Marjorie Ann Jendro, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at her home.
She was born on January 14, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to Milton and Edna (Erickson) Gerdin. She lived her childhood years in Minneapolis, spending time in her family owned grocery store. As a teenager, the family moved to Wheatland, North Dakota and Marge graduated from Wheatland High School. She would go on to earn a teaching degree.
While in North Dakota, she met Clayton Jendro and they were married on December 31, 1947 in Moorhead, MN. To this union four children were born. They made their home in Wheatland, ND. When the three oldest children were teens and the youngest was three, the family moved west of Cambridge in 1965. It was there that they would live to raise their children and retire. In 1965, Marge began teaching at the various country schools in the area, including the Dowling School and Moody School, which her mother also taught at the same time. Once the country schools closed, Marge taught 3rd and 2nd grades at Braham Elementary School, from which she retired in the early 1990’s.
Marjorie was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo where she was active in several areas including the Ladies Aide, Women’s Groups and was a fill-in organist. She loved her pets, enjoyed quilting, woodworking, was treasurer for Springvale Township and was an outstanding cook. She was known by her family for making wonderful sweet rolls, and was able to make a meal out of nothing if friends or family would stop by unexpectedly. Marge and Clayton both taught their children many lessons over the years that they still find useful today.
She was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Edna Gerdin, sons Michael and James Jendro, and grandson Daniel (Lori’s son).
Marge is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Clayton; daughter Lori and husband Frank Giampaolo of Spring Lake Park; son David Jendro (Jani Coffin) of Cambridge; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Larry and wife Randi Gerdin of Hudson, WI, Leslie and wife Meri Gerdin of Cambridge; sister Nancy and husband Harlan Vall of Coon Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. Wendell Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Cambridge Union Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences at www.carlsonlillemoen.com.

Requests for Snow Plowing & Salt/Sand Quotes

Athens Township is requesting sealed quotes for snow plowing 42 miles of roads and salt/sanding as needed during the 2017-2018 snow season. Sealed quotes will be accepted until 7:00 PM on November 6th, when they will be opened and reviewed at the regular monthly Board of Supervisors meeting. Please mail sealed quotes to the Clerk or you may bring sealed quotes to the Town Hall by 7:00 PM on November 6, 2017. Please mark the outside of the envelope as Snow Plowing Quote, 2017-2018. Quoting contractors are strongly recommended to attend the September meeting to answer questions.

Quotes must include what type of equipment will be used, age of equipment, and hourly rate. Quotes shall also include price for salt/sand in ton units and mixture percentage. We ask that contractors answer this question as well: Approximately how many hours would it take to plow 42 miles of roads (75% gravel) when weve received 6 inches of snow over a 4 hour period of time? Note: the general guideline is to plow after a snow fall of three inches. Tarred roads may be plowed at a different interval.

The company that is selected must provide proof of insurance upon notification of successfully receiving the contract. The Athens Township Board of Supervisors reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the quotes in the interest of the Township. If you have any questions please call the Township Roads Supervisor at (763) 444-7583.

Diane Carpenter

Coffey is a former Minnesota Golden Gopher and Minnesota Timberwolf. Before his playing days, Coffey also served as an Airborne Paratrooper in the U.S. Army for three years.

Currently, Coffey is a motivational speaker, and life coach. Coffey came to offer students his insights to what he calls, “The Seasons of Life.”

Coffey started the event by explaining C.A.P.

“Change, attitude and perseverance is key for your personal and professional development in life,” he said.

He spoke on the importance of having the right people around you, and having the right mental attitude for success. It is not enough to just succeed at something; you must teach yourself how to be a successful person in all facets of your life.

In the age of social media and technology, Coffey stressed the fact that everyone, now more than ever, has their own personal brand.

“You are your brand,” he said. “Whether it is walking down the street, or online, you display your brand.”

Coffey explained social media is a blessing and curse as people now have the ability to communicate with people all over the world whenever they want. The “curse” is that anything put online can be seen by these same people all over the world and it is there forever.

Coffey explained professional adults these days must be conscious of what they post to social media. Coffey added he made sure his own kids realize things they post on Facebook or Instagram can follow them into their professional lives.

While social media accounts can be set to “private,” Coffey mentioned it is not uncommon for a potential employer to ask to have access to your page.

“They will ask if you have Facebook, or you have Twitter,” he said. “They will say ‘alright pull it up, let me see.’”

The majority of students at Anoka-Ramsey are in what Coffey calls, “The Growth Stage.” Young adults who are trying to gain new skills and knowledge. For these people, Coffey stressed the point of having power within.

He shared his story about visiting the University of Minnesota for the first time, and almost not having the courage and commitment to stay.

“There were more people in that lecture hall than there were in my entire hometown,” he said.
Being able to gain skills and better yourself can only come when you learn to move past your fears. As Coffey put it, “fear is small, it has no power.”

Coffey said once we decide to not give in to our fear, and take a chance, is when we grow as people. Growing as a person will help improve your brand, and help give you the tools you need to be successful in life.

The main goal of Coffey’s talk was to stress the fact that this is the season of life where young people must learn these things. In this season of growth, people must understand how to grow, and have the courage and confidence to do it.
