When I entered the law school for a five year course all I wanted was to just pass out and get the degree. I didn’t care whether I would be last from my batch; all I wanted was to clear out from the university. I used to think that my school days were great and I would not be able to make as good friends as then. Honestly, my college time was not as great as many; I enjoyed my time but nothing that I could say was amazingly great. But yet when I leave college today, I feel a certain loss within me. I realized that it was not I who survived the whole five years, there were people who pulled me through. How can I thank my roommate without whom I could not have cleared my exams, how can I thank some of my friends who stood by me and helped me come through some difficult time in the university and everyone around me who made me smile and laugh and made it a memorable journey to remember.
The ultimate purpose of all the journeys is to end one day. Everything that starts has to end. Finished or unfinished, desired or undesired every journey will come to an end. But to all the things in this universe there is one certainty that the world will go on. With us or without us, lives will go on. We miss people but we learn to live without them. They may be the closest person in our lives but one day you would have to let go of that person. Nothing starts or ends with any person, in your life it’s only you who has to go on. As quoted in a beautiful poem “For men may come and men may go; but I go on forever.”
But through the whole process I realized one thing that things come to an end so that we could be exposed to further more beautiful things in life. When I think of it, if my school had never ended I would not have met some of the greatest people that I met in college and who make my life complete. Every end of an era marks the beginning of a new era. As my college ends I enter into a world; the real world. I have heard that the real world sucks and one may not find the greatest people around but I have faith; I have faith that even if I am troubled somewhere someone is going to share my grief and make me survive as in the college days.
I will miss all of the people in college and as I enter into this world I shall try to find someone like them out there for me. I will try to find people who would save my ass at the last second, I shall try to find people who would be my confidante, people who would make me laugh and cry. I shall try to find another you but maybe there might not be another you.

– Ben Sweetland

Aakash, a teenager, thought that his time had come when he opted to study for Chartered Accountancy after his school life. His father was a CA practitioner and all his life all he ever wanted to become was a CA. He toiled and slogged for five years to wait for his moment to become what he always wanted and in the process he had to sacrifice quite a lot: he reduced on his socializing with friends, became serious about life and every moment felt and behaved as if it was his destiny to become CA. Although there was nothing within him that made him smarter than others around him but he had this will to be that person and that was what kept him going. The day had arrived when the results were going to be out for the final year. All the batch mates looked forward to the result.
Among the fifteen friends that gathered to watch the results, only six passed. Most of those who passed were the ones likely to pass any exams but then there were some other big time casualties as well. Aakash was one of them. He thought that the world had come to a standstill, that this could not be his fate; he was supposed to be rejoicing this moment of becoming the only thing that he ever dreamt of. But the moment of truth had struck, and he with other eight people had failed the exam and they will not be what they call the CA in first attempt. And then on things changed for Aakash; he studied as if it was a matter of formality and he had to pass it anyhow or else it would be like the end of the world. What happened in the process was that the charm of becoming that one professional he ever wanted to be was lost, he thought that it was just another thing and he had to pass it whether he liked it or not.
He cleared the exam in the second attempt but for him he felt no joy. He thought that it was his destiny to become one and there was no cause for celebration. His one failure made him feel as if he had lost the war and was just merely winning a lesser battle by clearing it in second attempt.
The question here is “why is the moment bigger than the journey?” why is it that when the person fails at the final hurdle he seems to believe that he has been a loser through the whole journey. It is true that the moments make our life and that is what remains when we look back at our lives in a nutshell. All we remember is what we scored in the exams; whether we won or not and so on. But we don’t remember how much fun it was studying or how we hated to study that subject; how one practiced to win a particular thing – all that remains is result. Then the question is – whether the life that you have had in journey bigger or that moment that changes your life itself more important? It is only those three hours that matter doesn’t it. You write your paper and boom! – you have your result; all the hard work of years is put down in those three hours; three hours to destiny. But are these three hours all that matters?
Not only students but every person fails somewhere; fails at the last step and then there it is – work of years goes down and everyone moves on forgetting you and remembering the successful ones. How can you measure the effort that a runner puts in for four years to get to the Olympics and run that race and eventually it ends in less than ten seconds. Your moment of glory has gone down in less than ten seconds and you don’t even realize it as you came in last. The fair answer is that it is true that moment is bigger than the journey for it all comes down to that moment where you win or lose it all. No one remembers the hard work or pain you put in; all others remember is the result and it is you who has to face the music.
But then all I want to argue is isn’t that journey equally beautiful. All others remember is the result but what would you remember – I remember the long night calls with friends before the board exams, I remember studying subjects all night long which I hadn’t touched round the year to pass my college exams, the tireless practice that we did to play in football matches. What do you remember – do you only remember that you either failed or passed in your exams; whether you were able to get a better result than you mate.
Yes life is made of the moments in which you pass or fail but what life really is, is the journey to make those moments. Fight for the moment but don’t let the moment go by for what you really letting go – is life.
P.S. – to all those who attempt suicide, there is just this one thing, no moment or event is bigger than one’s life. Life is a beautiful journey made of failures; please don’t waste it.

He who thinks, he can be good to all, is the biggest fool.
Not even God was spared of the feeling of hatred. Satan hated God because he did not believe in what God told or made them believe. He fought against him for he believed he was no less than God; he was thrown out of heaven and sent to hell when he failed in the battle against God and that is where he built his own kingdom. The emotion of hatred pre-existed men; it pre-existed life and to be fair it shall be there till the world ends or till there is only vacuum.
Who says that one needs to be loved by all; one can only live by his beliefs and if the man does not then he is nothing but a puppet to the world. What matters is not that people hate you, what matters is what is right. Great men never thought that what they were doing might offend others; they thought of what is right. The path of truth and righteousness is not the easiest to walk on they say and it has never been; when a person does good, does the right thing there would be people who would obstruct; who would create problems because that is what they think is not right in their sense but then what matters is whether your conscious is clear and that what you think will not let you feel guilty later.
Its not that the path of hatred is lonely – no, there also you will find followers who share the same belief but then it never means what you do is right. Satan was sent to hell with four other angels because they did not believe in the supremacy of God but whether what they did was right or wrong would be a matter of debate. But what matters is that the emotion of hate did exist everywhere. Jesus was crucified for some people were not happy with his beliefs and thought that he would take over their reign but that did not make Jesus wrong. We all wish to be as good as we can, we don’t wish that someone would be offended by us but in this whole journey of life, no one really made it without facing this feeling and surely more than a few times would he have faced this feeling.
The first reaction to truth is hatred.
It is not of only religious or mythical people that have been punished and hated for saying the truth. Many scientists like Galileo and other have been punished for they gave theories which were not acceptable to the orthodox but what came of them is history now. They became some of the greatest people because they were not afraid of truth, they were ready to pursue their beliefs and sure they did. It does not matter whether you are hated or not because someone will always be there to hate you be it because you are so good that others like you better or because they envy the greatness of others; there are enough people to hate you for reasons more unbelievable than any.
But why fear being hated. Which person has not been hated – from Jesus to President Bush, from Galileo to the guy next door, but that cannot be a reason not to do the right thing or the thing that you believe is required to do. Hatred develops within a person because he hates something from within himself. Something he thinks should not be done whether right or wrong. Hatred develops because of the hate within. It is only when the thing that affects us do we care to hate; for the thing that we don’t care we have no feelings. It is something which affects us that creates this feeling and all we need to do is feel detached and at least you can be free of this emotion.
“If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us” – Hermann Hesse

It’s a very mean and nasty place… and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain’t about how hard you hit… It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward… how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying: You ain´t what you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain´t you! You´re better than that!”

“There is no greatness where there is not simplicity, goodness, and truth” – Leo Tolstoy
Roger Federer, the greatest tennis player on record today first entered the tennis court as a ball boy in Basel Open (his home court) as a young kid. He had one great desire to win that tournament after becoming a tennis professional. He entered the final twice but did not win it both times. Finally, the third time he reached the finals; he was able to win the tournament and showed high emotions on grabbing the title in front of his family and friends. But the story does not end there. When he came to receive the award, he said that he had been a ball boy here once and to that respect he will treat every boy after the presentation for a pizza and hence asked none to leave after the ceremony.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
These lines by Leonardo Da Vinci is a point of view which most may say is a golden phrase but more than that its a way of living. No one earned anything by saying that he will be great; he sat, thought and worked silently in the night. Its not wrong to have high ambitions, what’s wrong is to do nothing about it then. If one did not think of being great, then he would never become one. When Federer decided to treat the kids it was his humility and simplicity that was portrayed to the millions who watched him. There is nothing great in telling people they are inferior; the greatness lies in letting people know that no matter what I achieve, I will always be that simple man.
Michael Phelps once quoted after winning seven gold medals in Beijing Olympics “I’m the same kind of guy before all this happened.”
Merely by winning anything, you don’t achieve greatness. And even if you may world may not always remember you for the right reason. Greats like Mike Tyson, John McEnroe and many more will always be remembered for their short tempers rather than their so many great achievements. Even the greatest of his time Zidane left his last mark on the football field with violence. But to his credit he was one of the finest guys in the game and will always be remembered for his genuineness. But the point is like Phelps said even after winning so much he still is the same guy. He still has those friends who irrespective of his status go out with him. He has his family to whom he is still their little boy, no matter how much gold medals he wins or how much money he earns.
It is said it is simple to be happy, but difficult to be simple. We all have our own egos to satisfy; yes we may boast about our few achievements but then it should be just to our own happiness. To show superiority over others achieves no greatness. If we let our egos rise to our minds than all one achieved in one’s lifetime does not take long to perish.
Henry David Thoreau once said As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.

“Turning back the pages of my sweet shattered dream, I wonder if she’ll ever do the same; And the thing that I call living is just being satisfied With knowing I’ve got no one left to blame”
Aditya was a shy kid who hardly used to talk to girls and had never thought he would have a girlfriend. Although rich and smart, he never tried to get along with girls but then he always was a decent guy and respected woman. But at the end of his school days, he had a liking for a girl and for the first time, he thought he wanted a girlfriend. He did all he could to be friends with that girl and did all to impress the girl. Pretty soon they were more than just friends and Aditya thought he might have found the one girl he wanted forever. But though they had a strong bond, Aditya never managed to tell that girl how much he loved her and wanted to do so much for her.
One day suddenly, the girl decided never to talk with him and asked him never to call again and although he tried as much to persuade the girl, she never came back. Aditya felt the world around him fall. He never ever got over her. He did try to build a relation with other girls during his college days but he never found the innocence he once felt. He had just lost the one thing he wanted most in the world. And whenever he thought about it, he wished he could do all those things he desired to do once for her. He wished if only he had a second chance would he make up for it, but he always knew that he would never get back to her. And he just wished that maybe he could have just told her what he really thought.
If only. Those must be the two saddest words in the world.
We always wish that we could have let something not happen and always wish if could get another chance, but what use is it?! There have been so many relations where a person has never expressed his love to his loved ones and when they really want to let them know it has been too late. Let alone love relations, how many times have we seen ourselves not able to tell our parents or siblings how much we care. Why cant we understand that if there is a moment in this world its just now; its today! Why should we wait for ‘the right moment’ to express our love? What harm is it if we just say it regularly that I Love You.
Life never gives people many chances; you have to make most of what you got just now. The story of Aditya is the story of so many youth who were never ever able to express their love and when they said the time had gone by. It is one thing, that the person whom you tell I Love You, does not appreciate, but then if you never tell, the regret is far worse. You may never know what the other person feels and you may lose that person for good later. The fear to lose a person, may ultimately lead to losing that person if you never let that person know your feelings.
If there is a moment to live its now; if there is a moment to love its now; if there is a moment to express love its now. Don’t wait for the right moment for there is never a wrong time to do the right thing.
