discontinued - if you are upgrading to Jamroom 4.3.0 from any version of Jamroom 3, you will want to download the full install ZIP files instead. Our stats here show very, very few of you are still running Jamroom 3 - if you are, now is a good time to upgrade ;)

Announcing The Jamroom Network Team!

I am super excited to finally announce a major change that has been in the works for over a month now - [b:92e41ca40f]The Jamroom Network![/b:92e41ca40f] The Jamroom Network is the new name that we are operating under, as we have re-organized and formed a new team to support Jamroom, and I couldn't be more excited.

Many of you long timer Jamroom users know that for most of the past 9+ years that the Jamroom "team" has mostly consisted of myself, and part time support/development help from Kyle and Greg, and up until a year ago, full time support help from Douglas. In the last 2 years I've been on a mission to try and find an alternate income source for my company - trying to keep it alive as sales of Jamroom have declined. One of those products I rolled out in February is a mobile "backend as a service" solution called Trestle that really took off, and culminated in the product and the Trestle team (myself included) being acquired by another company, which we are super excited about. However, this has placed me in a position where my ability to support Jamroom (which was already minimal) was going to be very, very hard.

First and foremost I really don't want to let anyone down that is depending on Jamroom for their business - I've felt the need and pressure to get back to regular Jamroom releases and improve the support back to where it used to be some time ago, but due to time constraints have been struggling to do so on my own. So about a month ago I floated the idea of forming a new team with a select group of long time Jamroom contributors where we all have an equal share in making Jamroom awesome, and they all agreed. I'm really, really happy about this as I think it keeps Jamroom in the hands of developers who really care about seeing Jamroom succeed, and each of us knows many of you on a personal level - the alternate option of selling Jamroom.net and the Jamroom product on something like Flippa always worried me as I could not be sure a new owner would treat our existing customers well.

So to make the "long story short" we have a [b:92e41ca40f]new 5 person team[/b:92e41ca40f] consisting of the following people:
[list:92e41ca40f]
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Brian[/b:92e41ca40f] - here from the beginning I am still going to be involved with Jamroom, and will be handling most of the research and development needed for Jamroom 5 and beyond.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Douglas[/b:92e41ca40f] - "SixString" is jumping back in full time on custom design, development and customer support. He will lead our customer service efforts to make sure no one does it better.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Michael[/b:92e41ca40f] - most of you know Michael as "ussher" from Apicos and the forums - Michael brings a deep knowledge of Jamroom and module development to the team, as well as awesome marketing skills. Michael will be handling the Jamroom development roadmap as well as marketing.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Paul[/b:92e41ca40f] - "pasher" from Motagator - Paul is a long time Jamroom developer and supporter (Jamroom's 3rd customer from 2003!) and is going to be doing Jamroom support, development and heading up our (coming soon) entirely new 3rd party developer program.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Huw[/b:92e41ca40f] - "zorag" from Oinkba Design - many of you are running Oinkba skins in your Jamroom since they look awesome, so you'll be excited to know that Huw is bringing his excellent design skills to the Jamroom team and will also be running the day to day operations.
[/list:u:92e41ca40f]
This also includes changes for 2 other long time Jamroom helpers:
[list:92e41ca40f]
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]daddysylem[/b:92e41ca40f] - Greg is going to continue creating and supporting his flash players under the DS Players brand, and will be creating new players for Jamroom 5.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]smith.kyle[/b:92e41ca40f] - Kyle has started his own 3rd party company for supporting his Jamroom related products - the jrTwitter module and another module coming soon I think everyone will like. He will be joining N8Flash Design as one of the initial 3rd party developers that we are working with on the new 3rd party developer program (more to come on this soon).
[/list:u:92e41ca40f]
So there are quite a number of changes coming quickly here, all with the goal of getting Jamroom back on track to being the best and most configurable media system you can use. Some things that we are working on and that are coming soon:
[list:92e41ca40f]
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Monthly Jamroom releases[/b:92e41ca40f] - we need to get back to regular "point" releases of Jamroom to make sure you are all running the fastest, most stable system possible. This starts with the Jamroom 4.3.0 release which is on track for release in the next week or so.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Jamroom 5[/b:92e41ca40f] - Jamroom 5 is currently in the works and will go public beta on [b:92e41ca40f]August 31st![/b:92e41ca40f]. I know many of you have been waiting for Jamroom 5 for a VERY long time, and I hate to ask you to wait 2 more months, but we have an ambitious plan in place and want to be sure it is awesome.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]Improved support[/b:92e41ca40f] - with outstanding coverage across time zones we're going to live up to and exceed the customer support levels many of you have come to depend on over the years.
[*:92e41ca40f][b:92e41ca40f]New 3rd party developer program[/b:92e41ca40f] - we are going to be creating a new Jamroom 3rd party developer program that is designed to encourage developers to build awesome things with Jamroom - you'll see this coincide with Jamroom 5 and will result in higher quality products available in the Marketplace.
[/list:u:92e41ca40f]
And that's not all - we have several other Jamroom related projects underway that will be announced shortly.

I know this is a very long post, but it's full of a lot of good news I wanted to share with everyone. I'm personally really happy about this as I am going to continue to be involved with Jamroom, but am now joining up with a dedicated team who are not only fantastic at what they do, but are also friends.

So please say welcome to the new Jamroom team - we're looking forward to many years of growing Jamroom ;)

Thanks everyone!

Jamroom Battle 1.0.0b11 is out!

I've decided on one more Jamroom Battle beta release before the "final" release which should be out next week:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&item_id=144

I've fixed numerous small issues related to round movement and credit handling, and everything is looking pretty good here on this end. If you've had issues with the round movement being "weird", this release should fix it up for you (or at least that's the goal!).

Also note that I did uncover one potential "issue" that cannot be handled in the module - if your server time is OFF (or has drifted), then you will see the rounds begin/end before the timer has finished counting down, or it may reach zero and sit there - this is due to the time "drift" between the client and server (the countdown timer is a javascript based countdown timer, so gets it's time fro the client). If you see this, have your hosting provider run "ntptime" on your server to ensure your server's clock is synchronized with the NTP time servers.

For those of you that have been waiting too long for this release, once again I thank you for your patience and apologize for how long it has taken to get everything working on this module. In hindsight, looking at the number of features and options that are in this module, I can say I "bit off more than I could chew" ;)

Please let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks!

The New Jamroom FlowPlayer module has been released!

I've just uploaded the very first release of the new Jamroom "FlowPlayer" module to the Marketplace!

Many of you that are long time Jamroom users know that this is something we've been working on for some time, but the recent versions of the Flow Player have finally been updated to work properly with an RSS based playlist format. This was needed in order to allow the player to work with our {jr_flash_player} function.

Note that the FlowPlayer is an [b:9b7ff0cbbd]extremely[/b:9b7ff0cbbd] configurable flash player, and really shines as a Video player, so Jamroom sites that feature a lot of video will want to check it out.

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_market&o=browse&item_id=253

What the FlowPlayer module does is make it so the FlowPlayer, in it's simplest use, can be dropped in for playing songs, radio stations, videos and TV Channels. The player can do A LOT more than that, but that's all we've been able to work into the {jr_flash_player} embed function, since most of the advanced functionality of the FlowPlayer must be scripted using Javascript. For all of the details (and other plugins that are available) for the FlowPlayer, make sure and check out their site:

http://flowplayer.org/index.html

What you get with the FlowPlayer module is a [b:9b7ff0cbbd]fully licensed[/b:9b7ff0cbbd] version of the player that would normally set you back $95 for your domain.

After purchasing the module you will receive a license code via email - you will need to use that to download the module, then you will also enter that license key into the module's control panel - that will contact the Jamroom.net site here which in turn will generate the unique code that is needed by the player on your site to function properly. After the code has been generated the player will function on your site.

I know it's been a long time coming, and I'm really happy that the FlowPlayer team was finally able to address the playlist issues that were present in previous releases, which in turn allows it to finally work properly in Jamroom.

As the first release, we're also offering te module at a $10 discount, so if you've wanted the FlowPlayer for your site, now is the time to grab it ;)

If anyone has any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks!

with the latest release of Jamroom - version 4.2.4. This releases fixes A LOT of small issues that have come up over the past several months, so make sure and check out the Tracker:

http://www.jamroom.net/index.php?m=td_tracker&o=browse&v=4.2.4

I want to thank Kyle for all of his hard work on this release, as this is the first release that was (almost) completely handled by Kyle - thanks Kyle!

I also know that that was the longest time between releases in the 8 year history of Jamroom - we won't go that long again ;)

Thanks everyone for your patience on this release - please let us know if you see any issues.

Thanks!

I've been meaning to post this the last couple of days, and am doing it right now before I forget again ;) Like we did last year (for the first time), we're going to be taking a few days off to celebrate the holidays with our families this year:

There will be no Support Center or Email support on the following days:
[b:89a9099f47]November 25th, 2010[/b:89a9099f47]
[b:89a9099f47]December 24th, 2010[/b:89a9099f47]
[b:89a9099f47]December 25th, 2010[/b:89a9099f47]
[b:89a9099f47]January 1st, 2011[/b:89a9099f47]

The User Support forum of course will be online for anyone that would like to jump online and help out fellow Jamroom users, but Support Center tickets opened on those days (as well as email sent to support@jamroom.net or sales@jamroom.net) will be responded to the next day that we are online, so please plan your site activity accordingly.

Everyone here on the Jamroom team hopes you have a great holiday season wherever you are ;)

Jamroom 4.2.3 has been released!

The Jamroom 4 Core Downloads page has just been updated with the latest release of Jamroom 4 - version 4.2.3:

http://www.jamroom.net/Downloads4_Core

This new release addresses the few issues that have come up over the last month since the release of Jamroom 4.2.2 as well as adds some new features and changes:
[list:60f97eb9dc]
[*:60f97eb9dc]The "Red Nebula", "Cocoon" and "Diamond" styles for the Nova profile theme have now been developed for use throughout the entire Nova skin and control panel as well - there is a new "Site Style" setting in the System Config -> System Skins -> Nova "settings" section that allows you to enter the style you want to use on the skin and control panel.

[*:60f97eb9dc]New changes are in the beginning stages of how Jamroom will handle Profiles that have been set as "private". Previous to Jamroom 4.2.3, setting a profile private simply meant that users that were not fans or friends of the profile couldn't view the profile directly, but that profile's media items could still be displayed through the skin using ranking calls, etc. With Jamroom 4.2.3, any profile that has set their profile has private will no longer have any items show in ranking system calls. This will be getting fully developed out for Jamroom 4.3 that will attempt to make it so fans/friends viewing ranking system output will see any private profile they are a fan of.

For a full list of changes in Jamroom 4.2.3, make sure and check out the Jamroom Tracker:

If anyone has any questions about this release, feel free to post here, otherwise please post any issues you encounter to Help forum and we can assist.

I hope you enjoy the new release!

Jamroom Battle 1.0.b10 has been released!

I've just updated the Jamroom Marketplace with the latest release of the Jamroom Battle Module - version 1.0.0b10. This is the [b:3cce6788bb]tenth[/b:3cce6788bb], and hopefully final, beta release of the all new Battle module. New changes include:
[list:3cce6788bb]
[*:3cce6788bb]New battle begin/end/round-over countdown timer
[*:3cce6788bb]New button flash player for battle view mode
[*:3cce6788bb]Updated so both entry fee and battle purse can be done in User Credits
[*:3cce6788bb]Other small bug fixes
[/list:u:3cce6788bb]
If you are running the Battle Module, please download this latest release and put it through it's paces - I'd like this to be the last beta release, and get the first non-beta of 1.0.0 out very soon.

Thanks everyone for your patience on this - let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks!

New Jamroom.net Look

I just finished rolling out a new, updated design for Jamroom.net that also includes a number of new "backend" features that are going to make maintaining and updating the site much easier going forward - especially documentation.

You'll see a number of "tweaked" items around the site as well that should make things a bit easier - for example, the "Account Info" section now includes direct links to download any licensed addons and marketplace items, as well as offers an overview if your Affiliate information. There are also some updated links that should (hopefully) get you what you are looking for a little bit easier.

I would highly recommend doing a full browser "refresh" on the site (i.e. press your refresh button) on pages if they look a bit out of whack - there's been a number of image and icon updates, but these items may already be cached by your browser.

Please let me know any feedback you have or if you see anything that's not working.

Thanks!

- Brian

p.s. thanks Douglas for your help on some of the graphics ;)
