The Jaguars have found that magic touch late in games as of late, and due to that and a big effort from David Garrard in the end they have their first three-game winning streak in nearly two years after an 18-15 win over the Bills Sunday at home.

The Jags move to 6-4 on the year, and stay in the race for a wild card in the AFC. The game winner came with just 56 seconds left, as Jags QB David Garrard threw a touchdown pass to Mike Sims-Walker from three yards out to put Jacksonville ahead. The Bills defense did hold down Maurice Jones-Drew, as he had 66 yards and a score.

“It’s just something that continues to give this team, this offense, confidence,” Garrard said. “You’re not going to get it every time, but when you do, you’ve got to relish it, learn from it and understand what it’s like to be in that moment.”

Garrard directed a 68-yard scoring drive when it mattered for the Jaguars. He managed a similar come-from-behind effort last week against the Jets.

The Bills couldn’t run the ball at all, putting up 53 yards on 19 carries, and they couldn’t keep the ball, as they had it for just 23:36 to 36:24 for Jacksonville. Terrell Owens caught nine passes for 197 yards, including a team-record 98-yarder for a score. It was his best outing with the Bills, who have lost three straight and six of eight.

The 98-yard score put the Bills up 15-10 in the third quarter. It was a lead they would hold to the very end, till Garrard turned on his magic again. “Any given play, we can make it happen,” Garrard said. “Guys know when we get in that situation it’s not a loss. It’s an opportunity for us to go make the plays to get the win. When I walk into that huddle, you can see it in everybody’s eyes. Nobody has that glassy-eyed look. Everybody’s focused and ready to roll.”

Fitzpatrick threw for 297 yards. He moved the Bills into Jacksonville territory in the closing seconds, but his fourth-down pass to Owens was tipped and then picked off by Anthony Smith, saving the win. The Jags are on the road next week to play the 4-6 49ers.

Sometimes smart plays work, sometimes they don’t. For the Jaguars on Sunday in New Jersey vs the Jets, Maurice Jones-Drew made maybe the smartest play of the season, setting up a chip shot field goal for Josh Scobee as the Jags beat the Jets 24-22.

Jones-Drew deliberately fell down so the Jaguars could run time off the clock before the Scobee kicked the game-winner on the final play of the game. He went down at the 1-yard line, and set up the kick that won the game and pushed the Jags to 5-4 for a key win.

“What a great football game,’’ said Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio. “A real gritty, determined effort. Both teams came into this ballgame realizing that it was a big game.’’ The Jags went 80 yards in the final 5:04 to take what was a 22-21 deficit and turn it into their biggest road win of the season.

“You could tell the guys were focused and ready to roll,’’ QB David Garrard said. “I did say, ‘This is it. This is what they all come down to. Do your job and make plays.’ I didn’t have to come up with any rah-rah speeches. It was all or nothing.’’

Thomas Jones gave the Jets a 22-21 lead on a 1-yard touchdown dive with 5:04 remaining. The score capped a 16-play drive that included three third-down conversions and a fourth-and-1 conversion—a 14-yard run by Shonn Greene that got the Jets down to the 1.

The Jags though went the distance, and Jones-Drew and company combined with some big plays by Garrard to get them to where they needed to go to get the winning kick. Jones-Drew had 123 yards on 24 carries, becoming the first player to rush for 100 or more yards against the Jets this season. Garrard was 16 of 26 for 221 yards and a touchdown to Mike Sims-Walker, and also ran for a score.

“We came on the road and got this win. That’s two in a row on our belts. That’s big for us,’’ CB Rasheen Mathis said. “The month of November is when teams make their runs and we’re 2-0 in November. Teams have to set the stage for December. If you’re not able to do that in November, then December doesn’t matter.’’

If the Jags want to play past the first Sunday in January, their win over the Jets may be a launching pad to making that happen.

It’s been a very up and down first half of the season for the Jaguars, and Sunday at home against the Chiefs, the team pulled off a 24-21 win, but it didn’t exactly look like it came from a team that is heading towards the postseason anytime soon.

The team struggled against the one win Chiefs, and while the Jags defense didn’t allow much, they didn’t put the game away until after they recovered an onside kick with 1:01 left, hanging on to a three-point lead.

Nevertheless, it was a much needed win after the team lost to the Titans last week. “There’s only so much bouncing back you can do before there’s no more bouncing to do,” cornerback Rashean Mathis said. “It’s something to hang your hat on, to know that we’re going to fight, but at the same time we have to learn to be consistent.”

It’s the third time this season the team has come off a loss with a win. Now if they could just win a couple in a row. “We brought a different attitude to the game,” linebacker Clint Ingram said. “It’s not a time for us to start beating ourselves on the chest and patting ourselves on the back. It’s one game. It’s good that we won it, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do and a lot of corrections to make and a lot of stuff to clean up.”

David Garrard threw for 264 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown pass to his favorite pass catcher, Mike Sims-Walker. It was a big day for Sims-Walker, who had 6 grabs for 147 yards. His 24.5-yards per catch on Sunday ranked as the fourth-highest average in team history (minimum of five receptions).

Workhorse running back Maurice Jones-Drew ran for 97 yards on 29 carries, just a 3.3 yards per carry average. He did score a touchdown on a 10-yard run, which was also his longest of the day. The TD put the Jags up 24-6 with 4:26 to play, but KC rallied for two touchdowns as QB Matt Cassel hooked up twice with new wide out Chris Chambers.

“They were throwing the ball up, and a couple of receivers made some plays,” Mathis said. “It wasn’t like they were picking us apart or anything. It was just throwing Hail Marys down the field and they made some great grabs. That’s nothing for us to be concerned about. When we had to get after them and put the game away, we did.”

Now if they can do that a couple of weeks in a row.

The six-person jury found Hartsfield guilty after a deliberation of two hours and 45 minutes. Hartsfield could be sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Hartsfield followed Collier’s car from a nightclub and shot him as revenge for Collier knocking Hartsfield out in a nightclub fight in April.

Collier was set to enter the 2008 season as the Jaguars’ left tackle before he was shot on September 2 of that year. The shooting left Collier paralyzed from the waist down, and one of his legs was amputated. Collier was in court Thursday and watched the reading of the verdict, sitting in his wheelchair.
