The Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology conduct a study concerning privacy and prepaid mobile phone. Let’s say prepaid is being the main topic here! Good news: if you are Canadian and have any concern regarding your prepaid service, you can share your view to the Centre members.

The Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology Web site is quite interesting. I learn that there are 3.2 million subscribers of prepaid phone…in Canada only! Now I understand why I am so busy days after days at work! I actually deal with prepaid customers from Monday to Friday, every weeks of the year. And I have no time to breathe between calls, most of the time! Other detail that I learn by reading the CPROST Web page: the pay-as-you-go business had been introduced in the 1990s.

Prepaid services are interesting and it does truly deserve its own study centre.

The AT&T Prepaid Revolution

I call it “prepaid revolution” because no one had offer such possibilities for prepaid users ever before – from what I known! And actually not in Canada. AT&T offers a super plan to their prepaid users. The largest provider of US telephone services had developed a prepaid service of its very own.

Watch it out: AT&T prepaid users had now a new plan they can use! It’s the unlimited local and long-distance calls for 3$ per day. This can be very good for consumers who need unlimited local and long-distance call for, let’s say just a few times per month or even just one day. The more flexible the price plans are, the more money can be made by carrier with prepaid services. AT&T understands that. Now, will see if similar services will be offer in Canada anytime soon.

Right now in Canada, the closest match for similar prepaid services will be with Telus who offer, for 2$ per day, unlimited evening weekend and unlimited incoming calls. But even there, we are not even close to what AT&T offers.

From a prepaid lover.

What do I do as a prepaid worker

As I explain, I had been involved in the prepaid industry since November 2007. I work for a Communications Services or, if you prefer, for a cell phone company. I work in a call center for a Prepaid Department. I treat prepaid request calls everyday, from Monday to Friday. In the busiest days, I can easily receive 50 to 60 calls of prepaid customers. My job consists at answering call of customers about their prepaid services.

I mostly help customer with the refill of their accounts with a credit card or a voucher and also whenever they experience technical difficulties with their cell phone. Time pass really quickly and I never got annoyed by the job and during the busiest time, I could easy work 12 hours in a row at refilling prepaid account, changing airtime rate, registration credit card (I very like this one!), performing credit evaluation among other. I like my job because its simple and easy – let’s say most of the time. I won’t get into details that much as I do not want to embarrass my employer by such hilarious initiative of mine, creating an organization for prepaid workers of all fields.

Prepaid services are convenient and fun for everyone. And I bet there are people out there who like and enjoy prepaid services.

I am a prepaid worker

I had been working as a prepaid agent in the cellular industry since November 2007.
