Tyrone Hartsfield has been found guilty of attempted first degree murder in the shooting of former Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier.

The six-person jury found Hartsfield guilty after a deliberation of two hours and 45 minutes. Hartsfield could be sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Hartsfield followed Collier’s car from a nightclub and shot him as revenge for Collier knocking Hartsfield out in a nightclub fight in April.

Collier was set to enter the 2008 season as the Jaguars’ left tackle before he was shot on September 2 of that year. The shooting left Collier paralyzed from the waist down, and one of his legs was amputated. Collier was in court Thursday and watched the reading of the verdict, sitting in his wheelchair.

The Jaguars came into Sunday trying to avoid the distinction of being the first team to lose to the St.Louis Rams in 2009. They seemed to try their best to give away the game, but in the end survived a hard fought game, coming out on top 23-20 in overtime to move to 3-3 on the season.

Maurice Jones-Drew was the workhorse in the game for the Jags, rushing the ball 33 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns, and he also caught five passes for 45 yards. He broke tackles all day long, showing the kind of toughness the Jags and the rest of the league have seen more than one in the past.

Jacksonville did have to rally, as they trailed 7-0, then 10-6 at the half after a 52-yard field goal by Josh Brown. With Jones-Drew and QB David Garrard setting the tempo on offense, the Jags rallied to score a TD with Jones-Drew going over from a yard out with 8:05 remaning to make it 13-10.

The Jags were looking to ice the game with less than five minutes left, but a major mistake almost cost them. Garrard threw in the flat to Jones-Drew, but the ball arrived just as Rams linebacker Leonard Little did, and the vet made a heads up play, goig 36 yards for a score to give the Rams a stunning 17-13 lead with 4:36 left.

Determined to close the game out, the Jags came right back. Garrard led a quick 10-play drive that was highlighted by a big 26-yard pass play to Mike Sims-Walker that put the ball at the St.Louis 18. Jones-Drew ended the drive with a three-yard TD with 1:53 left to make it 20-17.

St.Louis though didn’t go down easy, as they rallied with a big play to Steven Jackson, and with four seconds left Browns nailed a 27-yard field goal to tie the game at 20, sending it to OT.

The Jags offense looked to put together an OT drive to end the game, and they did. They went 62 yards in exactly seven minutes. Garrard was 6-for-7 for 42 yards, and five runs by Jones-Drew set up Josh Scobee’s 36-yard game winning kick for the 23-20 win.

“I just wanted to show people my frustration of losing,” Jones-Drew said. “I feel we are on the verge of being great, but we just have to feel the same way about frustration. I lashed out a little bit. I think I went overboard, but the coaches understood after I talked to them and told them what it was about.”

The now .500 Jags are on the bye next week before they play in Tennessee on November 1st.

The Jags are a very much up and down team, but still seem to be far away from being the playoff team they were two seasons ago when they beat the Steelers in the wild card game on the road and then gave a pretty good fight to the Pats.

Now, Jack Del Rio appears to be feeling some heat, as the team continues to try and get back to where they were. Sunday they were destroyed by a Seahawks team that hadn’t been playing very well, and the Florida Times-Union says that Del Rio had better start winning:

It’s time for Jack Del Rio to give this team an identity beyond its raging inconsistency. Since he signed a $20 million-plus contract extension in April, 2008, the Jaguars are 7-14, and the timing of this disastrous weekend only raises doubts about the team’s direction. Was it an aberration or a continuation of this team’s roller-coaster pattern? “I believe in what we’re doing,” Del Rio said. “I will continue to coach my butt off, to work my staff, to prepare this football team, and expect us to play well. When the water gets rough, I will keep my hand firm on the rudder. We will come through it.”

If he and the team continue to lose that seats continue to go unfilled in Jacksonville, the team may have no choice but to have a coaching change at the end of the year – or sooner.

Jaguars DE Quentin Groves was involved in an accident at the airport Friday as the team was preparing to fly to Seattle. The father of the driver of one of the two cars that Groves hit is incensed that he was allowed to leave the scene of the accident, the Florida Times-Union reports. Robyn Jackett, a Jaguars season-ticket holder for 13 years, told the newspaper his 29-year old son was driving his 2008 Nissan Versa when Groves’ Cadillac Escalade hit it and another car and his son saw Groves leave the scene and only stopped after a witness chased Groves until he stopped again about a quarter mile away. Police put Groves in a car and drove him away, not back to the scene.

They should probably have never gotten off the plane.

For the Jaguars, they came to Seattle hoping to build on their modest two-game winning streak, and left looking like they were a team playing their first preseason game. The Seahawks did just about anything they wanted to against the Jags, laying waste to them in a 41-0 lambasting.

Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck was unstoppable, he threw four TD’s against the Jags, and was 18-for-30 for 241 yards and a QB rating of 125.1. The Jags offense was held to 199 yards, and Seattle piled on 379 yards, 5.3 yards per offensive play. The nail in the coffin seemed to come before the half, as two Hasselbeck TD’s turned a 6-0 lead into a 20-0 Seattle lead.

The beating continued in the third quarter when the Hawks added two more Hasselbeck scores, again one to T.J. Houshmandzadeh and another to Nate Burleson to make it 34-0. The Jags actually had a drive going late in the third and early in the fourth quarter, but David Garrard fumbled, and Seattle’s Nick Reed recovered the fumble and returned it 79 yards for a score to end the awful game 41-0.

Garrard was 18-for-31 for 188 yards with four sacks and a QB rating of 75.7. He also missed on 10 of his first 15 passes. Maurice Jones-Drew was held to 34 yards on 12 carries. The team never got into any tempo whatsoever on offense, and leading wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker was inactive for a violation of team rules. Sims-Walker caught a career-high two touchdown passes last week.

The Jaguars will look to get back on the winning track next week vs the 0-5 Rams at home.

David Garrard actually has the Jags looking like a force in the AFC the past two weeks, as they laid waste to the Titans last week at home. The Hawks will get QB Matt Hasselbeck back, and they play well at home, but they still have issues on offense as they can’t run, and I think the Jags will win their third straight with a big road win here.

They have to make sure to keep up the pressure on defense, as they can’t allow Hasselbeck to get his vintage west coast offense going in the right direction. The Jags D did a great job pressuring Kerry Collins a week ago, and the Hawks don’t have much of a run game to speak of, so if you can get to Hasselbeck, they should be able to get a win here.
