Facebook 3.0 For iPhone Finally Available

After a couple of weeks of waiting, version 3.0 of the Facebook iPhone app is finally available in the App Store (iTunes link).

If you are still seeing Facebook 2.5 on the App Store via the iPhone (like I was), simply delete Facebook 2.5 from your iPhone and, according to Joe Hewitt, the Facebook iPhone App’s creator:

“…. download it anyway, and you’ll get 3.0. The App Store seems to have some caching issues.”

After briefly using Facebook 3.0, I’ve found the interface much more intuitive and a hell of alot faster. Well worth the wait.

Mini Coupe Concept

I’ve been a big fan of the Mini even before BMW got a hold of it. I’ve only driven two of the BMW generation Mini’s and they are so much fun to drive. Like driving a cemented-to-the-ground go cart, it’s unbelievably solid and well planted. I think the only gripe I had with the Mini was the speedometer location in the center of the dash. Although I assume that would be something an owner would get used to fairly quickly.

The original Mini debuted 50 years ago today so Mini has released images of it’s new Coupe Concept. No word as to if/when this will go into production, but after the newly released Mini Clubman, a svelte, two seat coupe would be an awesome addition to the Mini lineup.

The new chopped top with swept back windshield and wrap around glass truly brings a speedster feel to the Coupe. Although I an sure Mini will add a drop top option soon enough.

The roof line seems to float on top of the tinted, wrap around rear glass which hides the b and c pillars. Kind of reminds me of a kid with his baseball cap turned backwards. Let’s hope that dark rear window tint makes it into the production model.

All and all I really love the concept design. I would love to see a drop top with the windshield chopped just a few more inches to create a true speedster.

Audi’s Updated Corporate Logo

I sure like the look of the updated logo Audi unveiled as part of it’s centennial celebration.

I usually prefer a brush metal effect rather than a bright chrome effect, but the newly chromed interlocking rings with the off center peak I’m really digging. And I agree fully with the author about the old typeface:

“… I am probably one of the lonely souls to say good riddance to the old wordmark, which I have never liked. Neither letter works well with the other and there is no saving grace for that “d” unless someone were to tell me that it stands for a 6 or 9 and either of those numbers represent the number of pistons, or whatever other engine taxonomic detail, that made the first Audi run. But I doubt it.”

I doubt it as well.

Snow Leopard Shipping August 28th 2009

Apple today announced that Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard will go on sale Friday, August 28 at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, and that Apple’s online store is now accepting pre-orders. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange.

For Mac OS X Leopard users, Snow Leopard will be available for only $29. For users of Tiger or earlier versions, Snow Leopard is only available in the $169 Mac Box Set which ALSO includes iLife ‘09 and iWork ‘09. Sold separately, they retail for $79 each.

Not a bad deal considering Windows 7 Ultimate is $320. I’m comparing Windows 7 Ultimate (full, not upgrade) because 1) there are no confusing multiple versions of Mac OS X (only one, “ultimate” version is sold) and 2) for $169 you are getting the full blown Mac OS X Snow Leopard, not an upgrade, and iLife ‘09 and iWork ‘09 to boot!
