Tanjung Aru Beach Development Project: My Thought

I was just aware of the plan by the authority to develop Tanjung Aru beach. In the same time, I read about lots of concerns by the NGOs and individuals.

Whatever it is, authority need to study a place like Manly Beach in Australia of how they develop the surrounding beach with houses, hotels, shop lots, etc., and still leaving the beach to be enjoyed freely by the people. The place even have informative website at http://www.manlyaustralia.com.au/ and councils at http://www.manly.nsw.gov.au/planning-and-development/lep-dcp-policies/lep-dcps-policies/. Of course, not to copy but study the best way it should be developed. Therefore, please do it right.

There is room for development and modernization of the beach where facilities are provided. Thus, building zones, beach zones and others can be planned carefully. The authority have the power and money to plan what is the best to all. Please do the development but keep the beach as an open space for all.

Open space with trees, road and buildings at the other side.

Cycling path, lots of parking spaces and buildings (hotels, apartments, shops) at the other side of the road.

Mitsubishi Triton VGT Standard Offroad

Off road with the standard Triton VGT at Pengkalan Hulu cave adventure. I can feel the power and comfort from this machine during the adventure. Although it was an automatic transmission, however the sport mode gear lever is really useful during the drive. This machine would definitely perform better if suitable off road gears were used including MT tyres, front bar and more height.

Saya berada di DRB-Hicom Autofest, SPICE (sebelum ini dikenali sebagai PISA) Pulau Pinang pada hujung minggu lalu untuk melihat sendiri model yang sangat dinanti-nantikan oleh peminat Suzuki 4x4 di Malaysia, iaitu Suzuki Jimny model baru JB43. Suzuki Jimny sememangnya telah terkenal di kalangan peminat 4x4 tempatan. Oleh yang demikian, ia adalah satu berita baik untuk peminat-peminat Suzuki 4x4 di mana mimpi menjadi kenyataan apabila akhirnya Suzuki Malaysia memutuskan untuk membawa masuk mini 4x4 SUV yang mampu pergi ke mana-mana sahaja walaupun kecil. Ia sudah terbukti oleh model sebelumnya seperti SJ410 dan SJ413, di mana pengikut model ini adalah agak besar di Malaysia.

Tidak banyak yang boleh diperiksa untuk kereta ini selain untuk "melihat sahaja dari luar" kerana cuma pameran sahaja buat masa ini. Saya telah melihat model yang sama ini semasa saya berada di Brunei. Pautan ini adalah entry berkenaan dengan pengalaman saya. Saya tidaklah mengetahui dengan lebih lanjut tentang spesifikasi Jimny baru Malaysia 2013, namun demikian, spesifikasi kenderaan ini berkemungkinan besar adalah berdasarkan kepada model yang sama dari Jepun iaitu Jimny Sierra 1.3L. Terdapat dua variasi Jimny di Jepun yang dipanggil sebagai Jimny dan Jimny Sierra dengan enjin masing-masing 660cc Turbo (K6A) dan 1300cc (M13A).

Satu-satunya faktor negatif (sekurang-kurangnya bagi saya) adalah harga yang belum disahkan di sekitar RM90k yang mungkin akan menjadi halangan bagi kereta mini 4x4 3-pintu ini. Walau bagaimanapun, ia merupakan satu kegembiraan melihat kereta ini dan mungkin tidak lama lagi berada di jalan raya.

Suzuki Jimny JB43 di Tanah Jambu, Brunei 2012

Kereta kompak 4x4 kecil ini tidak memerlukan pengenalan yang lebih, tetapi merupakan legenda dan kebanyakannya digunakan oleh peminat 4x4 sama ada di bandar atau kawasan luar bandar dan juga sebagai salah satu daripada kenderaan ubahsuai pilihan kepada penggemar cabaran 4x4 terutamanya di Sabah Malaysia. Berita berkenaan dengan model baharu Suzuki Jimny bakal dilancarkan di Malaysia sebenarnya telah wujud dalam berita internet sejak sebulan yang lalu. Pembaca boleh merujuk di Paul Tan, CBT dan Keretamoto. Saya agak terlambat untuk menulis dalam blog mengenai kereta ini.

Saya mempunyai galeri gambar yang agak besar kereta jenis ini dengan versi sebelumnya SJ410 dan SJ413 di sini. Menariknya, saya juga pernah melihat sendiri kereta ini yang dipamerkan semasa cabaran 4x4 di Brunei pada tahun 2012. Saya telah menulis pengalaman saya di sini dengan harapan bahawa Suzuki JIMNY versi Malaysia akan menjadi kenyataan. Walau bagaimanapun, selepas membaca dari sumber yang dinyatakan di atas, Suzuki JIMNY baharu berharga sekitar RM90,000 bagi CBU import dari Jepun. Dengan harga ini, saya tidak menjangkakan yang ia akan dijual secara besar-besaran di Malaysia. Saya berharap harga sebenar bukanlah seperti yang dinyatakan kerana harga yang ditawarkan di Brunei adalah sekitar SGD25,000. Jika tidak, ia mungkin akan menjadi seperti apa yang telah berlaku kepada Perodua Nautica. Peminat Suzuki 4x4 mungkin akan membeli Suzuki JIMNY buatan tempatan atau model CKD dengan harga yang mampu milik.

Saya difahamkan bahawa Suzuki Jimny baharu akan dipamerkan/dilancarkan di DRB-HICOM Autofest bertempat di PISA (kini SPICE) pada 28-30 JUN 2013. Saya pasti akan ke sana untuk mengetahui sama ada Suzuki Jimny Malaysia adalah satu realiti.

Berdasarkan maklumat daripada laman automotif CBT yang disiarkan pada 8 Mei 2013 yang lalu, Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn. Bhd. dikatakan bakal melancarkan semula model Jimny versi terbaharu di pasaran tempatan mulai bulan Jun akan datang.

Suzuki Jimny sememangnya mempunyai peminat yang cukup ramai di pasaran global, tidak terkecuali bagi mereka yang meminati jentera 4×4 di negara kita. Sifat lasak dan mudah dikendalikan antara faktor mengapa model tersebut menjadi pilihan. Maklumat awal menyebut harga yang akan ditawarkan untuk Jimny sekitar RM90K, memandangkan ianya merupakan model yang diimport dari negara asalnya Jepun.

Sementara itu, model kompak popular bercirikan prestasi Suzuki Swift Sport juga dikatakan sedang menunggu giliran untuk dilancarkan dalam bulan Jun ini. Perkembangan tersebut memperlihatkan Suzuki mula mengambil tindakan yang sewajarnya dalam memperluaskan lagi penguasaan pasarannya di Malaysia, suatu tindakan yang amat dialu-alukan. - Keretamoto

XTREME KINABALU TRACK

28th October, 2012 - Sunday

Last day of 1st Borneo 4WD Outdoor Show (10.00am – 4.00pm)

Day 1 - 9.00 am Ceremonial Flag Off of Borneo Safari at Alamesra Showground by Yang Berhormat Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, Minister of Youth and Sports, Sabah.

Sabah Air helicopters will fly above the convoy during flag off for a dramatic start to the 22nd Borneo Safari International Off Road Challenge. ATVs, Motocross bikes and mountain bikes will follow behind the convoy to Kg. Pulutan, Menggatal for SS 4 & 5.

Residence, photographers and tourists in the vicinity of Kota Kinabalu city are highly encourage come to see more SS action! After the SS, convoy will proceed Kg. Gondukut.

Charming Gondukut
A nice and easy start as the convoy travels north over sealed and village roads to the first campsite at Gondukut village in Kota Belud district. This is one of the most picturesque roads in Sabah with stunnng views of Mt Kinabalu, low-lying hills, rustic villages and clear running rivers.

29th October, 2012 - Monday
Day 2 – Rumble at Rosob Badi

Convoy will experience its first hardcore section with river crossing and swampy conditions along 2km between Gondukut and Rosob Badi. Added challenge thrown in if it rains and winching is a high probability.

Beautiful sunset views at the highest point of the route before going downhill to Camp Nyaman for overnight. SS 6, 7 & 8 will be conducted at this part of the route.

30th October, 2012 - Tuesday
Day 3 – Xtreme Rosob Rantai

Convoy will be tested on one of the longest hardcore sections with 6km of steep hills and river crossings. Time to slip and slide to test your driving skills! Expect to meet at least 2 – 3 winching sections. Convoy is scheduled to regroup before sundown at Rosob Rantai before setting down for the night at Rosob Rantai campsite. SS 9 & 10 will be conducted at this part of the route.

31st October, 2012 - Wednesday
Day 4 – Tranquil Togob

Convoy will experience the longest section along the eastern foothills of Kinabalu Park to reach the next campsite. Man and machine will again be tested with slippery conditions and uphill hardcore section between Rosob Rantai and Gana village before reaching Kampung Togob Darat, the best campsite on the Borneo Safari route.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the rustic scenery and beautiful clear rivers as they spend two days here for a series of activities which includes donating rations, medical camp and building facilities.

Participation by all participants is highly encouraged to show support for this worthwhile cause. SS 11 & 12 will be conducted at this part of the route.

1st November, 2012 - Thursday
Day 5 – In Touch with Nature – Monggis

Convoy will visit Kinabalu Park’s Monggis Sub-Station for a tree planting green project. Monggis Sub-Station is the base station to climb Mt Tambuyukon (2,580m/8,462ft), the third highest mountain in Malaysia after Mt Kinabalu and Mt Trusmadi.

The Borneo Safari 2012 plans to plant more than 150 seedlings at Kinabalu Park, Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site, as part of its environmental project. Pictured here is the beautiful Kikulat River that flows through the Park. For those interested in a half day hike, the Kikulat Waterfall is just 2km from the sub-station.

The Monggis Sub-Station serves as a sentry post with research and recreational facilities. The sub-station was established in 2006 and is located 35km from Ranau town at an altitude of 300m above sea level. The area is surrounded by lush vegetation from lowland dipterocarp to highland forests.

Convoy will proceed back to Togob Darat campsite for 4 special stages for SS 13 to 16.

2nd November, 2012 - Friday
Day 6 – Mesmerising Mamut

After breakfast, convoy will proceed south and ascend uphill from Togob Darat Campsite to Mamut Campsite for a breathtaking view of Mt Kinabalu’s Eastern Ridge and the former Mamut Copper Mine site below which now forms a lake. Photo opportunities for sunrise and sunset landscapes. SS 17 will be conducted at this part of the route.

Water supply at this high elevation is limited and participants are advised to pack warm clothing as temperature at Mamut Campsite can drop to below 20°C.

3rd November, 2012 - Saturday
Day 7 – Rugged Mesilau

Convoy will start the day by proceeding to Ranau Tamu ground in the morning and welcomed by Yang Berhormat Datuk Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah for the flagging off of SS 18 & 19. There will be cultural dance and the public is welcomed to see more 4WD actions!

Convoy will later proceed further south-west along the foothills of Mt Kinabalu to Mesilau along a 6km hardcore section. Expect at least 2 – 3 winching points. Time to test your vehicle driving skills!

The Mesilau Campsite is the highest elevation on the Borneo Safari 2012 route. Warm clothing is essential as temperatures at Mesilau Campsite can drop to 15°C at night.

Enjoy breathtaking views of Mt Kinabalu as well as off-roading through some of the largest highland vegetable farm areas in Sabah. Photo opportunities are abundant along this section.

CLOSING CEREMONY

4th November, 2012 - Sunday
Day 8 – Kota Kinabalu Closing Ceremony

The day will start of with the showdown of the final SS 20. After the final SS, convoy will proceed from Mesilau Campsite to Kota Kinabalu for the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm at Pacific Sutera Grandball Room and the guest of honor is Yang Berhormat Datuk Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah.

Thanks friend for sharing the spy-shot of this truck. I'm not sure exactly but it looks like tail lamp design of the DMax or GWM Wingle 5, so the third-brake light, wheel arch looks like Toyota Hilux. But the addition of fin on fender? That's looks like the idea of Ford Ranger.

Searching on the Internet, I finally found the spyshot just like this car. So, this looks like Foton Tunland, a China Brand as mentioned in Paul Tan automotive blog here and here.

Zuikoholics Malaysia, a new blog which runs by the group of Olympus enthusiasts has published their preview and preliminary field review of the most awaited m43 macro lens, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm 1:2.8. Quoting Zuikoholics, while the 100mm macro lens that suppose to be on Olympus 4/3 lens roadmap is missing, it is now replaced with this new lens. Personally, I wish Olympus will not abandoned entirely the 4/3 system because there are reasons why I still keep my Olympus 4/3 systems.

The ZD ED 12-60mm SWD f/2.8-4.0

Weather resistant lens - proven during rainy 4x4 challenge photography

I bought this lens together with the Olympus E-3 in 2007. Since then the lens become my favourite with over 90% of the time usage. It covers from wide to moderate tele and also not forgetting macro capable. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this lens for its Super Grade, dust and weather resistant.

However the lens eventually suffered with aperture stuck issue in early 2009. Having serviced by Olympus Malaysia, the lens is working perfectly until extreme usage of this lens during wet and muddy Borneo Safari 2011 where the SWD was totally out of order. The symptoms began with refuse to focus from 12mm and then all the zoom ranges where the lens does not response to focus at all. Manual focus helped a bit but there was a smearing effect in the photo. The lens is now at Olympus Service Centre since April 2012 because I still couldn't decide whether to bare the cost (RM900++) to change the SWD unit.

Malaysia 4x4 Jamboree

Malaysia 4x4 Jamboree was held at Sepang International Circuit Off-road Park on 15-17th September, 2012. It is one of the biggest outdoor shows and challenges in Malaysia which comprises of the modified 4x4 challenges, rally challenges, motocross and atv challenges. The 4x4 Adventure Club Kuala Lumpur (4x4ACKL) is again leading the event to success as the last jamboree in 2010. Kudos to 4x4ACKL for the exciting jamboree.

Behind the scene

Personally, I was fortunate to travel in Kuala Lumpur during the Malaysia 4x4 Jamboree, thus my best opportunity to take some photos of my favourite event, the 4x4 off road challenge. Most of my works for 4x4 photography are in Sabah. Photography on the 4x4 actions are not a slow motion or fear of camera gears to be in the mud. It is definitely a physical challenge to the photographer (and camera too) to get the best and safe spot to capture the action. As usual I am using my favourite Olympus E-1 with 14-42mm and Olympus-E-3 with 70-300mm. Although that I use mostly the two standard Olympus lenses, they are quite reliable. The 1st Borneo 4WD & Outdoor Show and the Borneo Safari’s 22nd International Off-Road Challenge flag off ceremony will be hosted at Alamesra, Jalan Sulaman. Lintasan Mayang Development Sdn. Bhd., the property developer of Alamesra has confirm

ed to be Borneo Safari Venue Sponsor.

Alamesra is just 8 Km from Kota Kinabalu city and stretches over 265 acres of pristine prime land, surrounded by Sabah’s wondrous natural heritage. This world-class development respects true family values by enhancing security, encouraging neighbourlines and protecting its natural environment.

Changing our venue from Likas Sports Complex to Alamesra is a strategic move by Borneo Safari to further enhance the publicity and activities of the show with the approval from Alamesra to hold vehicle demonstrations and most importantly 2 Special Stages (No.1 & 2) at the showground’s action arena. The highlight on 28th October morning will be the flagging off ceremony of the 22nd Borneo Safari International Off Road Challenge where 180 convoy vehicles will line up for the flagging off ceremony. "Indahnya" Pantai Likas Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu sememangnya sangat strategik dengan keindahan pantai, bukit, bandaraya dan pulau yang boleh dikatakan semuanya dekat. Tidak hairanlah lagu "Macam di KK.. semuanya ada di sini" dilhamkan oleh penyanyi Janrywine J Lusin banyak memuji Kota Kinabalu sekarang yang semakin membangun. Sehinggakan rumah pun semakin "gila" mahal dan kesesakan jalan raya yang semakin mengiggit warga Kota Kinabalu. Nampaknya KK pun sudah di tahap sangat memerlukan jalan bertingkat, "express-way" dan LRT agaknya. Tapi nampaknya kawasan lain di Sabah pun perlufasiliti yang lebih baik. Entah bila agaknya? Kalau BN atau PR menang dlm PRU13, ia mungkin perlu dijadikan agenda seterusnya.

Senja berlabuh di Pantai Likas

Namun, apa yang penulis ingin rungutkan di sini bukannya berkenaan pembangunan tetapi sikap sesetengah warga Kota Kinabalu yang memandang mudah berkenaan kebersihan persekitaran. Tahap kebersihan di sekitar Kota Kinabalu terutamanya pantai Likas sangat menyedihkan. Datang sahajalah ke Pantai Likas dan anda pasti melihat timbunan sampah di gigi air pantai yang "indah" menjadi lantai kekal jika tidak dibersihkan oleh pekerja pembersihan. Sampah tetap akan datang setiap hari sama ada dari sungai Likas atau dari pulau berdekatan.

Sampai bila ianya akan berakhir? Jawapannya, tidak diketahui.

Kesedaran warga Kota Kinabalu perlu dipertingkatkan kerana dari sana lah sumber sampah yang utama. Pihak berwajib mungkin perlu turun padang ke lokasi yang di kenal pasti menjadi sumber kepada sampah hanyut ke pantai.

Lepas makan KFC dan minum arak tinggal begitu saja.

Pantai awam Likas pun tidak ketinggalan dengan sampah, tetapi di sini selalunya akan lebih tumpuan pembersihan.

Pekerja pembersihan yang TERPAKSA bertugas pada hari Ahad kerana ada manusia yang hanya tahu berkelah atau menjalankan acara tetapi tidak tahu membersihkan sampah mereka. Walaupun pekerja ini digaji, tapi kasihanilah mereka.

Chevrolet Colorado Roadshow - Borneo Expedition 2012

Borneo Expedition by Chevrolet Colorado and Naza started their roadshow at Kota Kinabalu on 23rd-24th June 2012. The event was held at the open space near Alam Mesra, 1Borneo Kota Kinabalu Sabah Malaysia. Mitsubishi Motors had their roadshow at the same place here. Although that the Colorado is not new but the new appearance in Malaysia market is like testing the same product that may be different taste. While Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Ford and Nissan already matured in the double-cab segment in Sabah, can the Colorado survive or will just like few short-lived double cab brands? Time will tell.

I managed to test drive the Colorado and again I must stressed that I'm not the double-cab review man or know how to value the car for everyday use. Leave that to the car reviewer. Although that the feel of driving the car is actually similar to other double cab brands, one thing that quite interesting during my off road test drive is I don't have to press the acceleration pedal and just control the steering on some of the offroad obstacles. Its like the car is on the cruise control.

Looking at the exterior look of the Colorado, it is somehow prettier than few of the double cab brands out there. One of the Colorado vehicles was modified to add its looks with at least 2inch lift, bull bar with winch, side steps, rear steel bumper (wheel and jerry can carrier). Perhaps, it could be tested at this year edition of Borneo Safari to show its reliability in extreme offroad and gain more trust and attention to the car. Anyway, good luck Colorado.
