I am reporting from the land of Hummers and golf carts. I have witnessed older men driving to Safeway in the comfort of their golfing vehicles. Thinking about it, I guess golf carts are environmentally friendly right?

Anyways, I am super excited because there is a Forever 21 store that is huge, here in AZ! I am talking department store huge, envision Macy's going out of business and Forever 21 purchasing the retail space! I didn't have enough time the other day to explore the endless possibilities of fabulous cheap clothing that needs to be added to my wardrobe. I will let you know what I find.....

I have a new Twitter picture for you guys. I think of my blog everywhere I go!
Oh, My mom took me to this awesome shop in old town Scottsdale yesterday. Everything was imported straight from Mexico and the prices were incredible. (aka dirt cheap) I picked up a hand painted cross for $25. I love all the colors on it, purples and reds, greens etc.

I want to start out by apologizing for not writing a blog all week. I officially took a vacation from EVERYTHING! And it felt great.

I have been here for a week and I am having the best time! I hit up Coffee Bean & Tea leaf every morning for an Ultimate Ice Blended Mocha, followed by fabulous trips to the hottest boutiques. The fashion here in Arizona is extreme. There are a number of girls who are tan-a-holics and look as if they take fashion advice from the manikins posing in the windows of Bloomingdales. One sales clerk referred the women of Scottsdale as “walking, talking, Porn stars”. I do agree that some take the look of perfection too far and end up looking like Barbie. However, I have witnessed some that obtain excellent fashion sense. My mom refers to herself as a transplant and openly states wherever we are that, “everyone that lives here in AZ is most likely from somewhere else.” I have taken notice of the Portland inspired fashion that a lot of AZ girls have. Hippie Fashion!

Drink of the Day! - Rollin’ Stoned

Ingredients:

Ice cubes
2 measures Thai whiskey
1 Dash banana liqueur
1 Dash raspberry liqueur
1 Dash lime juice
2 measures of orange juice
2 measures of pineapple juice
Orange slices to decorate
Cherries to decorate (And if you are like me: to eat!)

Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into glass filled with ice cubes. Add Cherries and Orange slices to side of glass, add straw and enjoy!

Appetizer to go with that Fabulous Rollin’ Stoned drink - Jalapeno Poppers!

Ingredients:

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chilies, drained
2 ounces canned diced jalapeno peppers, drained
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS

Stir together cream cheese & mayonnaise in a bowl until smooth.
Stir in green chilies and jalapeno peppers.
Pour mixture into a microwave safe serving dish, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Microwave on High until hot, about 3 minutes.

Note: If desired: brown cheese in oven for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.-IFG

Hippie Chic - Not Geek

Hi Fashionistas!

Its packing time! I’ve decided that my “look” for this trip is going to be hippie chic. I find that when it’s over a hundred degrees outside it helps to be as comfortable as possible. Plus, with hippie fashion your hair can have that wavy and messy look, as long as it’s clean…think flower child when you style your locks.

The only expensive items that I am taking are all my True Religion jeans. I love True Religion’s for many reasons….First, they look so fabulous, it’s crazy how many compliments I receive about them. Second, when you are wearing jeans that cost over $300 people usually assume that everything you are wearing is expensive. Therefore, my trick is I wear really cute inexpensive shirts all the time with my True Religions. I always notice the catty girls as they eyeball me up and down when I walk by. Girls, many of you are not slick and if you really like an outfit that another girl is wearing….It is totally ok to compliment her on it! You might even find out where she shops and you can adopt the same style. And if you hate the outfit, just be thankful you have an evolved style and move on.

If your wallet can handle it I recommend checking out a True Religion store near you. The bags are fabulous…Talk about hippie! They all have that “Mischa Barton” look.

Hello Fellow Fashionistas!

As the week continues to move along, I am starting to prepare for my trip to Arizona. I have a 9am flight on Saturday, and I am petrified of flying. I hate take off, but once I am in the air, I find that I am immensely amused by all the tiny houses and cars underneath me. I always have to remind myself that if the pilots fail to do their job properly…they are going down with me, and that always makes me feel so much better.The thought of taking prescription “happy pills” right before my flight is all too enticing; Unfortunately, I do not want to be all la la (aka really irresponsible) seeing as though my cat Lily will be accompanying me on US Airways.

So, I am doing everything in my power this week to avoid any “bad thoughts”. I find that shopping makes my worries go away momentarily. So, I made a trip to H&M over the weekend and the summer collection rocks! Bright, fun, and beautiful colors have exploded all over the store….You know the colors that I have been rambling on about for weeks! If you didn’t already know, H&M has cleverly mastered and advertised to the “I love to wear fabulous clothes but I can hardly afford them” crowds, and I hate to say it but….I am a huge fan of disposable clothing. -IFG

Seen On The Street Report: UGH To Uggs In Hot Weather!

Ok, yesterday was blistering hot...My skin felt like it was going to melt off at one point. So, what does everyone do when they want to avoid the heat? Go to the mall! Walking through the mall I spotted a fashion catastrophe..... Uggs with a mini skirt! My golden rule for my uggs, when its over 70 degrees outside fur lined boots are a no-go! Please girls lets not be trashy this summer, the sexy Eskimo look needs not apply to sweltering weather. There are gorgeous sandals out this season that will coordinate with all your shorts and skirts. (Leave the Uggs at home)

Bubble Baths And Fruit Smoothies

Bubble bathes, candles, and fruit smoothies are all essential items for the perfect Sunday afternoon. There is nothing better in life then being able to stay in pajamas all day while curled up in a soft blanket reading a book.

Relax, even if you are dreading the week that is before you. I always recommend at least one day a week to allow your skin/face to breath. No matter how good you think your makeup is, there is nothing better for your complexion then a day off. Today is the day that you give yourself a complete facial. Take time for you to prepare for the week ahead.

iPhone Fashion Girl Travels To Scottsdale!

Hello!

You know what job I always thought was really cool… being a travel journalist, or a TV host for the Travel Channel. I always think to myself, “how awesome would it would be to have their job?” I love watching episodes of Anthony Zimmerman consuming weird foods that are considered a delicacy, (aka really gross) let me tell you, that is a job I will not be applying for anytime soon! But I would love the opportunity to travel around for a year, visiting exotic locations that I can only dream about.

So, this summer I have made the decision to take a test run as a traveling journalist, to Scottsdale Az. OK, I know its not super cool like going to the Bahamas but it is a start! When I first started this blog, I really wanted a place where people could find useful information. What’s more useful then being able to read reviews about restaurants, museums, and the occasional lounge? As I embark on my summer journeys, I will post exclusive blogs, (randomly) throughout my weeks of travel, starting at the end of this month.

Anyways, today's tip of the day is, "How to apply false eyelashes"... She does a great job explaining every detail you should know, but beware...her eye make up is a little extreme. -IFG

The Recessionistas Cocktail Party!

It is cocktail time!

I love Friday’s. Friday nights mark the end of the work week and the endless possibilities of the upcoming new week. Who says you have to go to a trendy Nightclub/bar to have a fabulous time? Cocktail Parties are perfect for us Recessionistas!

Sea Breeze is my drink of choice tonight!

Ingredients:

Ice cubes
2 measures/shots of Vodka
4 measures of cranberry juice
2 measures of pink grapefruit juice
Lime wedges
Sprite (optional)

Fill glass with ice cubes. Add vodka, fruit juices and sprite. Squeeze a little of lime into the glass, using the other lime slices to hang on the rim of the glass. Stir lightly and enjoy!

Tip: Before making your cocktails, take your glass, run a lime wedge along the rim and dip upside down onto a plate of sugar (or salt depending on the favor of the drink)

Artichoke & Spinach Dip- I love this recipe!
Note: No one should be counting calories on Friday! So I do not want any emails regarding the nutritional facts.
INGREDIENTS

1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained
1/3 cup grated Romano cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease baking dish.
In a blender, place artichoke hearts, Romano cheese, Parmesan cheese and garlic. Continue blending into small pieces, but not ground. Set aside.
In a bowl, mix together spinach, sour cream and mozzarella cheese. Stir in artichoke mixture. Spoon into prepared baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve with Chips, crackers, or carrots and celery.

Finals Are Finished And I Feel Fabulous!

Traveling Bags With A Twist!

I absolutely love to travel but it breaks my heart every time I have to leave my pets behind. Well, I discovered the beauty of bringing my animals with me. Many hotels and airlines accommodate both dogs and cats with a prior reservation.

About two years ago, my fiancé rescued a tiny kitten from a dumpster behind an apartment complex. It broke my heart when he handed her to me, she was extremely malnourished, her tail was broken in two places and her fur was so filthy I could not make out what color she was. I insisted we go to the local vet immediately. When we arrived they took one painful look at her and advised me not to become attached, the vet doubted her ability to survive through the week.

I did not take this news lying down! I knew she would survive mainly because she hissed at everything that moved! I saw the fire behind her beautiful blue eyes. I took her home, washed her everyday, wrapped her up in blankets while I bottle fed her. I watched as she grew stronger with every passing day. I wanted to cry with joy the first time I heard her purr. I fell deeply in love with her, it is very hard for me to leave her at home. So I take her along on every trip. I totally understand if you are beginning to think I am a crazy cat lady, whatever, if the label fits.

I am constantly flying out to Scottsdale, Arizona on United Airlines because they allow me to bring my cat on board with me. They have regulations that your pet has to meet such as: has to be at least eight weeks old, needs a health certificate from veterinarian and Pet must be able to fit into carry on size bag. Steve Urkel Meets Up With The iPhone Fashion Girl

Talk about the need to be a Recessionista!

I have been applying for jobs everywhere and its like pulling teeth to get a response. I am a madman on Craigslist.com hunting for that perfect summer job (that will accommodate summer school of course). I am getting the a strong feeling that "summer jobs" no longer exist.

During a recent interview I listened as the retail manger rambled on about how the company was not accepting new hires until late June. I swear all I heard was la, la, la, you are wasting your time, la, la, best of luck to you. Although, I was disappointed about the time wasted on the interview, I decided to take myself to lunch. Yes, many of you are probably thinking, "if you can't find a job then why are you eating out?" I will tell you...... It was because my outfit was way too cute to go back home!

Anyways, the point of my story is while I was sitting outside enjoying my avocado on sourdough bread sandwich, this guy passed by and he amazed me. (I have a boyfriend whom I love dearly so its not what you think)

This guy was in his 20's. And he was dressed like a cooler version of Steve Urkel. I am talking suspenders, rolled up pants, and glasses; yup, he had it all. Strangely, he looked really really cool. I wanted to ask him if I could take a photo to post up on my blog, but I felt weird because he was eating his lunch.

I wonder if he is just super unique? Let me know if you have seen this trend where you live. I will be really excited if the Steve Urkel style applies everywhere, not just California.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's day!

I do not have any children of my own. Although lately I am constantly surround by kids. Let me explain, I started to volunteer at the local Children's Discovery Museum. And it is awesome, even when I found myself cleaning windows for free the other day?!? All my stress and worries about the future disappear as I help 3rd graders print paint. (Print painting is when the kids draw a picture into a Styrofoam tray, paint it, then press it onto a piece of white paper.) I always leave the facility in such a good mood. The magical happiness that children posses always amazes me...Seriously, the simplest things make kids smile. If you have the time and energy to volunteer; I highly recommend it, it makes me feel like a better person at the end of the day.

Espionage Movies With Plenty Of Eye Candy!

Espionage Movies!

Casino Royale- Daniel Craig's body is totally eye candy! And all the exotic locations are amazing.

All the Bourne movies- I love Matt Damon's character: Jason Bourne. Action packed movie, and the best part is the fight scenes look believable. I think everyone hates bad fight scenes... Right?

Golden Eye- Pierce Brosnan is an excellent Bond. Tons of action scenes (meaning guys will love to watch it with you!) and also a great story line.

Spy Games- Awesome movie! Loved it because it was not what I expected. I can't tell you what it is about because it will ruin the ending! So, go check it out!

Recessionista Budget Advice

Hello Recessionistas,

I am attempting to create a budget this month for myself, something reasonable that I can stick to. Every year I promise myself that this is the year I am going to be financially responsible! Well, it has not happened yet, but I have hope for the future. My best friend Vero is a Business major and it kills her when I report what I spend my money on every month. Her advice is for me to take more economic classes. Math is not a strong subject for me... So, I am just going to ignore her. Though, I do agree with her about the fact that I need to mange my money better. The great thing about a recession is that you are not the only one with an empty wallet. I am going to continue to shop in style but with a better understanding of money management.

We Need A Break From All The Bad News!

Ok, so today's blog is a little more personal. I always try to stay on top of what is going on in the media. But I have to admit sometimes I just ignore the news, like all the coverage of the swine flu. Yes, it makes me nervous and my thoughts are with those who are affected (wishing you a speedy recovery!). Bottom line the news is so depressing. I know its necessary but can we have stories that are uplifting as well? My morning routine consists of CNN.com updates and after today's.... I felt the need to smile about something, anything! Which brings me to my point; Susan Boyle is amazing! I have heard all the hype about her and I finally checked out what's going on. Unfortunately, I made the huge mistake of applying my makeup before I watched the video; I totally cried! Attention media: We need more stories that will bring tears of joy!

Fabulous Nails On A Saturday Afternoon

Today is all about nail care. Getting a professional manicure and pedicure is a fabulous idea for a Saturday afternoon. If you can not make it to your local nail salon today, try giving your self a manicure at home. Its easier than you think, not to mention totally relaxing. I discovered the trick to a perfect home manicure is patience! So, relax, be patient, and have fun at your first attempts to the perfect home manicure.

Mojitos & Cuban Bean Salad - Yum!

I found this awesome website, Taste of Cuba, that has tons of recipes. Check it out!

My favorite drink is absolutely a Mojito! This drink recipe is delicious!

Cuban Mojito Recipe

Ingredients

1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda

Place the mint leaves into a long mojito glass (often called a "collins" glass) and squeeze the juice from a cut lime over it. You'll want about two ounces of lime juice, so it may not require all of the juice from a single lime. Add the powdered sugar, then gently smash the mint into the lime juice and sugar with a muddler (a long wooden device, though you can also use the back of a fork or spoon if one isn't available). Add ice (preferably crushed) then add the rum and stir, and top off with the club soda. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Cuban Bean Salad

1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. white wine vinegar
2 tsp. ground cumin
1 fresh jalapeño pepper, seeded, finely chopped
1/4 tsp. dried oregano leaves
1-1/2 cups chopped CLAUSSEN Kosher Dill Pickles
1 can (15 oz.) black beans, drained, rinsed
1 can (15 oz.) pinto beans, drained, rinsed
1 can (15 oz.) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained, rinsed
1 stalk celery, sliced
1/2 red pepper, cut into 2-inch strips
2 green onions, sliced
1 tomato, chopped

MIX oil, cilantro, lemon juice, vinegar, cumin, jalapeno pepper and oregano in large bowl until well blended.

ADD remaining ingredients; mix lightly. Cover. Refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Stir gently just before serving.

Salad may be prepared the day ahead. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Substitute lime juice for lemon juice if desired.

Makes: 8 cups. -IFG
