Globe will be the first one to roll out the new iPad in the Philippines on May 29. Yes folks! the long wait is over! Finally, you'll get a taste of that 9.7" retina display, A5X processor, 5 megapixel camera, 10 hour battery life and that 42 mbps network speed from Globe. Yep, that's 4G folks. The new iPad has been launched a few months ago in different countries and many pinoys are already impatient with the new iPad. Thankfully, some online stores like Widget City is selling the new iPad at an affordable price. No word regarding the pricing and plans.

Facebook testing a redesigned Timeline?

Wait what? Facebook is changing our layout again? Not really. They're just redesigning the current timeline profile that we got right now. I guess this one is much more cleaner than the current timeline profile. I hope that there won't be a lot of changes that'll happen because Facebook will just confuse its users again. As you can, our infos is placed on the black gradient at the cover photo which I think is cool because It'll save us more space in timeline pages. They also replace those boxes with pictures by just text. Well, I hope it'll really be cleaner than the current timeline. No word on how many people got to try this redesigned timeline and how to get this one on our profile right now

The HTC Titan is a Windows Phone that has a 4.7" S-LCD screen with a 800 x 480 resolution, a 8MP camera w/ Dual LED Flash oh and there's a 1.3MP Camera on the front. It is powered by a Single Core 1.5ghz Qualcomm processor. Don't fret guys because a single core is already enough to make the phone fast and fluid. This phone is a great alternative to Nokia Lumia 900 which will be available this june that has a SRP of P27,990. EXCLUSIVE: Nokia 808 Pureview with 41MP camera Hands-on at the Lumianation!

Aside from the Nokia Lumias that were launched yesterday, We got a chance to play with the prototype Nokia 808 Pureview at the Lumianation event last May 18 at Bonifacio Amphitheater (Me, Martin of Widget City and Mark of Techpinas were one of the lucky guys!). Yes, the Nokia 808 Pureview is the 41 megapixel monster cameraphone. The Nokia 808 Pureview that we got is just a prototype according to them. But hey! proto or not, the camera of the phone is still amazing! Unfortunately, the phone isn't available yet here in the Philippines.

There are a lot of people asking how did we got the Nokia 808 Pureview and what are these phones doing at a Nokia Lumia launch. Before the event had started, Neil of Mister JonJon tweeted about a guy who is using a Nokia 808 Pureview to take photos at the Lumianation event and then later that night Harwin of HJP Techie world told and pointed me a certain guy who used the Nokia 808 Pureview to take photos of his friends and thanks to Ms. Nikka, we were able to play with it and use it for a period of time. Before we proceed on my first impressions of the phone, here's my hands-on video of the Nokia 808 Pureview

What do I love about the Nokia Pureview? Of course, the camera which is too freakin awesome. I got a chance to use the Nokia 808 Pureview for a period of time and as you can see on the video above, I can zoomed in to the pictures even they're from afar. The quality of the image were really great. Pictures without flash and at low-light are a little bit grainy but the xenon flash performed well on some images and I believed that it is way better than the Nokia N8's Xenon flash. I can easily customized the settings such as the saturation and contrast while I can adjust the fps setting on the video recording too which can record up to 1080p. Symbian Belle is fast, I haven't experience any lags, crashes or slowdowns even though I opened a lot of apps.

The 4" AMOLED Screen looks good but you might be disappointed with the nHD screen. I love it when I press the camera button, the camera app will open immediately just like with the Windows phone. Oh and you may also notice about the bulge at the back because of the large camera sensor. Well, it's not really annoying but I think you'll get used to it when you're always using it.

All in all, I'm impressed with the Nokia 808 Pureview. But hey, this is not a final product that will be release in the market. Seriously, this thing is a beast when it comes to camera. The quality of the images that I took were better than my Micro 4/3 camera. No word on the price but it will arrive this June here in the Philippines

Lumianation: Nokia Lumias launched at Bonifacio Amphitheatre!

Finally, the Nokia Lumias were launched last May 18 at the Bonifacio Amphitheatre. The rain passed by the area but that didn't stop the people to see the latest Windows phones from Nokia. They also showed the Nokia phones back in the 1990s and 2000s until to the present smartphones, the Windows Phone-touting Lumia smartphones. There were a lot of celebrities out in the event including Kat Alano who hosted the event. One of the coolest part of the event was the 3D projection at the wall. After the event we've talked to Mr Dharmesh, the General Manage of Nokia Philippines. I didn't expect that he was funny. I thought the man was always serious but he loves to play jokes with us. Anyway, we've talked about the Nokia Lumia and he gave us a clue about why will the people loved Windows phone. He said that there are 75% of people who use a PC. I guess that there will be a convergence between the Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. Something that we've been waiting for a long long time.

Sony Xperia U now available for P13,250 at Widget City

The Sony Xperia U is probably one of the most affordable dual core Android phone out there. It is powered by a dual core NovaThor processor with a 5 megapixel camera that can only record 720p videos (I was expecting to see a 1080p recording but no :( Sigh). It has borrowed the same looks from its bigger brother, the Sony Xperia S but this one has exchangeable bottom caps. Ticket to amazing: Helicopter ride with the Nokia Lumia 610

Today was one of my amazing day in my life because today, I got a chance to rode a helicopter along with the Nokia Lumia 610. Yes folks, I was one of the lucky bloggers who got a chance to rode a helicopter. I also tried the Nokia Lumia 610 and its features this morning. Check it out after the break. Aside from that, our friends at Nokia also announced what will happen on the 18th of May!

On May 18 finally, the Filipinos will get their hands-on on the Nokia Lumia 900 soon because Nokia Philippines will be launching that phone on that day. No specific details about what surprises that may come but I guess that the event will be big.

So let's get back to the Nokia Lumia 610. The Nokia Lumia 610 is the entry level Windows phone offering of Nokia and we, Filipinos were the first one to get the Nokia Lumia 610 around the globe. Anyway, here are the things that I noticed about the Nokia Lumia 610.

It looks good and it doesn't look like an entry level phone
The screen has 65k colors but I barely notice that
It has 800 mhz processor but it is still fast and fluid
It doesn't have Xbox live. Only games hub
The internet explorer is still fluid. Didn't experienced any lags
And yes, there will be internet sharing on the phone
Personally I didn't like blue color of the phone
The 5 megapixel camera isn't good at low light and it CAN'T record HD Videos
Sharing your photos and videos to Skydrive, Facebook and twitter is VERY VERY VERY FAST

All in all, if you're the guy/girl who loves to share and connect to your Facebook and twitter then this phone should be listed on your "next-phone-list". You can easily share your photos and videos on the internet, oh and you can also tag them in your phone directly. If you want to get one, you may get it at the nearest select Nokia stores for P10,980. If you want a cheaper one, get it at Widget City

The Philippines got the Nokia Lumia 610 first in the world while Russia and India will be the first one to get the 41 megapixel Symbian device, the Nokia 808 Pureview and I saw that there are people who are still loyal to Symbian at Nokia Philippines Facebook. FYI, Symbian is an operating system that will die soon because of Nokia's vision on shifting to Windows phones. So let's back to the question. When will we get the Nokia 808 Pureview? Dungeon Hunter: Alliance Review (Mac)

HELL YEAH! We have weird names

Gameloft has been known for making games at the mobile industry but this time, they released a game which is exclusive to PS3, PS Vita and OS X only. Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is a hack-and-slash game with multiplayer mode in where you can play with 3 more players. The one that we played on is the Mac OS X version. If you want to get one too, you can get it at the Mac App store for $14.99. Review after the break

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance start off in a tomb on where you were resurrected (And yes, you're the old king who died a long time ago) to save the kingdom from the forces of evil. The gameplay is kinda nice and very addictive especially when I'm connected online or just playing with my bro and cousin. I played this game with my cousin and brother almost everyday with 2 USB controllers connected to my Macbook Pro. And we just do this setup everyday:

The first thing that I liked about the game is that it is very newbie-friendly. The controls you'll need were few but I was disappointed to see that you can only map 3 skills. Anyway, the gameplay isn't bad and it was kinda fun and addictive. The quest aren't that hard and the AI are not too stupid. From the name itself, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance, the game will be more enjoyable and fun when you're playing with your friends and of course, the quests and bosses will be easier to finished if you're playing together.

You can finish your quests together w/ your friends. As long as you have the same main quests

You'll get to choose from 3 characters -- a melee type, a magic type and the assassin that can use a dual dagger and a bow. The are a lot of enemies and dungeons that you'll need to finish (As of this posting, we haven't finished the game yet). You can use normal attacks, magic and fairies. At the start of the game you'll just have 1 fairy but as you go on with the game, you'll get more of them. Each fairy has its own ability. I can't tell most

The graphics of the game wasn't that great. It doesn't suck either. Just what I expected from a game ported from PS Vita and PS Network. The lightings were good, the skill effects were a bit awesome which makes the game more cooler. The details and objects in the environment was good too. The thing that I don't like here is that the game lacks Anti-Aliasing adjusting, the only thing that you can adjust is the resolution.

Two dumbs.

All in all, for $14.99 I think this game should be in your "must-buy list" especially if you're a big fan of hack & slash games like Diablo. Now, who says Mac can't do gaming?

Get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for P18,700!

Holy Macaroni! Yes guys, the first Ice cream sandwich (It's not a food!) phone is now available at below the 20k margin. Just to refresh your lazy minds, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a Dual core 1.2 ghz processor, 5 megapixel camera that can record 1080p@30fps and a 4.65 inches 1280 x 720 pixels HD Super AMOLED screen. For P18,700 I think this phone is already a steal. So why is the phone affordable? Well, because Google had a price down and made the phone available for $399 at Google play. Unfortunately Google Play is only available at US. So we're pretty lucky that we have Widget City here in the Philippines. They're selling it for P18,700 as part of their May sale (they haven't updated it yet!)

Samsung Galaxy S III Announced! - Specifications and Price in the Philippines

At last, the Samsung Galaxy S III is now official. The quad-core packing device looks pretty cool, amazing and it looks more rounded and curvy this time. There are a lot of software features and apps included in the device like the S beam & S voice. They got a philosophy on this device -- "Inspired by nature, designed for humans". I still don't know what that means but this phone will be available in 2 colors. And not, it won't be black and white but instead it'll be available in Marble white and Pebble Blue. Nokia Lumia 710 Review: A decent midrange Windows phone

Just as I promised to you guys. I'll be reviewing the Nokia Lumia 710, the midrange Windows phone offering of Nokia. I got a chance to get a hands-on of it first at the Smart Nokia Lumia launch last April 19 at Republiq, Resorts World Manila. The Nokia Lumia 710 features a 3.7" LCD screen, Windows Phone 7.5, 1.4 Ghz processor and a 5 megapixel camera. Just the right hardware for a mid range phone. The phone's hardware resembles it's bigger brother -- the Nokia Lumia 800 but the build and construction is quite different. Check it out on my review

Hardware and construction

The Nokia Lumia 710 doesn't have a unibody polycarbonate body but it is made out of plastic which makes the phone lighter than it looks like. Like what I've told you earlier, the Nokia Lumia 710 packs a 1.4 Ghz single core processor which can be also found on the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900. Like what I've told you in my past review of a Windows phone. They don't need a quad core or even a dual core to be fast because the single-core Snapdragon is already enough to have a blazing fast and fluid experience on the phone.

Nokia Lumia 710's Back Cover

The design of the phone is not thin nor thick, it fits just right in my hands. The phone is pocketable and easy to the hands especially when typing. Like what I've told you before, it is made up of pure plastic which makes the phone light and the cost of it, cheaper. It's plastic body is somehow comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S. What I like in the Nokia Lumia 710 compared to its bigger brothers is that the back cover can be removed and the battery can be replaceable. Too bad, Nokia Lumia 710 will also need you to have a micro-sim. It means that you have to either cut your sim or buy a new micro-sim from your choice of carrier.

The Nokia Lumia 710 has a 3.7" TFT Clearblack display in which the blacks are really black. I was expecting that the Lumia 710 would have the same AMOLED Clearblack display but I think they prefer TFT CBD to make the phone more affordable. I also notice that when the screen brightness is increasing the transition is not smooth. Sunlight legibility isn't that good too. Below the screen is 3 hardware buttons namely the back, Windows key and the search button. I was disappointed to see these because I was expecting that the phone would have a capacitive buttons. Oh and if you didn't know yet, even the Nokia Lumia 610 use capacitive buttons.

The speaker of the phone is good. Not great. Not bad. The phone has a speaker grill at the back and you can notice that it'll have a loud and clear sound if you turn it upside down. For those who are asking if it will have a expandable storage. Sorry guys Windows phone doesn't support that so we're stuck at the 8GB (6.3GB usable). Just like what've told you before this phone will require you a micro-sim and you'll need to remove your battery first before inserting the micro-sim card.

At the back, you can find the 5 megapixel camera w/ LED flash along with the speaker grill. Unfortunately, you can't find any front facing camera in here but hey, you could still use the phone for Skype! At the top of the phone, you can find the Micro-USB, Lock/On-off button and the 3.5mm jack. The 1300 Mah battery can handle the phone for up to a day or even less than a day but I doubt that it can reach for more than a day.

The camera exceeded my expectations. I thought that the camera will be crappy just like any other phones but it wasn't as great as the camera on the Lumia 800. The camera can shoot fast but it seems that the autofocus can't get its place right on videos. Even at low light conditions the Nokia Lumia 710 did well but it wasn't as good as the Exmor-R cameras at low light conditions. Here are some sample shots taken using the Nokia Lumia 710:

Here's a sample video taken using the Nokia Lumia 710. It can record 720p HD videos at 30 fps. I noticed that the phone's camera always change its focus. Not a good thing.

Windows Phone experience

In my opinion, Windows phone 7.5 is the best OS when it comes to UI and performance. The Metro UI is so neat and fast and I really love Microsoft for that. There's Skydrive, office, Xbox live and Windows Marketplace but the only thing that is backing down the Windows phone is the lack of apps in its selection. As of this posting there are around 85,000 apps on the marketplace compared to more than half a million apps of Android and iOS. If you haven't experience Windows phone yet, I'll assure you that all Windows phone that you'll try is fast and user friendly and no I'm not bias, just telling the truth sis and bros.

For the web browser of the Windows phone. Yes, the browser is smooth and I can browse on it very swiftly. I didn't experience and lags or slowdowns but the downside of the browser is that you can't view any flash objects on any website because Windows Phone doesn't support flash. You can still open a lot of new tabs and still have a fast blazing speed on the phone. Microsoft did a good job on that.

Nokia Drive

There are some apps exclusively available on Nokia like the Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive. Both of them works great and I'm glad that they have downloadable street maps for the Philippines but I was disappointed when I discovered that it'll require you to have an active internet connection before using these apps. There are other Nokia-exclusive apps like ESPN and that Sesame app.

Microsoft Office on Windows phone

People Hub

One of the features that I really liked about Windows Phone 7.5 is the People hub. It is where you can view and link the profile of your friends in Facebook and twitter. Oh and there's notifications too on where you can see the latest notifications from your Facebook and twitter accounts. In office, you can create a new word or excel file only with some available templates (Unfortunately, you can't create Powerpoints but you can view your Powerpoints on Windows Phone) and save it to your Skydrive or your phone. If you have a lot of documents on the Skydrive, you can easily browse it in Office with those live tiles. In order to open PDF Files, you'll be required to download Adobe reader from the Marketplace.

There's Xbox Live too on where you can edit or create your avatar. There are some Xbox live games with achievements too on the Windows Phone but most of them are paid and not free. Windows phone is really a nice OS. Too bad there are only a pinch of users and apps available as of this moment.

UPDATE: Ms. Nikka Abes, the Corporate Communications Manager of Nokia Philippines told us that Xbox Live games is not yet available on the PH marketplace. I used United states in my region that's why I was able to access it. Thanks Ms. Nikka! ;)

Verdict

For a midrange device, I think the Nokia Lumia 710 is a great contender in that market. The things that I don't like about the device are the lack of front facing camera, small library of apps available in marketplace and the hardware buttons instead of 3 capacitive buttons. The rest is fine. I agree on what the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak has said. Windows phone is really beautiful and neat compared to Android and iOS. The live tiles are simplicity of apps are really an eye candy. And just like what other techies has said about the Windows Phone, It still need a lot apps in order to be attractive to the different audiences. Microsoft needs to put more effort in bringing popular apps like Instagram and some games like Draw something, Temple Run and some other hardcore game stuffs. Oh and Microsoft, I suggest that you get Gameloft to port some cool 3D games to the Windows phone. They got some cool original and rip-off games. All in all the device is good. The camera didn't fail me, the performance is smooth and the ecosystem is really growing

Call of Duty Black Ops II Trailer

Here it is! The first trailer of the successor of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The Treyarch made Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set in the future and again, America specifically Los Angeles has been invaded again by some other country or by some hacker who is capable of having and controlling drones and robots. Didn't saw any clues about the enemies there but I guess you'll be playing an American Soldier, a pilot of a drone and an Arab guy. IMO, if Treyarch focus on drones and robots as enemies I won't like this game that much. But hey, that's just my opinion. Better wait for the next trailers!

Why? because as you can see in the picture, they just had a price down of their current flagship. From their current SRP of P29,990 they just made it to P24,990. That's right, they just made a P5000 price drop on the phone. Just to refresh your memory guys, the Samsung Galaxy S II has a dual core processor, 8 megapixel camera and Android 2.3 (Upgradeable to Android 4.0). I can really feel the presence of the Samsung Galaxy S III coming.

Sony ST21i: The affordable ICS phone

Another Ice Cream Sandwich phone from Sony has been leaked. This time it's an entry level Android phone which is set to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Y and the LG Optimus L3 -- the Sony ST21i. According to GSM Arena, It packs a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset with a 800 MHz CPU and Adreno 200 GPU. It is also expected to have a 3 MP camera that can record VGA videos As you can see, the phone's screen is pretty small at 3.2" but good thing is that the LCD has a resolution of HVGA (320 x 480) not a QVGA display. At least you could install Instagram on it!

First of all, I want to inform you guys that this blog is not bias to Windows phones, Nokia or to Lumia phones. It's just that there are a lot of news that are coming out of Nokia and I'll be reviewing the midrange Windows phone -- Nokia Lumia 710 soon. Yes folks! the SMART exclusive Nokia Lumia 710! Anyway, the most affordable Windows phone along with the first Lumia phone that I reviewed is now shipping! Yep. The Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 610 is already shipping and both phones is expected to be seen in select Nokia Stores at the end of April with a price of Php 10,980 and PhP 23,500.

Hear ye! Hear ye! The most affordable Windows phone is about to be release this last of week of April! The good news? Filipinos will be the first to get in touch with the most affordable Windows phone, the Nokia Lumia 610. After our country, soon to follow are China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. Just like what I've told you in my previous post, the Nokia Lumia 610 doesn't feel like it's an entry level phone but rather a midrange smartphone. It is powered by a 800 mhz processor but it can still manage to have a HD video recording and a fast and fluid Windows phone experience. The Nokia Lumia 610 will be available in black, cyan, magenta and white (colorful huh?). Oh and there are no SRPs yet. Since we are all amazed on how big the sensor is, we finally see the Pureview in action. In this ad, we can see the prowess of its optics like the ability of the Pureview to zoom in at a very far distance and so much more. Seriously, I love to try this phone.
