BACK! and Animated Coming Atractions

okay, first things first, both internet ninja and myself both had our net taken away by the man...damn economic situation. I'm back now, and internet ninja won't be far behind...

okay, been watching a lot of animation lately. All sorts, but mostly i have been watching movies made by marvel, dc and dark horse or based on their characters. Comic book based animation, and some Avatar Last Air Bender, I will leave that until last tho.
I am excited by the crop of animated shows to come from these guys. So I am going to bring your attention to some of the upcoming ones.

Dark horse are releasing a Conan animated movie, based on the 'Red Nails' story by Robert E Howard. LINK

the Green Lantern is getting his own feature animated film, im not a huge fan of the character but I like what DC have done with their animated ventures latly, even Wonder Woman was good(watched it last night).

Deadpool Movie Fast-tracked

After the Deadpool character was butchered in the Wolverine Origins Movie, everyone is quite skeptical about a solo Deadpool movie. Ryan Reynolds in my opinion was made for the role, and pulled off what he was allowed to in Wolverine.

He has been making statements about the movie alot since Wolverine was released. MTV News has the latest interview. He is basicaly selling the movie before anything has been made, but I think thats a good thing, the more people who have an idea of what the movie MUST/SHOULD be will make the execs pause before they cut any meat from the Deadpool characters persona or story.

With the damage done to the character in Wolverine? I dont think it will be an issue, this is a comic book movie, clones, all that. Aspects of Wade Wilsons origin story arent essential, I think they have left alot of room for the character.

I personally cannot wait for this, words like faithful, and authentic are passed around alot with adaptations but still im hopeful.

Microsoft has said social networking sensations Twitter and Facebook, along with Internet radio star Last.fm, are connecting to the Xbox 360 videogame console online world.

The announcements Monday came on the eve of a major Electronic Entertainment Expo trade gathering in Los Angeles and as Microsoft jockeys to put Xbox 360 consoles at the heart of home entertainment.

Console owners that subscribe to Xbox Live become part of an Internet videogame community with benefits such as being able to connect to Netflix online film rental service.

By year's end, Xbox Live members will be able to access their Twitter or Facebook accounts through consoles, posting content and connecting with friends the same way they might by using computers or smart phones.

"This is a Facebook experience customized for your living room," actress Felicia Day said as she demonstrated the new Xbox Live feature at a Microsoft press conference.

The link is essentially a Facebook application for Xbox 360 users, and the California social networking firm is set of making similar links to online communities for Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii console users.

Microsoft bought a 1.6-percent stake in Facebook for 240 million dollars in 2007.

"We expect to be working with all the consoles and platforms," said Facebook director of platform marketing Ethan Beard.

"It really is about making games more social. Gaming is incredibly popular on Facebook itself."

Microsoft also announced that it has enhanced its Xbox Live video offerings in the United States and arranged to let Xbox 360 owners in Britain and Ireland watch Sky TV through the videogame consoles.

An Xbox executive referred to streaming live television through a gaming console with no additional hardware as "a watershed moment for the gaming industry."

Microsoft said music from online radio station Last.fm will be streamed to consoles free of charge.

Positioning Xbox 360 consoles as al-purpose home entertainment devices for movies, music, socializing and games is a smart move by Microsoft, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said after attending the press conference.

"Being able to do Facebook on your television alone is reason enough to buy an Xbox," Pachter said. "Microsoft doesn't need everyone to be a gamer if they can get everyone in the household using the 360 for something."

Still, the Microsoft press conference was crammed with exciting videogame offerings that promise to please Xbox 360 gamers.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is a sequel that videogame analysts expect to be a "monster" when it hits stores in November. Blockbuster "Metal Gear Solid" and "Final Fantasy" franchises have Xbox 360 games on the way.

Hot action videogames being made exclusively for play on Xbox 360 consoles include "Halo 3 OTSD," Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction," "Shadow Complex," and "Crackdown 2."

"Over the past year our industry has done well in this uncertain economic climate," said Xbox corporate vice president John Schappert.

"Perhaps it is because now, more than ever, people want to have fun and they want to connect with each other from the comfort of their living rooms."

Passenger Jet Missing off the Brazilian coast

An Air France plane that disappeared Monday with 228 people aboard is likely the victim of a "huge catastrophe," the airline's CEO said.

The plane was experiencing electrical problems and turbulence before it vanished, said Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, the CEO of Air France.

It lost contact with air traffic control between Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, the airline said Monday.

The plane sent out an automatic signal just after 4 a.m. Paris time warning of the electrical problems as it flew over an area "far from the coast," said a spokeswoman, who declined to be identified. It had just entered a stormy area with strong turbulence, she said.

The plane was carrying 126 men, 82 women, seven children and a baby, in addition to the crew, Air France officials in Brazil told CNN.

There has been speculation it was struck by lightning, but that should not bring down a modern airliner, former Airbus pilot John Wiley told CNN.

Brazil's air force launched a search near the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha in the Atlantic Ocean, 365 km (226 miles) from Brazil's coast, a spokesman for the air force told CNN.

Two Brazilian squadrons are searching for the plane, although it disappeared after it left the country's radar space, said the officer, who declined to be named.

The flight, AF 447, took off shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday local time (6 p.m. Sunday ET) for the 11-hour flight, with 216 passengers and 12 crew members. It was scheduled to land in Paris at 11:15 a.m. local time (5:15 a.m. ET).

The last known contact with the plane was at 1:33 a.m. GMT (8:33 p.m. Sunday night ET), the Brazilian Air Force spokesman said.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressed his "very deep concern" and asked the government "to implement every effort to find the plane," according to a statement from his office.

The French ambassador to Senegal told BFMTV that French military aircraft had been dispatched to search around Cape Vert or Green Cape off the coast of Senegal.

Airline officials said they will release further updates through Agence France-Presse (AFP), France's largest news organization.

"We are very worried," an aviation official told AFP. "The plane disappeared from the screens several hours ago. It could be a transponder problem, but this kind of fault is very rare and the plane did not land when expected."

The airline set up a crisis center at the Paris airport. It listed two numbers for families to call -- 0 800 800 812 for people in France and 00 33 1 57 02 10 55 for families outside France.

Somber members of the families could be seen entering a special terminal set aside for them at Charles de Gaulle airport.

The missing aircraft is an Airbus 330 -- a state-of-the-art plane and only about four years old, the airline said.

Its last maintenance check was on April 16, the airline said.

The crew of 12 consisted of 3 pilots and 9 cabin crew, including a captain with 11,000 hours of flying experience. Some 1,700 of those hours are on the A330 and A340. There are two co-pilots, one with 3,000 hours of flying experience and the other with 6,600 hours. The aircraft had done 18,870 hours of flying.

The model is "capable of communicating in several different ways over quite long distances even if they are out of radar coverage," said Kieran Daly of the online aviation news service Air Transport Intelligence.

Airbus has opened a crisis room and their flight safety team is in place, a company spokesperson told CNN. Airbus is working closely with authorities and Air France, he said, declining to comment further.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Okay, so there is one one image in my life that consistently makes me happy no matter when I think about it, and that image, that one image, is your big...I mean the Avengers movie. AVENGERS, on film, each character standing together maybe posing, not needing a back story because they have had their own intro movies, a movie which is nothing but kick ass the entire way through. Filled to the top with super people doing super things, not crying and coming to grips with being super and being different, explored that in X-Men lets let go of the analogies to modern life, or being gay. Evil Villians, crazy evil plots, action, costumes and effects up the ass.

USA Today has this piece on the Avengers, Favreu director of Iron Man had this to say,

"but the ones Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man. I would love to see that."

I agree, except on the Ant-Man, keep Pym as an antagonist in the background i say. Ant Man should be the newest version of the character, a normal guy with a suit he stole, a fuck up. That is the movie, Edgar Wright of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame should be making. We now know that Black Widow is in the Iron Man 2 movie, setting up another character for the Avengers line up, and it might be Scarlett Johansson?

“If we don’t get it right it’s really, really going to suck,” said Downey. “It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters.”

So its going to have to be done really well, and the end of the Incredible Hulk, where Bruce Banner starts to control the Hulk made me very happy. Next Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 2, once the ball gets rolling I hope it never stops.

Ohio man arrested for mowing

An Ohio man arrested for mowing unkept grass at a public park said he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he took control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky's Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.

Police said they arrested 48-year-old Hamilton after he refused to stop mowing and charged him with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

City Manager Matt Kline called the arrest unfortunate and said he understands Hamilton's frustration. Kline said budget cuts have left Sandusky understaffed for seasonal maintenance work.

Internet explorer 8 preferred over Firefox?

Is Mozilla Firefox better than Internet Explorer? Can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of using Firefox vs. Microsoft's Web browser? It looks like our friends in Redmond did a good job of "mimicking" most of the Firefox browser's layout and functionality.

While various browsers will likely continue to leapfrog one another with features and functionality, as of this writing Internet Explorer 8 has a few usability and security advantages that in my opinion make it a better and safer choice than Firefox.

Features such as in-private browsing, cross-site scripting protection, domain-name highlighting and tab isolation are a few examples that are either not present or not equaled in the current Firefox. Browser preferences are personal, but from my perspective of giving general advice, Internet Explorer 8 along with Windows Vista and updated antivirus (along with some common sense) is the safest and most practical environment.

I have a Compaq Presario 6000 running Microsoft Windows XP. I often receive this error message: "Windows — Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low. Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file." Do I need to worry about this?

Virtual memory is a process where the computer uses hard disk space as an augmentation of your physical memory, RAM. The ideal situation is to have enough physical RAM to keep virtual memory utilization to a minimum: Accesses to virtual memory are slower than accessing physical memory. This is usually the most common performance bottleneck, but inexpensive memory prices make it an easy problem to fix. Meanwhile, here is how to expand your virtual memory in Windows XP: Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, click System and then the Advanced tab. In the Performance pane, click Settings and then the Advanced tab. In the Virtual Memory pane, click Change. If "System Managed size" is not selected, select it. Otherwise, select "Custom Size." Change the Maximum size value to a value higher than what is current displaying as the "Currently Allocated" value at the bottom of that dialog window. Make Initial size value 1000 MB less than the Maximum value. Click Set, OK and close the Performance Options dialog box. You will need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

I'm running Windows XP and have always been able to copy or burn items from my picture, documents and music file on CDs. Now for some reason it will not allow me to copy from My Documents any picture files. It will still copy from my music files. I have two drives, E and F. I left-click on the item I want to copy, it asks me where I want to copy it to and I click on E drive. Then I get an error that says, "E not accessible, Incorrect function." It also does this with the F drive. There has been no change in my computer. I just downloaded Internet Explorer 8 to see if that would help, but it did not. I have done a restore back to the day I bought it. Defragged and nothing helps.

Try this: Right-click on either of the problematic drives and select Properties, Recording tab, and then check the "Enable CD Recording On This Drive" box. Sometimes, inexplicably, this can get reset. If this solves the issue for the drive, repeat it on the other drive.

Google recognises that email is quite similar to older forms of communication. It basically is the electronic form of the postal service but it is much faster and cheaper than the latter.

So Google is now paying a lot of efforts on Google wave which is a rethink of the whole email idea.

The most important thing about Google wave is that it runs in a browser but you do not need to download any additional software so it is much like gmail.

Just like gmail ties your email strings together neatly into conversations, Wave also functions in the same way. You can use it just like your email to drag and drop photos and other items into the message right from your computer. Wave is rather more of a cross over between an email and a messenger.

Shooting fellow Officer, African American Police Officer in the wrong place at the wrong time

It's a police officer's nightmare scenario: Confronting someone who appears to be an armed suspect and opening fire, only to discover that person was actually an officer not in uniform.

It's the kind of mistake that haunts a department, opens it to scrutiny, and dominates headlines. While the phenomenon has happened around the country, New York is home to several cases in the past few years.

But friendly fire incidents with police are fairly rare, according to federal statistics, likely a testament to procedures in place in police departments around the country.

"There's an awareness by police departments that this is a very high risk," Jim Cohen, a professor of criminal law at Fordham Law School, said Saturday. "The rules are pounded into these officers in training, and continued training, using their guns when other cops are around."

Late Thursday, Officer Omar J. Edwards, 25, was shot by a fellow officer on a Harlem street while in street clothes. He had just finished his shift, and had his service weapon out, chasing a man who had broken into his car, police said. Three plainclothes officers on routine patrol arrived at the scene and yelled for the two to stop, police said. One officer, Andrew Dunton, opened fire and hit Edwards three times as he turned toward them with his service weapon. It wasn't until medical workers were on scene that it was determined he was a police officer.

Now, investigators are working to determine whether anyone was at fault. Witnesses are being re-interviewed and many questions remain, specifically whether Edwards identified himself as an officer, and whether Dunton's split-second judgment to fire was against department guidelines. The district attorney will likely convene a grand jury to decide whether to file charges against Dunton, as is practice for police-involved shootings. After, he will be interviewed by police. Dunton's attorney had no comment.

But NYPD procedure for officer confrontation places the responsibility on the out-of-uniform officers. They are instructed to drop their weapon, stay still and to obey all directions from the uniformed officers to defuse the tense situation.

In the police academy, officers get weeks of intense training on what they call confrontations with role playing, as well as lectures on the subject. Training continues on the subject when officers leave the academy. After the shooting Thursday, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly switched on-the-job training for officers from courtroom testimony to confronting officers for the month of June.

Procedures on the topic were also recently revamped after the shooting death of Sean Bell, an unarmed man killed on his wedding night in a hail of 50 police bullets.

"We have seen fatal police-involved shootings plummet in recent decades — even as the size of the NYPD increased — because of training and disciplined use of force," said Paul Browne, the New York Police Department's deputy commissioner for public information.

"Department guidelines are neat and clean on paper, not so in the split-second reality of an armed confrontation. Our training is designed to help officers safely navigate through the hazards of the real thing."

According to statistics by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, about 22 officers have been killed in accidental shootings in the past decade. The figure includes officers caught in crossfire, mistaken for a suspect and firearm mishaps. It varies from year to year to between one and four officers killed around the country, and doesn't include those injured who survived. But, it's still staggeringly low given the tense and confusing circumstances officers regularly face. The nation's largest police department has about 34,000 officers.

"I think it goes back to context," Cohen said. "You have in law enforcement, which is perhaps different than military, a serious emphasis placed on not killing fellow officers. And that training is universal."

Still, it occurs, and when it does, the sticky issue goes deeper than issues of procedure. The FBI statistics don't specify the race of the officers killed, and many community members and leaders say race is clearly the reason for the accidents. Dunton and the other two officers were white; Edwards was black.

In 2008, a black, off-duty Mount Vernon police officer was killed by a Westchester County policeman while holding a gun on an assault suspect in suburban White Plains. In 2006, a New York City police officer, Eric Hernandez, was shot and killed by an on-duty patrolman who was responding to an attack at a White Castle in the Bronx.

In Providence, Sgt. Cornel Young Jr. was killed in 2000 while he was off duty and trying to break up a fight. He was dressed in baggy jeans, an overcoat and a baseball cap, and carrying a gun. On Saturday in Harlem, U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel joined the Rev. Al Sharpton in calling for a federal probe, while Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Kelly met with concerned community members around the city. Edwards' family mourned their son, who always wanted to be a police officer and had two small children and a wife.

"If you become an officer and you have a pistol and you are of color, in or out of uniform, your chances of getting shot down by a police officer are a lot heavier than if you were not of color," Rangel said.

A new optical recording method could pave the way for data discs with 300 times the storage capacity of standard DVDs, Nature journal reports.

The researchers say this could see a whopping 1.6 terabytes of information fit on a DVD-sized disc.

They describe their method as "five-dimensional" optical recording and say it could be commercialised.

The technique employs nanometre-scale particles of gold as a recording medium.

Researchers at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia have exploited the particular properties of these gold "nano-rods" by manipulating the light pointed at them.

The team members described what they did as adding three "dimensions" to the two spatial dimensions that DVD and CD discs already have.

They say they were able to introduce a spectral - or colour - dimension and a polarisation dimension, as well as recording information in 10 layers of the nano-rod films, adding a third spatial dimension.

The scientists used the nanoparticles to record information in a range of different colour wavelengths on the same physical disc location. This is a major improvement over traditional DVDs, which are recorded in a single colour wavelength with a laser.

Also, the amount of incoming laser light absorbed by the nanoparticles depends on its polarisation. This allowed the researchers to record different layers of information at different angles.

The researchers thus refer to the approach as 5-D recording. Previous research has demonstrated recording techniques based on colour or polarisation, but this is the first work that shows the integration of both.

As a result, the scientists say they have achieved unprecedented data density.

Their approach used 10-layer stacks composed of thin glass plates as the recording medium. If scaled up to a DVD-sized disk, the team would be able to record 1.6 terabytes - that is, 1,600 gigabytes - or over 300 times the quantity stored on a standard DVD.

Significant improvements could be made by thinning the spacer layers and using more than two polarisation angles - pushing the limits to 10 terabytes per disc and beyond, the researchers say.
