UCC Mass - Lamb of God

This setting of the Lamb of God is part of the Mass for the University Catholic Community.

When I play this, there is usually enough time to sing four verses, but you may sing fewer or more verses as appropriate. The modulation should only occur on the last verse. Feel free to substitute your own variations for “Lamb of God”, i.e., “King of kings”, “Son of God”, etc.

Welcome! Into Your Hands is a showcase for the sacred and spiritual music I’ve composed in all my years as a church musician and a platform for sharing that music.

On this site you will find:

settings for responsorial psalms,
service music, including parts of the Mass, and
songs of worship and praise.

Most of my music consists of settings for the responsorial psalms that are central to Catholic liturgy. For these, I rely on the translations provided by The Grail as found in The Catholic Book of Worship III, the official English hymnal for Canada. The Grail has kindly provided me permission to reprint the texts of those psalms for use with my settings. Please see the license page for details.

The name of this site comes from Psalm 31, as used in the Good Friday liturgy: “Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit”. The site is dedicated to my grandmother, Yvette LeHenaff, who left us for God on March 26, 2009.

There is no advertising on this site, nor am I asking for any donations. You are free to use the music found here for non-commercial worship purposes, but any other use requires permission from the appropriate copyright holders.

Psalm 22 — “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” — is the psalm for Passion Sunday (also known as Palm Sunday). It foreshadows the crucifixion of Jesus and thus goes well with the reading of the Passion that happens on this Sunday.

This setting is a fairly quiet one, in contrast to the ones I’ve written before and will upload later. And as this the first psalm I’m publishing here, it is dedicated to my grandmother Yvette LeHenaff, recently deceased and greatly missed.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Verse 1:
All who see me deride me,
they turn their lips, they toss their heads:
“He trusted int he Lord, let him save him;
Let him release him if this is his friend.”

Verse 2:
Many dogs have surrounded me,
a band of wicked beset me;
they tear holes in my hands and my feet;
I can count every one of my bones.

Verse 3:
They divide my clothing among them;
they cast lots for my robe.
O Lord do not leave me alone;
Lord my strength make haste to help me!

Verse 4:
I will tell of your name to my people;
you who fear the Lord, give him praise!
all the children of Jacob give him glory,
children of Israel revere him!
