OSRAM First OLED Light Source-Orbeos

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announce its first OLED light source for premium functional lighting — the light, thin, non-glare, warm white Orbeos. The new energy-efficient surface-emitting panel is especially suited to premium applications in architecture, hotels and catering, offices, private homes and shops.

The Orbeos OLED panel has a round lamp surface of 80mm diameter, an ultra-thin design at only 2.1mm thick and weighs 24g. These limited dimensions ensure a variety of flexible, application options. With an efficiency of 25lm/W, the panel exceeds that of conventional halogen lamps. Its warm white color temperature (2,800K, CRI up to 80) matches the warm light of an incandescent lamp and is suited to lighting that is atmospheric and functional at the same time. OLEDs give off a pleasant, non– glare light and are especially well-suited for use in homes, museums, restaurants and hotels.

OLEDs open up totally new design possibilities for architects, lighting planners and designers as it is now possible to create illuminated areas with them such as lit ceiling or illuminated partitions.

Orbeos can be switched on and off without delay and is continuously dimmable. Unlike traditional LEDs, its heat management is simple. The panel contains no mercury and emits no UV or infrared radiation. Its brightness level is typically 1,000cd/m2 with power input of less than one watt. In ideal operating conditions it has a lifespan of around 5,000 hours. Orbeos is available with a frosted glass surface. The panels can be easily mounted using spring contacts.

The rapid advance of OLEDs in general lighting has succeeded largely as a result of the technical principles of the ‘Organic Phosphorescent Lamps for Applications in the Lighting Market’ project (OPAL), which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Nicolas Cage Loses His Last Castle

Nicolas Cage may come from a long line of celebrities, but his famous family tree can’t keep him out of his debt. The Detroit News reports Cage owes $6.2 million in unpaid income taxes. Now those tax problems that were first reported a few months ago are catching up with Nicolas Cage. Along with the $6 million plus in unpaid taxes, Cage is also being sued over a $2 million credit deal go wrong. Cage defaulted on the $2 million bank loan which is putting everything to ahead this moment. So, now he had to sell his English castle.

The Daily Mail report:

He reportedly paid £5 million for the pile, which is built in the shape of the ace of clubs, two years ago. A potential buyer is understood to have offered a figure close to the guide price of £3.5 million.

“The castle has just come on the market — they have stopped all work on it and instead want to sell as soon as possible,” reveals a source close to the sale of the Grade I-listed property, which sits in 35 acres of parkland and 12 acres of woodland. “They have already accepted an offer, even though it is below the guide price. Both buyer and seller want to push things through as quickly as possible.”

The funny thing is he recently sold a castle in Germany. LOL… Yup, the dude had two castles. Seriously, how does Nicolas Cage do it? A few months ago, reportedly he had to offload his Bavarian castle due to the “difficult economic situation.” Yep, hard times when you earn around $20m a movie. Despite getting into the English country life (and even looking at local schools for his son), the actor is said to have had a tax lien placed on him by L.A. authorities and is having to offload much of his property portfolio including his last castle. Cage owns a 40 acre island in the Bahamas, and homes in Rhode Island, Lousiana, Nevada, and California.

Nicolas Cage is suing his former business manager for $20 million for “Financial Ruin.” Cage claims that bad advice and mismanagement given by Samuel J. Levin and his firm led him toward financial ruin. I wonder who’s idea was it to build a English castle, for some reason I think that bit of bad advice didn’t come from the business manager but rather from Cage himself. Levin has been a licensed certified public accountant in California for nearly 25 years. The lawsuit seems to alleged that Cage had no idea that he was overextended and that it is all his accountant’s fault. First electromagnetic ‘black hole’ On Earth

An electromagnetic black hole has been built at Southeast University in Nanjing, China for the first time.

The device works like cosmological black holes in that it has gravity which is intense enough to bend the surrounding space-time, causing any matter in the neighborhood to spiral inward and create the hole itself.

The earth-built ‘black hole’ for microwave frequencies is constructed of 60 annular strips of meta-materials. Each strip is an intricately etched circuit board which seamlessly and smoothly connects to the strips next to it, creating both a shell and absorber section to the device.

When an electromagnetic wave hits the device, it is trapped and guided through the shell region toward the core, where it is absorbed. The device, which was created by Tie Jun Cui and Qiang Cheng, converts that absorbed light into heat, meaning that future possible applications could include new ways of harvesting solar energy.
