Specialist Workshops on Healthy Ageing

May 02, 2012

The day before the College of Medicine's 2012 Annual Conference on Healthy Ageing , the College of Medicine will be running four related specialist workshops. They cover women's health, back pain, anticipating the needs of an ageing population and herbal medicine. The Herbal Medicine workshop might be of special interest to you.

Workshop 4: Herbal medicine. From prescriber to guide? - The herbal self care option (2 May, 14.00 - 17.00)

People understandably feel comfortable contributing to health care on their own terms and often favour approaches that feel natural. Registered herbal medicines, which add pharmaceutical standards and plausible effectiveness, provide almost ideal self care options. There are fundamental health care tasks that are mostly not prescription business.

In this workshop Simon Mills, Dr Michael Dixon and Dr Dick Middleton will look at specific ways you can guide your patients to use herbs to help manage their stress, aches and pains, sleep, digestion, and capacity to cope with life and resist disease.

We will link herbal options to the College of Medicine's Self Care Library to produce practical toolkits that you use straightaway. We will also look at the logistics of using herbal medicine, what the law says, how to find the ones you need and other resources that can help.

More information: http://www.collegeofmedicine.org.uk/annual-conference-optional-workshops

The workshops are part of the College of Medicine 2012 Healthy Ageing annual conference programme at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Just come to the workshops or attend the whole conference and dinner as a package.

2009 Nobel Laureate, international expert in ageing and Telomeres, Professor Elizabeth Blackburn who will be the Conference keynote speaker on 3 May.

See the full conference programme here: http://www.collegeofmedicine.org.uk/sites/default/files/com_conf2012_lowres_pages.pdf

Booking and more information, visit http://www.collegeofmedicine.org.uk/annual-conference-2012 .
