One reason why nutrition is so important is that we can improve our well-being quite dramatically by simply exchanging the food that has poor nutritional value for food that has much higher nutritional value.
The quickest way to get results is to select the food that we think has the least nutritional value and replace it with one with much higher nutritional value.
Replacing something with poor nutritional value, with something with slightly better nutritional value will help very little. This is because we have only changed the effect, without getting rid of the problem.
Often our lifestyle is such that it is difficult to change as many meals as is ideal, so it is better to select the ones that have the greatest effect and greatest benefit.
There are many things working against us in our seach for good nutrition, that slow down our progress. Some of them are obvious, but many are hidden away.
We assume or are lead to believe that our food selection is OK, but in reality it may not have the nutritional value that we expect.
And if we eat a high percentage of food like this our body is going to struggle to function the way we would expect it to.
This is why nutrition is so important to develop eating habits that help our body to function better than it would with poor nutrition.
And good nutrition starts with the liquid we should drink each day. Make a serious effort to drink sufficient water and many of our problems will reduce.
The water we drink, the food we eat and the exercise we do should all have equal importance for good nutrition.

How can we simplify our diet to improve the quality and maximise nutritional value?
Lets take a soup as an example. Many recipes contain a long list of ingredients, but are they actually necessary?
For our soup we will select whatever single vegetable takes our fancy or we happen to have.
It could be celery, courgette, leeks, onions, potato, pumpkin, tomato, etc, etc.
We take sufficient quantity of our selection, peel it, wash it and cut it into small chunks and place it in a pressure cooker with a cup or more of water, depending on the quantity of the ingredients.
That is it then:- water + our selected vegetable (one of them only, because we want to be able to taste and know what we are eating).
We cook it for the required time, let it cool a bit and then use a liquidiser to bring it to a consistency for your taste. Add water as necessary to obtain the consistency you prefer.
Warm through before serving and add a little salt and pepper if necessary to suit your taste.
The end result will depend on the quality of the ingredients, so if the taste is not to your liking, then look at the quality of the contents available to you.
It may take a few attempts to get it to your liking and different vegetables and seasons may require different quantities of water, but this can be adjusted at the final cooking phase.
What we are trying to achieve is ingredients with good natural quality, with a minimum of chemicals and pesticides in them, so that our body can get the maximum nutrients out, without having to wage a war with unnatural elements.
And if we can minimise the amount of bread, etc, we have with a meal like this, we may just be doing our bodies a big favour – especially if we suffer from allergies, lack energy or are overweight.

We have all heard the phrase that “An Apple A Day Will Keep the Doctor Away”. Today we need to consider the quality of the apple we are eating far more than in the past.
Our food quality is deteriorating and catching out many people who are unaware of this trend and their health is suffering accordingly.
In the apple example we either need to eat many more to gain the same essential nutrients or eat the best quality ones to achieve the same result.
Also, food processing, such as cooking the apple will usually result in reduced nutritional value to us.
Food processing is not just about buying packaged processed food – but it is what we do to the food ourselves.
Some foods require cooking to release their nutritional value, but generally we are reducing the nutritional value by cooking or processing.
So the simpler we keep our food preparation, the more nutritional value we should retain and the fewer unhealthy additives we are adding to our diet.
If we reduce additives to our food, we may be able to save some money and improve the quality and often the taste as well.

There are many easy ways that we can improve our nutrition. Having a variety of food helps us get sufficient nutritional value.
If we are fortunate enough to live somewhere where the food quality is good, we may simply have to think about the nutritional value of the food available to us and have enough variety to cover what we need.
If we cook most of our own meals, we are also in a good position to improve our nutrition. Most recipies include ingredients that we simply do not need for good nutrition. Try reducing these over a period of time
Many ingredients are there to add flavour and make cooking easier. Often a simple recipe will taste great, simply because you are tasting what it is, rather than trying to enhance the flavour.
If we rely on others to provide sufficient nutritional value in our food, it may be more difficult. The first step is always the same – learning which foods have nutritional value for us.
If this is all completely new to you – don’t give up just yet. If you don’t understand why nutrition is important to you – consider one thing. We are what we eat.
So what would you like to be? Would you like to have more energy? Would you like to be less likely to have allergic reactions, to brush off influenza, to avoid debilitating diseases later on in life?
Don’t believe that it is possible to minimize all these simply by taking a litle more care with what we eat?
Would you believe that its possible to lose all your excess weight, simply by eating food with nutritional value and doing some exercise?
While we all need to eat and drink to live, why not change what we eat to get the maximum benefit from it?
Good nutrition is simply a matter of using what we eat to benefit our body, rather than causing problems for ourselves in the future.

The purpose of this website is to encourage you to improve your nutrition and to concentrate more on “how” than “why”.
Taking more care of our nutrition can repay us quite quickly. Its a great feeling to do some exercise, whether it is mowing the lawn, some housework or going for a walk and complete it feeling better than you used to.
It is usually encouraged to combine improved nutrition with more exercise. If you are none too enthusiastic about exercise, this can be a good enough reason to do nothing about improving your nutrition.
Some of you will find that as your nutrition improves, your energy improves and it may take very little effort to increase your exercise level.
There are also many ways that we can get more exercise, with just small changes in our lifestyle.
There will be many of you who have no problem with the exercise side of the equation, but don’t understand how improved nutrition can help considerably.
A lot of the problems relating to nutrition are simply because of how our lifestyles are. We may be aware that things aren’t quite right, but don’t know why or bother until we come up against a wall (usually of the medical kind).
The great thing about improving our nutrition, is that we can really change our life for the better.
It is about retaking control of our own lives and laying the foundations for a longer and healthier life.
