We have some great Programs planned for this summer! We hope you'll Read with us and earn some fun prizes along the way. Here is a rundown of our programs separated by age group:

All Ages
-June 4th 6:30-8 pm Night at the Library- Kickoff Party Snacks, crafts, short film. Dress as your favorite book character. First 50 Summer Readers get a glow-in-the-dark "Dream Big" gel bracelet.
- July 21st 12pm - 2pm Summer Reading Finale Food, Games and Door Prizes. Summer Reading winners will be announced.

Read-to-Me (Ages PreK-3 to 5)

- June 7th 3:30-5:30 Forensic Files - Solve a mystery with forensics.
- June 14th 3:30-5:30 Books Under Cover - craft an eReader or notepad cover from a hard-bound book.
- June 19th 3-4:30 Strange Magic Workshop - Magician Tommy Johns will teach Street Magic.
- June 28th 3:30- 5:30 Zombie Madness - Magic City Face Paint will transform you into a Zombie
This year's Teens Grand Prize: A New eReader!Other Prizes: 5 Backpacks filled with goodies.

Our new selection of Irondale Library Bags arrived today.
There are four colors to choose from:
- Black
- Green
- Sky Blue
- Purple.
Sale of the bags will benefit the Friends of the Irondale Public Library, as well as programs and services in the library.
The bags are $8.

This Thursday- May 10th at 6:30 pm

In the Irondale Public Library Meeting Room
Karen Utz of Sloss Furnaces will present Music of the Mines, Mills and Railroads of the Birmingham District.
This program presents histories and personal recollections from the musicians and their families, and includes an audio account of the unique labor-related music brought into Birmingham's industrial district by migrants.
Please join us for this educational and entertaining program.

Admission is Free.

Friday, March 30th
The City of Irondale has invested in some energy efficiency improvements.

The lighting systems and toilets will be replaced.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Books and other items owned by Irondale Public Library will not incur fines on that day.

However, just as a reminder, items from Jefferson County libraries can be returned to any other Jefferson County Library.

LSTA Grant helping to improve our Medical, Science and Parenting Collections

If you have browsed the non-fiction shelves of IPL lately you may have noticed some newer titles. That is because of a generous grant opportunity from LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act). This grant was made available to us from the Alabama Public Library Service.

We have been adding new titles steadily over the last few months. Our goal is to provide relevant and timely materials... especially in the Medical, Science and Parenting sections.

Some of our new parenting additions are:
The Special Needs Parent Handbook
The Science of ADHD: A Guide for Parents and Professionals
Allergies and Asthma: What Every Parent Needs to Know
Parenting an Adult with Disabilities or Special Needs : Everything You Need to Know to Plan for and Protect Your Child's Future
Applying to College for Students with ADD or LD : a guide to keep you (and your parents) sane, satisfied, and organized through the admission process

Preschool Storytime with Ms. Nina!

On Feb 2nd, ALABAMA GIVES DAY is a great way to show your support for the services of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative. Some of the services include: internet access in public libraries, book delivery among the libraries and access to databases.

Irondale Public Library could not give the level of service that we offer without the Jefferson County Library Cooperative.

Coffee Tasting at the Irondale Library

We have had a great response for the Friends Coffee Tasting presented by Red Bike Coffee.
All spaces are full for this event but we are still taking names on the waiting list. The Coffee Tasting will be January 29th at 2:30.

eBooks service from Overdrive will be down for upgrades today

eBooks will be down for a short while today. The people at Overdrive are upgrading our equipment.

The down time will include all downloadable books-- Audio and eReader.

The engineers at Overdrive expect the downtime to begin at 10:30 am and last up to 2 hours.

Twenty-one grand prize winners from throughout the US will win a trip for 2 to WrestleMania 28 in Miami Florida.
