OBAN TRIP TICKETS - TUESDAY

Our first weekend trip pf the year - and an unmissable one at that! Tickets go
on sale on TUESDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER between 3pm and 5pm in GUU on the ground
floor. Price is £40

We are going to go to Oban on 3rd - 4th October. The buses will leave
University Main Gates at 9am on the Saturday and we will return at around 6pm
Sunday.

Oban is a beautifully, quaint harbour town and the main port for ferries to the
islands of the Inner Hebrides, making it a busy, bustling place to be. The
town itself has many great attractions - a chocolate factory, distillery,
McCaig's tower which gives breathtaking views over to the Isle of Mull and a
sea life centre.

However - our trip is not just to Oban - on the way to Oban we will stop and
visit the beautiful town of Inveraray, with its majestic castle, on the shores
of Loch Fyne. On top of this we are offering you the chance to get on a ferry
and visit the Isle of Mull, one of the most picturesque islands in Scotland!!!

On top of this, we'll have a great party on the Saturday night and all your

Tickets for our trip to Scotland's stunning capital city will go on sale THIS
MONDAY - 21st SEPTEMBER between 3pm and 5pm in GUU on the ground floor. Price
is £7.

The trip will take place on SATURDAY 26th SEPTEMBER. We will leave from
University Main Gates at 9am, and will stay in Edinburgh until 6pm giving you
plenty of time to explore.

Edinburgh is without a doubt the most beautiful city in Scotland, full of
history, culture and breathtaking monuments. Feel history come to life in the
spectacular Edinburgh Castle, wander through the capital's mysterious, winding,
medieval streets,seeped with history and down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace
and the Scottish Parliament. Sample Scotland's national drink, and explore the
history and brewing of it in the Whisky Experience. Climb the steps to the top

CULTURAL CARNIVAL 18:00pm, 16th Sep, Glasgow University

This fantastic FREE event will be taking place on WEDNESDAY 16th SEPTEMBER from
18:00 - 21:00 in the University Quadrangles.

It is going to be an amazing night, a truly multi-cultural experience with

Inchmurrin & Luss Trip

We’ve planned a lovely trip to Loch Lomond for you all. Inchmurrin is a very picturesque island with beautiful scenery and a lovely hotel. It also boasts the ruin of a very ancient castle and lovely beaches, and Luss is a very pretty little village set right on the shore of the Loch.
We will be travelling to the boat by coach and from there taking the tiny ferry that runs between the mainland and the island. Then we shall take a walk the length of the island to the secluded beach, which has beautiful clear waters, where, weather permitting, you will be able to go paddling, or for the more daring, swimming in the loch. Then we will return to the hotel where a feast of soup and sandwiches will be waiting for us, as well as a well stocked bar. After lunch we shall have our own little try at the Highland games, with ‘Toss the Caber’, ‘Tug-O-War’, and ‘Flinging the Haggis’. Then back to the mainland and up to the famous village of Luss, where you can go visit the tourist centre, the beach, the church, or one of the little cafes
Tickets are only £20, including both the bus and ferry and of course your scrumptious lunch. On sale on Thursday 25th from 10pm in the Primary. But there are only 30 so you’ll have to be quick.
Make sure to bring some comfortable shoes, suncream/umbrellas (whatever appropriate for the weather), your swimming costumes and towels, if you dare and of course your cameras.

10.00am: Depart
10.50am: 1st ferry
11.15am: 2nd ferry
11.30am: Visit the castle and explore the island
1.00pm: Return to the hotel for lunch

Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, is fast becoming established as one of the most desirable European destinations for visitors from all over the world. The international society annual ball will be on friday 24th of April The 2009 at the QMU. The ticket sales is on Wednesday 25th March 09 from 5pm to 6.30pm (In front of Visitors shop) . Places are limited.

Language Café

As part of the SRC's Conversational English Programme, a Language Café will be

held in the Williams Room of the John McIntyre building from 2.30pm to 4.30pm
on Wednesday 18th March. The aim of this is to bring together International
Students and confident English speakers so that students can get the chance to
improve their spoken English skills and confidence in speaking the language.

The Language Café will involve volunteers moving round and speaking to
international students on a series of topics (think of a "speed dating" format,
just without the dating...) and the SRC will provide tea/coffee for everyone.

If you're interested in attending, either to get help with your English or as a
volunteer English "tutor", then please email Chris Buckland at
